Sorry for the long wait. The big test are finally over tho, so hopefully that means I'll have more time to write. I honesty feel like this chapter is kind of crappy. That's part of the reason that this took so long. Hopefully the next chapter will be a lot better :) I wanted to say thanks for everyone that reviewed on the Author's Note, giving me their opinions. That was EXTREMLEY helpful. I went with majority rule btw. Anyways, on to the chapter.

Tobias zip lines to get off of the Hancock building. Amy and Evelyn created a serum that when your injected, they can control everything you do and say. Evelyn injects Tobias but since he's part Divergent it doesn't work but he plays along acting like it did. Cara, Zeke, Shauna and Christina were injected. Tris, Caleb and Matthew go looking for them. They end up in The Fringe, where Evelyn used to live. Tris, Caleb and Matthew meet a guy named James who wants to help them. They also meet a guy named Adam who helps them. They find out that she's in a coma and she has a 45% chance of never waking up. She was taken to the Erudite because they have better equipment. Tris wakes up from her Coma a day later. Her 'Doctor' basically began to rape Tris but Tobias came to the rescue. Tris was released from the hospital and everyone played candor or Dauntless. Tris and Tobias become the initiate instructors for the transfers. They think that Liz (Abnegation transfer) and Mason (Erudite transfer) are Divergent. Nick (transfer) is like another version of Peter. Tris and Tobias go on a date :) Evelyn and Amy are alive and Evelyn asked for Tobias's forgiveness but he refused. She let on that Amy might be planning on killing Tris. Liz and Hunter have to fight each other. Mason is beaten unconscious. Nicole (transfer) flirts with Tobias and Tris becomes jealous. Zeke throws a small party and the gang play Candor or Dauntless. Tobias wakes up the next morning to find Tris gone and note saying that he'll never see her again and that this was all his fault. Tris is basically being tortured by Amy with tests that Amy is making Tris go through. Tobias and the gang search for Tris in the Amity and The Fringe but she's not there. Evelyn left Tobias a note saying that they're going to kill Tris. Adam tells the gang places that Evelyn and Amy might be hiding and one of them is Candor. Adam and Evelyn were lovers at one time but Evelyn left him for the Factionless. Tobias and the gang find Tris at the Candor building. James used the gang to get to Tris and was working for Evelyn and Amy the whole time. That's also how Amy and Evelyn are still alive. the gang find and help Tris escape from Candor. James and Amy are both dead and Tobias was shot and possibly died. Evelyn is probably plotting her revenge against Tris. Tobias is unconscious so basically in a coma and there's a 50 percent chance that he might die or may never wake up. Tobias wakes up about a week later :)
Chapter 34:
Tobias's POV:
I slowly open my eyes to see Tris and our friends conversing with each other in the corner of the room in hushed tones. I still feel the drowsiness of the medicine they gave me as I give the room a glance. Nothing's changed since the last time I was awake. How long was I out?
Noticing my movement, Tris silently walks over to me, arms crossed against her chest. "How're you feeling?" she asks in a tone so soothing, it's music to my ears in my still foggy mind.
"Better, I guess" I reply drowsily. "Tired."
She gives a small chuckle and runs her fingers through my hair. "Well, the pain killers that they gave you were pretty strong," she says smiling.
I smile back slightly and enjoy the feeling of her fingers in my hair. My eyes close and I'm met with blackness. Before it totally consumes me, I hear her murmur something.
"I love you."
Tris's POV:
I watch as his eyes slowly flutter close as the drugs kick in.
"I love you," I say, still running my fingers through his hair.
After I make sure that he's asleep, I walk back over to the group in the corner of the room. Everyone's tones are hushed in the already quiet room.
"How is he?" Zeke asks as I rejoin the group.
"Tired. They gave him some strong drugs," I respond, my arms crossed over my chest again. It's oddly cold in here. "He just fell back asleep."
"At least he's alive," Zeke says, nodding his head. His concern for Tobias is weird. A good kind of weird. The normal goofy Zeke is gone and is now replaced with seriousness.
Before anything else can be said, Kelly walks in, her heels making the usual click-clack sound as she walks across the tile floor.
I disband from the group and meet her halfway.
"Is everything okay?" I ask, eyeing the clipboard in her hand. Does she carry that everywhere she goes?
"Sort of," she replies while rifling through the papers attached to her clipboard. "Was Tobias Divergent?"
"Partially," I answer. What's going on?
"That's what I thought. Tris...there's something I need to tell you," she says, sitting down in one of the chairs.
I wearily sit down next to her, worry and anxiety building in my mind until I feel like I'm about to explode.
"As you know, Tobias lost a lot of blood during surgery but we gave him some from our supply. We keep one in case of situations like this," she explains and then pauses for a moment before saying, "The blood we gave him came from someone who was Divergent...The tests have showed that Tobias isn't partially Divergent anymore...He is Divergent."
She stops taking, letting the information sink in. He's divergent.
"Is...is he special like...me?" I manage to say through the shock.
"I don't know. He would have to take the aptitude test again to see what factions he gets and then go from there," she says. "It's highly unlikely but it's not impossible. Being Divergent like you, is extremely rare as you probably already know."
"Yeah," I whisper, not sure what else to say. The shock has taken over my whole body at this point.
"Hopefully he'll be awake the next time I stop by," she says before walking away and out of the room.
I look over at my friends that are still huddled together in the corner of the room but instead of talking with each other, their gazes are fixed on me. Their eyes questioning. I just shake my head in response, hoping they'll get the hint.
"Tris. Tell us. We have the right to know," Zeke growls.
I just shake my head again, the shock completely overwhelming me.
"Tris," he says, his voice dangerously low.
"I'm sorry but I can't. At least not right now. He needs to know first," I say, my voice apologetic.
"Dammit Tris. Just tell us," Zeke says, getting angrier.
"I'm sorry but this is personal for him," I say trying to get through to him. He needs to understand.
"Zeke, it's okay. Just take deep breaths," Shauna says soothingly.
He soon slumps into a chair, a look of defeat written across his face. "Please Tris. At least tell me this. Is he going to be okay?"
I let a moment of silence go by before answering. I'm struggling myself trying to find the right answer. "I can't promise you that. Nobody can. At least without lying. I will say that he should be fine. This is Four we're talking about. He's strong. He's smart. He's practically a natural Dauntless. He'll try his hardest to fight his way through this obstacle. We just need to be here for him," I say, shocked by the words that just came out of my mouth.
"You could've just lied and told me that he would be okay," Zeke says, acting like his normal goofy self.
I shrug my shoulders and smile. I look behind me at Tobias and see that he's already awake. My smile disappears when I remember what I have to tell him. Everyone is engrossed in their own conversations again so I slip away and walk over to him.
"You're awake. Feeling any better?" I ask once I reach his side.
"A little,' he says yawning. "What's wrong?" he asks, concern replacing his earlier smile.
"Tobias, there's something I need to tell you," I say, hesitating. Do I really want to tell him?
He just stares at me, waiting for me to continue.
"During your...surgery, you received blood. Blood from a Divergent. The Erudite ran a few tests and it showed that you're no longer partially Divergent," I say, taking a deep breath. His face falls at the mention of him no longer being Divergent. Just wait, I think to myself. "You're no longer partially Divergent but you are fully Divergent," I say, waiting for his reaction.
Confusion covers his face like a mask and he struggles for words.
"So...am I like you?" He finally asks.
"I don't know. They have to run more tests to find out. Kelly actually had wanted to talk to you," I say. "I didn't know if you wanted the others to know, so I didn't say anything."
"Thank you," he says smiling. "I don't want them to know...at least not yet."
I nod my head, silently agreeing. "I really hope that this doesn't change anything between us," I say, worry lacing my voice.
"Of course it won't. I will love you just as much no matter what," he says, squeezing my hand.
I squeeze back and smile. "I love you too."
Just then, Kelly walks in and smiles when she sees Tobias.
"I hope that Tris told you the news," she says, looking between us.
"Just a few minutes ago actually," Tobias says.
"Good. When you're feeling better, I would like to run a few more tests to help us determine your Divergence," she says, staring at the clipboard.
"I'm feeling much better. Can I try now?" He asks.
"Don't you think it's too soon?" I ask, surprise replacing my earlier shock.
"If you would like to right now, I suppose we could make something happen," she says, tapping her fingers on her chin. "Let me make some arrangements and I'll come back."
She walks out of the room, leaving us in silence.
"I don't think that this is a good idea," I say, looking at him worriedly.
"I already feel better and it's kind of killing me not knowing," he says, shrugging his shoulders.
"I don't want to lose you again," I say, my voice dropping down to a whisper.
"You won't. I'm not leaving you," he says firmly. "We're in this together."
I give him a forced smile and turn around to see Kelly walking back through the door.
"Everything's all set. Are you ready?"
Tobias nods his head in response and she begins detaching the bed from the wall.
"I'm sorry but no one is allowed in the room during the testing. You're going to have to stay here," she says, her tone almost snarky.
I look at Tobias and he nods his head. "It's okay. I'll be fine," he reassures me.
I don't quite believe him but I comply and stay with our friends while he's wheeled out of the room I really just hope that he's okay. I've already lost him too many times.
Tobias's POV:
As Kelly wheels me out of the room, I catch a glimpse of Tris. I can tell that she's worried but she doesn't need to be. I'll be fine. It's just a few simple tests. The only thing I need to worry about right now is my divergence. Am I in danger? Am I like Tris? Does this change anything? Everything?
"Here we are," Kelly says as she wheels me into another room. The room is bare except for the lone chair sitting right in the middle of the floor. The walls are painted a sky blue and the floor is made out of tile. She stops the bed next to the chair and helps me over to it. Considering I still don't have all of my strength back, walking is a challenge.
"This is going to be just like the aptitude test you took before your choosing ceremony," she says, handing me a shot glass full of a weird looking liquid.
I down the serum and hand her the shot glass, leaning my head against the chair. I blink and the scenery suddenly changes right before my eyes, well almost. Everything looks the same except Kelly is gone. The walls are still the same sky blue, the chair is still the same chair.
All of the sudden, two pillars appear out of nowhere. One holding a dagger and the other holding a piece of bread. I stand up and walk over to the pillars. I can walk! There's something weird but I can't put my finger on it. I instantly grab the dagger out of habit.
I turn the knife over and over in my hands inspecting it. A growling sound fills the room and I look behind me. A shaggy dog bares its teeth as it growls at me. The dog slowly creeps towards me, a menacing look in it's eye. I can't hurt it. It's inhuman. It's not necessary. Make yourself look scarier. It won't attack, a voice in the back of my head tells me.
I make myself look bigger and I position the knife so it looks like I'm about to stab someone. I put on my Four mask as I try to make myself look scarier. I put all of my emotions away and focus on the task at hand. A few minutes go by with no results. I'm about to give up when the dog suddenly puts its tail between its legs and lowers its head. I smile triumphantly at the small victory.
The dog suddenly disappears and is replaced with Marcus. He's not really here, I keep telling myself but yet it feels so real. Panic is starting to overtake my body. He's looking at something behind me and I turn around. A younger version of me stands before us, a scared look covering his face.
"This is for your own good, Tobias. It's only going to help you later in your life," Marcus says, a belt materializing in his hands.
Yeah right. All that did was give me scars.
"No," the mini me says in horror.
Marcus slowly walks closer and closer to him and all I'm doing is watching. Something snaps me out of my daze and I tackle Marcus from behind. We both fall to the ground, a look of surprise written all over his face.
"You're a coward! A filthy bastard!" I yell at him as I punch him in the face, the knife forgotten. Blood pours from his nose and I have to physically stop myself from punching him again otherwise I would just keep going, letting out all the anger and pain from all of the years he beat me. Stop! Don't be the coward. Don't be the monster!
The room changes and I'm on a bus. A man with scars and such all over his face is sitting next to me, a newspaper in his hands. An elderly woman gets on and looks around for an empty seat. A frown appears on her face when she doesn't find any.
Out of instinct, I stand up, a polite smile forcing its way onto my face. She smiles gratefully at me as she takes my spot next to the scarred man. This is standard Abnegation practice. Selflessness.
"Do you know this man?" The man suddenly asks me, holding the paper in front of my face.
I study the picture on the newspaper and I get this odd feeling of recognition. I rack my brain for any memories and that's when I remember. The man in the picture is that man I saw the day of my first aptitude test. He was the homeless man.
"He did this to me!" He practically shouts as he motions to his face. "He is a bad man. He needs to be put away."
I just stare at the man in response. I'm not exactly sure what to say. Should I tell him? Is he lying?
"Do. You. Know. Him?" he asks again, rage filing his face. There's something wrong. He's looking for revenge, the voice in my head tells me.
"Sorry, but I've never seen this man," I lie.
"Liar! You know him!" he shouts. Surprisingly nobody is even paying attention. This isn't real.
"I really don't know him," I say, frustration filling my voice.
Everything fades into black, the bus and the people disappearing. My eyes shoot open and I gasp for breath, my heart beating fast. I sit up from my earlier position in the chair. It was just a test, Tobias. Deep breathes. It was just a test.
"Well, this test confirmed that you are in fact Divergent," Kelly says, looking at her clipboard. What's so special?
"What….What were my results?" I ask, nervousness creeping its way up my throat.
"Dauntless…...And Abnegation," she says, pausing again to look at her clipboard. "And also Erudite.," she says, rubbing her temples.
"Oh," is all I manage to say. I'm Divergent. I still can't wrap my head around that idea. I'm Divergent just like Tris.
Without another word, Kelly wheels me back to the hospital room I was in earlier today. She leaves after everything is situated and Tris is the only one to approach me.
"How'd it go?" she asks.
"Well…..I'm Divergent," I say at a loss for words.
'What were your results?' she asks, raising her eyebrows. She knows something's wrong. I can tell by the look on her face.
"Dauntless," I begin. "Also Abnegation and Erudite," I finish, waiting for her reaction.
"So….Just like me?" she asks, showing no emotion.
"Yes," I say.
"Does this change anything between us?" she finally asks after a few moments of silence.
"Tris. Tris look at me,' I say with a sigh. She slowly tilts her head, looking at me. "I still love you. I still love you as much as i did before all of this happened and I always will."
She nods her head but a look of doubt still hides in her eyes. To give her even more reassurance, I lean over and capture her lips in a kiss. Once I pull back, her eyes shine brighter than they did a few moments ago.
"You need your rest. Go to sleep," she whispers, stroking my hair before walking away.
I lay back in the hospital bed and stare at the ceiling, letting my thoughts and emotions roam about. Are we safe? Were we really ever safe? Does this change anything? What about Evelyn? Amy? People like them? Will we ever get to live normal lives? What is normal? What's going to happen to us? The last question is what worries me the most. Will we die? Will our loved ones die? War? Divergents can't be controlled.
