Chapter 36:
However long it is until Andrew turns two...
TRIS POV:
Today I have a big meeting with all the leaders of every faction. Tobias decided not to go because we are still clearing things up from Marcus.
Marcus was recently put in Dauntless jail, by us, and is going to trial in a few months. It's taking a while because of all the things we missed.
Andrew is now two and is learning things so freaking fast, I wouldn't be surprised if he was Erudite, but he most likely will be Divergent. We decided not to sweat it until he's to the age where he understands as well as cares about his safety in that sense.
Tobias and I always have to be careful around Andrew with bad words, including stupid and idiot, in front of him. Recently he has been testing out every word he hears, mainly failing because of his little toddler mouth.
Tobias offered to take care of Andrew today while he went to the holding cells and talked to the guards surrounding Marcus's. Which means I'm forced to walk to the meeting all by myself, which is what I'm currently doing. I enter the room and just so happen to be the last one there. They all look up at me, and fall silent. I am the leader of this meeting, as it is held in Dauntless.
"Hello everyone. My partners are unable to come today, but one will be here this afternoon, so it is just me this morning. I want to welcome you to Dauntless." I say, a little shakily as this is my first meeting with all the leaders so I'm a little nervous.
"Excuse me but, how old are you? You don't seem very old." He questions. I study him, he's from Candor, of course.
"I'm 21. Any other questions Candor?" I questions, my voice showing clear frustration as I call him by his faction.
"Yes I do. How did you become a leader, you don't seem very tough." He talks back, and I roll my eyes.
"Why do people keep saying that!" I reply more to myself walking up to him and flipping him onto his back, then turning back around, brushing the pretend dust off.
"Any other questions?" I ask raising both my eyebrows. Everyone shakes their head while watching the other Candor leader pick the other of the ground.
I take my seat at the head of the table, scooting my seat in as I place my elbows on the wood, folding my hands together in front of me. I scan all the leaders faces, sizing them up as silence envelopes the room. Then my eyes meet two pair of eyes I thought never to see again, my father and my brothers. They sit near each other, which is odd as Erudite and Abnegation usually don't get along.
I advert my eyes but after a few seconds I can't help looking back, we make eye contact that I immediately looked down from. I can still see my fathers face from choosing day as if it's drilled into my brain. All the disappointment, sadness and rage.
We continue to talk about the factions and the ultimate goals we have for each other. Apparently many Amity think that Dauntless initiation is too rough and I just replied with a snort.
Near lunch time I knew that we would have to go to the cafeteria so we could eat. I reserved a table off for all the leaders to sit at so they wouldn't have to talk to the rest of Dauntless, as most other faction leaders find us too rowdy and outgoing.
I lead them into the hallway and I see Tobias straight in front of me without Andrew, which makes me wonder where our little boy is.
"Four!" I yell while all the leaders become quiet and watch me run towards him. They follow my lead, though unable to run as fast as me.
When I reach Tobias I give him a quick peck and pull back. "Where's Andrew?" I ask, quietly so that my father and brother wouldn't hear.
"Well, I sent him to walk down the hall while I catch up. He said he would come right back and I saw him coming so, I think he's going to be-" he's cut off by a loud screech.
"DADDY!" I hear Andrew scream from across the long corridor.
Well there goes me trying to hide him from my father, and we have another meeting tomorrow with just Abnegation, then Erudite the next day, then Amity, and Candor. I will have to talk to my father privately tomorrow, which will turn awkward fast.
Tobias picks up the running, more wobbling, kid and holds him up. I look back at the group of people and am instantly nervous when I see my fathers face.
ANDREW (TRIS'S FATHER) POV:
I'm waiting for the Dauntless representative, along as the Erudite to come in and begin this thing. They are already a full ten minutes late, making a bad first impression.
I'm the only one sitting down, the others standing talking to each other as I sit waiting. I don't tell anyone how bored I am because that would be selfish, of course. Then out of the corner of my eye I see a flash of blue. I turn to look at who the new Erudite leader is, because I've heard they have been changing around a lot.
When I turn I'm meet with Caleb. My son. I see those fake glasses on his face and I instantly get mad. I try not to show it, due to my Abnegation teaching, but Caleb comes over making it worse.
"Hello father." He says politely. I look at him and the blue suit he is wearing.
"Hello." I say back trying to be selfless. "How have you been Caleb?"
"Good. I'm the new leader of Erudite." He says hesitantly.
"That's great." I say, partially happy for him, and partially upset that he betrayed us.
Suddenly the door is slammed open and in walks a short girl with blond hair. Everyone falls silent when she enters and they stare over to her.
"Hello everyone. My partners are unable to come today, but one will be here this afternoon, so it is just me this morning. I want to welcome you to Dauntless." She explains, and that's when I notice her bright blue eyes… just like Beatrice's.
"Excuse me but, how old are you? You don't seem very old." The Candor leader asks. She studies him, eyes raging but also curious.
"I'm 21. Any other questions Candor?" She says calling him by his faction, not his name.
"Yes I do. How did you become a leader, you don't seem very tough." He retorts.
"Why do people keep saying that!" She replies more to herself, walking up to him and flipping him onto his back. She then brushes her hands on her pants, wiping them off.
"Any other questions?" She ask raising both her eyebrows. Everyone shakes their head, including me, while watching the other Candor leader pick the other of the ground.
That's when I see the three raven tattoos printed on her neck, the same ones Natalie told me about. This is Beatrice, my little girl.
We all sit down and Beatrice's eyes quickly snap to mine then the other way.
She pretends like she didn't notice me as she continues to talk about the factions. We move on with our meeting and soon enough Beatrice calls out that it is time for lunch.
We are walking down the hall when she yells, "Four!"
That's when I see a tall male with a strong build walking in the same direction, turn around and look at Beatrice. They share a short...kiss? What!?
They begin to talk for a short time before I hear a little voice yell, "DADDY!" That's when I see the tall male that kissed Beatrice, pick up a small, around two year old, little boy.
This must be Beatrice's kid. My grandchild.
TOBIAS POV:
"DADDY!" Andrew screams waddling towards me as fast as his little toddler legs will allow. When he gets close, I pick him up and hold him in a sitting position in one of my arms.
I look back at Tris who is focused on somebody in the large group of leaders behind us. I nudge her getting her attention back and she looks up at me.
She has a nervous look in her eyes as she nudges me and whispers, "I need to deal with some stuff. Can you please bring all the leaders to lunch and I will meet you there?"
"Sure." I say while giving her another light peck on the lips. She gives me a thankful look and then turns back to the other leaders.
"Four here, will take you all to lunch." She says and walks through them grabbing someone's, arm, and I strain my neck trying to see this persons face.
"Alright follow me." I say turning into instructor Four.
When we get to the dining room I show them to their table and then go with Andrew to go sit with Tris's and my friends. They greet me as I walk up, but I talk very little. I sit down with Andrew sitting next to me and I put food on our plates. I make a plate for Tris and then I help Andrew eat. When he's done and I am too, we sit there and wait for Tris.
After thirty minutes I start to worry, Andrew and I are the only one at our table left and the last people here are starting to leave too. I grab Tris's plate and begin to stand up.
"Where's Mommy?" Andrew asks politely.
"She'll be right back. We're going to meet her back at home." I say and he stands up, starting to follow me.
We walk to our apartment and I put the plate of food in the fridge, not knowing how long it's going to take her. I'm starting to worry about her. How long does it take to talk to somebody?
I sit on the couch and Andrew climbs up next to me, slowly beginning to fall asleep. Soon after he falls into a deep sleep, I drift off into my own deep slumber.
Hey guys! Guess who got another update in! ME! I was so overwhelmed with the amount of reviews I received, and the length of them that I almost started crying. Thank you guys so much!
Guest:DauntlessRunner46: What you said made my day, even though it might not have been made to do so. I agree with everything you say, but this time it's actually personal problems. Yes my friends have been getting better...except for one but I stopped talking to her because after she got a boyfriend, she stopped talking much to me, and when she hung out with me, she was face timing him to whole time, and I told her that and she now stopped talking to me, but that's fine. Boys I agree are total a-holes, especially the ones at my school. Thank god I'm going into high school next year... though it's probably going to get worse...but thank you so much for the amazing review, and caring so much for me. That means the world.
remember, if your reviews are as long and meaningful, I will reply like I did above, but I also really appreciate all the other ones as well, so thank you all very very much! Please Review!
