AChapter 35

This had to be a nightmare… Or simply a Genjutsu that someone thought would be hilarious to pull on the masked man. Here he was, waiting in line with his students, between many shinobi who were presenting their passports to the guards of Kirigakure that stood just outside of the gates. Occasionally, few nasty glares were shot at the masked man. Such a warming atmosphere… Honestly the masked man would rather sit alone in his room like he did a week ago than be surrounded by this kind of people. He couldn't get the sick feeling out of his stomach. How easy would it be to simply teleport to his dimension and never come back?

"I don't want to be here anymore…" The masked man was silent and looked down to Miso whose eyes were cast down. Even the boy was feeling the negative energy people were sending to them.

"Don't show weakness," Mizuki whispered annoyed. She held her head up high, indicating her mind and soul were not affected by anyone at this moment. Chan stood next to her, his attention to the faint grey sky. He was used to people judging him thanks to his 'lame' father. The plan he had was to show everyone what they were about.

Miso didn't know how his teammates could stand near judgmental people. Couldn't they notice how the majority of the Jounin had killer intent written all over their faces towards their teacher?

"But…" the boy let out quietly. He was too nervous to even talk properly. Usually he was a loud mouth just like his father. He was just not used to this…

The masked man couldn't bare his student act out of character. He clenched his teeth, so hard his jaw began to hurt. Mostly everyone there was beginning to show signs of hostility against his Genin. He blamed himself for his students to suffer this kind of discrimination. If he wasn't their teacher, they would be having a great time just like the rest of the Genin who were taking the Chunnin Exams.

"They're very scary, huh Miso-Chan?" The masked man got down to his students level and whispered with his childish voice. He even pulled his student into a tight hug. "But don't worry, your sensei is here!" he mused. Miso was silent, a shade of pink washed over his face after noticing few Genin snickering from the scene. Miso didn't want to push his sensei away. He thought the embrace was helping his sensei take his mind off the hatred he was being given.

Mizuki and Chan avoided eye contact with them. Mizuki could still feel embarrassment from what her Sensei pulled off on her earlier…

In the end of the long shinobi line, Madara and his kids waited with boredom. Madara tilted his head to the side, counting how many squads were left until it was their turn. Well tried to anyways as the ghostly mist got in his way. He seriously had counted sheep in his head before to entertain himself and after getting near to a million he stopped. The line would move slowly, a step at a time.

"Twenty five more squads to go," Keiko groaned with impatience. Koichi was studying their competition based off their physical bodies and weapons. He took notice not many people were fond of the masked man. The boy looked at his father quietly, wondering if this place was safe for his own father…

"Aren't you too old to be a Genin?" a Genin from the land of Earth mocked Madara. The boy was in front of him, with his squad and sensei. The boy's teammates giggled, as Koichi and Keiko were almost half the size of Madara. The teacher had his arms crossed, back to them but still let out a chuckle from his student's question. It seemed the teacher didn't discipline his students.

Madara looked down at the brat who had a smirk on his face.

"Aren't you too old to old to wear diapers?" Madara pointed to what the boy was wearing. It was a white plated armor around his waist down to his groin. It kind of looked like diapers if one pointed it out. This immediately wiped his smirk off of his face, obviously offending the boy.

"They're not a diaper!" he said annoyed.

"Yes they are," Madara mused.

"Not they're not!"

"Yes they are."

"Not they're not!" The boy glared daggers at Madara before pulling out a kunai, to attack the man.

"Hold it," the boy's sensei took a firm hold of his student's shoulder. "You will have a chance at him later," the teacher wore high class leather over his thing plate armor. He won Madara in height by a couple of feet. His muscles were even in a higher scale, easily making Madara look weak in appearance. The man looked at Madara, up and down before speaking. "Take my advice… quit being a ninja," his words would have easily stung anyone else by his harsh mocking tone. Well Madara of course wasn't anyone. Instead of feeling hurt or anger, he raised an eyebrow.

"How come?" Madara asked curiously.

The man chuckled, and shook his head before turning his back to Madara. Keiko and Koichi frowned, disliking the way the man was treating their father. It was if Madara was simply a pathetic man unworthy for he's time.

The man's Genin did the same thing as their sensei after getting the message. Before turning their backs at Madara, they stuck their tongues out.

Brats… Kids these days had no discipline; they were simply spoiled to rot the future. This was the very reason Madara couldn't talk to children years ago. He would instantly give them a beating for such disrespect. Well that was before he adopted Keiko and Koichi. Now he would simply chuckle, knowing his kids would punish anyone that tried to humiliate him.

Keiko fought the urge to whisper threatening words to the brats. Koichi had simply taken note to get them back in the future. He wasn't going to think about it much for now. Madara turned to the clocked man.

"Hey, sensei," Madara elbowed him. "Aren't you supposed to defend me or something?" he asked playfully.

The clocked man said nothing for a while. "I doubt it left a wound in your soul…" a raspy calm voice replied behind the mask.

"Worst sensei of the year," Keiko commented to the man that was masquerading as their sensei.

"I think someone else had won it already," the clocked man mused, but with a different voice this time. It sounded carefree compared to the serious tone from before. Madara looked to the direction where Tobi was still clutching one of his Genin. Madara was surprised before that the masked man actually showed up for the Chunnin Exams. He wondered what was going through the masked man's mind with all the hostility that people felt towards him.

"Finally…" Chan grumbled once it was their turn to show their passports to the guards. Tobi took out from his bag the documents he had received from Naruto. The guards had their eye on the masked man, and looked over the papers to make sure there was no perjury going on. They were shocked to learn who Tobi's Genin were.

Chan Lee, his father was the best Taijutsu specialist in the world while his mother was the feudal lord's daughter from their own country. Mizuki Uchiha, her mother was the best medical ninja the world had to offer while her father was Sasuke Uchiha…One of the strongest shinobi in the world… And lastly Miso Uzumaki, the son of the Great Naruto Uzumaki…

The guards had many questions in their minds. How could the man that was responsible for the Fourth shinobi war have such Genin under his guidance…? The kids seemed fine with the masked man; there was no hint of hostility with one another. After much hesitation, Tobi and his Genin were allowed to step into the village.

"Wow…" Miso let out quietly. He stared at the village that was crammed with buildings next to one another, but that's what made it very unique. Houses were painted in different faded colors, and the mist that dwelled within the town made everything seem mysterious. Tall cylindrical buildings could be seen from afar. Chan was slightly bothered by the mist. He hoped this weather wasn't the same every day during their stay at Kirigakure. It just didn't suit with people's well-being.

"Where should we go?" Mizuki asked the masked man who was looking around. He also had that question in mind.

"That took a while," Hanabi's voice called calmly. She walked up to the group with her own Genin. Hideko gave a fake smile to Mizuki, like always, the Hyuuga girl had to start up something.

"Oh, Hanabi-Chan," Tobi's arms shot up and shook with excitement, screaming like a child. Hanabi frowned, his voice irritated her ears. "You waited for me? Aww, you do care!" he formed a heart with his hands and placed it in front of his chest. His Genin sighed, guessing their sensei wasn't going to act 'normal' back soon.

"The Hokage requested me to look after you before the Chunnin Exams start," Hanabi said simply. She would soon gain a migraine from Tobi's goofy act.

"Silly Hanabi-Chan, you should admit that you care for me," Tobi sing sang playfully. "Cause you could have easily rejected the Hokage's request and Sai-kun would have accepted it instead."

Mizuki blinked, their sensei had a point. Sai would have taken the job without any defiance to Naruto. Sai also didn't have any negative feelings towards their sensei like everyone else did, like Hanabi.

Hanabi glared at the masked man.

"You're severely mistaking…" she said coldly. "I accepted it because I want to keep an eye on you myself…" she obviously didn't trust the masked man.

"Sensei wouldn't do anything bad," Miso stepped in to defend his sensei. He disliked arguing with family relatives, but he couldn't let people keep judging their sensei.

"Too late," Katsuo coughed out amused. Tobi's Genin were silent, staring at the bug boy. Tobi's childish act disappeared before glancing up at Hanabi, eyes narrowed. Hanabi had broken the law and told her Genin everything… Hanabi kept a calm facial expression, having no guilt for going against the Hokage.

"The first of the Chunnin Exams is going to start an hour after all the participants had checked off at the gates," Hanabi looked down to her nephew. "Good luck," she said before walking off with her Genin, but not too far off. She was still going to have her attention to the masked ninja. Mizuki was pissed off at Hideko more. The Hyuuga girl simply turned away amused. How could that girl know of Tobi's past instead of her? Mizuki felt like Hideko knew her sensei more… Chan was also unhappy.

"Oh man…" Miso pressed his hand against his chest, feeling his heart beat unsteadily. He blinked as he felt something on his head. He looked up. The masked man had placed his hand on top of the boy's head.

"You're going to back out now?" Tobi asked with his dark calm voice. "Cause there's still time for you to quit and we can go back home."

Miso frowned at the thought of going back home like a quitter… His lips pressed into a thin line before he shot his head up and screamed as loud as he could. His teammates cringed and were shocked to hear Miso scream out of the blue. The masked man stared at his Genin, dead silent. Everyone around them was alarmed.

"My name is Miso Uzumaki!" Miso screamed before he grinned at everyone. "I'm going to beat everyone here and I'm going to become the greatest Kage there is!"

The masked man felt his heart stop from working for a second. Mizuki face palmed, shaking her head while Chan wanted to smack the boy at this moment. All they got from the boy's outburst was people narrowing their eyes at their direction. No one liked a cocky being.

Hideko had a sly smile appear on her face, and looked to her teammates nodded with some kind of agreement.

"I was going to do that…" Keiko grumbled. Madara chuckled, Miso was almost like Naruto.

"Since when do you want to become a Kage?" Koichi asked confused to his sister. Keiko shook her head.

"I don't, I just wanted to scream and gets people attention."

"Why…?"

"Cause with that, we get people's attention and have more fights later," Keiko sighed. She wouldn't do her own outburst now. She wasn't a copycat.

"What did I say about acting mature so people wouldn't judge our sensei?" Chan said annoyed while he shook the poor blonde boy by his collar.

"But I had to do it," Miso whined as his head wobbled back and forth. "If I hadn't, then I would still be afraid."

"Well now you made sensei feel worse," Chan groaned, praying the heavens to strike Miso with a better mind.

"Who says I feel worse?" The masked man mused with his high pitch voice. His fist pounded on his raised chest. "I feel so happy my students are ready to take anyone on."

"Yeah right…" Mizuki said under her breath as her eyes glared at Hideko.

They waited for a while, for the Chunnin Exams to start up. Participants who didn't belong to Kirigakure weren't allowed to wonder around the village. They had to stand by the entrance.

The masked man glanced over where Madara leaned against a tree, arms crossed on his chest. His dark eyes met Tobi's own. Tobi couldn't believe Madara was actually personating a Genin… The masked man wanted to have a chance and learn why his old partner was trying the Chunnin Exams… It had to be a joke. There was another question in his mind. He wanted to know who was under that black cloak and yin yang mask… He had a guess, but he wasn't sure to get his hopes up.

The masked man really wanted to talk to Madara, to get his answers, but he knew people were watching him… The Mizukage certainly had few ANBU watching his every move…

"I would like to say how my heart is filled with great joy to have Kirigakure host the Chunnin Exams at this time," Everyone looked up to a tower that was built near the gates. The Fifth Mizukage stood at the top of the tower, waving a hand to everyone with a kind smile. "And to make things better, this exam is going to have the most participants in history!
People clapped at the news. Everyone was excited. Miso was surprised. He wondered how many shinobi took the exams when his father participated.

The masked man didn't like this. He had to watch his own back more.

"Now, I'm going to let the first instructor for the Chunnin Exams to introduce himself," The Mizukage stepped aside and signaled with a nod for whoever was hiding at the back.

"My name is Ibiki Morino," a tall man with scars on his face stated calmly, with a hint of strictness. "And like the Mizukage said, I am your first instructor…and probably I will be the most hated one," he chuckled.

The masked man's Genin were silent, frowning at the Jounin. They still remembered how he tried to interrogate them for the one responsible for the death of the appointed ninja that tried to kill their sensei…

"Now, all the Genin have to meet at the basement of the Drop building," he pointed to the direction of a rectangular building that had four huge fire lanterns on top of its sides. "And from there we will start the first stage of the Chunnin Exams." He placed his arms behind his back, eyeing everyone. "I will see you there in ten minutes," he said before departing.

"I wish all the Genin the best of luck," The Mizukage said with great kindness.

"Wish me luck!" Madara mused to his 'sensei' as he began to depart with his kids.

"As if you need it…" Koichi mumbled. He thought it was unfair for his father joining them in these exams.

"Oh stop it, Koichi," Keiko actually wanted their father with them. She thought it was entertaining.

Miso looked at his sensei, smiling. "Well, I guess this is it?"

Tobi was quiet. He didn't want his students to leave him with all these jounin… Well he could just go to his other dimension and wait there…

"Don't worry sensei, we'll take care of Miso," Mizuki tried to brighten the mood for her sensei. They were going to see him after the first stage was finished anyways.

"Can't make promises," Chan said teasingly. Genin begun leaving their sensei's sides, heading out to the building they were supposed to go to. The masked man forced himself to stay calm while his Genin watched him. They were waiting for him to wish them luck or at least something…

"What are you guys waiting for?" the masked man asked with his serious tone. Miso sighed, not blaming his sensei for being uptight about this… Mizuki and Chan were getting used to their sensei's attitude. They knew he cared, he just didn't know how to show it well under pressure.

"Come on guys," Mizuki shoved Chan and Miso forward a few feet. "Let's show everyone what we're about," she said with a smile. Finally she would bring the Uchiha clan pride, and also with their success, they could get their sensei respect from everyone else. "We'll beat everyone."

"Like Guy sensei says," Miso punched the air with his fist. "This is what youth is all about!"

Chan frowned at his teammate. "No…just…no…"

The masked man's chest clenched tighter for every step his Genin took away from him. Now he was alone…but it wasn't like the weeks he had to endure in his room… Or the years he lived alone in his younger days.

"The Jounin will have to gather at the center of Kirigakure, inside the Mizu Building," she announced. "The guards will lead you guys there while you guys wait for your Genin."

This couldn't get worse for the masked ninja… Now he had to be in the same spot as the rest of the Jounin…

"We should stay together," Tobi's eyes shifted to the left after Sai said with a smile, his eyes closed like he would do many times.

"Do we have any other choice?" Hanabi walked up to them. She wasn't going to enjoy her time with them at all. Sai was still 'weird' for her standards of what a normal person would act.

"Heheh, this is going to be fun," Konohamaru laughed with a lot of energy. He placed his arms around Hanabi and Sai as if they were best buds. Hanabi frowned and quickly jabbed her fingers to a certain pressure point on Konohamaru's side. The poor brown hair man gasped and clutched his side in pain. "Vicious much?!"

"That's just how she shows her love to people," Tobi mused once again going back to his high pitched persona. Konohamaru blinked at the strange attitude.

Hanabi had the urge to bash the masked man for his annoying act. She thought it was simply humiliating.

"Let's just go, now," she said irritated and began to follow the Jounin that were guided by the guards.

"What's with the desks?" Chan asked as all the Genin were led to a huge room with many rows of long tables and seats. It looked like a class, but just ten times bigger. They were each given a slip of paper with a number printed on it. Miso blinked as he had number nineteen. He peeked to his teammates that had numbers that were no near to his…

"Welcome to the first stage of the Chunnin Exams," Ibiki was in front of the huge room. All the Genin finally were inside. "The first stage will be a written test."

Miso's eyes slowly widened at the instructors words. "Wait...what…?" He didn't know there was such thing for these exams.

Mizuki was shocked. Damn it… how could they have a written test? What was it about? How could this happen? Chan groaned, hating written exams. He was never good at those things. Everyone around them were talking about this, nervous as they didn't know what the exam was going to be about.

"Ninja don't take written exams!" Everyone fell silent to hear someone shout out. Ibiki frowned and narrowed his eyes to locate whoever said such words. Genin backed away from the troublemaker, who was no other than Madara.

"Would you care to repeat that?" Ibiki challenged in a serious tone.

"Sure," Madara mused. "Ninja don't take written exams…like seriously," he stepped forward. "Am I really going to defeat the enemy by impressing them how I can answer a few questions?"

"If you have a problem with my trial, you are free to go," Ibiki stated simply, as he wasn't going to take any smart mouths in his stage.

Miso bit his lower lip; there was no other way around this… They had to take the test…

Madara thought about it, rubbing his chin.

"You're taking it," Keiko said annoyed to her father. Madara didn't want to waste his time in a written exam, but he was going to do it for his kids.

"Alright then," Madara shrugged.

"Well then…if no one else has anything to say…go to your assigned spots then," Ibiki instructed. Miso sighed, dragging his feet to the first column of tables.

"Stay calm guys," Mizuki told her teammates. She was always taught by her mother how it was always good to have a calm mind while taking a test.

"Whatever…" Chan grumbled. Ibiki was right; he was going to hate the man for giving them this stupid test.

Ibiki had a calm smile, amused to see how most of the Genin weren't so happy for this stage. Chunnin came into the room and sat down on foldable chairs that were against the walls around the room. Miso blinked, curious why there were other ninja around while he took his seat.

"Hey Miso," someone called with a cheerful tone. Miso was confused from this voice, not immediately putting a face in his mind. He looked behind to see a red hair girl, smiling at him. Miso was surprised to see her.

"Sunako!" Miso grinned, relieved to have someone he knew near him. "I didn't know you were taking the Chunnin Exams too."

The girl stuck her tongue out playfully. "Dad wasn't going to let me again…but I was finally able to change his mind," she giggled.

"Awesome! And you changed a lot from the last time I saw you."

Sunako blushed at this, avoiding eye contact with the boy. "Really?" she asked shyly at this moment.

"Yep," Miso kept his grin.

"Well…what's different…?"

"Well you look more like a boy," Miso mused as he pointed at Sunako's short hair. "You cut your hair, now you totally look like your dad."

Sunako's blush disappeared and she frowned before throwing her pencil at Miso. Miso was quick to duck down, avoiding the hit.

"You're so dumb!" Sunako looked away annoyed, arms crossed on her chest as she didn't want to talk to Miso at the moment. The blonde kid was lost.

"Wait…what did I say?" he asked, not liking how his friend was unhappy with him.

Mizuki was sitting a couple of rows behind Miso. She tried not to laugh at the scene her teammate just displayed. Oh boys…

"Look who's sitting next to me."

Mizuki was silent, begging to God her mind was just playing tricks on her… She glared to her right. Hideko sat down next to Mizuki, with a mocking smile.

"What's with the nasty look?" Hideko asked innocently.

"It means she doesn't like you," someone pointed out simply. Mizuki looked to her left and was surprised to see Keiko was there. The teenager narrowed her eyes to Hideko. For some reason she didn't get a good vibe from the Hyuuga girl. "And I can't blame her. You look like a bitch."

Hideko glared at the teenager. A smirk slipped out of Mizuki's face. Now she was happy Keiko was with her.

"This is going to be annoying…" Chan sighed under his breath, as he was sitting in the middle of the room. He was so distant from everyone he knew…

"Yo," someone said near him. Chan looked to his right and was silent to see Madara was next to him…

"You got to be kidding me…" Chan let his head drop on the desk.

Koichi was on the back of the room, watching everything that was going on. He wished he was next to his father… Shizuka was next to him, calmly waiting for to receive the papers that Ibiki gave to two Chunnin to pass around.

Hiruka gulped, he was surrounded by frightening ninja. He slowly shrunk on his seat. Daiki was on one of the ends of the rows, twirling his rose he brought with him.

"Fag," someone near him coughed out. Daiki didn't bother to know who had offended him.

Hiruzen plopped a new lollipop into his mouth, and placed his feet on the desk, yawning.

Takeshi had his wolf near him The boy blocked his nose annoyed as a fat teenager next to him stunk like trash.

Katsuo sat at the very front, tapping his fingers on the table, a messed up smile formed on his face. The Genin near him slightly scooted away from him, thinking the boy was insane…

The Chunnin distributed the test around.

"Now…let me begin with the rules to this test…" Ibiki said out loud so everyone in the room could hear him.

"Go to hell, you monster!" Tobi was pinned down on the ground harshly by a Jounin. The man raised his kunai up to kill the masked man.

"Get off of him," Hanabi hissed coldly as she lunged at the man, gentle fisting him on his chest to shove him away. The man gasped in pain and fell on his back. He clutched his chest as he coughed.

Tobi sat up fast and glared at all the Jounin that were surrounding him and the few Konoha ninja that stood with him. The masked man had been attacked the second he walked into Mizu building. He had a hand on his side; a wound was inflicted on him. Blood trailed down steadily. Sai took out his white scroll and brush, ready to protect the masked man. Konohamaru took a step in front of Tobi, his eyes giving a serous vibe. Hanabi had her Byakugan activated and was in a defense stance.

Tobi forced himself on his feet. He couldn't believe he didn't phase through the attack. He could have easily done it. Well he was going to do it, but for some reason it didn't work. His mind pained him when he tried to activate his sharingan… As if the seal on him restricted him from using it.

"Is this a sick joke?!" a shinobi from the land of sand snapped.

"We should kill him right now for what he has done!" someone yelled out from the crowd. Konohamaru understood their rage. Tobi's actions caused many people to die directly and indirectly. Thanks to the man, his uncle was killed by an Akatsuki member. He had some hatred towards the masked man, but… he made a promise to Naruto before he left Konoha with his Genin. And like Naruto, he wasn't the ninja to go back on his word…

UPDATE: okay so i put up a list in my profile of the jounin and Genin who are participating in the story. i haven't finished it but i have the main characters there o.o. also i want to ring up about the tobi/obito issue in this story. I'm not going to make tobi obito in this story cause well.. x.x. i do love obito/tobi, but this story wasn't intended to be for obito. The antogonist and the future issues are intended for the tobi i thought was well... who i thought it was XD.

I'm just waiting for obito's flashback to end in order for me to redo the new one.

I am still looking for good editors for the new revision. i have few people who want to be it, but im debating still. My beta reader also offered to find time to edit my grammar, but i dont want to torture him so much x.x.
