Chapter 37

3rd January 2015

"There it is!" said Lenalee from front seat suddenly. Lavi and Allen peered out the windscreen and saw the skyscrapers of a city in the distance. They had almost arrived in Sydney.

"Fucking A!" shouted Lavi, deafening everyone and earning himself an elbow to the chest from Kanda. Allen sighed and said, "Thank the lord. I'm not sure I could have lasted much longer in this stupid van."

"That makes two of us moyashi," muttered Kanda. Allen glared at him but otherwise didn't respond to the comment.

It wasn't long before they were in the city proper. The natural scenery was beautiful with the bay sparkling in amongst the buildings, the famous Harbour Bridge stretching across it. It was humid but not incredibly hot like it currently was in Melbourne. Allen prayed briefly that Cross would remember to keep Timcampy's water bowl topped up.

"Just think," Lenalee said excitedly, "We're going to be seeing Thirds They drove through the city until they found the small motel they were staying in. This one was much better kept than the last but there was a problem. There were enough beds this time, but one of them was a double. This caused a few issues for sleeping arrangements.

"No," Kanda said immediately, "No way. You guys figure something out."

"I volunteer as tribute for the double bed," said Lavi solemnly, placing a hand on Allen's shoulder, "And I volunteer Allen as the other tribute."

"How about no?" said Allen, smiling slightly and shaking the American's hand off. Lavi frowned and asked, "Why not?"

"Because you will do unspeakable things to me whilst I sleep."

Lavi let out a mournful sigh and said, "Very well. You wound me Allen, but I will happily share the bed with Lenalee if need be…"

"You only have one eye left rabbit," Kanda growled threateningly. Lavi shuffled a bit further away from the dark haired youth and muttered, "Okay, maybe not."

"I'll share the bed with Allen," said Lenalee with a shrug. Allen nodded in agreement and waited for protest from Kanda but none came. He glanced at the Japanese teen and asked, "What? Not going to threaten to toss me off a bridge or something?"

"You're about as sexually threatening as that bookshelf," said Kanda, pointing towards said bookshelf, "I'm not worried."

"Excuse me-" Allen started, slightly outraged but the other two stopped them before another argument could start.

Later that night the three of them made their way to the music hall were the concert was. There were Thirds posters strung up everywhere and the place was already packed. They got in and pushed their way through the crowds to try to find good places to stand and watch the band. Allen, Lenalee and Lavi chatted animatedly amongst themselves and Kanda being even more sullen and quiet than usual.

When the lights came on and the band appeared the crowd went crazy, Allen, Lenalee and Lavi included. They spent the next hour and forty minutes completely enraptured by the siblings Madarao, the blue haired lead and Towaku's, the bass player, voices and their guitar and bass playing. The keyboardist, Tousakha, was great too, though Allen had to admit that the constant smirk on his face made him look like he thought he was better than everyone else in the room.

It wasn't until the very end of the concert that Allen suddenly noticed that Kanda's face had gone completely blank and all he was doing was staring at the band, not giving away any expression. When Allen looked at him, he saw that the dark haired youth's body language just screamed uncomfortableness. The British boy frowned in confusion but gave it no more thought. Kanda was probably just annoyed by the crowded situation.

The band played their final song and moved off stage and the crowd began to file out of the hall. Some were very drunk and were stumbling about, making fools of themselves, but other than that everything seemed relatively pleasant.

"That was so awesome!" squeaked Lenalee as they moved through the lobby of the hall. Lavi grinned and said in reply, "Fucking awesome! I am so pumped right now! I am going to take a flying leap down the stairs!"

"What?" said Allen whilst Kanda snapped, "Great. Kill yourself. Maybe that will cheer me up."

Lavi looked like he was about to shoot back a retort when there was a sudden commotion behind them. The four of them turned and saw, to the three fans' delights, that the members of the band had come out to meet the audience. They had already drawn a large gathering around them but Lavi still said, "Come on, we have to go and meet them!"

"No fucking way," growled Kanda, "I am not going anywhere near that crowd."

"Oh come on Kanda," said Lenalee, "It'll be fine."

"Seriously, no mean no," he snapped, "You can go if you want. But I am waiting-"

"YUU?!" a voice shouted suddenly. Kanda froze and the other three turned to see, with shock and amazement, that Madarao was the one who had shouted. The other members of Thirds were also staring with wide eyes, their gazes fixed on Kanda.

"Yuu Kanda?" said Madarao, taking a step towards them.

"Fuck," muttered Kanda before bolting out the doors. The band shouted out a few things in Japanese whilst the other three shouted, "Kanda! Wait!" and tore after him. As they were running Lavi shouted, "What the shitake mushrooms was that about?!"

Allen and Lenalee were unable to answer him.

Kanda had returned to the motel and refused to talk to them all night after they returned. He also said very little on their journey back to Melbourne. He didn't even bother to insult Allen and Lavi at every opportunity, even when they tried to irritate him. This definitely convinced them that whatever had gone on between him and Thirds in the past had been serious. The only one who could get him to speak even a couple of words was Lenalee, and even then it was only about mundane topics.

When they got to Allen's street they had to drop him off across the road due to convenience for the rest of them. He thanked them for a great time and they wished him good luck with his godfather and drove away. He was a bit glad that he could get out of the uncomfortable tension in the car. He made his way over to the traffic lights and began to plan what he would do if Cross A) had changed the locks on his apartment or B) tried to kill him. He was pretty sure Cross wouldn't want to go to jail and so probably wouldn't do anything too hideous. But, he was a crafty man. Hiding the body of a sixteen year old probably wouldn't be too much of a big deal.

He sighed. The lights on this road always took forever to change and that usually annoyed him, but right now he didn't mind so much. This wasn't a reunion he was looking forward to…

"Allen?" asked a voice to his right. Allen felt his stomach drop out as he looked up into the yellow eyes of Tyki Mikk.
