Chapter 41
"Ginny!" Hermione spoke, almost through gritted teeth. Her eyes still fixed on her daughters that were glowing mildly.
"Yes?" The redhead asked, pushing a piece of toast between her lips before turning to look at her wife. Her eyes going wide as she took in the sight before her. "Shit" She mumbled as she scrambled to her feet, the chair she'd been sat on screeching against the floor as she pushed it back.
"They're here" The large auror stated before standing up just as quickly. "Excuse us, we must get back to work" He spoke politely before virtually dragging the young girl from her chair and out of the door midway through a piece of bacon. They were quickly followed by the blonde man, and with a slam the door to the kitchen shut behind them.
Hermione could feel all the eyes in the room on her and Rose. Searching for what had caused such a outburst, and answers as to why it had. "Ginny" The brunette spoke, "This doesn't mean she's going to... She could just have taken after you a little bit, she might not be entirely..."
The redhead just stared, her expression totally blank as she took in her daughters features. Carefully watching for any signs of a shift, "why are her eyes doing that Hermione? Why did the aurors just up and leave as soon as they saw?" She spoke, her voice tight; sounding as if she was struggling to breathe.
"I tried to research it, I did. There was nothing, or not much anyway. A small passage had said a child born of a Lycan may inherit some of his and her tendencies, but may not take on them all. Another said, a child born of Lycan blood will sense when a strange Lycan is near" Hermione reeled off as quickly as she could, hoping that the redhead would understand what she had said.
"Why can't I sense it?! Why can't I tell they're here!?" Ginny growled, clearly agitated as she balled up her fists and sat down with a heavy thud.
"I don't know! I can't do anything but guess! You need to calm down, this isn't helping anyone!" Hermione's voice came out as more of a shriek, her eyes hardening as she glared at her wife. "I don't have all the answers! I can't know everything! If you're so worried tried to find out for yourself!" The brunette scolded, her temper flaring as she glared her wife down.
Rose, obviously feeling the tension within the room, burst into tears. Whimpering and wailing into her mothers shoulder as Hermione stood from the table, "Now if you excuse me, I have this to sort out" she seethed, before her face softened as she cooed at her daughter. Shushing her noisy sobs as she moved towards the doorway leading to the steps.
Ginny made to stand and go after them, but Hermione had heard her and turned quickly "No, Ginny. You stay here" She ordered before once again turning on heal and walking out. Bringing their daughter away from the tension as she did so.
"She's right dear, she shouldn't have to do all of the research for you." Molly spoke warmly, having set a cup of tea down in front of the still panicked redhead. The youngest Weasley deflating entirely as she watcher Hermione retreat with a still whimpering Rose.
Mr. Weasley sat in silence for a moment or so before speaking "Right, well maybe somebody should go and check on how the Aurors are getting on" The elder Weasley made to stand, but was stopped when Ginny held her hand out.
"I'll go. It's not safe for anyone else really" She sighed as she rubbed the back of her neck before standing. Ignoring all the protests from both of her parents as she pushed the back door open and wandered out into the back garden. Though it was quite warm, there was a wind that brought a slight chill to the air. Ginny scanned the yard ahead of her, squinting in an attempt to locate any of the aurors.
A shattering roar echoed from somewhere behind her followed by another of a slightly different pitch. Ginny could feel the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end, and her bones start to crack and shift as she took off running. Part of her wanted to control the shift, but the territorial instincts that pulsed around her veins over ruled any concious decision. Her legs carried her quickly now, as she leaped large distances at a time. Covering the space in a matter of moments, she soon settled her sights on a small battle raging between four large Lycan's, and who she knew to be the aurors.
With a heavy push off the ground, she sent herself careening into one of the large wolves attacking a light haired Lycan, bowling it backwards and pinning it down. The element of surprise weighing heavily in her favour as she slashed and clawed at it's face and snapped her jaws at it's throat.
It seemed to take a moment to register what had happened, to fight back with it's entire concious. A spell fired from somewhere behind the red Lycan hit the darker one pinned under her weight full force, and after a second or two it's eyes rolled back and it's body went limp. Reeling around to see who'd sent the curse, glowing golden eyes fell on Hermione, stood in her robe and slippers in the middle of the fight. Ron and Harry running in the distance, heading straight for them.
Ginny pushed herself from the ground, and slammed straight into a Lycan she'd caught heading straight for the brunette. Her body slamming into it heavily, but not hard enough to knock it over. A sinister laugh echoed between her ears as the Lycan spun around and snapped it's jaws at her. Coming close to clamping around the column of her throat.
A surge of anger rushed through her being, before she could register what she was doing she'd thrown her head forward stunning the larger beast long enough to sink her teeth into his neck and rip through his windpipe. The male fell limp in her jaws, before starting to shift back as she dropped his mangled body to the floor. The whoosh of spells and crack of beasts slamming into beasts filtered through the air. Polluting the normally calm aura around the burrow with a violent fog.
The incoming Lycans soon dwindled into few, and then none. Bodies unconscious and otherwise strewn across the ground. The two shifted aurors shrunk back down into their human states, both totally clothed to Ginny's astonishment. Turning her head to take Hermione in she wasn't surprised when the older woman asked the question playing on both their minds. "How are you both still wearing clothes after shifting?"
"Practice!" Came the shaggy haired shifter's response as she examined one of the bodies, pressing two fingers to it's neck before frowning.
"You just need to focus on the shift and the separation between both bodies. Clothing is part of your human body, if you keep that in mind, after a while your clothes will become part of the shift" The blonde answered, his eyes flicking between Ginny and Hermione.
The redhead remained shifted, in an attempt to keep her modesty. She could feel Hermione's eyes boring into her as she looked over to Harry and Ron who had arrived not long before the end of the fight.
"We'll stick around, just in case more come back" Ron stated, and Harry shook his head.
"Mate, we better just get this lot to the ministry and have them locked up before they come round. These three need to stay here" The green eyed boy ordered, pulling rank on the redhead.
"Fine" Ron grumbled, grabbing two of the unconscious beasts before apparating away.
"You have this covered don't you?" He spoke directly to O'leary, an eyebrow cocked in question.
"Of course" The large man answered sternly.
Hermione had summoned a large blanket from the house, and once again wrapped it around Ginny's shoulders. Allowing the younger girl to come down from her shift. "Harry, if you need help just send word. You too" She spoke to the aurors.
"We'll leave the clean up to the professionals" Ginny smirked, her muscles tense from the come down of the shift.
"Word of advice, practice your shifts. If your little one does take after you, she'll need guidance and you'll need to know how to give her that. You can't help if you run away from what you are until you need to turn into a big bad beasty. There's a lot to learn, just by being" The blonde stated, placing a friendly hand on the redheads shoulder.
"He's right you know, for once" Griffin piped up before vanishing with a crack, taking two more bodies with her.
"Well, thanks" Ginny spoke awkwardly, rubbing the back of her neck as she did. Her mind reeling at the thought of just shifting for the sake of shifting. What was the point if she didn't need to use it? Just sitting, and being would make the entire thing more real.
"Is there a reason as to why there isn't really any information on Lycans around? We've tried to do some research, but it hasn't really panned out as well as we'd hoped" Hermione paused, her curiosity getting the better of her as she addressed the blonde auror politely.
"We keep ourselves to ourselves. If you're not born into a pack, you start one of your own or are taken into one. If you need any help, I'll drop my personal details off before we leave for good." The man beamed a warm smile, his eyes bright as all of his features turned up with the grin.
"Thank you, that's very kind." Hermione smiled back, her own smile just as wide. Grateful for the offer in so many ways. "We'll leave you to it, wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble" She smiled again, before leading Ginny away and towards the house.
The redhead had remained silent during most of the exchange. Lost in her own thoughts as she took in some of the information they'd been given. It was incredibly generous of him to offer to help when they needed it.
"Do you think he'd know about Rose? How much she's affected?" Ginny asked, her voice quiet as she spoke.
"We'll ask when all of this gets cleared up. For now we can take care of it on our own. But you're not alone Ginny, he's just offered to help where he can. They both seemed to have more than an inkling on how hard it must be, maybe you need to talk to someone who knows." The brunette sighed as she pulled her robe further around her body.
"I think I have some old clothes in the wardrobe. Not that I mind you half naked, I'm just not keen on everyone else seeing." Ginny smirked, leaning down to kiss Hermione's cheek gently.
"You need to get this under control Ginny, You need to get yourself acquainted with that side of you. If," The brunette paused, pulling the redhead to a halt to force the girl to face her. "If Rose is like you, she's going to need help. YOU will have to help her. You can't help her if you don't know Ginny, I can't know unless you know. For once this isn't something a book is going to have information on. You need to accept it. You've been doing so well recently, but you haven't really accepted it" Hermione sighed, wrapping her arms around the redhead's shoulders as once again the older girl remained silent.
"I'll try" Ginny relented, biting at her lip gently as she took in her wife's features.
"If not for me, for Rose" Hermione sighed, shaking her head slightly as she buried her head in the redhead's neck.
"For you both, anything for you both" Ginny sighed, finally accepting what she had to do. Her arms snaked around Hermione's waist, holding on tightly as she pulled the brunette closer for a moment or so.
"We best get inside before your mother sends in a search party. Rose is with Luna as well, I'd like to just check on her" Hermione smiled, pressing a kiss to Ginny's jaw before pulling away to lead the younger girl through the yard and into the kitchen once again.
