Inside a shopping centre within Station Square, business was done, money was spent and happiness was shared. The group had split up: Ella took charge of Cream, Cheese and Amy while Chris was in the care of Tails and Luster. Whilst the ladies were trying on different clothes of varying sizes and colours in the clothes shop, people kept staring at the Mobians. A look of confusion as well as interest were planted on all of their faces.
On the flip side, the boys ventured over to the game shop by the request of Chris. He started browsing at the wide variety of games available on each of the major consoles - all of which he owned. A particular game box caught his attention. It had an image of a sizely, short man that had a red cap and a mushroom was in his hand.
"Oh yeah! I need to get a new copy of this. The one I've got right now has a creased box and I wanna make my collection look good, so I think I'll get this one right here," Chris reminded himself of his video game woes.
"Hey, Chris," Luster called over. He and Tails were standing just beside the boy. "There's so many cool looking games here!"
"Yeah!" Chris nodded. He noticed Tails was looking the other way, so he found this to be a great opportunity to do something he wanted to keep private. The boy handed the young Mobian a handful of cash. "Here, take it. It's a little thanks for playing that game with me before we got here."
"This is money, right?" Luster asked, happily accepting the funds.
"Yeah. One-thousand pounds. I recommend you save it; keep it somewhere safe. You'll never know when you may need it," Chris advised the cat.
Although Tails had been right next to the pair, they were whispering, so it was difficult for him to discern precisely what was going on. Nonetheless, he managed to figure it out. Tails turned to the twelve year old human with a curious look.
"Uh, is that okay with you, Tails?" Chris wondered.
"It's fine," the fox replied. "I'm just glad you didn't give him anything weird." He seemed scared to Chris; he couldn't tell why.
"What's wrong? Do you not like video games or something?" was what Chris asked in concern.
Tails paused, as if to internally shudder or hesitate. "No, it's just that...people have been staring at us the entire time. Like we're some sort of alien race bent on controlling the galaxy."
His fears peaked when a boy grabbed his namesakes.
"I want this toy! Can we buy it, mother?" the child asked his parent.
The mother retracted her son, realising that Tails wasn't actually a toy. Both humans retreated from the scene. While the child was upset to not be in possession of the Mobian, the mother was deathly afraid. She was just as terrified of Tails as he was terrified of the looks he'd been receiving for their entire day out then-far.
"Are you okay?" Luster wondered, in total concern for his guardian.
"Yeah, I'm alright," Tails nodded. He calmed down a little. "Let's just meet up with the others and probably go home. I don't wanna be hassled like this. And I'm pretty sure Amy and Cream don't want to hang around for much longer."
"Maybe it's a good thing that Sonic didn't come after all," Chris remarked. Then he remembered something - something which happened earlier that day. "Sonic...you really should've taken that phone when I offered it to you. It'd help you so much...but you didn't listen…"
Chris led the charge to the counter, where he promptly paid for his game. The three of them soon departed from the shop and met up with their friends, as suggested. But even together, in a restaurant, the assaults never stopped. They kept coming.
Despite all that, their day was only going to get worse.

S-O-N-I-C, GO!
S-O-N-I-C, GO!
Go, go, go, go, LET'S GO!
Oh!
Woooooow!
I've been breaking the rules 'till yesterday
Now I just wanna break loose today
That's how I'll be!
Always running free!
With this punk philosophy,
That says to always dash away
Go towards the goal!
There's nothing better!
If my rhythm's, been disrupted
The scenery is, just a bunch of lines
So I'll ignore it
And break the world's confines!
Inside, outside, here we go
Attack, attack, everywhere
Break everything, but not a friend
Just make the battle end!
Inside, outside, go Sonic!
Attack, attack, yes Sonic!
Look out there buddy, have a nice fight
Our difference is paper thin and yet I will spin
Through the boredom of today
Start running, find your own way!
S-O-N-I-C, GO!
S-O-N-I-C, GO!
Go, go, go, go, LET'S GO!
While the Mobians were busy getting harassed by the British public, construction workers were salvaging the remains of Eggman's old fortress to see if any of it could be used for the government's own purposes. Quite a large number of them were concentrated around that one place. It was as if a swarm of people appeared out from nowhere.
"You, go take care of the power station's remains," the leader of the workers ordered one of his employees. The man noticed something odd on the ground, something new. "A door..."
The construction leader walked over to it and proceeded to clear some of the rubble away, revealing an opening. Out of seemingly nowhere, the ground started to shake, scaring the workers into stepping back, as the entire remains of the fortress collapsed under a large opening that the miniature earthquake soon formed.
What came out absolutely shocked everyone in the area. A colossal, front-pointed flying machine that was equipped with several jet engines and the Eggman Empire insignia ascended slowly from the large opening. It was primarily purple, but its pointed front end was a dirty yellow/gold. The machine only meant one thing.
"You hapless gits! Don't think that you've crushed my resolve because of your measly attack," Eggman declared. The doctor was finally back after a month's long absence. "Tremble before the might of the Egg Fort, the greatest airborne fortress I secretly prepared in case this happened!"
"Why did he use the drill to break down that door?" Bocoe commented, also having survived.
"Such a waste!" Decoe remarked, another robotic survivor.
"Just what are you talking about? Since I attached a drill, it would be a waste not to use it!" Eggman refuted. He was very glad to finally be back in action.
"Oh!" Decoe exclaimed in realisation.
"It's really just a lot of trouble..." Bocoe mechanically sighed.
"Never mind that and go! Our destination is Station Square!" Eggman demanded.
The twin rockets at the back of the massive flying fortress started up. It all boosted into the distance, aiming for Station Square, as per the orders of the evil scientist who schemed to take over the world.

Station Square
Back with the humans and Mobians, each of them had proceeded to a quiet, secure and secluded room. Nobody else was in there beside them. It was a private relaxing room owned by the Thorndyke family and protected by Nelson's technology company, Rimlight Corporation. Since Chris was a part of the group, they were all allowed free access to the secret area. Once inside, the Mobians lamented their social troubles.
"I've had enough..." Amy organically sighed.
"I feel like everybody will calm down about you guys if we give them a little more time," Chris reassured them all, his game in its bag.
Luster, being bored, noticed something strange outside. "What's that?"
People were forming a massive crowd on the street for the sole purpose of seeing the large flying fortress that was quickly approaching the city. Most of them ran away once they realised what was likely going to follow.
"It's gotta be Eggman's doing," Chris guessed. "And what kind of threatening colour is purple?"
"Eggman's never been great with style…" Tails sighed.
As the doctor's ship began to cast a vast shadow over a part of the city, even more people fled the scene. On the bridge, the doctor himself was cackling over the fact that his mere presence was frightening to the public.
"Foolish humans! How dare you destroy my fortress! It took me over a month to sort all this out! But now it's payback time. I will decimate Station Square and build Eggmanland in its place! It will be a giant fortress for the Eggman Empire!" Eggman threatened, releasing a number of small wrecking ball robots to do his dirty work.
The E-42 Toroles (as Eggman called them) immediately started their mission of demolishing the surrounding buildings. With their signature wrecking balls, doing so was an easy task. Cars, lamp posts, trees and more were demolished amongst their path of destruction.
"If only Sonic kept that phone..." Chris mentioned as he and his friends all rushed out of the building.
They all approached the gold limousine they had used to get to the city in the first place. Unfortunately, the car was destroyed by a Torole. It all appeared to be over when three E-42s surrounded them, but when a blue blur shot straight through them, everyone was free and reinvigorated.
"Now's our chance to escape!" Tails ushered everybody away.
Sonic appeared. He quickly got to eliminating all the other Toroles with ease. The hedgehog sped up a particularly tall building, revealing himself to the people of Station Square. Anyone that had been watching cheered for his presence.
"You've arrived, Sonic," Eggman 'greeted' his nemesis. Somehow, his voice reached the hedgehog, despite the scientist still being within the bridge.
"You mess around way too much, Eggman," Sonic answered, ready to trash whatever else his enemy had in store for him this time. "Let's see what you've got."
"Sonic...take this!"
Six lock-on missiles were fired at the hedgehog. Sonic evaded every single one of them, forcing the rest of them to explode by simply speeding past them. Brushes of wind that were created by his small speed-ups collided with the missiles - thus forcing them to explode.
"It always turns out like this..." Decoe was just as frustrated as his master was.
Sonic attempted to reach the Egg Fort by jumping off the same tall building, but the ship was just too high for him. Even when he tried leaping at the end of a speedy dash along the side of the building, all he could get to was the side of the fortress. Since it was rounded, he kept slipping off the side. Sonic was stumped.
"We need the X-Tornado. I'd say to go home and get it, but how're we gonna get it back here before Eggman destroys the city? I haven't memorised the layout of this city yet..." Tails wondered aloud.
"Neither have I," Amy added. "What are we gonna do?"
Just then, a car appeared on the road in front of the group. The door to its front seat opened, revealing exactly the person they needed to see. Chris smiled.
"Uncle!" Everyone was surprised at the speed freak's sudden arrival.
With the limited amount of space in the car, everyone was forced to move up against one another. It wasn't very comfortable for anyone.
"I'll take you all home at max speed. Hang on tight!" Sam Speed reassured his friends.
The car zoomed down the street, going as fast as it could, disregarding the law. Since Sam had a special position in the government, he could get away with speeding. And after all, it was for a very special and particularly important purpose: saving the city.
"Uncle, you're driving too fast," Chris stated, completely forgetting who he was talking to.
"I'm not driving fast enough," Sam grinned, slamming his foot down on the pedal even harder.
However, the sudden interference of several small, green and spherical robots caused the car to swerve. A greater contingent of these E-33 Buballs appeared. They all surrounded the car, preventing it from moving forth.
Luckily, a timely rescue from Mr. Stewart saved their days. He reflected the lasers that the Buballs shot with a simple mirror. The E-33s weren't very durable since just one laser was enough to destroy them. Mr. Stewart's reflected laser was even enough to pierce through the robots, so he could get rid of many of them at once.
"Thank you very much, Mr. Stewart!" Chris thanked his teacher.
"No problem, Chris. Are you and your friends alright?" the undercover teacher smiled. It felt good to be appreciated, especially by one of his beloved students.
Sam left the car in order to get a better and clearer conversation with the teacher. "Stewart? Do I know you from somewhere?"
"I'm Chris' tutorial time teacher," Mr. Stewart answered. "We've met once before during Mrs. Thorndyke's party."
"Oh, right! I forget things quickly, but I also remember things quickly!" Sam Speed quickly remembered.
"And you're Chris' uncle. Your name is..."
"Call me the wild express of love!"
"Hey!" Amy alerted the two men to the situation. "This isn't the time for over the top introductions! We need to get back to the mansion as soon as possible!"
"Oh yeah. Stop dawdling, Stewart, and get in," Sam rushed, pushing the undercover teacher into the already tight backseat area.
As they all sped along the highway, more Buballs zoned in, ready to fire. All was lost. They were dead - it was too crowded for Mr. Stewart to reach his mirror. Nobody else could do anything about them.
Except for their new saviour. A large blue and yellow van appeared, smashing into the Buballs and eradicating them almost upon contact. The driver of the van was Mr. Tanaka, who had been left at the mansion for safety reasons.
"Mr. Tanaka! But where did you get that vehicle from?" Tails asked, having never seen such a thing anywhere around the house or its garage.
"Master Chuck had a modified van ready for a situation such as this. He asked me to keep it a surprise," Mr. Tanaka explained. He opened the door to the back of the van and motioned to it. Tails looked inside.
"The X-Tornado!" the fox was overjoyed to see his and Chuck's machine fitting snugly inside the modified van of absolute amazement and wonder.
And so, Tails and Chris entered the plane and quickly took off to go combat the growing menace of Dr. Eggman while the rest of the group returned to the mansion.

Sonic, on the other hand, was trying to shake some Buballs off his tail while eliminating some orange bird mechs (known as the E-43 Falcon by Eggman) when the X-Tornado flew right by the Egg Fort.
"Alright, Tails!" he noticed the plane immediately, using a Homing Attack chain on some Falcons to get on top of his friends' creation.
Tails directed the X-Tornado so it was above the Egg Fort. Eggman ordered his ship's side turrets to shoot at his nimble opposers but each shot missed and ended up hitting the surrounding buildings.
"If we fight here, the city's gonna get hurt," Chris realised.
"Sonic, we've gotta lead Eggman towards the ocean. Can you do something about that?" Tails accepted while avoiding more bullets from the Egg Fort.
"Heh, leave it to me!" Sonic reassured them. "Get me in front of Egghead's ship, I got somethin' in mind for him."
Tails did just that, avoiding all explosions along the way. Sonic then taunted his enemy by displaying his own backside and smacking it using his hand. He also had a pointed tongue as well as a cheeky smile. Eggman was quickly infuriated at this sight. Eventually, he turned the Egg Fort around and began following the X-Tornado towards the large body of water.
The X-Tornado was free to evade each and every shot or missile that the Egg Fort fired their way - without having to worry about the environment. But when it came time to fire a huge laser weapon known as the Blaster Cannon...
"Prepare to fire!" Eggman demanded.
Tails and the others were not expecting this. Without much time to react, the large yellow beam hit them dead-on. But they survived. The X-Tornado wasn't in a bad shape...for the most part. Something had gone wrong.
"The energy circuit's been hit!" the fox noticed. "The power's not gonna last! We can only fly at full speed for a few minutes now!"
Chris and Tails soon began fearing for all their lives, while Sonic was mildly concerned about that possibility. As Eggman, Decoe and Bocoe prepared another Blaster Cannon shot, Sonic came up with an idea.
"So the X-Tornado can only fly at full speed for a few minutes?" the hedgehog asked his best friend.
"I guess so," Tails commented, desperately trying to conserve the plane's power. Luckily, Eggman wasn't firing any extra projectiles for whatever reason, so conserving energy was actually quite easy.
"Okay, with all the speed you've got, fly straight for the bridge," Sonic insisted. "We've gotta take this chance."
On the Egg Fort's bridge, while Decoe and Bocoe were readying the Blaster Cannon, something important came up on the grey robot's personal screen.
"It's the X-Tornado!" Bocoe informed his creator.
"What are they planning?" Eggman patiently waited.
He had no idea what the hedgehog was up to. Plus, the Blaster Cannon was still charging - there wasn't anything that could be done about that. Therefore, he didn't care about the hedgehog for now.
But he did start caring when two Power Rings were launched at both Sonic's hands (despite Tails' cries that they starting to run out of them). He used the power of both at the same time and blasting straight through the Egg Fort's bridge as well as the Blaster Cannon.
"We lost control of the aircraft!" Decoe exclaimed.
"It's over!" Bocoe also exclaimed.
Eggman wasn't happy. He was enraged to the highest degree.
"I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!" he shouted, being caught in the ensuing explosion.
Everyone stared out into the rather gigantic splash the crashing of the Egg Fort made. Although they celebrated their victory, somehow, they knew this would not be the end of Eggman's flying fortress. They were bound to come across it again.
