Chapter 37
"Are you sure?" Edward asked Alice as they drove down the road. Most of the businesses were closed but there were a few people out on the streets. He wanted to wait for Bella at the warehouse not out in the woods.
"If we don't do something," Alice calmly said. "Bella will be lost to you. This is your only chance to make sure nothing gets in your way." She closed her eyes and tried to focus. Jasper was playing with her blind spots and it made it hard for her to concentrate.
"She'll bet there," Edward stated looking at his phone. He put it away as he looked out the window. They had a ways to drive but it didn't matter. If she turned on them, Bella would be trapped forever with that mongrel. He couldn't allow that to happen.
The owner of the diner was more than happy to section off an area for Tank and his friends. He even promised to have at least three waitresses at their beckon call. As soon as they entered the diner, they were immediately led to the back. Embry made a point to seat next to Evie and block Jerry. Instead he blocked Paul from sitting next to Evie. Lucky for him Evie was smiling and laughing and there was no way Paul was going to ruin the day for her. Instead he punched Embry in the arm while Leah smacked him on the back of the head.
It didn't take long for Evie and the guys to fall back into their usual antics. They quickly ordered food and played caught up. They explained some of the finer points to all their rules for Leah and Embry to understand. Paul, Jacob and Bella knew most of the rules and tried to give their own point of view to help explain it to Leah and Embry.
Rex and Enzo flirted with the waitress. Beth rolled her eyes at first but then took pity on Enzo and started to give him some pickup lines. Rex was upset when the waitress flirted back with Enzo. He claimed to have more game than Enzo who was only newly single.
Evie noticed and at first thought Beth was upset but soon realized Enzo and Beth were truly over and were just friends. It was a bit sad to see her two friends go from completely into each other to just friends in a matter of months. She winked at Paul when he smiled at her. She knew that would never happen with them. She felt absolutely lucky to have Paul by her side.
They each told a few stories of their earlier adventures. The sleepovers they had and their traditional morning surfs. Leah laughed her butt off when they told the story of riding wave runners to Catalina Island. The look on Embry's face as he realized Evie actually instigated the challenge made everyone laugh. Evie shrugged and laughed with everyone else as she leaned her head on Embry's shoulder.
Toby began to tell the story of how Tank, Jerry and Dave almost got caught in the girl's dormitory at Donnelly Private School after curfew. The late night rendezvous with three girls they met on the beach earlier in the day was more adventurous than they realized. Their ninja like skills were no match for the dorm advisor who happened to be a black belt. Of course Toby left out how they escaped.
"Wait," Embry laughed. He was sitting next to Evie. "I know for a fact my sister played some part in all of this." He bumped her shoulder as he laughed. He realized the only reason he was mad about the things Evie did before they met was a part of him was jealous. He missed out on those adventures with her. But part of him was still jealous.
"Shortness and Beth were our white female knights," Jerry laughed. "But even we don't know the full story on how they by passed the security." He looked at Evie who was sitting next to him.
Evie shook her head as she sat between Embry and Jerry. "All anyone needs to know is Beth and I showed up in Dune Buggies to rescue our horny little friends," she wagged her finger at Jerry, Dave and Tank. "I'm sworn to secrecy under Friendship Code which you all know can't be broken." She placed her hands on the table. As everyone did the same except Leah and Jacob.
"What the hell?" Leah asked looking around the table. She wasn't the only one left out. "Why are Jacob and I the only ones who don't know what's going on?" She snapped her fingers in front of Embry.
"Everyone puts their hands on the table agreeing to the Secrecy under the Friendship Code," Embry answered. "Evie explained some of the Friendship Codes but you and Jacob were out pat- I mean off…helping your mom." He leaned over and gave her a quick kiss.
"Does everyone know the secret?" Jacob asked looking around the table. "I can't believe you didn't tell me." He gave Bella a stern look which only made her laugh.
"I'm sorry," Bella laughed as she kissed his cheek. "I seriously thought you knew the Friendship Code." She leaned her head on his shoulder looking up him.
"No one knows who swore us to secrecy," Beth explained. "And we can't tell. Not even to our boyfriends or girlfriends which caused a lot of problems for the guys." She lightly punched Toby in the arm.
"Don't remind me," Toby groaned as he ran his hand down his face. "Jenny still brings it up and we aren't even fucking together." He glared at Beth. "Technically it was your fault for rubbing it in her face." He gently tugged on her hair.
"I only did that because she found out Rex was my first kiss," Beth blurted out before slapping a hand over her mouth.
"It is okay ex-girlfriend," Enzo smirked as he rubbed Beth's back. "We all knew." He gestured to mostly everyone as they nodded.
"Jenny," the guys and Evie said in unison.
"Which is the main reason we didn't invite her into the group," Toby stated. "Not to mention she's a bitch from hell who has a body of an angel but a soul of a cold hearted demon." He shrugged. "I only speak the truth." He stuffed a few fries in his mouth.
"You finally speak the truth," Dave said loudly as he held his hands up in the air. He moved before Toby could hit him. "I told you not to date her. She wasn't worthy of you. I'm just happy she's out of your life. The girl is evil." He pretended to shiver.
"She's your cousin," Tank said with a shake of his head. "You and she are connected by blood. She will always be in your life." He patted Dave on the back when he frowned. "Sorry man, I know you try to forget that piece of info." They bumped fists.
"In all fairness we were in kindergarten," Rex commented. He looked at Evie. "And I don't have shark teeth." He showed his teeth before sticking his tongue out at her.
Evie turned red. She was biting her lip trying to avoid looking at Paul.
"What am I missing?" Paul asked. Evie covered her face. "Shorty, don't make me go caveman." He couldn't help teasing her. She was having a lot of fun with the guys and it gave Embry a chance to understand why he felt comfortable having them around her. There was no sexual tension between any of them.
"Rex wanted to kiss me but Dave, Toby and Tank told me he had shark teeth and would bite my bottom lip off," Evie answered behind her hands. She was leaning on Jerry.
Embry pulled her over to him and gave her a hug. "It's okay Short Stuff," he said looking at Rex. "You kissed Beth to prove you didn't have shark teeth and Beth was helping a friend." He laughed. He pulled Evie closer when Jerry leaned over and whispered in her ear.
Evie gave Embry a dirty look before turning towards the table. "I'm sorry Rex but I was five and those three loved scaring me," she blew Rex a kiss. "But I was the first girl you danced with and you were my first crush…until I thought you had shark teeth." Everyone laughed at Rex's expression.
"I didn't know that," Rex replied shocked. He ran his fingers through his hair as he gave Evie a big smile and an exaggerated wink.
"I did," Paul and Jerry said at the same time. They laughed.
"Why didn't I know?" Embry asked hurt. He looked at Evie. "You never told me that." He thought she told him everything but of course that douche Jerry knew. He wanted to wipe that fucking smile off Jerry's face.
"Em, I was five and it wasn't something I tell everyone when I first meet them," Evie caught the pouting look on Rex's face. "Rexy, you know I love you." She winked at him.
"The kid still has it," Rex leaned back in his chair and popped his collar.
"Wait, who was your first kiss Evie?" Dave asked. "You never did tell us." He held up his hand before she could answer. "Better yet let's turn this into a guessing game. We each have one guess." He clapped his hands.
"How did this get turned around to my first kiss?" Evie asked confused. "Besides no one really cares about whom my first kiss was with." She looked around the table and frowned. The guys had their hands up.
"My sister is not playing this game," Embry protested looking at Paul for support.
"I smell a bet," Enzo laughed. "Beth can't play." He pinched Beth's cheek as she tried to get away from him. "She probably knows the answer." He began to tickle her.
"How much are we betting?" Tank asked pulling out his wallet.
"A hundred," Dave wiggled his eyebrows. "And I'll throw in an extra hundred if no one guesses right." He waved his money in the air.
"I'll bet a hundred," Rex laughed. Evie glared at him. "Don't be a spoil sport. You, Beth and Jenna made bets whether I could get Destiny to dance with me. I didn't get mad." He held his hands up.
"You're the one who made the bet with us," Evie pointed out laughing.
"That's beside the point," Rex retorted. "I was immature and didn't know better." He stuck his tongue out.
"Real mature little bro," Tank laughed. "Wasn't that bet six months ago?"
Rex glared at Tank and throw ice cubes at him. "I'm mature now," he said clenching his teeth.
"You know what, I don't even know who Evie's first kiss was," Beth replied. "How do I not know?" she asked looking around. "I'm betting." She dug into her purse.
"Does anyone else find this disturbing?" Bella asked. The guys had their money out.
"No," Rex, Beth, Enzo, Tank, Dave, Toby and Jerry replied in unison.
Evie looked at Paul for a moment before he nodded. "You're on suckers," she said smiling. "Toby and Jerry can't play. They know the answer." She laughed when Dave glared at her. "I think Leah should monitor the money as is goes in the middle."
"How the hell does Toby know?" Dave asked turning to face Toby. "Dude, we're bros-"
"Do not finish that sentence," Embry warned looking at Dave.
"He wasn't going to say that," Toby said standing up for his friend. "We're bros who pretty much tell each other everything. He's just surprised I could keep a secret." He lightly smacked Dave in the back of the head.
Paul looked at Jacob and Bella. "Are you really that surprised they want to bet on who Evie's first kiss was?" he asked with a smile. "Embry there is no way you can stop Shorty. You should know that by now." He leaned across the table and kissed Evie. "Make us some money baby." He tapped her nose as she smiled.
Jerry leaned over and whispered in Evie's ear. "Its easy money," he said happily. "Hey Leah, do you need help monitoring the money with these guys?" He gave her a big smile.
"Easy J," Evie cautioned. "She has a boyfriend." She lightly hit his arm.
"I'm just admiring the beautiful girl at our table," Jerry responded. He rested his chin on his hand as he looked at Leah.
Embry squeezed the table a little too hard making it crack. "I know she's beautiful," he muttered. Jerry was working his on last nerve and punching him in the face sounded really great at the moment. He looked at Evie and let out a frustrated breath. She would definitely be pissed at him if he did anything to that idiot Jerry. He messed up Evie's hair making her smile as she swatted his hand away.
"Thank you Jerry," Leah said as she reached for Embry's hand. Hoping it would stop him from breaking anything else. "But let's not piss off my boyfriend." She kissed Embry on the cheek.
"Not to mention the other three girls at the table," Beth said throwing a fry at Jerry.
"I'm sorry Beth, your right," Jerry apologized. "The table is full of beautiful woman." He bowed his head to each girl.
"This game would be even better with shots," Tank said leaning back in his chair.
"I believe Paul and I won the red ice chest challenge," Jacob smirked. "We thank you for the money." He bumped fists with Paul.
"I want a rematch," Tank said sticking his hand out to Jacob.
"You're on," Jacob shook Tank's hand.
"Remember last Virgin Standing," Toby groaned. "There were so many shots and not a lot of virgin's standing." He laughed.
"Don't remind me," Evie shook her head. "You combined it with Confess or Regret. The guys who played were drunk before the first round." She looked at Beth.
"They kept trying to confess to Evie and I until Enzo turned the water hose on them," Beth laughed. "Oh remember, Michelle Hindenburg, chased Rex around most of the night pledging her undying love and virginity to him." She laughed so hard she snorted.
"I don't remember it being that funny," Rex replied with his arms crossed.
"Kiss me Rex," Tank said in a high voice trying to imitate Michelle. "You're so hot." He puckered his lips at Rex.
Everyone was laughing as Rex turned red and tried to ignore his brother.
"Bertha Deleon," Enzo whispered in a slightly loud voice.
"That's fucked up Enzo," Dave scoffed as he flipped Enzo off. "The girl stocked me for months." It still gave him the creeps.
"You're not the only one," Evie replied with a glare towards Enzo.
"I completely forgot Shorty," Enzo quickly apologized. "You truly suffered more than anyone." He put his hands together and bowed his head.
"Was being my girlfriend that bad?" Dave asked looking hurt.
"I have to hear this story," Leah laughed. "I thought you didn't date any of the guys?" She held Embry's hand and gave it a squeeze.
"I was a freshman and the guys were sophomores. Bertha was in eighth grade and her older sister Rita was a junior with a huge crush on Tank," Evie began to explain. "Even though the party was for High School kids, Rita brought her sister since it was the only way she could go to the party." She took drink of her soda.
"It was during the Saints and Sinners Party," Beth continued. "Poor Bertha saw Dave across the room decked out in black; of course he was a sinner, talking to Leon. She immediately walked up to him and asked him to dance." She looked at Evie.
"Unfortunately at that exact moment I interrupted and pulled Dave to the dance floor," Evie said moving her hair over her shoulder. "This guy Ricky kept trying to…well let's just say he should have dressed like an octopus." She could feel the anger from Embry and Paul.
"What were you?" Leah asked with a smile.
"Saint with wings that fluttered," Evie replied. "I'll show you pictures." She ignored the frown on Paul's face.
"There is always one rule for Beth and Evie," Toby stated. "If they ever feel uncomfortable all they have to do is find one of us. No matter what we are doing, they come first." He smiled at Beth and Evie.
"We always kept track of them but sometimes they could get lost in the crowd," Jerry added. "But when they find us and trust me, Evie and Beth have interrupted me moments before having some fun but like Toby said, they come first." He bumped Evie's shoulder.
"I only did that once," Evie blushed. "Anyways, Ricky was bothering me and the first person I saw was Dave." She smiled at him. "I grabbed his hand and lead him to the dance floor. We danced maybe two or three songs before getting something to drink." She bumped Jerry's shoulder.
"Needless to say whenever Bertha was around," Dave gestured to Evie. "We pretended to be a couple." He winked at Evie.
"It must have ruined your game," Jacob smirked. He wrapped his arm around Bella's waist.
"It actually helped," Tank muttered. "At the Confess or Regret Party that year he won the entire thing." He punched Dave in the arm. "Asshole."
"Speaking of asshole's," Rex said loudly trying to get everyone's attention. "Let's start guessing who kissed Evie." He caught the ice chip Evie threw his way. "Toss me a fry." She quickly tossed a fry.
"Okay Evie, let's see what you got," Tank leaned back. He watched her face trying to guess. "I have two guesses but I'm only going to use one at the moment." He squinted at Evie.
"Dave said one guess," Embry pointed out.
"It's cool," Paul quickly said. "We have no problem taking his money." He winked at Evie.
"Whatever," Embry scoffed.
"Albert Ferguson?" Tank asked with a shrug.
"Albert?" Beth laughed. "He smelled like tuna." She was holding her side.
"No," Evie stated. She rolled her eyes at Tank. "Okay Sexy Rexy, your turn." She smiled. She ignored the irritated look on Embry's face.
"Well mine was easy," Rex said waving his hand at Beth.
"Whoa," everyone pretty much said at the same time.
"Just because I was your first kiss doesn't mean I was easy," Beth shouted. She tried not to laugh at the look of pure terror on Rex's face.
"Oh shit Beth," Rex quickly said moving away from Dave and Tank. "I didn't mean it like that. I just meant everyone knew who my first kiss was. I'm sorry." He got up and gave Beth a hug.
"He deserves to be punished," Jacob loudly called out.
"Punish, punish," Dave and Toby chanted.
Beth raised her hands to quiet Dave and Toby. "Since Rex is still begging for forgiveness," she replied putting her money in the middle. "I am guessing Kenny Taylor." Her cheeks were flushed as a goofy smile appeared on her face.
"He was three grades above us before he moved," Evie retorted. "Besides he was your secret crush until you started dating Enzo." She laughed when Beth turned red.
"That's true," Beth laughed. "He was hot." She waved her hand at Enzo. "Get over it ex-boyfriend." Enzo bumped her shoulder.
"I'm guessing Abe Parker," Rex stated as he put his money in the middle of the table.
"He moved to California during the last semester of our sophomore year. I was dating Dylan," Evie pointed out. She swatted Jerry's hand when he flicked her ear.
"I like to think of Dylan as a figment of our imagination," Jerry replied. "He never existed." He bumped fist with Toby.
"I agree," Paul said with his arms crossed. "He was the furthest thing from Evie's mind the night we first kissed." He smirked knowing it was also when he left her standing alone on the beach. But it was a fucking hot kiss.
"Was that before or after you tackled her?" Jacob asked tapping his chin.
"She mentioned a kiss on the rocks," Jerry replied confused. "The details were sketchy but she never once mentioned being tackled." The look on Evie's face made him smile. He knew Paul was the perfect guy for Evie. The look in her eyes when she talked about Paul was all the proof he needed.
"We were playing football," Paul began. "Seth and Quil were missing around and the ball was headed straight towards Shorty. I saved her." He shrugged as if it was an everyday thing to save Evie.
"Damn, he saved you and then you two kissed. All you said was that you met a gorgeous guy," Beth whined. "How hot was the kiss?" she asked leaning forward.
"Gorgeous?" Paul asked with a big smile. "We are definitely going to discuss how gorgeous I am." He loved the slight red tint coloring Evie's cheeks.
Jacob rolled her eyes at Paul. "I'm surprised your fat ego still fits on the planet," he stated.
"I really don't want to hear this," Embry commented. "It was bad enough watching it." He ignored the dirty look Paul and Evie gave him.
Evie looked at Paul with a small smile on her face. Even though he walked away from her that night, he changed her life. She never once felt guilty for kissing Paul while she was still with Dylan. "Another time," she replied smiling. She felt her cheeks get warm. "Dave, your turn," she said. The look in Paul's eyes made her heart beat faster.
"I still can't believe you told Toby and not me," Dave pouted. "I was your first 'boyfriend'. These are things we tell each other." He tapped Evie's nose before turning to Toby. "I still can't believe you've kept a secret. You suck at secrets." He crossed his arms and glared at Toby.
"Still not going to tell ya bro," Toby laughed as he punched Dave in the arm.
"I agree with Dave," Rex said looking at Toby with curiosity in his eyes. "You crack under pressure when squeezed." He looked around the table. His eyes got big. "Dave, your turn." He sat down and pulled out his wallet.
Dave watched Rex but thought better than to ask him anything. "I only have one guess because this is going to get costly," he rubbed his chin. "Joey Henderson." He smiled when Evie turned red.
"No," Evie mumbled. "He was my second kiss. But good guess." She took a drink of her water.
"When did that happen?" Embry asked with his arm around Leah.
Leah threw a wadded up napkin at Dave and pointed to the middle of the table. He winked at her as he placed his money in the pile.
"Under the mistletoe at Paige Reeves Christmas party," Paul answered as Jerry opened his mouth. He chuckled when Jerry narrowed his eyes at him.
"The night Rex lost his virginity," Beth said leaning over and pinching Rex's cheek.
"Sarah Webster," Rex announced with a smile.
Dave laughed before high fiving Rex and turning to pat Tank on the back. "I told she gave it up to the kid," he laughed. "That's fifty you owe me and Toby." He stuck out his hand waiting for the money. Toby did the same thing.
Tank sighed in frustration as he shot Rex a dirty look. He pulled out his wallet and pulled two fifties out. "Here you go," he muttered placing a fifty in each hand.
"I can't believe you actually betted against me," Rex said a bit hurt. He took a drink of his soda and turned away from Tank.
"Rex cut the pity act," Beth stated with a smile. She looked at Tank. "He had sex in your bed to get back at you for betting against him." She coughed as she pointed to Enzo.
Tank glared at Enzo before flipping off his brother. He had to give the little runt credit. Rex had balls to pull a stunt like that.
"I am shocked Enzo and Rex would do…ah who the hell am I kidding," Evie laughed. "I love you Tank but you had it coming." She raised her hand when he started to protest. "You teased Enzo about Rex being Beth's first kiss endlessly. So Enzo told Rex you were betting Sarah wouldn't give him a chance." She shrugged as she popped a fry in her mouth.
"Ah Evie I can't believe you didn't tell me," Tank pouted. "You're supposed to be my best friend." Jerry coughed. "I said she was my best friend not that I was hers," he clarified.
"I am your best friend," Evie responded. "That's why I washed your sheets and comforter." She blushed when Rex made a face. "Sorry Rexy but I couldn't let him sleep in those sheets. You know I would have done the same for you." The waitress took some of the empty glasses.
"Yeah, I know," Rex said with a big smile. "But it was still worth it. We could hear the music from the party next door." Enzo bumped his fist.
"How do you possible keep all this information straight?" Leah asked with a laugh. "I don't want to know a thing about Seth and Gina, especially about their sex life." She made a face.
"They haven't had sex," Evie stated bluntantly. "Seth doesn't want to rush Gina. He's being a gentleman. Unlike some people I won't mention." She gestured around the table.
"I was perfect gentleman when I bent-" Dave began before Beth covered his mouth.
"We all know what happen…more like heard," Evie said. She pretended to shiver.
Beth removed her hand from Dave's mouth. "I still have nightmares," she said in a small voice.
"About sex?" Embry asked.
"No," Jerry answered shaking his head laughing.
"Jackie's bedroom voice is sultry and sexy as hell. As a guy it's a turn on but her normal voice," Toby said with a pained look on his face. "Makes a guy's balls shrivel up and hide. Her voice is nasally and high pitched." He shivered thinking about it.
"Her body is perfect but when she starts talking all bets are off," Tank commented. He tossed some money in the middle of the table. "This is my last guess….hmm….oh crap…Randy….umm….rhymes with Angel…umm." He was scratching his head.
"Big boobs Jenkins," Enzo suggested. Beth gave him a dirty look. "What?" he asked shrugging.
Tank high-fived Enzo and patted him on the back. "Angel Jenkins younger brother Randy," he said with a big smile. "Remember her outfit at the Spring Clothing Optional Break Party, those tiny hot pink shorts and bikini top that only covered up her nipples." He licked his lips.
"You are a pig," Leah scoffed. She shook her head when he oinked like a pig.
"Welcome to our world," Beth and Evie said in unison.
"Yes we can have our own version of clothing optional," Bella whispered when Jacob opened his mouth.
"I love you," Jacob smiled. He gave Bella a quick kiss.
"Shorty I don't remember you telling me about a clothing optional party," Paul stated staring at his girl with a pissed off look.
"Yes I did," Evie replied with a look of her own. "Think really hard."
"I never heard of this party either," Embry remarked.
"Yes you have," Leah retorted. "It was the day I showed you my black lace underwear." She elbowed Embry in the ribs. The guys made a few remarks earning a death glare from Embry. "If you don't remember what happen afterwards then you are in big trouble." She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at him.
"I remember," Embry quickly replied with a big smile.
Paul's eyes widen with acknowledgement as a huge grim spread across his face. "I remember now," he said. "You might have to retell me. I'm a bit fuzzy on the rules." He winked at Evie making her blush.
"The only rule is to wear as little….oh," Toby laughed and then patted Paul on the back. "Yeah you might need to go over the rules again." He bumped fist with Paul.
Embry opened his mouth but Leah quickly slapped her hand over his mouth. "I'll explain the rules to you again," she said before leaning close to his ear, "on the way home." She kissed his cheek. That should distract him from commenting Paul's remark.
"Promise," Embry asked turning. Leah nodded and he gave her a quick kiss. "Okay, so was Randy your first kiss Evie?" he asked not really paying attention to the answer. He was ready to leave.
"No, he wasn't," Evie answered. "Randy wasn't the nicest person. He was a bit to hands on for me." She made a face.
"Which explains why Rex punched him," Dave nodded. He laughed when Paul high-fived Rex.
"Last guess," Jerry announced. He pinched Evie's cheek before she could hit his hand away.
"They are all good guesses though," Beth stated. She tied her straw into a bow and placed it on Enzo's head.
"Most if not all had huge crushes on Evie," Toby replied. "But most of them were losers." He made the 'L' sign with his thumb and index finger.
"Who's taking the last guess?" Tank asked looking around.
Rex slapped down his money. "I'm guessing Toby," he smirked. "Evie is always around us and rarely alone without one of us in close proximity." He looked around the table. Some faces where shocked at his guess while others began to nod in agreement.
"Keep going," Dave stated. "You're making a lot of sense." He shook his fist at Toby and smiled.
"It makes sense for Jerry to know," Rex continued. "He's her best friend….don't look so smug," he said throwing a fry at Jerry. "If it was any of us we would have talked but Toby hasn't sad a damn word." He folded his arms with a smug look on his face.
Dave and Tank pulled their wallets and tossed money in the middle of the table. "We split the proceeds in three," Tank stated. Rex and Dave nodded. "Okay girl, give it up. We know it was Toby, lucky bastard." He had a huge smile on his face.
"Sorry to bust your bubble boys but it was Jerry," Paul said with his arms crossed.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Enzo shouted. "I call bullshit." He looked at Toby.
"No way," Rex exclaimed. "Shorty, say it ain't so?" He shook his head in disbelief.
"When?" Dave asked with his arms on the table. "How could we not know that?"
"The details aren't important but it was Jerry," Paul explained. He made it a point to look at everyone around the table. "But it did seal their friendship." He wasn't upset which was a good thing. Evie belonged to him and no one else.
"I found out and kept the secret," Toby said proudly. "Which kind of me makes me her best friend too but Jerry is the first best friend." He fist bumped Jerry.
"I will collect my winnings now," Evie happily clapped.
Leah was gathering the money and waiting for Dave to hand over the hundred for no one guessing right.
"Wait…he put his hands on you?" Dave asked pissed off.
"What are you talking about?" Jacob asked confused. "Who put hands on whom?"
"I think Dave is finally losing it," Jerry laughed. "It was bound to happen."
"Randy, you said he was hands on with you," Dave asked looking at Evie.
"Is that true?" Embry asked turning to face her.
"No," Evie sighed. "He kept trying to hold my hand and stuff but he didn't touch…well…you know." She gestured to her chest area.
"He didn't touch the pillows," Rex stated. "He definitely didn't get the cookie or the shake. I would have seriously hurt him if he tried." He bumped fist with Dave.
"What?" Paul, Embry and Jacob said at the same time.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Embry looked around the table confused and a bit irritated that the girls were opening laughing at him.
"You are too cute," Leah said laughing. She kissed Embry's cheek.
"Baby seriously?" Evie asked looking at Paul. "You've never heard that phase?" He shook his head no.
"People say I'm naïve and innocent," Bella laughed. She kissed Jacob's pouting lips. "I'll show you when we get home." She laughed when he nibbled her ear.
"I still don't understand," Paul said leaning forward with hands on the table. "Evie, are you going to explain or continue laughing."
"Oh let's do the dance," Beth suggested standing up. She motioned for Evie to stand.
Leah hit the table. "Hell, I want to dance too," she said standing up.
"Fine, let's get this over with," Evie stood up and pulled her back.
"You can't have my cookie," Beth and Evie sang as they covered their front below their waist. Leah was laughing as they continued. They all turned around and looked over their shoulder. "But you can watch my shake." They shook their asses making the guys clap and howl in fun except Embry who was glaring at his sister and girlfriend. "If you're a good boy," they sang as they turned around. "You can rest on my pillows." They moved their hands under their breasts and lifted them. The guys clapped.
"I think I need to see another demonstration," Dave shouted. He ignored the looks Embry was giving him.
Paul stood and walked over to Evie. He cupped her face as he kissed her. "That was hot to watch but let's keep that performance in our bedroom," he kissed her again.
"Check please," Jacob said turning to Bella. "I have an outfit in mind for that performance." He laughed when she began to blush.
"What did you think Embry?" Leah asked sitting down. She high-fived Enzo and Beth first but then Dave, Tank and Toby joined in.
Jerry noticed the angry look in Embry's eyes. The guy was ready to explode.
"Remember Jenn Washington," Tank said smiling. "She had some nice pillows." He ate a couple of fries.
Paul sat down pulling Evie down on his lap. "We are definitely getting our alone time tonight," he whispered before nipping at her ear.
"Didn't she hook up with Jerry for some tonsil hockey?" Dave asked as he handed over the money to Leah.
"For one," Toby added as he bumped fist with Rex.
"Hey, I was drunk and she offered," Jerry exclaimed. "She took advantage of me." He tried not to smile.
"You can't take advantage of the willing," Enzo laughed.
"That's not what you said about Doreen McDonald," Evie stated. Enzo shot her a look. "She was Enzo's first kiss," she explained when Leah raised an eyebrow. She tossed a fry at Enzo.
"Oh yeah," Beth laughed. "According to Doreen, your kisses were like clouds of sunshine." Everyone laughed.
"Ha ha," Enzo scoffed. "What about Karen Macy?" He smirked when Toby growled at him.
"Asshole," Toby snapped. "Girl was a fucking stalker." He flipped Enzo off.
"Oh Toby Bear," Evie said with a shake of her head. "Karen Macy was this beautiful girl most of the guys wanted to hook up with but she only had eyes for Toby." They both shivered at a long forgotten memory.
"Remember that night at your house Evie Bear," Toby leaned forward and patted Evie's hand.
"How could I forget?" Evie asked. She caught the look on Paul's face. "Sorry babe it was one of those memories I try to forget." She could see the tightness in his jaw. She moved her finger over his cheek.
"So what happen?" Paul asked. He knew nothing happen physically but the wolf was feeling territorial. Having Evie on their lap helped.
"Yeah, Evie Bear, what happen?" Embry asked sarcastically.
Leah pinched his thigh. "Knock it off," she warned.
"Quit being an ass," Jerry demanded as he glared at Embry.
Jacob gave Embry a hard look. "I suggest you let Evie and Toby tell us the story," he stated. He nodded for Evie to continue.
"Umm… we were at my house watching movies and it was raining," Evie began. She sensed Paul's frustration every time he tried to go under her shirt but stopped when Embry looked at him. "Toby and I ended up with strep throat during Christmas Break. My mom suggested he stay at our house so the others wouldn't catch it." She leaned forward to take a drink of her soda. Her skin was exposed on her back. Paul moved his hand from her hip to her waist. He practically purred from the skin on skin contact.
"The lights flickered off and Evie tried to scream but of course it came out in whispered gasps," Toby continued. "There was a hooded figure standing outside the glass doors." He shook his head. "I couldn't yell either so I threw one of vases against the wall to get someone's attention. Marshall and Derek ran into the room and quickly grabbed the person." He leaned back in his chair.
"Toby hooked up with Karen two weeks before and she followed him to my house," Evie explained. Paul was moving his thumb over her skin creating a warm trail long her waist.
"Karen started screaming at the top of her lungs how much she loved me and we were meant to be together," Toby said. "Marshall called the Police." He swatted Tank's hand away when he began to pat him on the head.
"We had to get restraining orders against her," Evie said. "After the judge heard our side of the story, we found out Karen had been stalking Toby for six months. That's how long it took her to work up the nerve to talk to him at Stephanie Stewart's party." She waited for Paul to say something but instead he remained quiet. She didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
"Evie ended up having nightmares that entire week we were sick," Toby looked around the table. "I slept in her room on the fold out bed and held her hand. It's pretty much what we do at most sleep overs." He shrugged.
"Why do you have to sleep next to Evie at all?" Embry asked. He was leaning forward staring at Jerry.
"It's been that way since forever," Jerry answered. "Evie would have terrible nightmares as a kid and having me sleep next to her while Toby held her hand kept the nightmares away." He turned in his chair to face Embry.
"What were these suppose nightmares about?" Embry asked in air quotes. He was still looking at Jerry when Evie spoke.
"I don't want to talk about right now," Evie quickly said. She was leaned back on Paul.
Paul glared at Embry. He could see the jealousy dripping off him. "Drop it," Paul hissed glaring at Embry.
Leah pinched Embry's thigh. She was getting tired of his attitude. Between the constant remarks under his breath about Jerry or his disapproval of Evie having fun with her friends was starting to wear thin.
"What do you guys have planned for this vacation?" Jacob asked trying to change the subject. He wanted to hit Embry for being a jerk.
"Try and have a quiet vacation with a lot of boarding," Toby answered. "Of course there are the occasion girls who are looking for the hot Cali guys." He smirked as he gestured to himself.
"You are too modest," Dave said rolling her eyes.
"Not all of us have the perfect vacation," Enzo joked.
Dave groaned. "It was the perfect vacation," he sighed. "Mexico, sandy beaches and a perfect romance with no strings attached." He bowed his head and sighed. "She was the leader of her schools Youth Abstinent Program. She was very commitment to her cause." He nodded his head as a slow smile spread across his lips.
"The devil in disguise took poor Lizzie Masters innocence the first night they met," Evie said in a disapproval tone. "She was friends with Jenny, Dave's cousin and Toby's ex."
"She was hot and all over me," Dave shrugged. "It was my duty as a man to take care of her needs. Over and over and over…you guys get the idea." He patted himself on the back.
"Tool," Beth muttered.
"It's not like he took advantage of her," Rex pointed out. "She was hot though."
"Those were the same words Tank said about Janice Thomas," Jerry said with a smirk.
"Janice is hot," Tank said defensively. "We just wanted different things." He folded his arms across his chest.
"Janice wanted a commitment," Beth stated with a shrug.
"Tank wanted to be friends with benefits," Enzo added.
"She stopped talking to him," Evie continued. "He moped around for about a week." She smiled at Paul.
"Hooked up with Diane Fontana," Jerry said with a shake of his head. "Dated her exclusively for one week," he held up one finger.
"Then realized he was too young to be tied down…blah…blah…but Diana felt the same way and broke up with him," Dave stated.
"Which was the best thing that could have happen," Toby said. He lifted his drink to Tank.
"To all the rebound girls in the world," Tank said lifting his glass.
"Pathetic," Evie scoffed throwing a fry at Tank who caught it in his mouth.
"I'm just curious," Embry said looking at the guys. "Do you all tell my sister your perverted conquests?" He watched as each of them looked from one another before turning back towards him.
"Please they don't tell us anything," Beth scoffed. "Most of the girls tell us as a warning to back off. But none of us have ever hooked up…well except for me and Enzo. Our friendships are too important to us." She leaned forward with her elbows on the table.
"Embry I know it's hard to believe but they don't talk about their 'conquests'," Evie stated. "Just like we don't tell them our conquests or rather lack of, well maybe tell them some things but not everything…I'm going to stop talking." Her cheeks felt hot and she quickly took a drink of water.
"While I won our bet," Dave said turning to Tank. "Phoebe has a new date to Winter Formal." He rubbed his hands together. "Never bet against the King." He stood up and did an Elvis Presley pose. "Thank you, thank you very much." His hands were in the air as he curled his top lip.
"You betted your date to Phoebe Castle," Beth asked. "Wait a minute." She stood up and placed her hands on the table. "I wasn't aware of any bet and I know Evie wasn't either." She stared at Dave.
Evie was staring at Tank. "One of you better start talking or forfeit all bets," she was leaning forward with a smirk on her face. She was standing up with her hands on the table as well. She felt when Paul lightly slipped his finger through the loop of her pants.
"Embry, you might want to move back," Jerry whispered. "This could get ugly or comical. It depends on how the guys answer." He smiled with Evie glanced at him.
"She's my sister. I can handle her," Embry stated. He tried to move towards her but ended up getting hit on the hand and glared at.
"Leave her alone," Leah sang as she watched.
"It was a side bet," Dave said in a scared voice. He tried to stand up but Toby held him down.
"Not a good idea," Toby whispered. "Remember Cabo?"
"You guys made the rules and we enforce them," Beth stated with her arms crossed. Enzo was holding the back of her shirt.
"Rule number ten all side bets must go through Beth and Evie who will determine if the side bet is valid," Evie stated with her hands on her hips. "Rule number sixteen you may not use girls as payment." She shook her head.
"Do we have to remind you of Miami or Houston?" Beth asked waving the waitress away.
"I wanted another soda," Rex pouted. Beth gave him a look and he quickly sat up. "I can wait." He blew Beth a kiss.
"I am so disappointed in both of you," Evie sighed. She sat down on Paul's lap. "Tank, the punishment will have to be severe. It's the only way you will learn." The smile on her face made him wince.
"You're not off the hook either Dave," Beth pointed a finger at him. "How could you take the bet?" She sat down.
Jacob raised his hand. "What happen in Miami?" he asked.
"Jerry and Toby made a bet regarding a girl and her brother found out. Let's just say it took Evie's fast talking and my skills on the computer to get the brother off Jerry and Toby's back," Beth explained. "Not to mention the black eyes and broken nose they received was punishment enough for them." She waved for the waitress and ordered another round of drinks.
"Houston?" Leah asked leaning forward.
"We went to a basketball game and a certain player's daughter Mia was making eyes at Dave and Tank," Evie began. She looked at Tank. "He bragged to Dave that Mia gave him a BJ in the elevator and of course Dave instantly wanted proof. If Tank couldn't provide proof then Dave was free to hit on Mia. Tank tried to get Mia to admit to it but of course she denied everything. Dave won and proceeded to make moves on Mia, who was fine with it and they ended up in the bathroom." She rolled her eyes at Dave.
"The next thing you know, Mia comes screaming out of the bathroom," Rex said patting his brother on the back. "She threw a bottle at Tank for betting on her then she tried to punch Beth for allowing the guys to bet." He pointed at Tank when Beth glared at him. "It was his fault. I was minding my own business."
"I got in between Beth and Mia but the girl had an arm," Enzo said rubbing his chin.
"Tell me about it," Evie replied pointing to her left eye. "I ended up with a black eye and a broken finger because of them." She pointed to Tank and Dave. "Who the hell tells a girl in the middle of sex that you won her in a bet?" She threw her napkin at Dave.
"In all fairness," Dave said holding up his hands when Embry and Paul turned towards him. "I was fifteen and an idiot. I wasn't the suave guy you see now." He gestured towards himself.
"Come on Evie," Tank playfully said. "You know it felt good to punch her. She was a nasty ass bitch to you and Beth the moment she saw you guys. She tried to get you both kicked out of the booth." He pouted making his eyes big. "We took our punishment."
"What did Evie do to Mia?" Leah asked excited.
"Busted lip, black eye and knocked out her two front teeth," Jerry answered proudly.
Embry and Paul stared at Evie in surprise. Leah high-fived Evie and shouted her approval.
"The only reason I hit her was to defend myself," Evie said holding up her hands. "I admit to the busted lip and black eye." She could feel her cheeks turning red. "She tried to head butt me and I held up one of the serving trays. She knocked her own teeth out." She moved her hair behind her ears.
"But why did she attack you?" Embry asked in shock. He couldn't believe his little sister who weighs practically nothing actually got into a fight.
"Evie walked into the room and I yelled 'Watch out babe' and Mia turned around and hit her," Dave said. "Needless to say it was the last time we used a girl as payment." He looked around the table. "What?"
"You just tried to use another girl for payment," Embry scoffed. "No wonder Evie and Beth are the only smart ones of the group." He bumped Evie's shoulder.
"I agree with that last statement," Beth commented.
"Me too," Evie laughed. She pinched Embry's cheek.
Embry looked over at Jerry behind Evie's back and mouthed 'my sister asshole' and smiled. Jerry flipped him off and mouthed 'eat shit'.
Evie could see Embry and Jerry in the reflection off the window. She took a deep breath and stood up. "Okay, I have tried to ignore the dirty looks and the mean little comments under both your breaths," she said moving away from the table. She grabbed Embry and Jerry's hands. "I love you both and you are two of the most important people in my life…," she stopped when Paul coughed and Tank, Dave, Toby, Rex, Enzo and Beth threw their hands in the air. "Along with everyone else at the table," she amended.
"Thank you," Toby said. He took a drink of soda.
"My feelings were hurt but you rectified the situation," Dave remarked before stuffing fries in his mouth.
"Rectified," Enzo and Rex laughed as they high-fived one another.
"So immature," Beth sighed rolling her eyes.
"I call Friendship time out and before you say anything," Evie quickly said looking at Embry. "Jerry will explain everything to you." The guys and Beth started to hum the death march.
"Evie, come on," Jerry protested as he stood up. She shook her head. "Come on Embry let's get this over with." He gestured for Embry to follow him.
"I'm not going," Embry stood towering over Evie. "You can't make me." He ignored the death glare Paul and Jerry shot his way.
"You're going," Leah snapped. She was tired of the comments too. He and Jerry were a lot alike if they only gave each other a chance.
Embry looked at Leah and sighed. She was close to handing him his ass for being an idiot. "Fine," he muttered as he followed Jerry.
"I'll referee," Paul said getting up. He waved off Toby. "Don't worry Shorty; I'll make them play nice." He gave her a kiss as he pulled her against him. She had her arms wrapped around his waist. He kissed her nose when he pulled away. "Okay Rex, I know you want to seat next to my girl." He laughed as Rex ran around the table. He saluted Paul.
"I will guard her with my life," Rex smiled. He put his arm around Evie and turned to Leah. "Did she tell you the time we went whale watching?"
"No," Leah shrugged. She was trying to understand where this topic was going.
"Throwing a stuffed whale into the pool is not whale watching," Toby shouted.
Evie grabbed Rex's chin. "Did you really think changing the subject would make us forget Rexy? Tut tut, silly boy," she moved his chin side to side. "Have a seat Rex." She laughed taking a step away from him.
Leah rubbed her hands together. "I can't wait to see what punishment those two get," she laughed when they shot her a dirty look. "Give me all the dirty looks you want, it doesn't change the fact you boys are in trouble." She high-fived Rex as they laughed.
Beth was slowly walking around the table. Dave and Tank were visibly nervous.
"I kind of feel bad for them," Toby whispered to Jacob and Bella. "They got me good in Cabo." He shivered just thinking about it.
"What happen in Cabo?" Jacob asked watching Evie and Beth stand next to Dave and Tank.
"We'll tell you later," Beth answered. She threw her arms around Tanks shoulders. "I love you Tank." She kissed his cheek. "You're so strong and smart." She rubbed his shoulders.
"That feels so good," Tank mumbled. "A little to the left…yeah that's it, right there." He smiled as his head dropped forward.
Dave turned and smiled at Evie. He patted his lap. "I know you love me Shortness," he wrapped an arm around her waist.
"Of course I do," Evie replied running her fingers through Dave's hair. She smiled when he rolled his eyes. Everyone knew he loved his hair to be played with.
Leah watched as Evie continued to run her fingers through Dave's hair. He was practically purring and lapping up all the attention. She noticed Toby shake his head and move his hand across his neck.
"They start off so sweet and innocent," Toby stated as he pretended to wipe a tear away.
"Then they cut your testicles off," Enzo added as he watched Beth lightly tap Tank's nose and rest her head on his.
"Put them in their purse," Rex frowned. "And make you carry the purse around." He pretended to wipe tears away from his eyes. "Bye bye big brother…Hello big sister Tamika." He waved at Tank.
"Tamika?" Jacob asked laughing.
"Oh yeah, we all have girl names," Toby replied. "It keeps it interesting. I'm sure Evie will give you the low down on the names." He patted Jacob on the back.
Evie looked at Beth and they both grabbed a fist full of the guys hair and tilted their heads back. The guys were shocked at first but quickly recovered. Evie let go of Dave's hair when he smiled.
"The punishment will be you two skiing down the mountain in girl panties," Beth stated as she let go of Tank's hair. "Only panties," she smirked.
The guys groaned and covered there groin area.
"Of course the rules state Beth and I must both confirm said punishment," Evie smacked Dave in the back of the head when he blew kisses at her. "You will never change, pervert." She laughed as she rubbed the back of his head before kissing his cheek.
"You wouldn't have me any other way," Dave pointed out laughing.
"So very true," Evie laughed.
"What's the rest of the punishment?" Bella asked swatting Dave's hand away from her cheek.
"Beth will send me a video in order for us to release Tank and Dave from their punishment since I am not going skiing," Evie held up her hands when the guys began to boo. "Be nice. It's my first Thanksgiving with my new family and you know how important family is to me. Besides I'm working on Christmas. I miss surfing more than I thought." She kissed Tank on the cheek and went to seat next to Rex.
"I am seriously impressed," Leah clapped. "Don't get me wrong I've heard Paul tell the guy's how you and Beth handle all the crazy party rules and keep them all in line…but to see it in person is really remarkable." She smiled before taking a drink of her soda.
"Well look what the hot tempered boyfriend dragged in," Jacob laughed. He laughed harder when Embry flipped him off.
"Two guys vying for the top spot of brother to our heroine Evie McIntyre," Toby announced as he watched Embry and Jerry walk over to their table. He held one hand over his ear and used the other as a microphone. "Jacob you've know Embry Call since he was a little kid scratching his ass and picking his nose. What are his chances in winning the top spot?" he asked. Tank and Dave laughed while everyone else snickered.
Jacob didn't miss a beat. He pulled his arm from around Bella's shoulders and used it as a microphone. "By the look on Leah Clearwater, Embry's girlfriend, she had no clue he scratched his ass or picked his nose. But in his defense Embry just stopped scratching his ass this morning when he realized it was his friend Quil's ass he'd been scratching this entire time," he said with a big grin. "She's on her own in stopping him from picking his nose." Everyone was laughing.
"Leah if you decide to dump the ass scratcher slash nose picker, Jerry Fisher is willingly to fill that spot but you must know he's secretly in love with Tank who's secretly in love with Enzo who's secretly in love with Rex who's secretly in love with Dave who's secretly in love with…himself," Toby stated as he took a dramatic breath.
Everyone was getting a kick out the guys' commentary. They were throwing out requests of certain incidents regarding the guys. Beth pointed to Embry and Jerry.
"Seems Jerry and Embry are being forced to stand as the ever present Paul Lahote picks up our heroine Evie and gently places her on his lap," Rex continued the commentating. "Paul after rescuing our beautiful girl Evie what are your plans for tonight," he moved his hand under Paul's chin but quickly moved it back when Embry growled. "Let's keep the details at a G rating as not to upset her brother Embry." He smiled and placed his hand under Paul's chin.
"My girl and I will spend a quiet evening alone with no interruptions," Paul stated. He kissed Evie. "Embry and Jerry apologized." He buried his face in the crook of her neck and took a deep breath.
"What a coincidence," Bella laughed. "We have the same plans." She gestured to Jacob and herself.
Evie giggled when Paul nibbled on her neck. "Okay, stop," she smiled. "You can give me the Paul Lahote treatment later." She tapped his nose.
"See if we were as cute as they are," Enzo said lightly hitting Beth on the arm. "We would still be together." He threw his arm over Beth's chair.
"True," Beth said with her chin in her hand. "But honestly the sex was awful and I got tired of faking it." She shrugged and bit the inside of her mouth to keep from laughing.
"Just when you think Beth is sitting around on the side lines," Toby said trying not to laugh. "She throws Enzo a curve ball calling him out on his lack of sexual performance."
"Okay enough," Leah said standing up laughing. "I want to hear Embry and Jerry's apologizes." She motioned for Embry and Jerry to begin.
"Leah…umm…they don't have to apology to anyone but themselves," Beth explained. "The whole point is to trust they worked out their issues." She sat up.
"If we don't than it will ruin the friendships we have," Jerry continued. "We love Evie too much to ever see her hurt because of our stupidity." Jerry kissed the top of Evie's head.
"Plus Evie's heart is big enough to love all of us," Embry smirked. "A very wise person pointed that out to me." He lightly punched Jerry.
Tank pulled out his phone and groaned. "Are plane leaves in thirty," he announced. "My grandparents are waiting for us." He got up and walked to the front.
"He hates goodbyes," Evie whispered.
"They all do Shorty," Paul replied. He helped Evie to her feet. He put his arm around her shoulders.
Evie looked around at all the sad faces. "Your right," she leaned her head on his chest.
Everyone quietly went outside. The light rain falling seemed to signify the end of their brief reunion. They talked while they waited for Tank to come out. Bella and Jacob were talking to Dave and Rex. Evie leaned against Toby as Paul held her hand. Jerry punched Embry in the arm as Leah laughed alongside Beth and Enzo.
Tank watched his friends through the glass window. It was strange how life went on even though they were missing one of the most important people in their lives. He didn't have to ask Evie if she felt the same way. He knew the answer. The waitress handed him back his card. He smiled as he signed the receipt and left a big tip.
Evie let go of Toby and Paul walked into Tank's arms. He held her close as he kissed the top of her head. "It was really good seeing you," Evie whispered. She pulled away but kept her arms around his waist.
Tank tapped her chin. "Ah Short Stuff, you will be missed on our trip but I expect to see you for Christmas," he smiled. He put his finger over her lips. "No arguments."
Evie nodded before turning around. Everyone was taking their time saying goodbye. She gave Tank another hug before kissing his cheek. He messed with her hair before letting her go. She turned and hugged Beth. They laughed as tears slowly began to roll down their cheeks.
Embry watched Evie with Tank and Beth. He could see the sadness in Evie's eyes. Derek was right. She needed her friends as much as they needed her.
"I might have some good news later this week," Beth whispered. She pulled away and smiled. "No questions." She was biting her lip nervously.
Evie narrowed her eyes as she looked Beth in the eyes. "Fine, but as soon as you can talk," she whispered. "Call me." They nodded and gave each other another hug.
Rex shook Jacob's hand. "You definitely need to join us for another day of surfing," he said. He patted Jacob on the arm.
Dave gave Bella a hug. "Yeah, maybe we can even get Bella here to give it a try, in a little bikini," he smiled when Bella blushed.
Jacob turned to Dave with an annoyed look but quickly smiled. "Not a bad idea," he said shaking Dave's hand while Rex rescued Bella from Dave. "But you'll never get to see it." He lightly smacked Dave in the back of the head.
"A guy can dream," Dave laughed. He bumped Jacob's fist as they laughed.
Toby shook Paul's hand. "I agree with Rex," he said watching Evie and Beth. "You guys should join us in Hawaii. The waves are amazing." He ruffled Evie's hair before she hugged Enzo.
"I'll keep that in mind," Paul replied. "But I know Shorty would love to go." He knew Embry could hear them. He kissed the top of Evie's head before turning to shake Tank's hand.
Evie winked at Paul. "Remember to turn away from the trees and do not go down the jump," she teased as she pinched Enzo's cheek.
Enzo moved his head back and forth until he was out of Evie's reach. "I hit the tree once," he scoffed.
"True but does the kiddie slope count," Jerry laughed. "And let's not forget the porch as he skied across the front yard." He moved away when Enzo tried to punch him.
Rex came up behind Evie and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Junior Year sucks without you Baby Girl," he smiled when she turned around.
"I know the feeling Baby Boy," Evie rested her head on Rex's chest. She inhaled and smiled. There was a hint of ocean and sugar on his clothes. He always stashed candy in his undershirt drawer. "The triplets are no more." She smiled when he smirked.
"We may not be at the same school," Rex looked at Beth. "There a few things we have in the works that need your special touch." He laughed when Evie's eyes got big. "Expect a call later this week or next." He winked at her.
Evie shook her head at Rex. "It must be good if the guys don't know," she whispered. He nodded before laughing. "Oh, it's really good." She laughed knowing Junior Year was going to get a lot better.
Embry looked at Paul with a frown in his face. What were Evie and Rex up to? By the look on their faces, Derek might have to call in a few favors.
"Just remember to stay out of trouble," Dave said as he pulled Evie away from Rex. "You and Beth are up to something but I don't want to know a thing. You just need to meet us for some surfing and help us plan the Saints and Sinner Party."
"Please Beth and I planned it out a few weeks ago," Evie said with a wave of her hand. "We sent the details to Connie and invites go out the beginning of December." She patted Dave's cheek. "Did you honestly think I would let my best buds plan a party all by themselves? I'm hurt." She blinked her eyes a few times before laughing.
Dave gave her a big hug. "I miss you Baby Girl," he said close to her ear. When he pulled away he wiped a tear from her cheek. "You always know how to keep me in check. I thought I had at least one more year before I headed to college."
"I may not live a few blocks away anymore," Evie tried to smile. "But I will always keep you check." She gave him another hug.
"My turn," Toby announced as he tapped Dave on the shoulder.
Evie laughed as she turned and hugged Toby. "Ah Toby Bear," she smiled. "Promise me you will take care of them?" She gestured to the guys and Beth.
"I always do," Toby replied. "Except when playing a game or chasing girls or surfing naked or chasing girls…but what were you saying?" he asked scratching his head. She punched him in the stomach. "I'm playing…I always look out for them." He laughed as he kissed the top of her head.
"We need to head out," Tank announced looking around.
Evie kissed Toby on the cheek. The last person she needed to say goodbye to, was also the hardest one. She walked over to Jerry as he walked over to her. He kissed her forehead before pulling her into a tight hug.
"Remember to take care of yourself," Jerry quietly said. "We'll call you next weekend and we'll see you at Christmas." He held up his hand when she pulled away. "Even if we have to kidnap you, we will. We understand about Thanksgiving but we get Christmas." He tapped her nose.
"I won't argue," Evie replied trying not to cry. "I'm just happy you and Embry worked things out. I can't have my brothers fighting." She moved her hair behind her ear. "Thanks for working it out." She gave him a tight hug.
"Anything for you Shortness," Jerry answered. He knew it was hard for her to see Embry hurt by the time they missed out on. He waved for the guys and Beth to give one group hug.
Embry kissed Leah's head. He finally understood what these guys and Beth mean to Evie. Everything Paul told him was right. They loved her and would do anything to protect her. Their friendship was strong but it didn't take away from the bond Evie has with him or Paul. Her heart was big enough for them all.
Irina walked through the trees reciting the alphabet in Greek. He was somewhere close by and she couldn't afford a single mistake. She started to hum any song that crossed her mind. There were so many floating around in her head, the curse of immortality. A smiled graced her face as a familiar song swirled around.
"Irina, I've never seen you so relaxed and content," Edward replied. He walked out through the trees slowly moving around her. He sensed her surprise but what raised his suspicion was the songs and lack of thoughts. She was always thinking about something even if it was her own vanity.
"Edward, it's good to see you," Irina smiled. "I take it Alice is doing well? I'm sorry for making you travel so far to meet. It was a bit difficult to slip away unnoticed. They seem to be watching me closely." She gave him a hug and began to recite her favorite song.
"I'm curious," he said watching her. "You've never hidden your thoughts from me before; it makes me think your hiding something dear cousin." The smile on her face began to fall. He leaned against the tree. The surrounding area was quiet with little to no interruption.
"Edward, I couldn't hide anything from you," she laughed. "Alice would know if I was lying or hiding something." She continued to recite the lyrics.
"Of course she would," he laughed. "Silly of me to think you would plot with Carlisle." He took a few steps away from the tree. "But then again Jasper knows how to get around Alice's visions." He smile at Irina as it finally dawned on her. They knew what she was up to.
"Edward, please," Irina began as backed away. "I was only pretending with them. It was part of the plan to get close to them." She reached into her pocket but was slammed against a nearby tree.
"You shouldn't have tried to cross us," Edward hissed as he yanked her arm behind her. She cried out as her arm began to tear away from her body.
"We don't have much time," Alice stated as she appeared next to Edward. She grabbed Irina's phone and texted everything was fine. "Jasper will wait a while before texting her again." She closed her eyes as she tried to see.
"Sorry Irina but it must be done," Edward whispered. Nothing was going to stand in his way of being with Bella. He placed his foot on Irina's back and pulled her arms, tearing them away from her body.
Irina was in shock. Not a sound passed her lips. If she could still cry, tears would be flowing down her cheeks. Her sisters Tanya and Kate will never know what happen to her. She opened her mouth to scream but the sound of screeching filled her ears.
Edward set Irina's body on fire as Alice tossed the arms and head into the flames. They circled the fire making sure nothing was left behind. Alice tossed the phone in the flames and smiled.
"There in place and everything is set," Alice turned to Edward. "By the time we reach the car it will begin to pour." She smiled as she placed her hand on his arm.
"And Bella will be on her way home to me," Edward smiled.
Evie sat in the back seat with Paul. She finally stopped crying and felt exhausted. "Thanks for putting all of this together," she said smiling. "I needed to see them. Plus now that Embry and Jerry worked things out, I feel a lot better." She kissed Paul on the cheek. "I love you."
"Anything for you Shorty," Paul replied. He wiped the last of the tears away from her eyes. He caressed her cheek. "I love you too." He slowly kissed her but quickly stopped when he remembered they weren't alone.
"Soon baby, soon," Evie whispered. She nibbled on his earlobe before snuggling against him.
"It looks like rain," Bella announced looking out the window. She smiled when Jacob squeezed her hand.
"I need to use the restroom," Evie said looking out the window. "Are we close to home?"
"Not too far but I know you," Paul teased. "We can stop at the diner. I'm hungry." He laughed when she rolled her eyes.
"Me too," Jacob said from the driver's seat. "Besides I think Bella needs to stop too."
"Hey," Bella exclaimed. "I wasn't planning on announcing it." She playfully hit Jacob in the arm. They had a lot talking to do but it would have to wait.
"I'll let you girls off by the door," Jacob suggested. "Paul let Embry know. Leah can walk in with the girls." He signaled to get into the next lane. The diner was up ahead and it didn't look crowded. The rain slowly turned into a heavy downpour.
"Hey Leah," Paul said into his phone as he kept Evie close to him. "The girls have to use the restroom and we're dropping them off by the front of the diner before parking." He looked behind to make sure Embry wasn't too far behind.
Jacob could see how nervous Bella was at the moment. "Everything will work out," he whispered to her as Paul talked on the phone.
"Embry will drop me off at the front," Leah replied. She knew what they were thinking. It was nice to get out and not worry about anything but now that they were back home, it was a different story.
Jacob pulled into the parking lot and stopped by the front door. He gave Bella a kiss before she hopped out. "I love you," he said.
"I love you too," Bella smiled before closing the door.
Paul held Evie a second longer. "Are you sure you're okay?" he asked a little concerned.
Evie kissed him. "Yes," she said before kissing him again. "I'll see you inside." She smiled as she got out.
Bella was standing inside as Evie walked through the door. They looped their arms together as they waited for Leah. She was barely getting out of the car.
"I really have to pee," Evie stated bouncing on her heels.
"Me too," Bella said biting her lip.
Leah finally walked into the diner. "Okay ladies let's make it quick," she said looking around. "I'm starving." They laughed as they headed to the ladies room.
There were only two bathrooms and since Evie and Bella entered the bathroom first, Leah had to wait. They quickly flushed the toilet and walked out of the stalls at the same time. Leah rolled her eyes as they laughed.
"The guys really missed you," Bella said as she dried her hands. "I forgot how funny they can be."
Leah flushed the toilet and walked out of the stall just as growl escaped her lips. The vent fell from the ceiling as a popping sound bounced off the walls. Leah hit the ground holding her neck. Evie and Bella barely yelled before a hand covered their mouths with a damp rag. All three girls looked at one another before darkness took over.
