The next month went by slower than the previous. I continued to work at the firm even though Gevanni was getting more information from following him. But Mikami was opening up more and more to me, which is really good I suppose. But in the middle of a day at work, Near had the audacity to call me.
"Eva? Is that you? I've been so worried! How are you?" I asked, "The SPK and I are meeting Light on the 28th of January at one o'clock." said Near. "In three days? You should've told me! Am I invited?" I asked excitedly. "I just had the times confirmed with Light and the Task Force. You are to come as a member of the SPK," said Near. "I am honored! I gotta go I'll call you back tonight to discuss details," I said excitedly before hanging up.
I was relieved, this was going to finally end.
"Who was that?" asked Mikami. "My sister! She's getting married in three days! I am so excited for her," I lied, but it was the only thing I could think of with how I was talking on the phone. "So are you going to be leaving now?" he asked. "No, not today, I'll be gone at the end of tomorrow though," I said, telling the truth.
For once.
"Well, good luck to your sister and her fiancee," said Mikami, sounding disappointed, as if he wanted me gone sooner. Freaking hater.
I continued my day and when I went back, I saw Mello and Matt planning something.
"What are you doing?" I asked, seeing a smoke bomb, bullets and guns, "Planning a kidnapping," said Matt. I gawked, "Aw what? I thought that wasn't our business anymore," I groaned. "You're not involved, since you've buddied up with Near." said Mello.
I rolled my eyes. "Really? You're mad because I can get along with Near? Seriously?" I said pinching my temples. "Near won. He's going to catch Kira. Nothing I can do about it now, except for help him," he said.
Apocalyptic moment.
Looked at his face to see if it was some sick joke, but it wasn't. "You're giving in and helping Near?" I asked, completely shocked. He nodded. "Who are you kidnapping?" I asked. "Kiyomi Takada," said Mello. "Cool. Shoot her in the face for me," I said.
If Mello was going to help Near, I'll support him. That's my job. "After this job I promise we'll be out of Japan, well not you Layne, you're gonna watch Kira's downfall and tell me all about it at Wammy's House." said Mello confidently. More confident than I had seen him in a very long time.
I really hope he's okay. But this is a start. I want him and Near to actually be in the same room together with out him putting a gun to anyone's head.
