"Hekate was a Greek goddess, back then they all believed that she mastered everything from the powers of the full moon to ghosts and necromancy, meaning that she could interfere with the other side and connect to the dead but she could also deal with creatures like werewolves." Bonnie excitedly explained Caroline while turning pages on one of the books she took from Kol.

"If I got it right, you descend from this Hekate figure while she descended from Qetsiyah." Caroline popped the cork of another champagne bottle.

"Umm…" Bonnie interrupted her coffee sipping. "Kol and I are certain that she was a Supreme, at first we thought that she was just some hostess for Qetsiyah but if we really look into it, it makes sense that she was a Supreme instead, which also supports a big theory that we have, maybe all Supremes come from that lineage and I fall right smack into the middle of all that."

"What about Gen-wench?" Caroline grumbled before drinking straight from the bottle.

"She likes killing people and she's a psycho with a thing for Klaus…" Bonnie was careful with the usage of her tone. "She made a shrine for him but we destroyed that when Kol burned the house down."

"She compelled Klaus to stop liking me." Caroline sulked resting the bottle against her forehead while she closed her eyes.

"I'm sorry Care… how are you?" she asked sincerely.

"I'm fine." Caroline sounded merry.

"I'll be back soon, we just stopped to have breakfast but then it's a straight drive home." Bonnie guaranteed with affection.

"How's your road trip with Kol going so far?" Caroline leaned back inside of the huge bathtub.

Bonnie closed the book and started outlining the big letters engraved on the old cover. "It was nice being away from everything and spending time alone with him, we kind of got closer because of it…"

Caroline eagerly kept on drinking from the bottle before pressing for details. "Any big progress that is making you blush?"

Bonnie smiled looking outside the diner where Kol was engaged on an intense phone conversation that already lasted for half an hour. "Only his stubble that is starting to make an appearance and… I was not ready for that." she sighed finding him hotter than ever with the new look.

Caroline grunted. "Idiots with scruffy unshaven faces."

"You can say that again." Bonnie gazed at her sight.

"I'm not saying anything, I'm drinking all the champagne left in the house and then I'm going to sleep until September comes." Caroline chuckled with the rest of the joke that wasn't coming.

"That doesn't sound like the Caroline I know." Bonnie left the small place and went outside to meet up with Kol.

"I just had my heart shredded into a million pieces so I'm handling things with panache."

"You need to stop talking like Klaus." Bonnie warned her.

"Come on love, don't be upset." Caroline managed a perfect British accent.

"It's not funny Caroline." Bonnie assured her before ending the call.

Kol was just ending his as well and took the coffee she offered him with a smile.

"The coffee was getting cold." she told him with a lazy gaze, unlike other things that were pretty much sizzling between them.

"I was first on the phone with Elijah, he's trying to help Nik with the hex but then I got another call about a flock headed south that intrigued me and I got distracted with that."

"Are we going to follow-up on that?" Bonnie asked casually while her flirt remained far from casual.

"My turn to drive little one." he teased her with an ambiguous answer.

The way she went around the car without questioning him was a big proof how much she trusted him now, slightly affected by it Kol decided to ask the one thing that had been bugging him a little since he woke up alone back in the room.

"You weren't there when I woke up this morning." he opened the door on his side.

"I wasn't that comfortable waking up naked next to you." she aimed at careless but hit him with a bomb out of nowhere.

Kol bumped his head against the door frame and roughly sat on the driving seat with a throbbing head. "What?" he asked her confused.

"I couldn't decide on what to wear so I decided to sleep naked." she looked at him serious and intent on finding how long she could last without breaking into laughter.

He did laugh after a few seconds. "Your timing is improving, you really had me convinced there."

Bonnie smiled looking ahead. "I wasn't naked that's true but I was barely clothed when you decided to snuggle."

Kol started the car with a grave expression. "I hate being human." he could not believe he just missed the moment because he was sleeping.

"No you don't." she faced him with a sweet smile, she liked him human as well.

"How much skin exposure did I scandalously miss exactly?" he asked discouraged.

She only laughed leaving him agonized over the misgiving.

Caroline dropped the empty bottle on the floor and slid her hands under the water so that she could be completely immersed under the hot blanket, she closed her eyes and stayed still for the longest time, she didn't breathe or think, she just remained there wanting to hide from the world.

It was with an absolute lack of willpower that she left the bathtub, she avoided stumbling on all the empty bottles on the floor and went to the master bedroom, she dropped her heavy body on the bed wrapped in a towel and hid her face on the pillow that belonged to Klaus.

She took in a long and deep inhale just to bask in that scent that warmed her heart. "Ugh!" she grunted against the pillow. "You need to react Caroline." she commanded herself loudly to take back control over her situation.

She hauled her head away from the pillow and then with a swift move she was on her feet. "You are a former cheerleader captain, Miss everything on that damn town and runner-up in prom." Decisively she opened up the closet and picked a dress to wear. "You will not sit by the window wearing Klaus' shirt and watch the seasons change."

The short strapless Denim dress was her choice for today and Caroline moved to the bathroom to work on her hair, as she skillfully straightened it to look slick and royal, she also kept her cheering will going. "This is the real world Caroline, in here vampires don't sparkle, they sizzle." she narrowed her eyes at the mirror assertive.

Even the weight of the Henley was heavy against his bones, everything was still very much sore after a long hot shower and Klaus rested his hands over the small counter in the bathroom, he knew that when something carried such an accurate resemblance to the past, it was meant to come forward as an unwanted walk to his memories.

With a slow move across the foggy mirror he cleared a view for his tired face.

10th Century

He shielded his face from another strike that would surely cut his cheek but the leather belt still harmed a hand that was already bruised.

Klaus couldn't even remember what was Mikael's excuse this time to hurt him, just that he was defiantly taking his time, beating him up with a heavier hand than usual.

When the leather cut his wrist with another hit Klaus painfully realized that he wouldn't be able to make his beloved drawings for weeks, the wound would take long to heal but not as long as the stinging cut Mikael just made by using the lash right across Klaus' face.

He held back the scream of pain because he would not grant his father that pleasure but it was hard to do so as he fell to his knees and the hits kept coming with a ruthless hand that didn't waver at all.

After the first strikes everything became agonizingly numb and Klaus lost awareness of where he was, if it was the hut his mother was again cowardly recoiling from showing up while Mikael inflicted his teaching manners and at this point Klaus could only hope that he would be unconscious soon.

And it was closer to his wish that he barely made anything out of the figure that stepped in front of him and took the next merciless hit instead of him.

Klaus blinked trying to swallow some of the blood filling his mouth so that he could talk but his father said the name for him.

"Elijah, what are you doing?" Mikael pulled back the leather weapon somewhat bothered that he hit his older son.

"Hadn't I returned home early from my chores and you would have killed him father." Elijah spoke harshly accusing him of another unjustified attack on Klaus.

Mikael couldn't see anything wrong with that phrase except for Elijah's insolent tone, for that reason his hand twitched eager to teach Elijah about respect as well. "Step aside if you don't wish to learn a valuable lesson today Elijah."

"Defending a brother is not honorable father? Am I deviating from what I was taught by pleading you to take out your anger on my back instead of Niklaus'?"

"Caring for those who are weaker than us is a sign of weakness Elijah." Mikael dropped the end of the lash on the ground.

Elijah prepared to be hit at any second. "If I encounter a man by the side of the road unable to lift a wagon by himself, I will stop and help him until he is able to go on his way without help yet I don't see myself as weak for helping a stranger, why should I not apply the same to my family?"

"The boy is not your blood Elijah." Mikael hissed.

"He is my brother and I love him."Elijah simply replied.

"Then you are a fool." his father said.

Elijah showed him a sad smile. "I rather be a fool than unmerited."

Mikael yelled in anger as he hit Elijah with his bare hand, hitting him cruelly on the face. "Trust me that this hurts me more than it hurts you but I will not have you speak to me in such ways."

"Father! Father!" A young boy rushed inside of the hut out of breath.

"What do you want?" Mikael shouted upset, he couldn't even remember the name of this one.

"The horses got away and Finn went after them." Kol said with rush accusing the urgency in his voice.

Mikael hesitated but didn't strike Elijah again, he pushed his son away by releasing the shirt he was clutching and then ran out of the hut aware that his other useless son wouldn't catch any of the horses.

"How did the horses get away?" Elijah questioned Kol with a dubious look.

Kol smirked in all of his sweet mischievousness. "I set them free."

"That would have been the smart thing to do before I confronted father." Elijah admitted.

Kol helped Elijah pick Klaus up and carefully took Klaus' arm placing it around his neck, he wasn't as strong as Elijah but he was eager to help.

While they carried Klaus to another hut Kol dived his hand inside of his shirt and retrieved a hand full of bright green leafs from it. "I stole this from Ayana, I saw her use them to heal a men who cut himself with an axe yesterday." he said certain that they would heal Klaus' wounds faster.

Elijah and Klaus eyed Kol with a frown, to which he simply shrugged.

"Mother made me carry water for her because she didn't have anyone to do it, I took the herbs as payment." Kol explained.

"You must be so tired." Elijah mocked the only work Kol had done all week.

"I'm exhausted." Kol responded with a fatigue tone.

Elijah and Klaus laughed but the later pressed his teeth responding to the pain.

"Don't make me laugh Kol…" Klaus begged of him.

"I don't know why you are laughing at all, carrying water all the way from the waterfalls to Ayana's hut is very straining." Kol huffed.

"Specially considering how much that robs you of time to chase after every young girl in the village." Elijah reprimanded Kol.

The young one helped Klaus sit once they reached the hut where they kept food stored for winter and went to the door to keep watch, he didn't bother with a defense of any sorts, there wasn't much he could say except validate Elijah's accusation.

Klaus couldn't move without feeling that his back was going to break in two, his ribs ached as he tried something as simple as breathing and he looked at Elijah as the other quietly started cleaning the open wounds on his face.

This was the hardest part truthfully for Klaus, because he would take weeks to heal properly, his daily chores would be insufferable and sleeping would be impossible because he couldn't lie down properly.

And this was only counting that Mikael wouldn't snap for something random again and beat him up while he was still recovering, he was strong, if anything Klaus was resilient and had a hard shell but inevitably he also broke down from time to time.

Today was one of those days as he looked down from Elijah and tears started roaming down his cheeks, he was tired of the constant pain and he quietly sobbed against Elijah's shoulder as the other brought him closer to him.

Kol looked back in silence at Elijah holding a broken Klaus, the hardest part for them was that no one knew what to tell Klaus so none of them ever said a word.

"I've got two options but now is the time to be greedy." Elijah said from the threshold.

Klaus turned to his brother and unexpectedly smiled, it wasn't what he was expecting after awakening such a harsh memory but neither were Elijah's clothes. "Has that day finally come? You have run out of suits to wear and don't want to commit a fashion crime by wearing the same suit twice."

Elijah was holding a bottle of Scotch in one hand and a bag of blood in the other and he was wearing Denim and a long-sleeved Henley. "Last night was extremely hard to endure Niklaus, I need to step out of my comfort zone if I have to stand watching you excruciatingly shift into a wolf, over and over." he stated as Klaus took the blood.

"Some of us still do it the old way." Klaus ventured a small joke.

"Are we headed to an old-fashion hunt now?" Elijah wasn't sure.

Klaus smiled leaving his brother with the bottle of booze. "I have a score to settle first, since we are speaking of old."

"You do not require the company?"

Klaus looked back with a smirk. "Don't you have an anchor to find brother?"

Elijah grimly nodded, he almost forgot about that.

Mystic Falls

"I can't believe that you are making me do this Rebekah." Matt said as he walked ahead of her.

"I asked you gently Matt." Rebekah tried with a smile.

"You compelled me." he narrowed his eyes before turning to face her.

"There is no time to be meticulous Matty, I need that necklace but I can't step inside that small cave where I left it and because you are this extraordinary human, you will do this for me."

He didn't move, he only pointed the flashlight at her. "It's a little late for compliments, you ruined that with the compulsion."

"And if you don't move I will furthermore ruin it by decapitating you." her smile turned into something sinister.

Matt gulped down scared and decided to go inside of the cave, he started looking for the necklace while Rebekah waited outside for him.

"Who is that English guy that you brought along?" he asked, casually.

Rebekah gave him a look and lowered her chin with a seriously expression.

Matt went back to his search, someone was spending too much time with Caroline.

"Can I offer you some company?"

Caroline looked up from her phone a bit puzzled, she faced a total stranger who was smiling at her. "No…" she reached for her glass of white wine and left him drooling on the counter, her moment of peace didn't last because as soon as she chose a table, Camille came pacing quickly to her and with a lot on her mind.

That was Caroline's guess and she wasn't far from reality.

"Where is my uncle?" Camille stormed at once with demands.

"Probably with Damon, the one who tried to kill you." Caroline sat on a chair and dropped her phone on the table, there was nothing but attitude as she faced Camille.

The other pulled her sleeves up like she was preparing for a cat-fight. "Why aren't you searching for him with Klaus?"

"Because we are not the vampire rescuing squad." Caroline forced a smile that wasn't remotely honest.

Camille eased on her bad humor. "Are you upset about Marcel?" she took a seat with Caroline.

The other raised her hand stopping her from going far with this. "I know what you said about our friendship being separated from our boyfriends but Marcel attacked Klaus, that left me in a mood so I can't really be your friend right now if you start defending your boyfriend."

"He was hurt because of Davina." Camille said in a low voice.

"Seriously?" Caroline snapped. "He harmed Klaus and he delivered him to Gen-wench." Caroline shouted furious.

"Klaus didn't help him save Davina." Camille simply said before she stood up and left.

Caroline slammed her palms against the table and followed the other one right outside to the back alley. "It's not his job to save everyone, God, no one lifts a finger to help him so why is Marcel now expecting Klaus to solve all of his problems? I'm sorry for the girl but Klaus is not the Messiah, he won't start bringing back everyone just because people ask him to."

"He could have at least tried to show Marcel that he would have done everything under his power to help him, even if it didn't work Marcel would have felt that Klaus hadn't abandoned him when he most needed him."

Caroline was livid. "Marcel still had no right to turn against Klaus like that, just because Klaus refuses to hold his hand he can't just deliver him to the first enemy that comes along. Something that he keeps trying by teaming up with everyone who has Klaus' name on their evil list."

"Marcel trusted Klaus, he doesn't trust many and he feels betrayed by a parental figure, that triggered a bad response from Marcel which was taken under pressure and in the heat of everything that happened that day."

"Oh shut up with your cheap analysis Cami. He was a jerk and a traitor long before all of this, or are we forgetting that he called Mikael when he needed to steal the throne from Klaus?"

Camille wasn't amused. "I know what I'm talking about and you are deflecting events to the importance that you need them to be…"

"My life is turned upside down because of Marcel and all the psychology in the world won't make me sympathize with your dark lover."

Camille was on the way to another elaborate display of her pocket degree when a few screams came from inside the bar, as they both rushed inside to see what was happening they froze at the same time as they walked in on Klaus burying a piece of wood on someone's neck and already grabbing another vampire that he compelled.

"Go tell Marcel that I'm waiting for him, I'd run if I were you because the next one I'm killing is Camille." he told the girl but looked behind to meet Camille's petrified eyes.

Caroline was struck with an ice-cold reaction as he completely ignored her presence.

Mystic Falls

Jeremy cleaned the glasses with an eye on Enzo, the vampire was carelessly enjoying a beer and apparently retreated to this quiet zone, nonetheless he looked slightly back as a small group came inside of The Grill.

So did Jeremy that didn't recognize anyone, he dropped the cloth and slowly reached under the counter to a crossbow that he kept there.

"Hi, I would like five beers please." A tall girl asked as the rest of the group settled by a pool table.

Jeremy pulled his hand away from the crossbow and smiled, as he went for the beers the girl looked at Enzo who winked at her, she blushed with an awkward smile and took the beers with her.

"Trouble just walked in." Enzo whispered as he brought his beer closer to his lips.

"I know." Jeremy responded as low and rested his hand over the hidden weapon again.

There was movement by the door but this time the face was familiar and Jeremy didn't know exactly how to respond to it.

"Hey..." Bonnie had high hopes that he wouldn't be the first face that she encountered in town but she still had a decent reaction and her smile was honest.

"You are here because of April." Jeremy deduced, although it was irrational that she would already know what he only told Matt so far.

"What about April?" she asked confused.

Jeremy inched closer to the counter and by addition a little away from Enzo. "She might be pregnant but I'm not sure yet... I know that this is hard for you but it wasn't planned at all. We were careful the first times..."

Bonnie closed her eyes and held her hands in front of her face making him stop. "I need a really stiff drink for this."

"Bonnie... I..." Jeremy felt so ham-fisted.

Enzo looked at the pretty girl. "Aren't you Rebekah's friend and the one dating her brother Kol?" he lessened his eyes holding the beer and tilting the bottle at Bonnie.

"Yes I am." she could only guess he was Enzo. "Where is Rebekah?"

"Fetching for jewelry." Enzo chuckled and exchanged looks between Bonnie and Jeremy. "This makes daytime TV look tedious."

"You're sleeping with Kol?" Jeremy retorted with an incredulous question.

Bonnie faced him with a stinging grin. "Don't worry, I'm not pregnant yet."

Her ex-boyfriend nauseatingly judged her with a revolted look but it actually said a lot of where Bonnie was in her life when it didn't affect her at all.

She chose to not even keep looking at Jeremy and as she took her eyes to the mirror she caught the girl in the group by the pool table assembling something, she widened her eyes recognizing the piece as the same John used to take down the vampires and turned fast but only to gasp with a knife that was swiftly rested against her throat.

Enzo reacted first but as Bonnie suspected the inaudible sound that the artifact reproduced made Enzo scream and clutch his head before he painfully passed out.

Jeremy pointed the crossbow at the man threatening Bonnie but that only made the other go move behind her and press her to him, the blade pierced enough to make her hiss and Jeremy jumped over the counter alternating his aim between the man and the rest of the group that came near them.

"That's brave of you but this party is only starting so I'd save the bullets for later." The girl said and injected Vervain into Enzo's body to keep him unconscious.

Jeremy kept his weapon on the man holding Bonnie close to him.

"Put that thing down." The man ordered Jeremy.

He didn't budge an inch unlike the man who was ready to slice Bonnie's throat.

"Do what he tells you." Bonnie asked Jeremy with a scowl.

He grimaced with her lack of trust but she looked unwavering at him, the small silent conversation that they had was a clear statement that she never really trusted him, just like he didn't trust she would never hurt him despite her magic being so out of control the last time that they saw each other.

The door burst open and Matt came inside carrying Rebekah, like Enzo she was unconscious and Matt stopped as soon as he came in.

The girl leading the small coven spoke. "We know that you were looking for a necklace and I would like to have it now."

"I didn't find anything." Matt left Rebekah on a pool table and stood in front of it with bravery.

The girl sighed and looked behind him waiting for the rest of her witches to arrive, two men came in with another unconscious girl, immediately Jeremy turned his crossbow to them because they had Elena.

She was left on the table next to Rebekah and Matt tried in vain to fight the men, he ended up under an arm-lock and struggling for balance as one of the Travelers handled him with skill.

"Let her go, get away from her." he begged the leader that neared Elena.

She smiled placing her hands on each side of Elena's head and under a spell Elena began to bleed from her nose and then her mouth.

"Stop!" Jeremy shouted scared for his sister's life.

The witch looked at Jeremy and with a single squint an invisible power forced him to turn the crossbow at Matt and even fighting forcefully against it he pulled the trigger, the man holding Matt turned him to receive the flying spear.

Matt choked on blood instantly as he was hit in the belly, Jeremy dropped the weapon in shock and Bonnie tried leaving the restrain of the man still holding her but he just hurt her by moving the blade and resting the sharp tip of it just under her chin, obviously they were trained and knew what they were doing.

The Travelers searched Matt's clothes for the necklace and left him bleeding on the floor as they got what they came here for, they handed the necklace to their leader and waited for instructions.

"Kill them all and then burn the place." she looked at Bonnie. "Bring a hostage just in case." she said coldly.

They began to trash the Pub, bottles were shattered and Bonnie was taken as the obvious hostage, there wasn't much Jeremy could do about it and the Travelers began to beat him up.

As they neared the exit, Bonnie closed her eyes slamming the front door shut using her powers.

The leader turned to her surprised. "There was a witch among us and you were so shy about it?" she paced towards Bonnie quickly and stopped inches away from her face. "Why is that?"

Bonnie opened her eyes to reveal all the black in them. "Timing is everything." she smiled shattering everything that was glass inside of The Grill.

Everyone shielded from the flying cutting pieces but her, the leader and the man still holding her hostage, Bonnie touched the woman's face and the leader felt her throat close up, she struggled for air and began to choke.

She was about to collapse and irritated the man behind Bonnie wheeled the knife with knowledge, he was about to plunge it into her heart when he was hit with a single shot in the back, he fell to the floor dead and Bonnie sighed turning around to meet Kol who just came in from the back door.

"The shotgun was not where Caroline said that it would be, she has a very big house for a Forbes." he grumbled upset that it took him so long to find the Sheriff's arms locker.

Bonnie smiled and didn't flinch an inch as he slid a leaver underneath the pump-action shotgun making the used cartridge pop out and a new one go into place, he aimed right at her and the shot went right next to her head and into the leader of this coven who was trying to stab Bonnie from behind.

Kol neared Bonnie gently stroking her face, her eyes returned to normal when he leaned over kissing her forehead but there wasn't time to indulge in perfect encounters because there was still a fight happening around them.

Enzo's blood finally healed him and he took out the men harming Jeremy with a nasty appetite while Kol took the necklace from the dead girl's hand.

Bonnie knelt next to Matt and tried to close up his wound using her magic but by now Elena was already awake as well and freaking out massively.

"Matt! Oh God, Matt..." she was a mess of emotions as she began to cry.

"Stop crying and give him your blood." Rebekah sat on the table rubbing her head, it was bad enough to wake with a headache, she couldn't handle a dramatic Elena as a bonus.

"Damon was right..." Elena bit into her wrist. "Everywhere you go, death is right there, our lives will never be the same because of you." she looked at Kol and then at Rebekah. "Your family has ruined our lives forever and this will never end..." she nested Matt on her lap and started to feed him with her blood.

Enzo dropped another dead witch and gave Elena a side look, he was having a hard time believing that Matt traded a woman like Rebekah for... that.

"Don't fret Elena." Rebekah jumped from her table with a regal shake of her hair. "I don't intend to ever return to this distressing town."

Elena looked at Bonnie as the Originals left with Enzo. "Are you sure that this is what you want?" Elena asked Bonnie taking into consideration every conversation that they had since she came back to life. "Because you need to choose..." Elena stated an ultimatum. "If you leave with them, you need to keep them out of this town so that we can try to have a normal life... I only have Jeremy and Matt now, don't bring the Mikaelsons here so that I end up losing them as well. I don't have anyone else." Elena's voice was straining with tears.

However Bonnie started struggling with hers as well, she looked at Jeremy coughing blood and barely able to sit straight, she looked at Matt pale and with a bad wound and then at Elena with nothing but hurt. "How many times have I been the one left on the floor bleeding Elena? I lost everyone as well and every single one of our friends who left this town, left because there was nothing left in them to give you."

Elena shook her head. "If you leave Bonnie, don't come back. I don't want any of you to come back... I chose as well, I chose my brother over Damon and I told him the same I'm telling you now, the only way to keep Jer safe is to keep you all away from here."

Bonnie stood without a word and left The Grill, there was a massive breakdown brewing inside of her but she only unleashed it when she saw Kol waiting for her by the car, she went to him with a small race and hid against his chest, then she cried in his arms heartbroken.

Klaus had his drink calmly but he was drinking alone which was not nice, he took an empty glass and poured the expensive light-yellow liquor into it. "You should join me O'Connell, this might be your last drink."

Camille remained where she was, on the far end of the counter with Caroline.

Klaus pushed the glass with his finger. "Drink." he unemotionally demanded.

"Marcel won't come, he is not stupid." she said instead of taking the glass.

Klaus left his stool and took the glass, he slammed it down on the counter right in front of Camille. "I said, drink."

Caroline cut his direct vision to Camille by stepping closer to him, she took the glass and emptied it. "There." she dropped the empty glass on the counter. "Now go back to sulking on that side of the bar." He smiled but the cruelty of it was that she knew that he was being sadist.

"Why are you still here sweetheart?"

Caroline kept her tough face regardless of his choice of words. "You lost your memory as well? I don't walk out when my friends are in danger."

"Ummm..." he mused. "It's a good day to go out and make new friends, since this one has an expiration date."

Caroline smiled taking another step to stand closer to him. "Camille walks out of here unharmed, it's not her fault that her idiot boyfriend can't use his brain."

"That's not what you were telling her in the back alley." he narrowed his eyes.

Caroline crossed her arms. "Of course that you eavesdropped on that."

"Your defense was most endearing."

For the briefest second Caroline saw a glimpse of that smile she loved but he was a bastard as he turned the smile into a dark one.

"If only I cared." he added amused.

Caroline watched him go back to his seat and pour another drink for himself, she trapped a few locks behind her ear and walked over to him resolute. "I know that you are closing up, I expected it to be honest. You've let me in but now that you can't find that security net you are going back to the only security you have, this façade has been such a part of you that you know it too well and it's easier to keep every feeling at bay, even those who aren't about me."

He looked at her very thoughtful. "Is by any chance her psychology contagious? Because she's not very good at it." he whispered before he smirked.

Caroline unfolded her arms. "Fine, stay here drinking but you will have to be a jerk all by yourself because I'm taking Camille home." she took the girl's arm forcing her to move but Klaus cut them off effortlessly by showing up at the door.

"Dr. Google stays." he said with a daunting smile.

"We are leaving." Caroline defied him and his strong smell hit her harshly as he came to stand just inches away from her body.

"Marcel will be here soon and I can't be a good host if I don't deliver what I promised."

"Do whatever you want with Marcel but leave Cami out of this." Caroline asked him in a sweet voice.

He looked down as she touched his arm but he made her vacillate when he lifted his eyes to meet hers, the astounding aloofness in them made Caroline grimace, never had he brushed off her touch like this.

"Perhaps I should just kill her and hand over to Marcel her head when he arrives or offer him her heart... that would be somewhat poetic and relevant."

Caroline's frantic eyes searched for answers but his deep blue eyes were not the same she stared into so many times while making love to him, the words leaving him were not from the same voice that so many times spoke of love in a language that she didn't understand but came to love. "Nik..." she had to take that one last shot and guided her hand to his cheek, she stroked a hard stubble with gentle fingers. "I went after Genevieve, she said something in Bulgarian to me so I did some research and I found out that she comes from a line of royals, it probably means that she's a bigger nemesis that we thought but I've lost count of the ones we've defeated so far and we've done it together so... we could be digging into her life instead of..."

She cut her speech short because foolishly Camille was trying to leave and she saw in Klaus' features that he could listen to it as well, she flashed but so did he, Caroline whooshed in front of Camille at the last second and just the same he stopped at the last second like a macabre choreography.

Caroline held her breath with an improvised stake pressing her skin just above her collarbone, with the slowest move she raised her eyes to his and then gulped down, he was furious and clenching his teeth behind sealed lips. "Don't move Camille." she murmured with the wood painfully scratching her ivory skin.

It was almost impossible to prove that the very spot he had kissed countless times was now open with the slightest trail of blood leaving it as he gripped the stake in his hand with more force.

"Stand aside Caroline." he asked almost inaudible at first.

"I don't want to." she whispered.

"I'm commanding you..." he snarled with a flick into his yellow eyes. "... to stand down."

"Do whatever you want but I will not let you drive a wedge between us so big that it can't be fixed once we heal you from that hex. I will not let you kill another friend of mine." she fiercely said even when he lifted his upper lip to reveal his fangs.

"I will kill her and then I'll hurt you."

She wasn't sure if he meant to keep the yell tamed or if he was just unable to shout that last part of his phrase but she took advantage of it and moved her arm hauling the stake away from her throat. "You will have to do that the other way around because I won't let you do this to her."

"The brave attire will not get you far with me as I see no reason to spare such a meaningless character." he was raging over her blunt defiance.

"Camille will not die today." Caroline courageously threw at his face.

"She means that much to you?" he obviously meant to shout now as there was very little space left between them.

"No." Caroline shouted back at him. "You do!"

Their breaths were fervor within a sweltering moment and honestly one of them had to break away but the heated argument served to prove that Caroline was and would always be his equivalent and if he refused to bow out, she was far from it as well.

"I could come back later." Marcel said from the door analyzing the circumstances.

"Marcellus!" Klaus broke away from Caroline like nothing happened and smiled cheerful at Marcel. "Finally someone to join me for a drink."

Marcel licked his lips glancing once at Camille making sure that she was safe, then he headed over to the stool next to Klaus' and took it. "Will you be serving me poison?"

"Far from it my friend, we've had our fall outs and we've had our grand moments, now we take it all in and share a drink." Klaus held his glass up for a toast. "Let bygones..."

"I don't have a reliable source but I was told that Genevieve released her imagination while playing with you." he easily poked Klaus instead of ending his sentence.

Klaus had a delightful smile with dimples. "The angels tell me that you made a deal with her in exchange for a few supernatural daggers."

"I only needed to immobilize you, she promised me to make you feel actual pain and that was all I wanted so whatever it is that happened after that... I wash my hands from it." Marcel spread his hands. "Much like you did with Davina. What happened to her wasn't your responsibility."

Klaus laughed quietly but eerie. "That lawyer side of yours is really sauntering its way to the picture now."

"My allegations are done, do you have anything to add to yours?"

Klaus crooked his head to the side and shrugged. "You are not paying attention Councillor, I just stated previously that I rest my case." he turned to the counter and started having a drink uninterested if Marcel was staying or not.

The big vampire knew Klaus well and expected a move that would be unforeseen, especially now that Marcel waited for it. "That's it then? Our big dispute ends likes this?"

"Conviction is a luxury for those who win a battle, death is for those who lose it."

"That is why you are alone and I had the blind loyalty of hundreds who believed in me."

"I like to see myself as a lone hybrid but then again, that might just be because no one likes me." Klaus pursed his lips with a big smile.

Marcel turned on his stool finding Caroline with very little sympathy for him which he was expecting but not the disconnection between her and Klaus. "Why are you so bleak today?"

"Don't tell me that you don't know what the crazy red-haired did." she jeered at him.

"I thought that it was a joke, I still do." The faintest mean smile crossed his features before he whooshed to Caroline and grabbed her face.

She slapped his hand away. "Don't touch me."

When he felt that Klaus didn't so much as cringe he forcefully took her neck and slammed her on top of a table, he kept her trapped under his strong hand and looked at the mirror in front of Klaus but the hybrid quietly had his drink like he wasn't even there.

Caroline wriggled fighting Marcel who kept her pinned down. "Let go of me!" she demanded.

After a thoughtful squint Marcel pulled her back to her feet, he held her close to his chest this time and his bulky arm started choking her as he squeezed it around her neck. "My vampires would have loved the chance to give back all that hate that you nurtured for my community but I'll make them justice." he tossed her around.

She went flying across the bar and all the air inside of her chest expelled as she hit the wall hard but Marcel was there to press her against the wall and Caroline snarled really angry at him, he resumed to smiling but Camille's uncontrollable crying was disturbing at this point.

It was the catalyst for Caroline who remembered why Camille wasn't moving. "Cami..." she faced Marcel with hatred as she said the next words. "Take off your ring and go outside."

Marcel gasped looking at the door as Camille began to yell under the light of a hot sunset.

"She's sired to me, so take your hands off me if you want her to live." Caroline said under a growl.

"Camille baby, come back inside." Marcel urged with no effect.

Klaus kept drinking like he was alone in the bar while all the commotion took place.

Marcel sneered on Caroline's face but Camille had little time so he opened his hand setting her free. "I'll be claiming your heart soon."

Klaus left his stool unruffled, he popped the collar of his leather coat and pulled Camille inside, the ceasing of her horrific screams stopped but when Marcel and Caroline looked at Klaus he tossed a heart their way.

"Perhaps you should start with that one." he shocked them completely.

Caroline covered her mouth shaking while Marcel roughly came closer to Camille's body, he slumped to his knees in disbelief.

In the midst of all the jarring reactions and immune to it, Klaus walked away.

Elijah had to interrupt his most serious conversation with one of Klaus' hybrids because Caroline stormed inside of the house visibly troubled, he raised his hand stopping the talk and went quickly up the stairs after her, it was an odd image to find Caroline furiously pulling the sheets from the bed and throwing them across the bedroom along with the pillows.

"Caroline..." he could only assume that she was desperately trying to get rid of Klaus' memory.

She was in tears as she sat on the naked mattress. "He is out of control Elijah, he is so gone..." she shook her head restlessly. "He went back to what he was before we were together..."

Elijah worriedly knelt in front of her and gently took her arms trying to calm her down. "We are working on getting him back Caroline, I assure you of this much."

"He killed Camille." she said between anxious sniffles. "And when Marcel attacked me Klaus didn't move a hair... he just... sat there."

This worried Elijah but he still tried to appease Caroline. "He spent the night shifting so that he could let his wolf side prevail and therefore evoke his feelings for you. We will get him back soon Caroline."

Caroline torpidly looked at him. "Wolf side?"

Elijah smiled proud of his brother. "He was in control of it after only the first transformations so by the end of the night he was able to shift back whenever he wished and aware of what he was doing while in wolf shape."

"Are you telling me that Klaus is now able to shift into a big deadly wolf and control it as he pleases and that he is on the loose in New Orleans?" she asked him befuddled.

"He..." Elijah met her eyes as the awareness only now hit him. "But he was doing it to break the hex..."

"We need to find him Elijah." Caroline pulled back her inner turmoil and stood up.

It took a little longer for Elijah to react, he had no idea how he missed the obvious or how Klaus was able to maneuver him so well.

The two girls chanted at the same time, they never broke their mantra not even when the other three came into play and joined the spell.

One from the trio took the black salt and spread it over the grave, she closed her eyes calling upon the dark spirits but the scary howling that echoed through the cemetery made her stop. "Did you hear that?" she whispered to the rest of the group.

No one answered focused as they were on the spell and she went back to it as well when nothing but that uncanny silence prevailed again.

"Mother of us all, great spirit of the Earth and gate-keeper grant us..." she uneasily stopped when the howl echoed again, this time it was even closer. "There's something out there." she warned the others.

A very skinny girl with black hair rolled her eyes. "Stop stalling, if Genevieve finds out that we are taking this long to perform a spell she is going to burn another crazy neuron and we all know how she gets when she's not happy."

The other nodded but she was still certain that there was something wrong. "Let's get this over with fast..." she closed her eyes and parted her arms, as she went back to her calling, one of the girls screamed.

She turned with a flinch, the other witch in her coven was horribly screaming and pointing at a grave in front of them, there was a loud shriek in unison because there was a big dark wolf standing on the grave and eyeing them.

When he parted his lips, the biggest intimidating teeth appeared and then a growl so bloodcurdling that they all yelled in trepidation before they shot in a race across the graveyard.

The majestic wolf launched on a hunt and sank his teeth hard on the first leg that he found, he was done with that body in a matter of seconds and went after another girl.

As the one that had heard him first raced for her life, she heard the rest of her coven being murdered ruthlessly but she didn't stop to look back, she kept running and threw herself against the closed iron gate.

She struggled with chains that were not there before, they had left the only exit of the cemetery open, she was sure of it, just like she was sure that the wolf now walking to her with a fur covered in blood was the man they had helped Genevieve keep trapped under a spell on the old hospital.

She slid down the door crying compulsively and looked at the wolf now pacing in front of her, on a taunting right to left pattern.

"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry for what she did to you." she whispered in hopes that that would make him stop.

He sauntered his teeth and eyed her with big evil blue eyes before he attacked her, her terrified screams were like a doomed lullaby filling the old cemetery in a quiet pitch dark night.
