Chapter 35
I woke up to the sound of chirping birds and dim sunlight. Groaning, I rolled onto my side and pulled one of the pillows over my head. Then I remembered last night. Jack had crept in through the window and the midnight flight we took together. It was all so magical, it had felt like a dream. I felt the bed creak and I opened my eyes drowsily. Sitting on the edge of the bed was the familiar silhouette—young, hooded sweatshirt, and white hair. He was smiling down at me. Jack reached out and brushed aside some of my bedhead hair. I let the pillow flop to the side and eased into his caress with a gentle sigh.
"Good morning, Your Majesty," he said with a grin.
Taking his hand, I pulled it away from my cheek and brought it down to my lips. I kissed his palm tenderly.
"Good morning." I interlaced my fingers with his. "I could have sworn last night was just a dream. But I'm glad it wasn't." I gave his hand a gentle squeeze. "I missed you."
"Time felt longer than usual," he said.
I nodded slowly. "But you're all mine now. And I don't plan on letting you go for anything."
"You've been sleeping a while. I still haven't met the newlyweds yet." Jack stood and stretched his arms over his head. "They should be up by now, right?"
I slipped out of bed and wrapped my arms around him. I buried my face in his back, inhaling to cool, crisp scent of his blue hoodie. Slowly I ran my hands along hi chest. I felt him stiffen slightly.
"They can wait," I whispered. "I haven't seen you in almost six months. I was hoping for something a bit…more for our reunion this winter."
"Elsa…."
Embarrassed about how forward I was being, I released him and stepped away from the bed.
"I'm sorry, forget what I just said." I reached for the slip that hung next to the changing screen. "I'll go see if Anna and Kristoff are awake—"
A pair of firm arms stopped me in my tracks. Jack's arms were wrapped tightly around me, one around my waist and the other around my shoulders. He nuzzled the soft spot on my neck. I tried to move, but he held me fast.
"After that kind of invitation, don't just think you can get away so easily," he whispered.
"I was just…."
He planted a wet kiss on my neck. The feeling of his cold tongue running across my skin sent shivers coursing through my body. I arched my back, trying to squirm away from his grasp, but he held me fast. One of his hands slipped down the front of my nightgown. His cold touch made me gasp as he cupped my breast in his hand. He nipped at my ear, sucking on it until I couldn't keep my voice in any longer.
"J-Jack…wait, Jack."
He pulled me down onto the bed, rolling over so that I lay beneath him. Jack ran his fingers through my hair before leaning down and kissing me passionately. His tongue darted in and out quickly, coaxing me to deepen it. I wrapped my arms around his neck, snaking one hand up to play with his frosty white hair. I pressed his head closer. His insistence intensified as he kissed me. His other hand ghosted up my side, sending shivers coursing through me. A soft moan escaped my lips and he pulled away. Grabbing his sweatshirt by the collar, he pulled it over his head and threw it on the floor.
"I hope you're ready for a homecoming like no other," he whispered darkly.
The room suddenly felt colder than I remembered. As he leaned in to kiss me again, it felt as if winter itself had settled itself in my bedroom. But soon it didn't even matter. All that mattered was Jack and his presence—the way we fit together, the warmth of our bodies. What started as a sweet homecoming turned into a passionate reunion, one I would not soon forget.

Hand in hand, fingers intertwined, I walked down the hallway with Jack. Anna wasn't much of a morning person so she was most likely still in bed. The palace was quiet but the din of the village awaking filled the air outside. I led Jack down the vast hallway of doors to Anna and Kristoff's room. She had moved out of her old childhood bedroom to one of the larger rooms. After all, now there were two of them for one room. I stopped in front of a pair of double doors and knocked.
There was a shuffling sound inside followed by a click. Kristoff opened the door, blond hair a mess and just a pair of pants on. He yawned, scratching his head.
"Yeah?" When he finally looked up to see who it was, his eyes widened. He quickly his body behind the door. "Elsa! Wh-what are you doing here so early? I mean, you don't need a reason but we…I mean you…" he said, clearly flustered.
I giggled. "Take it easy, Kristoff." I leaned to the side, trying to see around him. "Is Anna awake?"
"Uh, she's still sleeping."
"Not for long!" I grinned. It was the perfect opportunity to surprise her.
"But—"
I pushed the door open and crept into the room. Jack entered behind me and shook hands briefly with Kristoff. The room was still dim and the bedsheets crumpled in heaps on the bed. I tiptoed across the floor. I could see a lump in the bed and a mane of messy red hair. I leaned over the bed and peered down at my little sister.
"Anna," I said in a sing-song voice.
I shook her shoulder gently. She groaned and rolled onto her back.
"Who is it?" she mumbled.
The sheets fell loosely around her, and for the first time I realized that she was completely naked. I felt my face heat up in embarrassment. I averted my eyes.
"Anna, it's me."
"Elsa?" Anna yawned and sat up slowly, the covers falling down.
I quickly pulled them back up and held them above her chest. Suddenly it seemed to dawn on her who it was that had come to wake her. Her face flushed a deep shade of red. She clutched the bedsheets close to her chest.
"Elsa?!"
"Sorry, I wanted to surprise you."
"Surprise me? With what?"
I glanced nervously at the window. "It's snowing."
Anna fell silent. "Is Jack back?" she whispered.
I glanced up and heaved a sigh of relief. Jack had excused himself from the bedroom when he realized Anna was indecent. Smiling, I looked back at my little sister and nodded. Dragging the sheets off the bed with her, Anna hobbled toward the changing screen.
"Let me get dressed!" she cried, excitement overflowing in her voice. "I can't wait to see him!"
Kristoff glanced up at me shyly. "Sorry."
I shook my head. "Don't be! I'll just wait outside."
Hurrying to the door, I slipped out into the hallway. Jack was leaning against the wall, staff in hand. He glanced up when I emerged from the bedroom. His cheeks were still slightly flushed from embarrassment.
"Hey."
"Maybe we should have waited until later," he mumbled.
I laughed. "Well, she's excited to see you anyway."
He grinned. "It's been a while."
Nodding, I took his hand and placed a small kiss on his cheek. "It's been a while for both of us."
The doors opened and Anna came flying out of the bedroom. She threw her arms around Jack's neck and hugged him. He stumbled beneath her, caught off guard.
"Jack!"
He hugged her back. "Hey, Anna. How've you been?"
She blushed. "Absolutely wonderful!"
"And the married life?"
"It's been fantastic, but I'm still getting used to it." Kristoff emerged behind her, fully dressed this time. "Let's go have breakfast! I've got a lot to tell you."
