-Chapter Thirty-Five-
"What we need to do now is stop Baroque Works, that organization is about to cause a pointless war with their malicious scheming. They're trying to destroy this country and we must stop them, no matter what the cost may be, I don't care how difficult it is or what the dangers are. They absolutely must be stopped, Crocodile will never get what he wants, not while I'm alive" the princess stated.
"Well, I guess we should get going now, huh?" Usopp questioned as he pushed himself to stand.
"Usopp, are you sure you're alright?" Vivi asked.
"Oh please, are you kidding me? I'm feeling so strong right now it almost hurts" Usopp boasted.
"Liar" Sanji spat out the minute he caught sight of the long-nosed pirate's legs shaking.
"My legs are shaking because I got so much energy" Usopp defended. "You haven't seen strong until you see Captain Usopp in action, I won't waver or fall for one second" he proudly stated before falling over when the blond headed chef touched the back of his legs. "What did you do that for?!"
"Alright, we should get going" Nami said, ignoring the two.
"What? But, shouldn't we wait for Luffy and the others?" Vivi asked.
"Yeah, if we get too far, they might not be able to find us" I piped up.
"You both are such worry warts, Luffy is absolutely determined to beat Crocodile. Once he has his mind set on something, just let him do his own thing, you know that" Nami said, brushing away our worries and caused a smile to stretched across the both of our faces.
-Later-
"You're falling behind. What happened to all that strength and energy you had, Captain Usopp?" Sanji teased, as Usopp lagged behind.
"Oh, that, I meant it more in a metaphorical sense. Not literally" Usopp panted out.
"Well hang in there, just a little bit longer" Nami piped up as I looked forward once again after letting my eyes wander around. "Still worried, huh?"
"Oh, no" Vivi shook her head the minute the orange haired woman and I looked back towards her.
"It's written all over your face" Nami pointed out. "You can't hide it that well, just like Skylar can't hide that crush of hers on Zoro."
"I told you we are just friends!"
"Yeah, I guess it is, I'm sure they're okay. Really" Vivi said as she gave a breathless laugh while I buried my face in my hands.
"You guys are jerks" I grumbled, causing Nami to laugh as Vivi patted my back.
"I seriously doubt you'll ever stop being a worry wart, but that isn't always necessarily a bad thing" Nami said, going back to the conversation at hand.
"You know, you guys are amazing" Vivi suddenly complimented.
"Huh?" Nami questioned.
"Trying to butter us up now, are we?" I questioned, chuckling as the princess smiled.
"No, it's just that I've been thinking about it since Little Garden. You all seem to have so much faith in one another and even take care of one another when one gets injured. How do you do that?" she asked.
"How? I guess it's something I'm not really conscious of, I've never really thought much about it before" Nami hummed.
"That's what so amazing, that kind of unconditional faith in one another is really difficult to come by!" Vivi exclaimed.
"I can't say for sure, but maybe we trust each other because we all do whatever we can to the best that we can. A while back Luffy said something back on my home island that makes a lot of sense" Nami explained, quoting the words she remembered the rubber man had spoken. "I remember those words well and I thought, huh, this is something that makes these pirates different. This is how they are, if you're alone your strength is limited, there is only so much that one person can do after all. One isn't enough, you need friends, but at the same time it amounts to nothing if those friends aren't trying every bit as hard as you can do" she continued.
"Well, I don't know if that was an answer" Nami sheepishly smiled.
"It's great" Vivi beamed.
"You certainly know your way with words, Nami" I complimented.
"Yeah, well, it's really hard to keep your thoughts straight in this heat" Nami laughed as her cheeks flushed a bit from the compliment. We walked in silence after that, but it wasn't long before Vivi was patting both Nami and mine's shoulder, motioning us to look to where she was pointing. My posture straightened and my eyes lit up when I saw Luffy, Zoro, and Chopper making their way towards us. The rubber man waving his arms around as the other two were panting, out of breath.
-Time Skip-
"Hey, Luffy" Usopp groaned.
"Huh?"
"What was that thing your brother gave you?" the long-nosed pirate asked. I sighed from the heat, back to walking with the guys. A small smile slipped onto my lips when I felt Zoro grab my hand and gently rub his thumb on the back of it.
"I don't really know, it looks like a scrap of paper" Luffy shrugged.
"It's just paper?" Chopper questioned.
"Quite a unique thing to give someone as a parting gift" I commented.
"Let me see" Sanji said, taking the piece of paper from Luffy and examining it. "Huh? Well it really does look like just a piece of paper, there's nothing written on it or anything."
"Is that all, really?" Usopp questioned.
"I'm not really sure why Ace gave it to me, but I'm sure it's important" Luffy smiled before his eyes widened as the wind picked and blew the piece of paper out of Sanji's hand. "Don't eat that, dumb camel!" he soon cried out when Eyelash caught the piece of paper and started munching on it.
"Hey, Luffy, give me your hat" Nami ordered.
"Huh? Why?"
"If it's really that important to you, I could sew it to the underside of your hat ribbon" she suggested.
"Good idea, sew it on real good" Luffy smiled as he removed his hat and handed it to Nami.
"Yeah, yeah. There, all done" Nami smiled as she handed the hat back to the rubber man.
"Now I don't have to worry about losing it, thanks!" Luffy thanked.
"If there isn't anything written on it, what's the whole point of hanging onto the thing?" Zoro asked.
"Ace said it was important and I should hang onto it and so I'm hanging onto it, that's all" Luffy shrugged.
"So, you're pretty much basing your decision on nothing" Sanji said, a sweat drop appearing on the back of his head.
"No, it's instinct, they're right a lot" Luffy defended.
"Sharp as a toothpick" Zoro murmured, causing me to giggle.
"Well that can't be the only reason, right? Wouldn't you also be holding onto it because it's a gift from your brother?" I asked.
"Oh yeah, that too" Luffy laughed.
"Will someone please carry me?" Usopp suddenly panted out.
"You guys, we're close now, just pass those rocks there. One last push and I'm sure we'll make it" Vivi smiled.
"Yeah!" Luffy and Chopper cheered.
"Yuba!" the rubber man cheered as he ran ahead.
"Not another minute to spare" Nami commented as she followed.
"Yeah" Chopper agreed.
"Come on, Zoro, I'm light" Usopp begged as he followed close behind the swordsman.
"Suck it up" Zoro rejected.
"If he won't carry me, I doubt he'll carry you" I rolled my eyes as the long-nosed pirate whined at this.
