Cries. Yells. Screams.
Panic.
Bonnie was trying to jump from the front seat to the backseat to give Elena her first aid; Jeremy was trying to support Elena's head as Jenna and Damon desperately tried to shake Elena awake. Her body was limp as Damon tried to support her head, frantically trying to wake her up again.
Stefan started to panic, nearly losing control of the vehicle. He swung the car to one side and one to the side of the road.
"Keep going!" Damon roared, "Maple Street! Mystic Falls, Maple Street!"
Stefan nodded his head and pushed the car back in to full speed, keeping a steady hand on the wheel this time and trying to give as much stability as possible to those in the back.
"Elena, wake up! Please just wake up!" Damon pleaded desperately as panic overwhelmed him.
How could they ever arrive on time? A tear slipped down his cheek. He knew vampire speed. There was no way they were going to get Hayley out of this alive if she was being attacked or chased by Klaus.
No! His baby girl wasn't going to die! Not as long as he was alive. He had to get her! He had to tell her that he loved her more than life itself. He had so many plans for her and his family!
"Elena, wake up!"
"No," Klaus roared, "NO!"
He was kneeling on the floor now, after trying to vampire-speed to get to Hayley. But it had been too late. He'd watched with his very own eyes as the girl screamed before crashing to the floor in an ear piercing crash of flesh connecting to the wooden floor.
"Hayley, no, Hayley!" Klaus screamed as he tried to turn her around, but fear overwhelmed him as he saw that the beautiful brown haired girl was now nothing except a huge stain of blood.
"Oh God…" Klaus yelled desperately as he tore into his wrist without second thought and held the little girl in his arms, urging her to drink. "Please, Hayley. Drink, your father's got you. I've got you, sweetie. I'm so, so sorry…"
"Lara! Jennifer! Christina!" He yelled the names of the servant girls who could remember, "Help me!"
The three girls appeared quickly, but started to scream as they saw Hayley on the floor, now violently repelling the blood Klaus had given her. Her breathing was almost non-existent and the colour was draining from her face.
"Help me!" He told them, "Now!"
The girls had no choice and they helped hold Hayley down as she suddenly started to jump, almost as if in a fit. For the first time in a lot of years; Klaus panicked. He kept trying to heal Hayley. He wasn't going to give up on her!
He turned around only to see one of his personal witches, Davina.
"Help me," He begged her.
"I thought you wanted her dead," She told him as she remained passive. "If you save her, you might not be able to kill her yourself in later years. Don't you think it will be for the best, if you let Hayley die naturally instead of having to murder her and live with the guilt?"
"Help her!" Klaus roared, "Please! Help her!"
Davina sighed. "As you wish, master."
She put her hands on the baby's tiny stomach and chanted unrecognizable Latin words. Light formed out of her hands and into Hayley's tiny body, repairing and strengthening the bones.
Klaus held his breath the entire time until Hayley started to breathe again, a loud cry escaping her little lips.
"Oh, thank God," Klaus cried out as he tried to pull Hayley in his arms, however the girl didn't move. Instead, she let out another cry when he tried to touch her.
"Leave!" Klaus ordered the others. "All of you! Get out."
"You're welcome," Davina told him venomously as she scurried off along with the others.
"Hayley bells," He tried.
"No," Hayley cried, tears falling down her cheek and onto his wrist, "D-Daddy called me Hayley Bells. You-You is a monster!"
"No, Hayley, I'm not a monster," He told her as she tried to crawl away from him.
"You, you hurt Hayley. Hayley fell!"
"Hayley, I'm not going to hurt you," He told her, reaching out to touch her hand.
"I want my mommy…" She wailed, "I want my daddy…"
"Your daddy's here. I'm your daddy, Hayley."
"No! You no daddy! Pwease, take me to mommy!"
"Hayley please…"
"You is a monster! You want to kill Hayley!"
At that, Klaus froze. How did she know that? How special was this child to know all of this, and to speak incredibly well for her age? She was completely incredible and unlike anything he thought she would be.
"No, Hayley, I'm not going to hurt you," He begged her. "I'm just going to take care of you. You'll be living with me from now on, okay? I'll give you a lot of bears and dolls and chocolate…"
"You are?" Hayley's eyes lit up. "Dolls and bears?"
"And chocolate and gummies," He added. "Will you stay with me?"
There was a moment of silence, and Klaus smiled, knowing that he had won her over.
"No," She told him, pushing him away with all her might. "If you my daddy, you'll take me back to mommy."
"That's not going to happen," Klaus hissed. "You're my daughter, and Elena and Damon are gone."
"Gone?" Hayley's lips wobbled.
His eyes softened a little, before hardening again. "Yes. They are gone. They don't want you anymore."
The little girl cried and thrashed around in his hold, trying to crawl away from him. "No, you're lying!"
"You've been a naughty girl and they don't want you," Klaus added.
"Mommy and daddy love Hayley!" She screamed at him, her voice powerful for someone her age. "You don't! You want to kill Hayley!"
Klaus groaned, grabbed the girl and in an instance, he had her in her crib once again. "When you decide to be good, I'll let you out to play with dolls."
"Elena!"
Elena was forced back to consciousness, rubbing her head. The others breathed out a sigh of relief as Elena immediately recalled what had happened. She tried to sit up but groaned in pain. Damon noticed and gathered her up and into his arms, holding her small body close to his chest as he petted her hair gently.
"Thank God," Damon cried out, "Please just stop fainting on me!"
"I saw him, Damon. I saw Klaus's vampire face and Hayley running…he was hunting her!" She cried against his chest, "He was chasing her! She looked so scared! She was begging me for help!"
"Shh, shh," He hushed her, "Stefan knows where Maple Street is, okay? We'll find her!"
"Find her?" Elena cried even harder, "He was chasing her, Damon! By the time we get there Hayley will be dead!"
"No, don't say that, don't you dare!" Damon shook her roughly before pulling back when he realized he could hurt her. "She'll be fine."
"I can't e-even feel her anymore," Elena cried out, "He killed her…He killed m-my b-baby…"
"No, he didn't, Elena, he didn't!" Damon begged her to believe, to have some faith. "He didn't!"
"Oh God…She must've been in so much pain…"
"Shh, shh, hush, hush…"
"She's dead, Damon. Can't you see? She's dead. We are going to go to Mystic Falls to find a dead body. She's a baby! It's obvious that he caught up with her with his speed! Can't you understand, Damon? Our daughter's dead!"
"Elena, our daughter is special!" Damon insisted, "Our baby's strong!"
He let Elena cry in his shirt as the other people in the car shed their tears; not able to move.
"Just please stop this pain…Please…"
"Shh, shh," Damon said, his own tears soaking her hair. He knew this was a losing battle. He knew that there was no way Hayley could've escaped the thrill of the vampire chase.
Not even faith was going to help them…He knew that Elena was probably right. The only thing the only thing waiting for them was death.
"Why did you make me save her?"
Klaus was playing with the drink in his hand when the young witch entered the living room.
"Go away, Davina."
"She was dead, Klaus. The first part of the ritual would've been completed without any efforts."
"I said, go away!"
"You care about her, Klaus," Davina insisted, "You don't want to harm your child."
"I'm just going to keep her here until she's old enough, and then I'll do it myself," Klaus tried to convince her.
"You told me last night that you couldn't wait any more-"
"I changed my mind. Now shut up before I kill you instead."
"Let her go, Klaus. Do the right thing, then," Davina encouraged. "You could've let her die, but you didn't. You let your humanity show, do it again."
"Her family is dead."
"Are you really sure about that, Niklaus?" Davina told him. "Do you honestly think that Elena didn't survive the explosion you made Bree do?"
"If Elena was alive, she would've been long here," He added. "They are all dead. I have Hayley for myself."
"Keep telling that to yourself, Klaus."
"Why? Do you know anything I should know about Elena and the others?"
"No," Davina told him. "But I observe, Klaus. After all this time, Elena has always managed to find a way to return to her baby. This time it won't be any different."
"Elena's dead," Klaus told her again.
"As I said before, you can keep telling that to yourself."
"Do you think it's right? That Damon took Hayley away from me and raised her as his?"
"Damon didn't take anyone away from you, Niklaus. You were the one who raped Elena. You were the one who nearly killed her. You were the one who wanted to kill Hayley. It was you who kidnapped Elena again, trapped her in a foreign island and broke her. It was all you. Damon was playing the part you should've played in your daughter's life. This could've been done differently, Klaus. You should've loved Elena the way she used to love you. You should've given up about the stupid curse a long time ago and focused on the ones who loved you instead!"
Klaus wanted to scream at her, to yell, but he knew that she was right. Instead, he dismissed her angrily.
"You can dismiss me all you want, Niklaus, but if you kill Hayley, I can guarantee that you will never find happiness again."
Hayley played with her little finger as she laid in the dark in her crib. Even though the pain was gone now, she felt really tired. She knew that Klaus wasn't her father and that he was there to hurt her and her family, and she also knew that her parents were alive and looking for her. She could feel the connection she had with her mother; yet somehow her mother wasn't feeling her.
Hayley swallowed thickly, fear taking over her. Was her mom giving up on her? Why wasn't she sensing her distress? Hayley had always sensed Elena's distress, from day one, the only different thing was that she had been too young to talk. She had always tried to protect her mom, but somehow her daddy Damon always mistook her cries as a sign of hunger or tummy ache-He couldn't understand her, until she had started to draw.
But now, things were different. She could feel her mom, but her mom wasn't paying any attention to her. It was like Elena was losing hope.
Hayley tried to focus on her mother, trying to show her that she was in distress. By now Hayley had learnt that Elena responded to her when she was in great pain, sadness or fear.
"Mommy…" She cried out. "Mommy!"
She didn't want to stay with Klaus anymore. She wanted her mom and dad. That was all she wanted now.
"Hayley," Elena shot up from the seat, with Damon crouching forwards, startled.
"She's trying to communicate with me, Damon," Elena told him, her sadness and fear turning into hope. "Hayley, baby…We are coming for you, do you understand? Hold on, baby."
Elena smiled at Damon, tears in her eyes, "She can sense me, Damon, and so can I! We'll be there soon, sweetheart!"
Damon longed to believe her, but somehow something was keeping him back, and the fact that she was still wearing her sunglasses made him even question everything, because usually he could look in her eyes and read her like an open book.
"Please, Stefan…Are we there yet?"
"In about an hour and a half," Stefan replied quickly, "I'm doing the best I can…"
"Just please, drive faster," Elena begged him, "Please."
She had to know if her baby was safe. To hold her again and tell her she loved her. To be a family again was all she wanted. And she was going to kill Klaus for even daring to lay a hand on her beautiful baby girl.
"This is it," Bonnie screamed as soon as they saw the "Welcome to Mystic Falls" sign. "This is it!"
"Oh my God," Elena exclaimed, straightening her back as she tried to focus on the world around her, however she wasn't seeing nearly anything except for shadows.
"There it is," Stefan pointed at a particular street, "That is Maple Street."
