Chapter 37: Carlos' POV
Holy shit my water just broke and we're trapped underground. I thought I would at least have another 10 hours before it got this serious, but I guess after having two kids my body must've decided it's had enough of labor.
"We need to get out of here," I yelled.
Call me weird, but I could feel this baby moving down to the birth canal and let me tell you something…I CANT HAVE THIS BABY UNDERGROUND.
"This really can't be happening," Logan did that whole hysterical laugh thing. "Your pregnancy is already high risk."
"Well, you're the doctor," I said. "Deliver him."
"Sure, I can deliver him but I don't have the things I need to take care of you after the fact," Logan reminded me.
"Alright, let's just call James and tell him to have the car running because we're getting out of here," Kendall pulled out his phone.
All at the same time, we realized how stupid we were…James has been out there the whole time, all we had to do was tell him to yell so we could go towards his voice.
"Are you kidding me?" Trevor asked. "We're that stupid."
"There's a lot going on, just call James, Kendall," I pleaded.
"Yeah, James?" Kendall spoke into the phone. "Come inside and yell down the hole so we can find our way out of here."
It was only a few minutes later before we faintly heard James yelling for us. Jett led us in the direction of his voice and I couldn't help but smile when he voice sounded louder, telling me that we were closer.
Eventually we saw the light and went over to find James peeking into the hole.
"Oh, thank god you found them," James said. "I've been waiting for hours!"
Kendall and Logan climbed up first before helping Mike and I up and then the girls and every else came up.
"We've got to go," Kendall said to James. "Mike needs a doctor."
"I'm fine," Mike said.
"You're bleeding," Logan said. "We did what we could to stop the flow, but you still need to get that bullet removed."
"What's wrong with Carlos?" James glanced at me.
At the time, I was holding my stomach and clenching my teeth because I had forgotten how painful this was. I will say, I think I'm taking the pain a lot better this time, but pushing is a whole different ball game.
"Nothing much, just having a child!" I screamed.
"Are you serious?" James asked.
"No James, it's just a joke," I gave him a look.
"Let's just go," Logan took my hand and we walked towards the door.
"How far away is the hospital?" I asked. "And can somebody please call Dr. Martin?"
"About 35 minutes," Jett said.
"I can't make it that long," I cried. "This baby is not waiting!"
We reached the SUV and everyone got inside, except Logan told me to get in the back trunk area and lay down.
"What the hell," I said.
"In case we can't make it, I'm going to have to deliver him, but we need space," Logan explained.
"Are you serious?" James called from the driver's seat.
"Just drive to the hospital and in case things get ugly no one look back here," Logan said.
"Girls let this teach you to not have kids any time soon," Jett said.
"Pops…" Erika rolled her eyes.
James started driving and I buried my head into Logan's chest. It was so painful.
"Babe, lay down I want to check how dilated you are," Logan said.
I did what he said and allowed him to check.
"Oh…" Logan said.
"Oh? What do you mean oh?" I stared at him.
"Um James, drive a little faster," Logan called to the front. "This baby is coming fast."
"Am I fully dilated?" I asked.
"Yeah," Logan nodded. "It's odd. Have you been in labor before now and didn't say anything?"
"No," I shook my head.
"It's weird, I've never seen a baby come this fast," Logan said.
I screamed as another contraction came and the urge to push got really strong.
"Just try to hold off on pushing as long as you can," Logan said.
"That's not entirely up to me," I said.
"Isn't it funny to think that this is like the only time that your child is stronger than you?" Jett turned to smile at me.
"Jett…" I sighed.
"Sorry," he turned around. "It's true though."
Another contraction came and I screamed. The urge to push was so so strong. About 25 minutes later, I was in complete agony, but Logan insisted I hold on pushing as long as I could. Another contraction came and I gasped.
"Logan, this baby is coming out!" I yelled. "I can't hold anymore."
"Okay, on the next contraction, push," Logan got in position.
He was taking this surprisingly well. I on the other hand was freaking out. I thought I had prepared myself pretty well to have this baby, but no. I'm in too much pain and I haven't even pushed yet. Being experienced means nothing when it comes to having a baby.
I screamed as another contraction hit and Logan got in position.
"Alright Los, push," Logan said.
I did and ohmyfuckinggod. I was breaking a sweat just after the first push. I had forgotten just how bad this hurt. Imagine the worst pain you've ever felt and multiply that by 10 and then maybe you'll understand how I feel right now.
We finally pulled up to the hospital and from there it was a bunch of blur to me. I remember the back opening up and the nurses moving me onto a stretcher and immediately taking me upstairs.
At some point, Dr. Martin joined us and I know that Logan was by my side. We made it to a room and I kept pushing. It was almost another hour before he started to crown and another before his shoulders got through.
Logan was holding my hand and right now I was sweating more than I ever have before.
"One more push," Dr. Martin said.
"You got this babe," Logan gave me a smile.
I managed to weakly smile back. When the last contraction came I pushed as hard as I could. I screamed and I finally felt something pass. I heard, "It's a boy." But I could barely keep my eyes open.
"Carlos?" Logan said, but he sounded distant.
And then everything went black.
Logan's POV
Carlos pushed so hard, and I was beyond proud of him. I only had to do this once, but this is his third time and I couldn't be more proud of him. I noticed how tired he looked though, his eyes were drooping and I didn't like the look of that.
"It's a boy," Dr. Martin smiled.
"We have another boy," I smiled at Carlos, but he seemed to be in his own little world.
"Carlos?" I said worried.
His eyes closed and the monitors went crazy and I got pushed out of the room. I'm a doctor, I can be in there…I need to see about him.
"I need to see about him," I said as they pushed me out.
"We've got this," one of the nurses said.
"No! I need to be with him!" I yelled.
But I was pushed out of the door. I turned and Kendall, James, Jett, Trev, the girls were looking at me. At some point Mama Knight and Katie got here.
"What happened?" James voice trembled.
"He's unconscious…" was all I could say. "I couldn't even see my son. I don't know if either of them are okay."
Ethan and Evan came up with Adam and looked us.
"Dad is our brother here," Evan smiled.
They immediately noticed the atmosphere and their smiles dropped.
"Something is wrong with Carlos," I spoke up.
So we all sat silently, not really knowing what to think.
"What happened with Mike?" I asked.
"He's fine," Trevor said. "They got the bullet out and now he's sleeping…"
I only nodded in response. It was about 30 minutes or so before Dr. Martin came out. I didn't like the look on his face. We all stood and looked at him expectantly.
"Your baby boy is perfectly healthy," Dr. Martin said.
I had to smile at that.
"But Carlos…" Dr. Martin continued. "…Carlos didn't make it."
