Deceiver: This is our, Tsunderes-and-Cats and my, RP that came after we talked over on Kido's love on kitty cats. Someone requested when I mentioned it on Tumblr sometime ago…but forgot who…I seriously need to update my request list "OTL

Warning: This is a really pointless fluff with Kano being totally unreasonable because of Kido and cats.

Cold Jealousy, Warm Affection

~.~.~.~.~

This shouldn't be causing so much concern. It was a normal occurrence. Kano could get grumpy over little things, getting silly even, and wouldn't come home for a day or two. Occasional texting to check up on him would be enough to know how he was and know how much he calmed down, yet lately it hadn't been enough.

Kido sighed after, again, not receiving a reply from her close blond friend and had officially confirmed he turned off his phone. Stuffing her phone into her pocket, she made her way back home. She didn't really like going out at night; that was more of Kano's thing. But because of his stupid habit of getting upset easily and leaving to let himself sulk, she had to look for him.

To start off how this all happened, it was when Seto had informed the gang a stray kitten had snuck into their base and kept herself warm under the heater in the middle of winter. The feline's tiny body with golden fur made her heart stop in its track, catching her full attention to the point she had to pet her. She did try to stop (her word as the leader of the Mekakushi-Dan), but whenever she tried to leave, the kitten would meow at her to come back.

It took a lot of convincing, but they decided to take her in, at least till winter ended. Kido became the kitten's caretaker, which she didn't mind and she ignored everyone's comments on her likes on small animals. She kept the kitten close to her at all times, feeding her, petting her, loving her, as if she was her own child.

She was even happier when another one appeared. A tiny black cat was right in front of her when she got home. Kido thought Seto had found another one snuck in or he thought it was a horrible day for this cat to be out during winter too. Kido didn't mind, it was like she was getting spoiled.

She really was happy at first, until while looking after the two felines did something happen. Kido had the golden kitten resting on her lap and she was petting her soft fur, but right after a moment the black cat had pounced on them and literally shoved the kitten off her lap, surprising and upsetting Kido.

"No!" How could a bigger, older cat get jealous so easily over a small weak kitten? Kido gave him a stern look before giving him a swift slap on the head. What happened next was something she didn't expect, or should have really, because the next thing she knew was the black cat on her lap turned into something…or someone else.

"Kano!?"

And that pretty much lead to her searching the blond afterwards. He had left without a word after his façade faded away. No joking or teasing remarks, just glaring at Kido once he got off her before she could scold him. His expression bewildered the greenette a lot, having not seen him make such a face since they were young.

She had given it some thought, trying to think why Kano looked like that. She thought she had the answer, but thought it was silly until Seto and Mary expressed how worried they were after hearing what happened. They understood he wasn't trying to play a prank on her to begin with, more like he was jealous.

"Idiot…" she grumbled into her red vest, trying to keep warm. It was the end of winter, yet it was still unbelievably freezing. Two days and he still wouldn't return home. And by the time he came back, she was likely to have a sick liar in her hands.

She entered the quiet street that lead to her base, shivering as she hurried up. Grabbing her keys from her pocket, Kido was about to reach for the door until she paused and looked back. Staring at the alley between an old building and the apartment, she quietly stepped back to peer into it. Kano was huddled against the wall, shivering as he tried to warm up. Kido stared at him, feeling the anger of making her worried and doing something so stupid boiling up as she marched towards him. But by the time she reached him, she threw her arms around him before he could even react.

"Never do that again," she said before he could say anything. "Quit making me worry about you, idiot."

There was silence between them. Kano didn't even move to return the hug. "You worry more on your cat anyway…" he said.

"How long have I known that cat?" She couldn't believe he was still that envious. "That's right, only for a month. You? More than ten whole years." Pulling back, she forced him to look her in the eye. "You are worth more to me than a cat. She's a cat. You're my friend. And my family."

He didn't say anything, frowning still. "You just say that now when I get all fussy," he grumbled.

She rolled her eyes. "Well, it's hard to tell when you're using your Eyes all the time."

He flinched at the words, moving away from her before curling himself up again. Kido gave him a look, seeing this was as honest and vulnerable Kano could get right now. Moving closer to him, she placed her hand on his shoulder. "C'mon, don't be like that."

"I don't want to go home," he murmured softly, trying to shrug Kido's hand off him. "I don't want these Eyes anymore. I want to be a cat."

She gave him an incredulous look. "You're seriously jealous over a cat?"

"For as long as I've know you, you've always like cats," he went on. "If I was a cat, you would like me more."

"Would I?" she sat back with a sigh. "If you were a cat, you wouldn't get any chocolates from me on Valentine's Day."

"But I would get hugs and all the attention you would give to a cat. And even when other's protested, you insisted on keeping it."

"Well, if you were a cat, you wouldn't be able to eat anything I cook. You wouldn't be able to snatch my iPod from me or walk in on me in the shower."

That seemed to have gotten him to look up. "You can still feed me, and I can still snatch your iPod and walk in on you I think."

"If you were a cat you'd be near death now."

He blinked. "Why?"

"Cats don't live that long," she told him. "I'd spend more time mourning your death than enjoying life."

"Well…if I was a cat, you would still be happier with me around then how I am right now," he tried. "I won't lie, you'll smile more and…"

"I can't marry a cat."

That stopped him right in his track. Kano stared at Kido in shock, couldn't think up a witty response. "Ahaha. Good one, Kido. Very funny."

"I'm serious." She couldn't believe she was admitting her feelings just so then he would stop throwing a tantrum. "I can't love a cat like I love you."

He stopped laughing. "You really prefer me over a cat?"

She sighed. "Of course."

"Then will you give me that attention you give to the cats?"

She crossed her arms. "Is that what you want?"

"Yeah…" he nodded. "Every single day like how you love that cat. Every time you see it you hug it or smile at it, I want that."

"Even if I kiss the cat in the middle of the night, do you expect me to come running to your room to give you a kiss?"

"Yes. Or at least a hug. Or maybe let me sleep with you."

That made her face red, moving away from him. "Y-You can't sleep in my bed!" she stuttered. "We're sixteen and we bought you that bed for a reason, you know!"

"Pleeeeeeeeeeease…" he went after her and before she knew it he had his arms around her, his face pressed against her shoulder.

"J-Just once a week then," she tried to shove him off. "You can sleep in my bed once a week."

"Why only once a week?" he looked up at her. "Is it because of the cat?"

"The cat doesn't sleep with me every day! She only slept with me twice!"

"Then can't I sleep with you twice a week?" he whined. Kido rolled her eyes, not bothered to take this. Before she could retort, she was interrupted with a…

"Ah…ACHOO!" the blond pulled back, rubbing his nose. "Excuse me."

Thinking this was a good place to stop already, Kido dragged Kano up onto his feet. "Let's get you home."

He didn't look please, but they both knew he had no choice to say no. "'Kay…"

~.~.~.~.~

Kano let Kido drag him back home, not bothered to argue anymore if it meant getting out of the cold for now. As they made it into their base, they both heard a familiar meow. The blond saw the smile forming on Kido's lips at once as she picked the golden fur kitten up. "How can you get jealous of this?"

He grumbled. "You smile at it once it says hi, that's one."

"How could you not smile at a face like hers?" she turned to him with a frown.

"It's a girl?" he asked, not as interested.

"Yes, she's a girl." She lifted the kitten up to his face, forcing him to take a good look. "Isn't she cute?"

He gave a look, and the kitten meowed. "Maybe…but wasn't I cute when I turned into a cat?"

"Yeah, you were cute too," the reply was monotone, though he didn't say anything on it.

"I'm taking some meds and going to bed," he walked away, only to be caught by the wrist.

"I'm not done yet," she said, and Kano turned back with a bored look.

"What's not done?"

"I still need to talk to you."

"What is it?" He didn't have all night.

"You're being unreasonable." She dragged him to her room. "You're sleeping in my bed tonight."

That was unexpected. "Didn't think you would really allow it!" he cooed.

"Here's the catch. The cat's sleeping in the same room with us."

"What?" He immediately tried to tug his wrist back from her firm grip. "I'm sorry, I didn't hear that." She didn't answer until she took him to her room and shoved him in.

"You heard me."

"Why? I might squish her!" he tried to make her reconsider. It was either he goes or the cat goes.

"No, you won't," she glared, effectively shutting him up that this discussion was over. Kano pressed his lips together firmly, before giving up and obediently sat on her bed in defeat. While he took off his boots and just crawl under the blankets, Kido had let the small cat go and watched her run off to her bed to hide below it. Sighing she went over to the wardrobe to get change into her pyjamas behind its doors.

"Come on, Kano, can you stop it already?" she said as she got into bed with him. He didn't reply to her, turning over to face the wall. "Kano, look at me."

"No."

"Look at me, Shuuya.,"

He groaned and turned over, hating every moment of this. "What is it, Tsubomi?"

"Get away from that wall and come closer," she said, brushing off his tone. "If you want to be like that, I'll really treat you like a cat."

Did he want that? …Not exactly. He did want the attention but it wouldn't be how he wanted it. Without a word, he moved closer to her.

"Better." Kido she sighed, tucking herself in. "Now are you mad at me?"

He glanced away. "No."

"Liar."

"I'm not…" he didn't want to talk about this.

"Stop it!" She poked his cheeks. "Look, if you don't have the ability to make me smile like the cat does, it's not my fault."

He gave a huff. "When we were little, I could…" though he had to be a cat to do so, and sometimes pretended to be something else like Ayano when she wasn't with them. "Tried it again and that didn't work." He sighed. "Honestly, Kido, every time I say something to make you laugh, it back fires with you glaring and hitting."

"That's because you shoved the kitty off to get me to pay attention to you." She flicked at his forehead. "And let's just say you have a bad sense of humour…"

"It must be easy for a cat then to make you happy," he grumbled.

This wasn't going to get them anywhere if he kept on referring to the cat. Rolling her eyes, she changed to subject. "Then tell me what makes you happy."

He shifted a bit. "I'm happy if Kido is happy…" he said lowly, without any confidence that would change much.

Surprisingly though, she let out a small laugh. "And I like that sweet side of you."

He looked up at her, confused. "What sweet side?"

"You said if I'm happy, it'll make you feel the same." She snuggled into her blankets, getting closer to Kano. "What makes me happy is that you think about others like this, not from doing those stupid things you do today." Her eyes soften. "You really don't do that much, only joking around and dismissing the things you say all the time. I really hate it."

They stared at each at other, Kano's eyes growing wider by the second as he took this in. "Even if I am not a cat and do all of that again, will you be happy."

She nodded. "Of course."

That sounded hard, but he guessed he could try. With a nod, they both cuddled up to each other, Kano hugging her. "Good."

He remind silent for a while. "You know, we haven't slept like this in a long time…"

"It is a cold night and if you don't do anything, I won't mind."

"If you say so," he let out a smile.

She giggled a little. "You're a lot easier to cuddle with than the cat," she hummed.

That made him proud of himself. "And the cat? Where is she sleeping

"She's at the bottom of the bed."

"You're really not cuddling her?"

"I'm cuddling you tonight," she reassured. "Tonight, all my attention is for you."

Now he was really happy. "Okay! Good…huh?" He felt something brushing at the top of his head. Looking up, he saw the small kitten sitting on the top of his pillow. "Hey!" She wasn't going to ruin his moment with Kido now, was she!?

Instead, Kido rolled over to pet her, laughing. "Looks like she likes you," she said.

He stared at them, puffing his cheeks in his hands. "Even after I shoved her off?"

"She just wants to be your friend," she reassured as she watched the kitten got closer to Kano, meowing at him. "See?"

He didn't know what to say. Instead, he hesitantly gave it a pat on the head. What he got was another meow and his hand was licked, making Kido smile and look at him smugly.

He blushed at that. "Got any names for her?" He muttered while still petting her soft fur.

She shrugged. "No…"

"I thought you would have named her already," he glanced at her with an eyebrow up.

"I didn't know what to name her," she said calmly. "Do you have a name for her?"

He shook his head, his hand retreating back under the blankets. "Nope." The kitten, not pleased with him removing his hand, crawled closer to him and nuzzled her head against his. Kido watched with a smile. "Oi, what's with her? Being so affectionate," he muttered as the feline continued.

"I told you: she likes you!"

He tried to push the kitten back to Kido, but she just came back anyway. In the end he gave up and let her settle between them.

Kido stared at the two. "Now, she's not so bad, is she?" she asked him. "Can you be friends with her?"

He poked the kitten's fur, only to hear her purr. "I guess I can share," he muttered as he continued. The cat meowed and pretty soon fell asleep. Satisfied, Kido patted him on the head.

"That'll do for now…" she said.

He pouted. "I'm not…a cat…" he couldn't help but yawn.

Stroking his cheek softly, she smiled. "Alright. Good night, Kano."

He nodded. "Good night…"

Even though they weren't hugging anymore, Kido's hand trailed from his cheek to his hand under the blanket. She gave it a light squeeze before dozing off. Kano smiled, squeezing back. It was already warm enough, with their hands linked and the kitten's fur pressed close to their cheeks.

Deceiver: You know, tsunderes-and-cats did write a oneshoton Tumblr and she said she's reminded of this RP when I asked her about it :3

And you know? I want to write a KanoKido oneshot on them getting tattoos…and it's like those ones for couples…anyone got cute ideas on what tattoo they should get other than me using kitties again?
