Ch 37

The boys were at a loss for words. Cass could feel Dean tensing up. He never was one for showing much emotion other than anger, they all knew that. She was just hoping he could keep it under control 'til they all left the table.

"So...Bobby...what's the game plan?" Sam was the first to break the silence and for that Cass was greatful.

"I'm not really sure...they told me I could try chemo and some other options."

Cass could feel Dean growing more and more upset. She was hoping almost PRAYING that this conversation had an ending soon. After a few silent minutes Bobby excused himself.

"Well...I'm gonna go off to bed. Doc said to get plenty of rest...I'll see you guys in the morning..." Cass knew Bobby could feel the tension coming from Dean too. She felt bad that he felt the need to leave, but thought it was for the best.

No sooner had he shut his bedroom door did Dean get up and thrown his chair down to the floor in the process. Without saying a word he went out to the backyard and started running the course.

Sam looked to Cass. "I'll keep an eye on him, you can go to bed Sam. It's been a long day for everyone." Sam gave her a hug before heading upstairs to bed himself.

Cass made her way outside and found Dean just punching the hell out of one of the bags. He just kept punching and punching. She could see the tears forming in his eyes and starting to fall down his face. She made her way closer to him and reached him just as hell fell to his knees leaning his weight against the bag.

Without saying a word she sat down next to him and pulled him into her. She held him close and ran her fingers through his hair while he silently wept.

"I don't...why doesn't he just have Cas heal him?" Dean asked trying to catch his breath.

"I don't know babe...maybe he sees it as his own battle to fight...They said it was still in the early stages...we all know there's not really shot of a full remission, but at least if he gives these treatments a try, he can stay with us longer..."

"Then why not just have Cas heal him and he'll be around longer for sure?! One of us is dying or on our way to death, we go make a deal with a demon or have Cas heal us, it's that simple."

"But not this time...Dean...he doesn't want to go down without a fight. I say we help him win this fight as much as possible...He...He might change his mind later, ok?"

Cass didn't know what else to say. There wasn't much to more to say she guessed. It was Bobby's decision. She was very proud of Dean holding it together as much as he was possible of doing 'til Bobby went to bed.

"Come on, let's get to bed. It's been a long day." Cass started to get up, but felt herself trapped under Dean. "Dean...come on."

"Can we stay out here just a little bit longer?"

Cass sees the plead in his eyes, "Sure babe." She places a kiss on his forehead before leaning back against the course and getting a tad more comfortable.

They both just sit there in silence staring up at the sky. While thinking to herself a thought crossed her mind and she was furious. There was a certain reaper she had to call upon and get some answers. Answers she wasn't so sure she wanted to get.

As soon as Dean was asleep Cass grabbed the necessities to call on Tessa.

"You know if you'd been practicing, you wouldn't even need any of that to call on me."

"Shut it...is that what you guys had me preparing for? To reap Bobby?!"

"Who's to say? Who's to say one of the boys won't die before he does? Or anyone else you might be close to? You NEED to be prepared for anything. Yes, what your mom's journal reads inside is important, but you also need to be practice your other skills too. From what I've heard it won't be long before Nero makes a move, so you better get to making one yourself."

And with that she was gone.

"Damn it! Son of a bitch!" Cass threw the bowl she had across the yard and kicked the ground. What the hell was that supposed to mean?!

Dean woke up to find himself alone in bed. It was still dark out and he started to freak a little about where Cass could be. He didn't hear any movement in the kitchen. He decided to go downstairs and take a look around. He found Cass laying out on the couch. Once he got a closer look he noticed her breathing was very shallow and her eyes were twitching under her eye lids. He was just about to rush to her when he noticed an extreme drop in temperature around him.

"Cass?" A book fell off the shelf next to him. "What are you doing?" The book that fell levitated back off the floor into the air before it dropped back down to the ground with a thud.

Cass took gasped for air as she woke up and Dean rushed to her side to make sure she was ok.

"I didn't mean to scare you," she said into his shoulder as her breathing got back to normal.

He pulled her away from him just enough to be able to look her in the eye. "Don't ever scare me like that again. What are you doing?"

"I need to practice. Tessa said that Nero is getting ready to make a move."

"Then I think we all have some work to do...why didn't you have me there for when you called on Tessa?"

"You had finally settled down enough to sleep, you needed it. I promise to keep you for two days straight if I have to next time I decide to conjure anybody." She gave him a smart ass smirk only to get a stern look on Dean's face.

"You know we're a team again now, right?"

"I do, I'm just still getting used to it. You know I was almost always one to try to handle things on my own before too."

"Yeah, I remember. You were a pain in my ass then."

"And I don't plan on changing that any time soon." She placed a kiss on his lips as he held her close.

"So...I guess we have work to do." They turned to see Bobby standing in the archway of the room books in hand.

"Yes, yes we do." Cass replied as she got up to give him a hug. She felt the awkward tension between him and Dean and excused herself to go get something small fixed for breakfast.

"Did she say anything about WHAT he might be planning to do?" Sam asked.

"No, since when do any of these supernatural beings say anything straight without some type of riddle? The only clue she really gave me is that I need to work on my 'reaper' abilities. I don't know if me fighting on that plane would have a higher advantage or what."

"Have you managed to make any more sense out of your mom's journal?" Bobby was curious about it, she had yet to let him take a crack at it.

"Not really. A lot of folklore and stuff about my heritage, but nothing I can actually really piece together about why I have the abilities that I do or any more about where my talisman came from or anything that really gives me a clue about what is that we're looking for."

"Would you mind if I took a look at it?" Bobby asked.

"Not at all. I need a break from it anyways and practice everything else." Cass could see Dean looking at her concerned and upset, but she knew she had to do it whether he liked it or not.

"I'm supervising you this time." Dean said matter of factly.

"Excuse me?"

"I came downstairs this morning and you looked about dead Cass! You were pale as a ghost and you looked possessed with your eyes twitching all crazy."

"Ummm...I kinda AM dead when I do that, you know that right?"

"Look, I'm not wanting you to be a smart ass about this or start a fight about it. You're just extremely vulnerable while you do that and I'd feel better if at least one of us was watching over you."

Cass let out a sigh, she knew there was no arguing this with him, "Fine, but no matter what you can't wake me, it has to be me myself, or else you could kill me."

Dean's eyes bugged out for a second, but he understood. He didn't like it, but knew there was no changing her mind on the matter.

The rest of the day went off without a hitch. Sam and Bobby took a look at the journal while Dean and Cass worked together. It was just about sunset when Bobby leaped out of his chair and headed to his library of books he brought.

"Everything ok Bobby?" Sam asked as he came into the room after him.

"I think I know where to find the artifacts her mom was talking about."
