The Beginning with Leaf Green

"Okay, Charizard, thank you so much." Bill said as he jumped off the pokémon. "Go back to Gary, okay?" with a roar of understanding, the huge fire-type flew off, leaving Bill for a moment of silence before the normally geeky workaholic turned and rushed into the Celadon Hospital.

"S-Sir?" the nurse at the front desk asked when he came barreling in.

"Bill Sonezaki. I was informed that Daisy Oak was shot today. I need to see her."

"Who?" the nurse asked. Bill nearly facepalmed.

"Bill the Pokémaniac." he said calmly. "I'm her boyfriend."

"Okay." the nurse typed in a few things on her keyboard, then her eyebrows creased together in worry. "Sir, I'm sorry to tell you this, but Daisy Oak is in surgery right now."

"S-Surgery?!" exclaimed Bill as he felt his stomach drop and bile rise in his throat. "Wh-Why?! What happened?"

"I don't know, sir, I only run the front desk." she typed in a few things on the computer. "But it does say that Samuel Oak has regained consciousness, and is able to accept visitors now."

"What room?" he demanded.

"A23, sir. Just go around the corner and up the first flight of stairs." she pointed to a doorway. "Second door on the left."

"Thank you." Bill said before snatching the visitors pass and speed walking towards Prof. Oaks room. As he came to the door, Bill stopped, listening to the conversations be passed between Prof. Oak and who he supposed was a doctor.

"Serious blood loss... transfusion... severed important nerves... must be removed... loose all feeling..." At this, Bill opened the door, staring at the black-haired doctor and a rather defeated looking Prof. Oak.

"What's going on with Daisy?" he demanded.

"And you are?" the doctor asked.

"I'm-"

"He's Daisy's boyfriend." Prof. Oak said with a nod. "Bill Sonezaki, also known as Bill the Pokémanaic."

"What's going on with Daisy?" Bill asked again. A small silence.

"Daisy Oak was shot in her bicep." the doctor said. "We have reason to believe that it was intended for her head, but she was moved suddenly so that it hit her arm, just under her shoulder. The bullet severed through important nerves and muscles, but stuck in the muscle before it could reach the bone. We had to immediately remove the bullet for to avoid infection, and this is where the troubling part comes in."

"What?" Bill asked.

"Unfortunately, the only way to remove the bullet is to use laser technology. But even if we do this in the most gentle of ways, we are sure that she will most likely loose all use of her left arm due to the muscle and nerve damage caused by the bullet." he paused, flipping through papers on his clipboard. "And as I was about to say when you came in, Mr. Sonezaki, Daisy seemed to be suffering from severe hypothermia, and the blood loss is not helping her condition. Her body seems to have undergone some sort of revitalizing state, and we aren't sure when she will wake up."

"Is there anything we can do to wake her up?" Bill asked, his voice quiet.

"I'm sorry, sir, but no. All we can really do is perform the surgery as necessary."

"Can I see her? After a few minutes with the professor?" Bill asked. The doctor shook his head.

"When the surgery is over." the doctor said. He nodded towards the two men in respect, and then walked out of the room. There was a long silence.

"You know, I would've thought that Gary would be there." Bill said with a forced chuckle. "When I walked in to take Daisy to dinner a few days ago, he looked about ready to rip my head off." he looked over at Prof. Oak, his arms bandaged and a small breathing tube under his nose, machines monitoring his heart rate. "Arceus, what happened?"

"They say it's minor hypothermia, but I say it's just frostbite. All this stuff," he plucked gently at the IVs in his arm, as if this would account for everything he was hooked up to, and continued. "They say it's necessary for 'people of my caliber'. I think they are simply implying that since I am sixty-nine years old, I am old and frail and cannot survive through a little cold. Ridiculous!" Bill grinned, although it was small and somewhat forced.

"Did you have your tea yet, Prof. Oak?" Bill asked in an amused voice.

"No." Prof. Oak responded bitterly. "Those Rocket Grunts, walk in like townsfolk taking a survey and go and uses sleep powder! Next I know I'm in the hospital. What happened, anyways?"

"I received a call from Gary. He was talking quickly, but basically, Pallet Town was taken hostage by Team Rocket, and he is using you guys, along with the family's of Dayna, Fire, and Leaf, as bait to battle the three executives."

"Three? But there are four...?" Prof. Oak widened his eyes. "They aren't going for the boss, are they? Which one?"

"Leaf went after Giovanni, and I believe that Gary is heading back to help her."

"My grandson!" exclaimed Prof. Oak as he whipped the blankets off.

"Prof. Oak! Stop!" Bill exclaimed. "Listen, Gary and Leaf are not mediocre trainers, and neither are Dayna and Fire. They can handle themselves just fine. You need to rest." Slowly, the older man leaned back in bed, obviously dejected.

"Listen. My wife died at childbirth with Samuel Jr., Bill. Junior grew strong and met Lily, where they had Daisy and then Gary. Then a couple of drunks," he spat the word out like it left a foul taste in his mouth. "Ran Junior and Lily off a cliff, and Gary just barely survived. Then Gary goes out on his journey, almost dies in Lavender Town, and I'm not going to put it past him that he somehow got himself into even more trouble. Now my granddaughter is shot, in surgery, and fell in a coma. And to find out that my grandson is going to fight a mafia boss?" he shook his head. "I'm angry and terrified at the same time, Bill."

"Do you want some time alone, Prof. Oak?" Gary asked as the elder man once again covered himself with blankets. Prof. Oak nodded, so Bill scooped up his jacket that he tossed carelessly over a chair, and made his way towards the door. As his hand wrapped around the doorknob, Prof. Oak spoke again.

"You know, no one outside the family knows much about the past, and why Daisy and Gary are under my care." Bill froze at this, and slowly turned back towards the professor.

"Oh? Then why tell me?"

"Because I believe that you'll soon be apart of the family, Bill." he responded before smirking. "Or was it someone else looking at engagement rings with Daisy?" Bill blinked before crossing his arms.

"Now I know where Gary gets his wittiness from."

o.0.o.0.o

This was her gym. Hers and hers alone. It belonged to her family for countless generations, when gyms fist came into policy, it was her great grandfathers. During the war, it was her grandfathers. It became her fathers when peace settled over the land, and now it's hers. Leaf Green would never, ever admit that it belonged to Giovanni, nor believe that he was her supposed 'godfather'. Fuck that bullshit.

Leaf had to win, simply because everything she knew and loved was on the line. On the line of beating the eight gym leader. Her friends, her family, her hometown, her gym, and most importantly, herself. If Leaf lost this, she was a Rocket Grunt. Even if she tried to back out of the deal, Giovanni wouldn't let her leave. She could see it in his eyes.

She lost this, she lost everything.

But she wasn't going to loose, and even if she did, she knew she wouldn't go down without a fight. Like her father, she was a fighter, and when something got in her craw, she would be dead set on overcoming the challenge.

So when the viscous, ruthless battle of Boss and trainer erupted, she refused to hold back, and neither did he. Not only has she taken down his Nidoking, but also his Nidoqueen, whereas he only managed to get rid of her Slowking and her Lapras. The walls around them were crumbling, and she knew that anyone who wasn't running for their life was probably dead.

"Hyper Beam." Giovanni ordered his Kangaskhan with a flick of his wrist. Leaf widened her eyes.

"Pikachu!" she exclaimed as the mouse-like pokémon got blasted with the powerful attack. Pikachu was sent flying into her, the sheer strength of the attack enough to send them both straight through the crumbling walls.

She skidded across the pavement of Viridian City, earning scratched and bruises along the way. When she finally stopped, she knew Pikachu had fainted. She returned the pokémon and got to her knees, just in time to see Giovanni walk out of the gaping hole she and her pokémon made. Next to him was his Kangaskhan and behind him was a Golem, still in the building.

"Golem," he smirked cruelly. "Explosion." Leaf widened her eyes as Golem began to glow.

"NO!" she screamed as the gym that was almost like her second home exploded in a flash of light, sending rubbling and pieces flying everywhere. She ducked down, arms over her head to protect herself as the stones and other pieces of the building rained down on her. Slowly, she looked up at what was once her gym, and held back a scream of utter hopelessness.

The huge building was reduced to nothing but ruble.

"Hm... Fainting one of my own pokémon was rather risky." Giovanni said, returning the fainted Golem, observing Leafs shellshocked face. "Plus the fact my Kangaskhan didn't survive that attack either..." he glanced down at his fainted Kagaskhan, and returned her as well. "But the reaction was well worth it."

"M-M-Mom..." she stuttered out. "My M-Mom... You killed her... all of them..."

"No, not dead." Giovanni smirked. "She and the residents of your hometown are somewhere safe. Maybe if you win, I'll tell you."

"Y-You're out of pokémon." Leaf said dryly from her kneeled position. "I won, didn't I? Where's my Mom?"

"Well," Giovanni smirked. "I wouldn't say out." his smirk grew as he brought out another pokéball. "You think this battle is over, Leaf Rosalie Green? Trust me," he tossed his final pokéball in the air, and Leaf stifled a gasp at what she saw.

It was Mewtwo, though seeing the overall 'strongest pokémon in the world' did not surprise her in the least bit, but what he looked like. The humanoid pokémon had a strange armer over his arms and legs, and a menacing helmet covering his entire head. She could not see the pokémons eyes, eyes which she only stared into once, and that one time, his eyes were filled with confusion, pain, and rage. But most of all, the manmade pokémon seemed completely and utterly lost.

Now, though, she saw nothing. Like this being was brought to nothing but a robot. It scared her, really, because she's never had anyone or anything look at her with such an empty gaze. She's seen rage, venom, revenge, and countless other negative looks from Team Rocket, but never emptiness. It was almost like she was staring at a doll. For some reason, Mewtwo was holding a large spoon, but Leaf wasn't stupid. She knew that spoon channeled Mewtwos' crazy psychic power. One blast from that and she would be done.

Slowly, she reached for a pokéball on her belt, eyes never wavering from Mewtwo's covered eyes. She pressed the button, and smirked as she felt strong claws grip her shoulders.

"Sorry, Giovanni. You may have Mewtwo under your control, but I don't plan on loosing." her smirk grew as Pidgeots wings burst from behind her, making it look like she had the wings instead of the bird behind her. She burst up in the air, her Pidgeot flying her through the air. "I'm not going to loose to the likes of you, Giovanni! We're setting Mewtwo free!"

"I'd like to see you try." Giovanni sneered in response. "Mewtwo, knock her to the ground!" Leaf looked below her and saw Mewtwo using it's telepathic powers to levitate after her.

"Keep a sharp eye, Pidgeot!" she shouted to the flying type as Mewtwo unleashed an attack, the flying type swiftly dodging it. "Use Air Slash!" Leaf felt the swift air fly past her head, but ground her teeth as Mewtwo deflected it with his oversized spoon. "Again!" from her belt, her pokégear rang. She growled, answering the call.

"Horrid timing, Gary!" she shouted into the pokégear while Pidgeot swerved to avoid another attack.

"Well, excuse me, for wishing to inform you that we're a coming to help you." Leaf could almost see him smirk. "We've got the legendary birds."

"Hold that thought! Pidgeot, Hurricane!" Leaf ducked her head down as strong gusts of wing whipped past her, swirling around Mewtwo with unimaginable force. "Continue!"

"Leaf, what's going on?!"

"Mewtwo." Giovanni ordered. "Break its wings."

"What?!" exclaimed Leaf upon hearing the order. She felt a wave of telepathic energy slam into her, and then a snapping noise. "Pidgeot!" Leaf exclaimed while her pokémon let out panicked shrieks of pain. Then she felt the air rushing past her as pokémon and human began falling, and shrieking, to the ground.

"Leaf! Leaf, what's happening?!" Gary sounded frantic now, but Leaf was falling to fast to answer, her hat flying off somewhere. Pidgeot let out a squawk of loyalty, and used Roost. Soft, mystical feathers began to form around her and her trainer, and when they hit the ground, both felt almost nothing. Key word being 'almost'.

Though the impact was softened, Leaf still got the wind knocked out of her something good while the pokégear went flying from her hand. She tried to remember what one had to do when the wind was knocked out of them... Inhaling than exhaling...? No, it was exhaling then inhaling. She must've hit her head or something...

Slowly, she pushed herself up and returned her Pidgeot, who was in no way able to fight with her wings broken. She slowly exhaled, and then breathed in, reaching for Flareon's pokéball. She was proud of this fire-type, and how she had grown from the weak and defeated Eevee in the Celadon allys to the strong fire-type she was today. True, she still had the bent ear, but neither of them saw it as a mark of shame, and Leaf will admit that she never did. No, it was simply a scar of pride. She could hear Gary shouting her name from the other end, but the call was cut off as Giovanni crushed the device under his feet.

"Mewtwo," Giovanni ordered once again, but didn't finish it. With one flick of his wrist, Mewtwo followed the action by slashing his spoon through the air. Leaf didn't even get to blink before she felt the psychic energy slam into her. Flareons pokéball fell uselessly from her hand, rolling on the ground while she went flying through the air, slamming into the nearest tree. Leaf hit the tree so hard that she was sure that the plant would fall over from the impact.

Leaf let out a groan of pain, and slid down the tree. Slowly, she tilted her head up, only to see Mewtwo holding the oversized spoon to her neck. True, it was not as deadly as, say, a knife, but Leaf knew that one twitch and the psychic power from that thing would be enough to break her neck and spinal cord. Her eyes flickered to Flareon's pokéball, twitching back and forth, the creature inside trying to get out to help her trainer.

"Such a good, loyal pokémon..." Leaf thought, her gaze flickering back to Mewtwo. She knew any movement would surely get herself killed, but also knew that, based on the little information Gary gave her, that he, Dayna, and Fire were on their way with the legendary birds. What she needed to do now, was to buy time...

Leaf let out a quick breath, and then slumped forward. She heard Mewtwo step back to let her body fall, which it did, quite painfully, she had to add.

"Fainted, eh?" she heard Giovanni mutter, stones and dirt crunching under his shoes as he came closer. Leaf tried to steady her breathing as much as she could, and forced her hands not to clench the dirt underneath her hands. Fear was not an option. "A good act, Miss Green," suddenly, he grabbed a fistful of her hair, and jerked her up. Leaf let out an exclamation of shock mixed with pain. "But not quite good enough. So what were you trying to do, hm? Escape? Hope that we were fooled? Some futile part of you wishing for mercy?" Leaf simply glared. "Or were you, perhaps, buying time for your friends?"

Leafs glare intensified. Giovanni smirked.

"Seems I hit the nail on the head, hm?" Leaf said nothing. "It's pointless for you to battle, really. Mewtwo is simply to powerful. And with that armor," Giovanni nodded towards Mewtwo. "Makes it virtually unstoppable."

"He." Leaf said. This caught Giovanni slightly off guard.

"Excuse me?"

"Mewtwo is a he." Leaf said with much more confidence. "Not an it." then she smirked her own smirk. "And you might wanna duck." A roar broke through the silence, and a Charizard swooped down, nearly taking Giovanni out with it. Distracted, he released his grip on Leafs hair, and she lunged for Flareon's pokéball. Grabbing Venusuars from her belt and scooping Flareon's into her hand, she grinned.

"Flareon, Venusuar, time to battle!" she exclaimed as she let the two out.

"Great job, Charizard!" she heard Gary exclaimed from above. Leaf turned, and grinned as Dayna, Fire, and Gary swooped down on their respective legendary bird. "Seems the tables have turned, huh, Giovanni?"

"Please. I won't loose to a couple of children." Giovanni said. "Mewtwo, eliminate them." Mewtwo sprang up again, unleashing attacks towards the three birds. Leaf stayed on the ground, ordering her final two pokémon to unleash as many attacks as possible, not so much to hurt Mewtwo, more to distract it from Gary, Dayna, and Fire so they could power up attacks.

While doing this, something flashed in front of her, so suddenly that she jumped back. Again, there was another flash, and suddenly, the exact lookalike of her Pidgeot appeared in front of her, flapping its wings confidently and without pain, like it had not just recently had both broken.

"Pidgeot...?" Leaf asked slowly. She reached for the pokéball on her belt, and looked through the transparent red top. Her Pidgeot was still inside. Then what...?

The Pidgeot in front of her flashed white, as if it was evolving. The light faded, and on the ground below her was her Flareon. She glanced up, and saw her Flareon still fighting Mewtwo. She glanced back at the lookalike, and nearly fell over when she saw it floating.

"Wha-What the hell is going on?!" Another flash of white light, and the Flareon shrunk down to a small size. The light faded, and Leaf was suddenly staring into the big, bright blue eyes of Mew. Mew stared at her for a moment, and then giggled, doing a back flip then circling around her, almost as if the action was a sign of friendship. Mew closed its eyes and giggled playfully again, not the least bit worried about the battle ensuing around them.

Suddenly, a shadow ball shot past them, nearly hitting both trainer and pokémon. Me turned around, only to come face to face with a Barrier-surrounded Mewtwo, staring intently at the two, spoon in one hand, poised and ready to attack. In the other was Flareon, hanging limply by it's fur collar.

"Flareon!" Leaf exclaimed as Mewtwo threw the fire type down to the ground, where she skidded for a few moments before lurching to a stop. Leaf scooped up the pokémon in her arms, cradling her for a few minutes before returning Flareon to her pokéball. "Venusaur?!" Leaf exclaimed, looking around frantically to see her faithful starter shaking off the ruble of the building he had crashed into.

Mewtwo reared it's spoon back, powering up another Shadow Ball. Once ready, he launched it at Mew, fury blazing in it's movements, yet Mew simply backflipped over it again, giggling as if it was a game. Again, Mew floating in circles around Leaf, who quickly made her way beside Venusaur.

"M-Mew! Stop it! This isn't a game!" Leaf exclaimed, flinching under the intense fury of Mewtwo.

"Aw, but games are so much fun!" Mew said via telepathy, sounding almost like a little boy.

"Mewtwo, why aren't you listening? Attack! Destroy them!" Giovanni said, growing impatient with every passing moment that the four teenagers were alive.

"I will not answer to the likes of you." Mewtwo sneered, via telepathy.

"What?! But I'm your master! I created you! I-"

"Be silent, ignorant human." Mewtwo snapped. He turned his spoon towards Giovanni, and unleashed a blast of psychic energy. Giovanni let out a yell of rage mixed with shock as he was sent flying back, slamming into a house. Leaf silently prayed that he wasn't dead. Mewtwo turned back to Mew, and then formed several Shadow Balls around himself, then launched them all at once towards them.

"Gah!" Leaf exclaimed, ducking her head down as the attacks exploded around her, furthering the damage on the house they destroyed. Venusaur unleashed a Solar Beam, just barely brushing the armor on his right arm. Mew looked up, and used Barrier. Then it rushed forward. Mewtwo mimicked this, and the two Barrier attacks slammed into each other, sending the two bouncing back and causing more damage. She glanced up, seeing that Gary was swooping down towards her on Articuno. "Venusuar, return!" she said, pulling out the pokéball before reaching up towards Gary. He grabbed ahold of her outstretched hand and swung her onto the legendary bird, flying up and out of the way of the brewing battle below.

"What are we gonna do?!" exclaimed Fire as he watched Mewtwo slam Mew across a flowerbed, whereas Mew retaliated by smashing Mewtwo through a house.

"At this rate, they'll tear the town apart!" Dayna shouted over the noise.

"Forget the town, they'll take out half the region if they have too!" Fire exclaimed as he watched the battle ensue. "What should we do? Any ideas?"

"How did Giovanni control Mewtwo? Maybe there's still a connection to that!" Gary said, looking over at Leaf. Leaf scanned the battle below her, watching as townsfolk fled the area.

"I don't know! Giovanni would just flick his wrist or say a command, and Mewtwo followed!" Leaf said frantically. "I think it may have something to do with the armor. See, well, call me crazy, but Mewtwo would talk to me, on multiple occasions, and overall, he didn't seem violent. Just extremely serious and confused..."

"But the journal said that Mewtwo was extremely violent! Especially towards humans!" Gary said, Articuno swerving to avoid an attack as Mew and Mewtwo's battle took to the sky.

"Violent towards the humans who created him. Was there ever a report about a humanoid pokémon attacking and destroying a town?"

"Celadon City." Gary replied smugly.

"And what did he attack? A Team Rocket Base."

"So Mewtwo has a bone to pick with Team Rocket." Dayna confirmed. "Then what does he have against Mew?"

"Maybe..." Fire spoke up. "Maybe Mewtwo is angry that he is a clone, and wants to prove he is stronger? I mean, if I was cloned... I'd want to try and prove I could beat the original... Want to prove you're better, you know?"

"Sorta like siblings?" Gary asked, remembering how he and Daisy always fought for his grandfathers attention when they were younger. Fire shrugged.

"I guess."

"I think the armor is peeking his bottled up rage." Leaf said quietly. "So we destroy the armor! Gary, let me down!"

"What?!" exclaimed Gary. "Have you gone nuts?! There's no way in bloody hell I'm letting you down there to... Do what, exactly?"

"Serve as a distraction."

"No."

"Gary-"

"No."

"But-"

"No." Gary said. "And that's fi-" Now it was Leafs turn to cut him off with a kiss. Gary, being Gary, of course returned the action, and then both broke apart due to the irritated squawk from Articuno, as if he was saying: Now is not the time for this! Gary simply smirked. "What was that for?"

"In case I never see you again." Leaf said quietly, blush forming on her cheeks, a smile, even during such drastic measures, gracing her features. Garys smirk grew, and bridged the small gap between them once again. Pulling back, his smirk disappeared, replaced with a soft smile.

"And that," he said. "Is for when I do see you again." he patted Articuno on the head, and slowly, they descended. "Here, use these on your pokémon. They should fix them back into fighting shape." he passed a small pouch to her. Leaf opened it, and smirked, seeing the Max Revives inside.

"Thanks, Shaymin Head." she said jokingly as she climbed off the legendary bird. Gary smiled confidently as Articuno took off, Leaf already giving the rare medicine to her pokémon.

"Good luck, Leafy."

Leaf really wasn't sure what to think. Was she distracting Mewtwo and helping her friends, or was she enraging Mewtwo and making their job of destroying the armor all the harder?

Regardless of whatever she was doing, Leaf knew that Mewtwo had his attention focused on her and her alone. That was all she need, all they needed. Mew... Leaf wasn't quite sure where Mew was. Was he that Pidgey flying through the sky? The Rattata hiding in the ally? They little boy running up to them?

Wait...

"Dad!" yes, it indeed was a young boy, maybe two or three years her junior...? His face was concealed, hidden by a rather frightening white mask with two upturned slits for eyes and one downturn slit for a mouth, grinning evilly like the mask of a joker. But his hair was bright red, a notable feature, if one were to ask. He gripped a pokéball from his belt, and out came a Sneasel.

"No, don't!" Leaf exclaimed, trying to warn him.

"Stay away from my Dad!" the boy yelled from behind his mask. Mewtwo turned, and to Leaf, it was like a flash of memories. When she was a young child. When she ran away from her Dad's unescapable death. When she watched her father die so gruesomely at the hands of Team Rocket. But that boy, with the strange mask and the red hair... He didn't run away, but faced his fathers, and most likely his own, death head on. Hell, he looked ready to fight Mewtwo if he had too.

As Mewtwo turned, he was powering up a Hyper Beam, one strong enough that it would surely kill whoever was the intended target. What happened next was sorta like an out-of-body experience for her. She felt her legs moving, forgetting that she had pokémon, forgetting she had the help of Gary, Dayna, and Fire. Only one thing ran through her mind: I'm not going to let anyone else see their father killed.

She heard the armor around Mewtwo crackled and fall apart, but it was already to late, the attack was loaded, being launched, right at Giovanni and the Masked Boy. Keeping her past memories in her mind, Leaf ran faster, faster, faster, arms outstretched to the side as she leapt in front of the Leader of Team Rocket and the Masked Boy.

She heard a shriek. Who was screaming?

"That's you, stupid." Ah, the cruel pragmatist. Yes, she was in fact shrieking. One would never know it, but Hyper Beams hurt. A lot. Someone else was screaming though.

"OH MY ARCEUS!"

"Leaf! LEAF! Oh my arceus, LEAF!"

Now she could place voices to the screams. The person shrieking but not saying anything was Dayna. The one who screamed 'Oh my Arcesus' was totally Fire... And the one who had screamed her name, still screaming her name, was Gary. Her Gary.

"LEAF! Say something if you can hear me! Move your hand, blink, something, anything! LEAF!" She wanted to open her eyes, wanted to see Gary's own worried one's, move to show she was fine, tell him she was okay. She really, really did, but she felt like her eyelashes each had ten pound weights attached to them, her limbs like useless noodles, and her voice would not work. All she wanted to say... was I'm still here.

"Someone call the paramedics! Get someone over here!" Dayna again.

I'm still here.

"Leaf! C'mon Leaf!" Fire now.

I'm still here.

"I-I-I am so sorry." Mewtwo? "Leaf..."

I'm here.

"Leaf..." something warm dripped onto her cheek, rolling silently down the side of her face. Tears? Gary...?

I'm here.

Someone pressed their lips to hers, as if this was some cheesy Pokéstars animation film where the prince kissed the princess and the princess woke up. But Gary-or at least, she hoped it was Gary-was no prince, and she no princess.

I'm-

Suddenly, Leaf found herself falling, not down though, but up. Up past her friends, Viridian City, the legendary birds that flew obediently beside their masters. Falling, up, up, up.

And right into her fathers arms.
