Too many things unsaid

Chapter 37 – babies, babies and babies

The doctor took Penelope and Derek down to the room where she was going to deliver the babies. Penelope was starting to feel really nervous as she got put in a wheelchair; she held on to Derek's hand tightly and closed her eyes as she took a deep breath to try to calm her nerves.

The doctor explained to her what was going to happen whilst on the way. When they got to the room she laid on the bed, feeling nervous and a bit afraid, never having gone through the process before.

Derek was listening very carefully to what the doctors were saying as he was interested to know what was going to happen and how they were going to do everything. Even though he was nervous, he was excited, he couldn't wait to see Penelope feed their children for the first time and he was excited to change his baby daughters diaper for the first time.

Hotch got everyone in to the bullpen. As everyone took their seats he stood up. Emily looked at Hotch and knew something was up. 'What's going on?'

Hotch flashed one of his rare smiles. 'There are a few things that we need to do today, like now. We are going to leave work and do shopping. Penelope is in labor…' Hotch smiled again when he heard everyone's gasps and saw everyone smiling in excitement 'but Derek called me and told me that Penelope is having a C-section. Derek told me that the doctor checked the babies' heartbeat…' Hotch stopped to take a deep breath and said 'they are having triplets'.

Hotch looked at his team and saw each of their expressions, no one tried to hide their shock, then there was nervousness, excitement and happiness. JJ was the first to respond saying 'wow… ok what do they need us to do?'

'We need to get more supplies. JJ, you need to get more diapers things like that and a bouncer, Reid you can get bottles, pacifiers, baby carrier, Rossi could you get a stroller, baby blanket, baby clothes, get a few teddies and toys and car seat and Emily you come with me we need to get the changing table and the crib and baby bath, everyone can get started and once you have done that, contact me and I will tell you what you can do next.' Hotch finished and everyone got out of their seats and out of the room.

Reid and JJ rushed to their car and went to get started on their shopping, whilst Rossi got into his car and got away from the BAU.

Emily and Hotch had a conversation whilst getting in the car. 'Wow triplets, I can't believe that, and the other week we were there painting with them. That's crazy but adorable, now just another little one to love and add to our family'. Emily said smiling.

Aaron looked at her and smiled, driving out of the parking space and replying 'yea that is true. Penelope and Derek will be great parents and the kids will be great too, I wonder if they are going to have a boy or a girl? We know they are having two girls; it would be nice for them to have a little boy too. We have a nice family and it's just gotten a lot bigger'.

The doctors gave Penelope an epidural and put numbing cream on her tummy. Derek watched on in amazement and held Penelope's hand. He stroked her head to try to calm her down when he saw her eyes widen.

5 minutes later!

Derek stood there his heart beating rapidly in his chest. His hand was shaking and he had tears in his eyes.

Penelope's heart was also beating very fast in her chest and felt a little weird, she was thankful she couldn't see what the doctors were doing.

Both Derek and Penelope could have gone to heaven when they heard one of the babies cry. The doctor wiped the baby off and gave it to another doctor who weighed the baby and wrote it down. The doctor put the baby in a blanket and gave the baby to Derek.

Derek let go of Penelope's hand and welcomed the baby into his loving, peaceful and waiting arms. Derek stared down at his beautiful baby daughter and a tear slipped from his eye. He smiled and stroked her cheek. He kissed her head and stroked her hair. Just as he was about to say something to the beautiful baby girl he heard another cry, his heart tightened in his chest as he saw the doctor give the crying baby away.

A few seconds later Derek got handed his other baby girl. He handed his other little one to Penelope and she cried tears of joy; more than happy to see her daughter she kissed her head and the baby moved a little.

Derek held his other baby girl in his arms and stroked her cheek and kissed her head. 'Hey baby, this is your daddy, I'm so happy to finally meet you. I love you so much already princess' Derek whispered to her.

She let out a contented sigh and opened her big, beautiful, brown eyes to look at her dad. More tears came out of Derek's eyes as he saw her daughter look at him for the first time. He smiled at her and said 'you have beautiful eyes just like your mummy' he kissed her head and handed her over to Penelope who still had her other girl in her arm. She held both babies in her arm, looked at them and smiled. Derek took a picture of the beautiful moment and smiled.

Derek and Penelope looked at each other when they heard a third cry. A few seconds later the doctor came back with the baby and placed the baby in his arms.
