Chapter Thirty Seven

Blaine tossed and turned in his bed, his eyelids flickering as he dreamed fitfully. He was sitting silently in a never ending cemetery, the breeze gently caressing his face. Rows and rows of tombstones stood erect out of the ground, peering at him as though accusing him of something that he had forgotten. Looking in front of him he could see which grave he was sitting at. His own. Reaching out, his fingers traced the letters of his name written in large cursive. Everything that Kurt had said was true. He could see it with his very eyes.

"Blaine?" Kurt quietly called out into the silence, his voice sounding shaky and uncertain to Blaine's ears. He whipped his head round to see Kurt standing in front of him looking heartbroken, his ocean coloured eyes shining brightly from unshed tears, his cheeks flushed from the biting breeze in the air. His rich brown hair flew haphazardly in the breeze, slapping his face gently as he stood silent.

"Kurt? Kurt!" He felt his heart rip inside of him as fat tears rolled down his cheeks. Something seemed to possess his body, and it felt almost like an out of body experience for him as he leaped up from his prone position, racing towards Kurt as though his life depended on it. They just couldn't stay apart now they were together. Blaine felt as though this was right, this was how it was meant to be. They belonged together and no amount of memory loss would change that because it was fate. He barreled himself into Kurt's waiting, open arms and felt whole as they slid round him, holding him close and he cried on Kurt's shoulder, grabbing at any part of the beautiful boy that he could, never wanting to let go. If he let go he might lose Kurt forever and at the same time, himself.

"Shh honey. It's going to be ok." Blaine's hold tightened and he looked up into Kurt's eyes, he could feel the connection as they stared deeply into each other and his breath hitched as Kurt started leaning in for the kiss he desired above all else. All Blaine's thoughts and convictions had flown out of his mind as Kurt stood directly in front of him, his mouth getting ever closer. What would it be like to kiss Kurt? He had never truly kissed anyone before. He had been told that it was like fireworks with the right person. Would it feel like that? He felt himself melting as Kurt's lips softly touched his own, his heart hammering inside of him. It was everything that he had ever dreamt it would be and more...

Blaine's eyes snapped open as he heard the shrill ringing of his phone and sat up with a start. Looking over at the clock on his bedside table it stated it was quarter past six. Who the hell would phone him at this hour? A crazy person, that's who. He was by definition a morning person in general, but this early? It was a living nightmare. He reached across and saw Kurt's name flashing on his screen. What could Kurt want? His belly did little flip flops at seeing the boy's name and blushed as he remembered the dream he had just been having about them both. That kiss had been almost otherworldly and Blaine couldn't keep the small smile from creeping over his face. Pressing to take the call, Blaine put phone against his ear.

"Hey." Blaine could hear the echo of Kurt's voice as he whispered down the phone and he knew Kurt must have been in a corridor or something similar. Probably so he wouldn't wake anyone up. Rubbing his eyes to get the sleep out of them, Blaine yawned as he answered the chestnut haired boy.

"Hey. You ok?" He asked. There had to be a reason why Kurt was calling so early and Blaine was incredibly curious as to what it was about.

The pause lasted for what seemed like years before Kurt responded, which worried Blaine more than he was willing to admit. What was it that Kurt felt compelled to phone him about? He was obviously upset . Finally he gave Blaine the reply he had been waiting for, or at least a semblance of one. "Yeah. I miss you..."

Blaine could hear the longing in Kurt's voice. He needed to meet and Blaine was not going to be the one to deny this boy another meeting. Kurt seemed to awaken his protective nature that lurked deep inside of him. He didn't think he was able to deny the boy even if he had wanted to. "Do you want to meet for breakfast?"

"Ooh, can we do the whole breakfast at Tiffany's thing?" Blaine couldn't help but chuckle at the change in Kurt's voice as the excitement seeped into it. He thought it was the cutest thing he had ever heard in his life. No one else would ever have thought of breakfast at Tiffany's. More and more Blaine wished that Kurt could stay by his side forever. But that wasn't an option. Kurt lived in Ohio, he had school there. If they were going to do this it would have to be a long distance relationship and it would be hard, but Blaine was willing to try.

"Sure. I'll pick up the breakfast and meet you there."

"Kay. See you." Shuffling out of bed Blaine began to get ready Now what should he wear? Wanting to look his best for Kurt, Blaine set about riffling through his whole wardrobe for his best outfit.

Rachel watched Kurt as he spoke lowly into his phone. Whoever it was that he was speaking to, the urgency and longing in his voice told her it was someone important, but who she could not tell. Deciding that she needed to find out what was going on Rachel came out from behind the plant she had been hiding behind and walked out to stand beside her close friend. "Who were you talking to?"

She watched Kurt jump at the sound of her voice and whip round frantically, a look of sheer surprise on his face. "No one." Rachel did not believe that for a second and she raised her eyebrow at him, letting Kurt know that he hadn't fooled her at all.

"On the phone? Wherever you're going I'm coming with you." She stood as tall as she could, determination evident in her eyes. She could see Kurt's lips thin in anger but she was not going to back down. Whatever Kurt was up to could well affect their chances at nationals and she wasn't about to let that happen. This was their chance at the title and Rachel wasn't going to let anything stand in the way.

"No you aren't."

"Yes I am." Kurt sighed. it was obvious that the lean boy was trying to think of a way to get rid of her somehow but he wasn't going to be successful. Rachel would make sure of it. No way was he leaving them all again, she would make sure of that.

"Whatever..."Kurt mumbled and started shuffling back to the boys room, trying to look nonchalant. His dark glare told her otherwise.

Much to Kurt's dismay he had not managed to get rid of Rachel. He had thought that if he had gotten changed quickly enough then he would have avoided the annoying girl but it was like she had gotten ready in the speed of light. Why she couldn't just leave him be God only knew, but he could feel the anger rising inside of him the closer to Blaine they got. All he wanted was the chance to talk with Blaine more, was that too much to ask? Clearly it was when it came to Rachel Berry.

"So who are we meeting? Is this the person you went to see yesterday? Why are you being so secretive about this person?" All the inane questions were starting to drive him potty, why couldn't she just have left him be? He didn't want to answer any of them, and since she was going to meet Blaine soon enough Kurt didn't bother wasting his energy.

"Rachel, please can you stop. I feel like my heads about to explode!" Kurt growled lowly, trying his very hardest not to throttle the petite brunette. She was becoming too much to bare. It was only when Kurt saw Blaine leaning against the side of Tiffany's that the anger inside him flew away. Running towards Blaine, Kurt couldn't help but feel his heart leap inside of him just from seeing his face.

"Blaine!" He called out and immediately a smile came over Blaine's handsome features, making Kurt's stomach turn into knots. When Blaine realised that Kurt wasn't alone his face turned to a look of surprise as he looked down at the two packets of food that he had gotten on the way there. "Oh, um... Sorry I only got enough for two..."

"Oh that's ok, I just wanted to meet you. I'm Rachel Berry, it's good to meet you." Sticking out her hand for Blaine to shake, Kurt rolled his eyes as she giggled and flicked her hair back in a flirtatious manner. Turning to Kurt, Rachel murmured so only he would hear. "Wow, he's cute. You didn't say he was cute!"Oh dear Lord, someone shoot me now.

"Hi Blaine. I'm sorry, Rachel kinda decided to tag along last minute." He gave an apologetic look to the older boy, who thankfully only smiled back, his eyes solely on Kurt.

"I see. Well, here, have my pastry." Blaine kindly held out his breakfast to Rachel and Kurt couldn't help but feel so intensely proud of Blaine. He really was the most amazing person in the world and he was Kurt's. Well, he hoped he still was anyhow. "So you go to school with Kurt?"

"Oh yes. I used to date his brother, Finn. I'd still be dating him now if Finn had any sense at all."

Blaine gave Kurt a confused stare, Rachel did take some getting used to and Blaine had no idea what she was like yet. All he could do was give Blaine a conciliatory pat on his arm and a quick roll of his eyes. "Um, I'm sorry?" Was all Blaine could say before he had to bite his lip to stop from laughing out loud. But then this did all seem quite ridiculous now that Kurt thought about it.

"Oh that's ok... You know, you're cute. Are you single?"Rachel asked Blaine whose eyebrows shot up and he gave Kurt a pointed look as if to say 'what is with this girl? '

"Rachel, give it a rest..." Sighing, Kurt closed his eyes, rubbing his temple's to stop the impending headache that he could feel coming. "I'm so sorry."

Rachel completely ignoring him, continuing to flirt with Blaine. Kurt could feel the irritation seeping out of him. "Let's walk down Broadway and you can tell me all about yourself Blaine."

"O-ok." She linked her arm through both boys, leading them down towards Broadway. They stopped when they finally reached the Gerswin theatre, Blaine looking tired of Rachel's constant yammering. Kurt, sullen at Rachel's mere presence scowled silently as she chatted away flirting as though her life depended on it.

"I'm going to be on Broadway one day you know Blaine." Blaine raised his brow yet again at Kurt whilst politely smiling at the girl who was completely oblivious to their own silent exchange. He simply nodded, letting Blaine know that Rachel's dream was in the realms of possibilities. His own dreams of being on stage were not quite so realistic. It didn't stop him from dreaming though.

"I want to be on Broadway..."Kurt mumbled with a loud sigh and when a hand gently fell on his arm, giving him a start, he looked up into the gorgeous eyes of Blaine giving him a hope that he felt he had begun to lose. How Blaine's eyes managed to do that to him he didn't know but he loved it nonetheless. Breathing in Kurt felt more confident about himself then he had in a long time.

"Well, why don't you see what it's like?"

Kurt's eyes grew huge as he thought of what the man that he loved had suggested. Were they really going to sneak in to the Gerswin theatre? "We can't go in Blaine!"

"Why not? Come on!" Giggling at what was happening, Kurt let Blaine take his hand firmly as he led the three of them inside, his heart pounding in his chest at the excitement of both Blaine beside him and going into such a famous place. Looking across Kurt saw Rachel giving him a very knowing look. But he just didn't care . He was here, with the love of his life and nothing else mattered. Dragging Kurt up onto the stage, Blaine started singing, a huge grin on his face and Kurt couldn't help but smile back.

Blaine started singing one of his all time favourite duets, all the while lost in Kurt's wondrous gaze. When Kurt joined in it was as though the world transformed in front of his very eyes and he was back in Dalton Academy once more. All he saw was Kurt, and in those few seconds he saw him with perfect clarity. This was the boy he loved. Tripping over the words, Blaine slumped down on the stage as the revelation hit him like a ton of bricks. Kurt rushed over to his side, deep concern etched on his features.

"You ok Blaine?"

"Yeah, yeah, I... I'm fine. I um, I have to go, I'll see you later. I have a gig on tonight, will you come? I'll text you the address." Blaine tripped over himself as he got up, not able to look Kurt in the face. He was freaking out, all the sudden feelings coming back to him were too much to bare. He wasn't sure what to do but one thing was certain, he needed some time to think.

"Sure, see you this evening." Kurt called out to him, looking confused and upset. Blaine felt a tug of guilt but he was so confused right now that he couldn't stop his legs from taking him away. The last thing he heard as he swung the door open was Rachel Berry.

"So can I sing now?"

Blaine didn't know whether Kurt would come to his gig or not after what had happened earlier, but he sat backstage hoping he would. Kurt had been all he could think about all day. He loved him, his ocean eyes and his little smile. He loved his kindhearted nature and his inner strength. He seemed to know this boy inside out despite only having met him the day before. Blaine just couldn't explain it, but the thing of it was, he didn't care. As he made his way onto the stage, he craned his neck to try and catch a glimpse of Kurt. What he wasn't expecting was that all of his school friends seemed to be there too along with there teacher. Shocked but trying not to show it, Blaine sat down with a flourish. Not sure why, he started playing a song that was not in his repertoire, but he carried on regardless.

Living alone I think of all the friends I've known,

But when I dial the telephone, nobody's home.

Blaine could practically feel Kurt sitting beside him, listening to him with a rapture few showed and he knew without a doubt that this was a memory. He had sung this to Kurt once upon a time. Tears rolled down his face in torrents and it was all he could do to finish the song without running away from it all. As the song finished he had to take a deep breath, before he peaked at Kurt in the audience. His gorgeous boy was sitting tearful himself and Blaine's heart thudded rapidly in his chest. He was definitely in love.

Sitting back in the dressing room, Blaine turned when he heard the familiar melodic voice that always made his knees turn to jelly. "Blaine?"

"Hey."Kurt raced into the room, flinging himself into Blaine's arms, causing Blaine's heartbeat to quicken at an alarming rate.

"You were amazing."

"Thank you." Feeling shy all of a sudden, Blaine flushed and looked away as Kurt sat in his lap, his arms snaking around the younger boys waist. Looking into those ocean's left him feeling mesmerized and he couldn't take that right now.

"What was going on up there?"Kurt asked, looking curious to say the least. His hand unconsciously went to Blaine's arm and Blaine felt the warmth and comfort that he hadn't known he needed until now.

"I.. I keep having these visions of us. Kurt, I want to remember so badly. I feel so many emotions right now and I don't know what to do with them."

"I love you. Always remember that." Kurt caressed his cheek before leaning over to softly place his lips upon Blaine's own. The insides of Blaine's stomach fluttered as he felt Kurt's lips move against his slowly and sensuously, his tongue flicking Blaine's lower lip, causing him to part and deepen the kiss. His heart was beating wildly as he clung to Kurt's waist as though his life depended on it. His hand slowly wandered up to Kurt's neck and stopped short when it hit something cool and round. Parting from Kurt's lip, breathing heavily, Blaine glanced down to see a pendant and picked it up to take a closer look.

"You always wear this? What's inside?" He inquired curiously.

"Do you want to see?" Blaine nodded, watching avidly as Kurt opened the locket. Inside were dried petals of some sort. Reaching out, his fingertips brushed against them...
