A/N: I do not own Warrior, the Erins do. I do not own the story idea, Spottedeyes does. Okay, what did I do to deserve such amazing reviewers? Thanks everyone for your words! My llama is doing great! She's defiantly better. But my baby goat passed away on Tuseday. We believe she was suffocated. On Monday though one of our goats had a baby. Sorry for not updating last week. I was very busy, but keep watch tomorrow, I have a surprise in store. :)
The warm night breeze rustled the high branches while crickets chirped their merry songs. Nothing was happening and everything seemed normal. Embersong was extremely board. It was her turn to keep watch of the camp and it wasn't at all enjoyable. The she-cat glanced around the forest, hoping to see something interesting. Of course nothing was happening.
"Maybe I could go hunting," the she-cat mumbled to herself. But of course she wouldn't. She had a job to do and she'd do it, even if it meant she'd have to be board until dawn. Embersong sat down and waited, knowing it wouldn't be long until the morning came. Flicking her tail, the warrior sat down and stared out into the inky darkness of the dim lighted forest. As she watched the forest, the dark grey she-cat heard a noise from her behind her. Turning around, Embersong saw Vixensong standing at the entrance.
"What are you doing," the camp guard asked with curiosity.
"Er, I just wanted to go hunting. I can't sleep, so I thought I might as well be useful and hunt for the Clan," the young warrior explained. Embersong nodded her head, not noticing the she-cat's jumpiness.
"Just be careful though, okay? If you fall and get hurt or worse, who knows when we'd find you? After all it is very dark out here, so you could lose your footing. Anyways, I won't hold you any longer. Good bye and be careful," Embersong called after Vixensong quietly. The ginger she-cat nodded her head and slipped into the calm forest. Almost as soon as she had left, Embersong heard another noise behind her. It sound like a scared screech from a kit coming from inside the camp. Reluctant to leave her post, Embersong padded through the tunnel entrance and saw Skykit hanging from an unknown cat's jaws.
"Let go of her," the former queen growled. Darting towards the strange cat, the warrior tried her best to avoid hitting Skykit.
"Help, someone wake up," Embersong yowled into the dark clearing. Her voice echoed through the camp, but no one awoke. With a growl, the dark grey she-cat made the cat drop Skykit. Picking her up, the warrior rushed over to the nursery and placed the grey she-cat near it.
"What's going on," Littleheart demanded as Stormpaw exited the apprentice's den. While Stormpaw ran over to Skykit, Littleheart gasped, noticing the strange cat fighting Embersong. Rushing over to help, the older tom leaped at the loner. Knowing the battle was lost, the strange cat fled into the darkness.
"Thank you," Embersong meowed to the deputy.
"Of course."
"What happened," a tired Dovestar demanded.
"Embersong was attacked by some loner or something. The cat tried to take Skykit," the deputy explained. Dovestar nodded as Pebblewing padded out.
"Skykit are you okay," the queen asked. Backing away, Stormpaw let the grey she-cat run up to her mother.
"I-I think so," the she-cat replied. The queen nodded.
"Oh Embersong thank you," she purred. "If you hadn't come to check, she might have been taken," the she-cat cooed to her former apprentice.
"Are you kidding? Anyone would've done it. Besides, Stormpaw kept her calm while Littlerheart helped me out," Embersong replied. Pebblewing nodded and went to thank the two toms. Meanwhile, more warriors flooded out wondering what all the commotion was. Immediately, the cam was filled with gossip with the events of what happened.
"Embersong are you okay," Minnowclaw asked with their kits not too far behind.
"Yes, just shaken up a bit." She glanced up at Dovestar, who was trying to get the attention of her Clan.
"Everyone calm down," the leader yowled, "Everything I taken care of, go back to your nests for some rest. Embersong and Littleheart, go have Bluewhisker check you out. Stormpaw, Minnowclaw, Echofrost, and Brindlefur, can you keep guard of the camp? I'd like two of you in the camp and the other two outside. Clan dismissed," the grey she-cat announced. Everyone flooded back into their dens and the camp was quit once more. Padding to the medicine den, Embersong stood at the entrance.
"Hello, anyone here," she called in.
"What is it," the tom grumbled.
"Well Dovestar wanted you to check us. Didn't you at least hear her announcement?"
"No, I was sleeping. Now, where are you injured?"
"I don't know," she admitted to the tom.
"Same here," Littleheart replied. Grumbling, Bluewhisker began to check over both cats. He found nothing wrong. Embersong padded back to the den to sleep. Before her eyes closed, thoughts were going through her head. Who was that cat? Why did he or she want to steal Skykit? Could the cat have been one of those from the strange sightings? Emberong went to sleep with more questions than answers.
QOTD: Who do you think the strange cat was?
