Prompt: Elizabeth Thatcher -"I'm going to write to you about everything that happens, so that even though I'm so far away neither one of us will ever feel alone." - 'When Calls the Heart'
Kurt looked down at the silver band on his finger. Was this little piece of metal enough this time? Distance was hard on relationships, he and Blaine had learned that first hand. They had even made all those promises to each other to call and to use Skype to stay in touch and somehow they had still failed to communicate. Blaine had felt alone and had gone looking for companionship elsewhere.
Though he had forgiven Blaine, Kurt still felt hurt that he hadn't been enough for Blaine as well as guilt that he must have failed somehow in doing enough to bridge the distance between them. If their love hadn't been enough last time what made them think this time would be any different?
A familiar hand took his, blocking the silver band from view. Looking up, Kurt found himself face-to-face with his fiancé.
"This time will be different, I promise," Blaine told him. "I know now what really not having you in my life is like, and I don't ever want to repeat that."
Kurt smiled, even as he stepped forward to embrace his fiancé. Blaine was right. That was the difference this time - they knew how empty life was without the other. Phone calls, Skype and email was better than the silence that had dominated before this. With that knowledge they could make it until June when Blaine would be free to come join him in New York City.
"I love you," Kurt told him, resting his chin on Blaine's shoulder as they held each other tight. He had once promised to never say good-bye to Blaine, and despite everything that they had been through, those words had yet to cross his lips. Perhaps that was the real reason that their love had survived everything they had been through.
