Unknown location…
Sir Edward took in a deep breath as he got his bearings, using a teleportation spell always did that to him, it annoyed him to no end that a suffered a little motion sickness from performing that spell .
Looking around his surrounding and taking everything in, he knew most people would be intimidated by where he currently stood. The large amounts of fog, and old leafless trees along with the smell of death would make most people weary, not to mention what dwelled in these woods but he knew, and after an incident centuries ago he couldn't help but hope what dwelled in these woods would actually talk to him. Sir Edward let out a laugh when he remembered what the incident was oh well she got what she deserved he thought to himself smiling darkly.
"Best get this over with then" he muttered to himself as he started moving through the lifeless woods.
Eventually he came to a large oak tree in the centre of this area, a large opening in the side of it. Moving confidently, Sir Edward entered the opening that led into a cave, he continued through the darkness until he reached an open area where he knew an old friend of his dwelled. Waiting patiently for what he knew was to come; he decided to amuse himself with a cheery whistle. Not long after he heard movement and a gruff voice ring fourth.
"Who dares enter the home of the mighty Dochraid?"
Sir Edward let out a laugh, Mighty? She surely thinks a lot of her self
Eventually an ugly old woman with burnt out eyes, ratty hair and rotted teeth walked out. Sir Edward stood unfazed as she grabbed his hand and started to smell it only to pull back with a hiss and a growl.
"YOU!"
Breaking the chains that bind him
Chapter 34
Outside Amatas …
Finally were home Morgana thought with a smile, or at least what they were currently calling home. The old rundown castle of Amatas had never been a more welcome sight to the sorceress; she knew her makeshift family would have questions about her and Merlin's disappearance. Something her and her warlock had discussed on the way back, one thing about having dreams that told the future or showed her events that could happen, was that it was a perfect excuse to use for her and Merlin leaving suddenly. They knew Hunith wouldn't appreciate her past experiences with Kanen being aired to everyone in the castle, so instead they would say Morgana dreamed of Kanen capturing Gili and her and Merlin couldn't just let one of their kin be killed. Merlin was unsure Gaius and his father would believe them, but it would at least pull the wool over the others eyes. Plus bringing Gili along with the two girls Anna and Ella, it would prove their journey was at least a good thing, saving three of their kin was something they would never pass up.
But the most important thing was the information they had gained while on this trip, the fact they had found out the knight Sir Edward was magic, and could be the darkness that lurked behind the tyrant Uther was another win for them.
Something Morgana was impatiently waiting for though was to see her sister. It had pained her to leave when Morgause was about to regain memories from a time she knew nothing off, but she had left her in the good hands of Leon at least.
Walking through the entrance to Amatas, Morgana alongside Merlin, Gili, Anna and Ella made their way through the grounds, only to be stopped when Ella started to scream. Turning quickly to see what was troubling the young druid, they saw it was none other than one of the Serkets that currently lived on the grounds, its pincers snapping in the air.
"It's okay Ella" Merlin said trying to calm the girl down, he also notice the look of fear on Anna and Gili's faces , maybe they should have warned them about some of the things they would see in Amatas .
"He's on our side, he won't attack you Ella"
Ella peered up through her large brown eyes at Merlin unsure, it sure didn't look friendly.
Merlin smiled at the small girl, before reaching out towards the Serket and rubbing its leathery claw, the serket purring as he did it.
"Look its friendly, it won't attack you Ella their on our side"
Still not sure about getting close to the giant scorpion, Ella decided to hide behind Merlin. She trusted Emrys that it wouldn't hurt her, but that didn't mean she wanted to be close to it.
Catching something Merlin said, Gili had to ask something.
"What do you mean Their Merlin?"
"Theirs five of them living on the grounds and around Amatas, they understand not to attack anyone, they listen to us" Morgana said answering for Merlin.
Gilis eyes widened in surprise "That's insane, how can you have control over something like that"
"Oh that's nothing" Morgana said looking at Merlin with a grin "you wait till you meet our dragon, you'll just love her"
It was safe to say Gili was speechless.
Dochraid's lair a few nights ago….
"You!"
Sir Edward had to laugh a little at the old hag's reaction to him, even after two hundred years she was still holding a grudge.
"Hello there, it's been a while hasn't it" Sir Edward stated dark grin plastered on his face, it wasn't like the old hag could see anything anyway.
"How dare you of all creatures enter my domain" The Dochraid said with a sneer, her black teeth making Sir Edward a little nauseous.
Sir Edward continued to smile though, the Dochraid's annoyance amusing him
"It's been over two hundred years and we still can't be civil, that does disappoint me"
It was about two seconds later that Sir Edward found himself flying through the air and crashing against the damp wall of the Dochraids cave. Pulling himself to his feet Sir Edward started to laugh again before his demeanour changed, and his true colours came through.
"You know I already took your eyes, it's only that magic of yours I need so don't make me do something you won't like" Sir Edward said his eyes turning dark "say something like taking your legs as well , although it wouldn't make any difference to you as you never leave this cave anyway"
"You are but a mere sorcerer, a sorcerer with a few tricks and illusions" It was the Dochraids turn to smile know "I am a part of this earth, I see what it wants me to see and I know why you have come, I know why you need the help of the Dochraid, for you may have taken my visual sight many lifetimes ago but that is a mere inconvenience when the earth shows me things you'll never know or have the power to see"
Sir Edward kept quite now realising his threats were not intimidating her, maybe it was time to play nice. While he was incredibly powerful, the Dochraid had something he didn't, the gift of sight.
"We may not get along, but we both want the same thing" Sir Edward said, and it was the truth. Both wanted the old ways back , while many people craved the times when the gods of magic walked this earth and harmony rained over it , their where people who wanted the time after that , where magic ruled the realm and the darker side of the old religion crushed anyone who opposed it .
The Dochraid licked her old lips and nodded for Sir Edward to continue and ask what he needed.
"What do you know about Morgana Pendragon?" Sir Edward asked, needing to know if she would be a threat.
The Dochraid smirked at the mention of Morgana Pendragon, something that didn't go unnoticed by Sir Edward.
"It seems a simple ward to the king has you worried" The Dochraid said as she circled Sir Edward "do not worry, you have nothing to fear about the lady Morgana ".
" But I felt a powerful magic , unlike any I had felt before " Sir Edward replied , remembering the power he felt radiating outside Kanens keep "Who else could it have been if not Morgana" he finished more talking to himself then the Dochraid.
The Dochraid started to chuckle causing Sir Edward to throw a glare her way, it was obvious to him she knew something he didn't and she was enjoying that fact.
"It is not the king's ward you fear" The Dochraid said "She was weak, but Morgana Le Fay, Morgana Le Fay is but one half of your doom".
Sir Edward was close to snapping, the old hag seemed to think it was funny to mess him around. "They're the same person- ".
"No" the Dochraid growled interrupting him "Morgana Pendragon was weak, she was a chained dragon, great power shackled much like the one under the tyrant kings castle. But when destiny meets destiny, the shackles come off".
"What destiny? Who did she meet?"
"Why Emrys of course"
Inside Amatas present time …..
It seemed as soon as Merlin and Morgana entered the Amatas castle along-side Gili and the two girls, they were assaulted with hugs and a lot of questions on where they had been, deciding it was best to talk to everyone at once they asked if they could all gather in the throne room .
Since their return Aithusa had not left their side for a second after the baby dragon had laid eyes on her Mother and father. The dragon seemed ecstatic they had made it back in one piece and had almost brought them both to the floor as she jumped on them in her excitement. Thankfully, unlike the Serkets earlier the two young girls had taken to the baby dragon, although Merlin had to wonder if they would think the same when she was the size Killgarrah was.
When everyone had gathered in the throne room, Morgana had asked where her sister was. When Arthur had told her what had happened the night she regained her memories, she had asked Merlin to fill them all in alone on what had happened before rushing off to her sisters room.
Merlin looked around at all the faces in the room who were waiting for him to start , deciding to tell them first the story he and Morgana had devised about her having a dream of Gili being in danger , he then went on to tell them about their capture at the hands of Kanen . He left out the torture he suffered there, mostly for his mother's sake; it wasn't something he really thought she'd want to know about. He then went on to say they had escaped their cells only to be stuck at the entrance due Uther and his knights , not to mention Kanens men being outside , something that piqued Arthurs interest especially .
"Why was my father their Merlin" Arthur interrupted before the warlock could continue
"I was just getting there Arthur if you would just have some patience" Merlin replied before muttering "prat" under his breath.
"What was that Merlin?" Arthur said while sending Merlin a glare
"As I was saying" Merlin said, his lips turned up in a small grin before he carried on. He then told them everything about how Uther had been told of Morgana's capture and had travelled to pick her up and return her to Camelot. He told them about how they had used an invisibility spell to keep themselves in hiding as they made their escape, something Balinor and Gaius seemed incredibly impressed by. When he got to the part about Uther coming out of Kanens keep with Kanens de capitated head, Merlin watched his mother's reaction intently, her facial expression didn't change but he was sure he could see her release a breath she didn't know she was holding.
Merlin then continued on to tell the rest of the story, about how Uther now knew of Morganas magic. That was something that didn't go down to well but Merlin kept on, when he explained the part about Sir Edward though the reaction he got from Arthur wasn't what he expected as the prince started to laugh.
"What's so funny Arthur" Merlin questioned the prince he seemed to find the idea of Sir Edward being an unknown evil in Camelot a joke.
"You and Morgana must have taken a blow to the head Merlin" Arthur chuckled not believing what they were saying.
"And whys that?" Merlin asked in annoyance
"Because there's no way, a bootlicker like Sir Edward could be this big evil lurking in Camelot" The once and future king replied a disbelieving smile now on his face.
" Don't you see Arthur" Gaius said interrupting the prince " the fact no one expects him to be bad is all the more reason to believe what Merlin says is true , not only that he has your fathers ear . Many times he even ignored me and instead listened to Sir Edwards advice"
"Then maybe it was him who put my father up to the Purge" Arthur stated, still hoping there was some sort of hope for his father to be good after all or at least misguided. Arthur turned though as a hand landing on his shoulder, the hand of the dragon lord Balinor.
" Look Arthur , that was nothing to do with Sir Edward" Balinor said before giving the prince a sad smile " While this Sir Edward is up to something , I don't think getting your father to murder people with magic was his idea , if anything it's probably made it harder for him to get on with whatever he's planning. There must be a reason he's stayed in Camelot, most got the hell out of there when the purge started"
Arthur went quite after that, he knew what they were saying made sense, didn't mean he liked it though.
"You say you're sure he saw you as well Merlin or at least sensed you?" Gaius asked, Merlin nodding back. This was something that worried the old man , if Sir Edward worked out that he was sensing Morgana , he was sure the knight would be looking for information , something that could lead back to the destiny Merlin and Morgana shared . Looking towards Balinor, he noticed the dragon lord was deep in thought as well, and if he knew Balinor as well as he thought he did, Gaius knew he would be thinking the same thing, that They needed to start moving forward in their plans and they needed to move fast before Sir Edward or Uther strikes. Luckily Gaius had recently been successful in his research about something that he was sure would greatly help.
"Balinor" Gaius said getting the dragon lords attention "we need to discuss something"
With a nod Balinor followed the old man back towards his chambers, leaving everyone else in the throne room.
With his explanation out the way about why he and Morgana were gone, Merlin decided to introduce his new friends to everyone.
Outside Morgause room present time…
Morgana knocked on Morgause's room door, she was nervous about what she was about to see. The others had explained what had gone on, and the fact Morgause's son, her nephew had been taken at birth.
"Leave please" a croaked voice belonging to her sister echoed from inside the room.
"Sister it's me" Morgana replied.
A few minutes later the door opened, Instead of Morgause, Morgana was greeted by Leon who had a sad smile on his face.
"I'll give you some alone time" Leon said before starting to move around Morgana, only to be stopped by Morgana's hand on his arm.
"I'm sorry Leon" Morgana said with a comforting smile, one that Leon returned along with a nod as he left the room.
As Morgana entered she was immediately met with the sight of Morgause sitting on her bed, her usual pristine appearance replaced with a disheveled looking one. Her eyes were red from where she had recently been crying, her face pale and sickly. Not able to resist, Morgana walked quickly to the bed and brought her sister into a hug. The blonde sorceress bursting into tears as soon as Morgana touched her.
"Well find him Morgause, I promise. No one takes my nephew and gets away with it" Morgana whispered while rubbing her sister back.
"I-I don't know how Morgana, I don't know how to find him" Morgause cried into Morganas shoulder, her blonde hair covering her face.
Morgana's heart was breaking at her sister's state; since knowing her she had always seemed so strong but she was so broken now and Morgana didn't know how to fix it. With everything going on with destinies and prophecies, it was things like this that truly hit close to home, close to the heart. She knew Morgause wouldn't be thinking right after what she had found out, her thoughts only on her missing son and she knew Leon would be the one to comfort her. Morgana knew what her role would be; she would be the one to think straight for her sister.
"What else stood out in your regained memories" Morgana said pulling out of the hug she was sharing with her sister, noticing the unsure look on Morgause face Morgana knew she would have to push her " trust me sister…...do you remember any faces ? Names?" Morgana asked
Morgause looked at Morgana and took in a deep breath to calm herself down "I don't remember any faces, I was in some strange temple or cave I wasn't sure. Everyone around me always had their faces covered and their hoods up"
Morgause sighed sounding defeated before she continued to talk.
"There was one man though, one man who never covered his face and seemed almost out-of-place. Like he was there for a completely different reason"
"Do you remember his name?" Morgana questioned, curious about who this man was.
Morgause nodded sadly "It's hard to forget" Morgause swallowed, trying to quench the dryness in her mouth "His name was Agravaine "
Morgana didn't say anything, her mind working a mile a minute where have I heard the name Agravaine before? It sounds so familiar. Needing more to go on Morgana continued to question her sister.
"What does he look like sister?"
"He had jet black hair and cold eyes, must have been between forty and fifty" Morgause replied unsure why her sister wanted to know so much about this man.
Jet black hair and cold eyes? Forty to fifty years old? Agravaine? As the description Morgause gave her run through Morganas mind, her thoughts instantly went back to a memory of the time she was in Camelot. While she wasn't there for long, as the king's ward she did attend a lot of feasts and while there she was introduced to different royalty and important people from around the kingdoms. She could remember one feast; one Uther had seemed especially keen on going perfect. It was when he had invited his brother-in-law Agravaine De Bois, brother off Uther's deceased wife and Arthur's mother Ygraine. She could remember the cold stares and dirty looks the man gave to most people who served in Camelot; it was obvious the man didn't want to be there. Could it be the same person? Knowing she needed conformation of her suspicions Morgana got off of the bed and started searching the room.
"What are you doing sister?" Morgause asked curiously as Morgana started searching through her cupboards, eventually pulling a bowl out, the same bowl she used to scry for her son. Getting to her feet she quickly walked over to Morgana who had now grabbed a jug of water and was filling the bowl.
"I tried to scry for my son Morgana, it didn't work and I was blocked out of finding him"
"It's not Mordred you're going to scry for Morgause" Morgana replied as she ran her fingers through the water, watching it ripple "you're going to look for this Agravaine"
Morgause shook her head and moved to grab the bowl
"It doesn't work like that Morgana, I need his full name or at least something more than a few fuzzy memories to be able to find him, otherwise it could be any Agravaine that appears in the bowl"
"I have a hunch sister" Morgana said stopping her sisters reached out hand from touching the bowl "I just need you to do the spell for me, as I have only tried it once and that was to see Merlin's face , I don't want to get it wrong " seeing the curious and maybe slightly hopeful look on her sisters face Morgana continued to speak "I can't promise it'll be the same person, but if it is it could help us track down Mordred not to mention whoever this group who took you are"
Morgause nodded not caring if it was a long shot, she would try anything to find her son.
"Give me the name" the blond sorceress asked as she looked into the water.
"Agravaine De Bois" Morgana said as she continued to stare at the water.
Morgause looked from Morgana back to the bowl, while she wanted to know where this name came from; she wanted to find anything that could help find Mordred. Allowing her magic to flow Morgause started to whisper the words of the old religion.
"Scéawung mec hwá ic áscian Agravaine De Bois" and with a flash of her eyes, both Morgana and Morgause watched as the water started to bubble in the bowl. Until it slowly showed a large castle, one she didn't recognize, it then faded to a crest something Morgause did recognize, the crest of the kingdom of Mercia, Bayard's kingdom. It then faded once more to show the face of a man she couldn't forget, the man Agravaine who haunted her memories.
"It's him" Morgause whispered her blood boiling and her anger building
Letting out a small scream in anger, Morgauses magic rippled out smashing the bowl into pieces.
"Morgause" Morgana said softly, while placing a hand on her shoulder "Sister you have to calm down, we need to go and speak to the others about what we've found. I promise well find this man and make him talk, make him tell us everything he knows about Mordred"
Morgause nodded, she knew flying off the handle wouldn't help. When she calmed down though her mouth turned up into a small smile for the first time since finding out her son had been taken. Maybe there was hope finding him after all, looking towards her sister she gently reached out and stroked her cheek affectionately.
"Thank you sister" Morgause whispered.
Inside the Dochraids lair , a few nights ago…
"Emrys?" Sir Edward questioned, a niggling feeling told him he recognized the name.
"You would know of him as a mere fairy tale to most , but the prophecy of Emrys and Le Fay is no fairy tale , is no mere story the Druids would tell when their offspring where scared of the dark and the gold and red crest of Camelot".
It suddenly clicked for Sir Edward, he had been around for so long he had stopped listening to what the Druids would say, it was most probably why when hearing Morgana's second name he hadn't put two and two together. Sir Edward then asked to hear the prophecy again from the Dochraid, Two souls perfect for one another, powers beyond recognition they alongside Arthur Pendragon would bring peace and magic back while creating Albion, creating the golden age of peace.
"Who is the person behind the name Emrys?"Sir Edward asked
"He is the son of the dragon lord and a barren village woman"
"Balinors son" Sir Edward muttered under his breath, shaking his head in disbelief, before asking something he needed to know.
"Can I kill them? Can I kill Morgana and this Emrys?"
"No" the Dochraid replied in her gruff voice "But you can still change the path their destiny takes"
"What do you mean Dochraid? I am in no mood for your mind games" Sir Edward said in annoyance, still in disbelief his plans could be derailed by a disgraced ward and a villager's son.
"These will be my last words to you before you leave my domain" The Dochraid replied licking her lips "find the rest of the trinity crystal and complete your plan as intended . But know this, while Emrys and Le Fay grow stronger it would be years before they realise their full potential. Their magic may be strong enough to sustain their life but what life is worth living when you're separated from the one you love the most? Together they are strong but apart they will fall apart"
And with those last words the Dochraid vanished leaving Sir Edward alone inside the dank dwelling that was the Dochraids home. Armed with the knowledge he needed he left the cave and teleported back to Camelot, he had a lot of planning to do.
Gaius's chambers present time….
"What do you mean my uncle had something to do with your son being taken?" Arthur said his blood boiling a little, it seemed lately that everyone to do with his family or even connected were accused of wrong doings.
Not long after Morgause and Morgana had found out who this Agravaine was, they had called a meeting in Gaius chambers. Only keeping it to a select few, those being Merlin, Leon, Arthur, Gaius and Balinor, as soon as they had told everyone what they had found Arthur hadn't reacted well to it , Agravaine being one of his mother's only living relatives.
"It wouldn't be the first time someone from your family has done something despicable would it Arthur" Morgause spat angrily.
"Morgause" Leon cautioned, he knew she was desperate to find Mordred and so was he but getting angry wouldn't help the situation.
Flicking her hair a little in frustration, Morgause looked at Arthur and saw his shock at her reaction. She knew he was a good man, respected him and valued the strange friendship they had attained. Maybe that was a little harsh Morgause thought with a sigh.
"I'm sorry Arthur" The blond Sorceress said, something she actually meant "I know it's hard to think someone who's family could do something like this , but I wouldn't lie , I wouldn't make something up like this to hurt you. Your my friend as strange as it sounds, one I value. But you need to realise if your uncle has information about my son, we need to find him, I need to find him"
Arthur eventually nodded in understanding, as he looked around the room he realized he had made a new family. Not to mention everyone else in the castle, including his love Gwen, and after what he had found out recently he couldn't be happier about that situation especially.
"We need to make a plan then" Arthur said placing his hands on Gaius's work table "Because Mercia is Bayard's kingdom, he's an ally of my father and it makes sense my uncle would be welcomed their"
Morgause gave Arthur a grateful smile, which the future king returned.
After a while planning they had come to the conclusion that a small group should make their way into Mercia, too many and they could be perceived as a threat so a small group would be perfect. Eventually it was decided Arthur would go due to his connection to Agravaine, they could use it to their advantage not to mention Bayard would play host to the prince of Camelot. Morgause along with Leon had demanded to be part of the trip for obvious reasons, even if it had taken a promise of her not to turn Agravaine into a toad. It was then that Balinor had interrupted saying Gaius and he needed Merlin and Morgana for another task, especially with the threat of Sir Edward now hanging over them which they agreed to.
Arthur then made the decision they would also take Gwaine to Mercia, leaving Lancelot and Percival encase Merlin and Morgana needed help for their next task. Deciding they had a good plan, Arthur, Morgause and Leon left to rest for the night leaving Merlin, Morgana, Gaius and Balinor alone.
A few minutes later…
"We need Kilgarrah, aside from Mordred he needs to be our next move" Balinor stated to the people remaining in the room "His knowledge alone will be invaluable, his strength and power would as well. Not only that I don't know how much I can teach you two, Kilgharrah would show you things I couldn't. It also makes sense for Aithusa's sake; she'll need his influence as she grows".
"There's only one problem with that, Kilgharrahs locked under Camelot inside a cave, held by a massive chain, huge in fact. How are we meant to break it, let alone sneak into Camelot unnoticed?" Morgana asked in disbelief at what she was hearing, she knew out of the names on the list she had made from her dream that Kilgharrah would be the most useful , but he was also the most unattainable.
"Getting into Kilgharrahs cave is the easy part" Gaius said as he rummaged through scrolls on his desk until he found one and unraveled it. The scroll being a map of Camelot's castle "you see, while I was searching the Sarrums vaults I found this. Somehow the Sarrum had obtained a map of the castle of Camelot, if you look at the cave section where Kilgharrah is located" Gaius pointed his wrinkled finger at the cave markings on the page" If you look closely there's an entrance from the outside that leads into their, I'm guessing the Sarrum obtained this for when or if he was going to ever attack Camelot".
"Okay say we go in there, we don't get spotted and we make it into Kilgharrah" Merlin said taking over the conversation "there's still the big problem of freeing him and breaking the massive chain that's tied to his leg"
"That's the hard part" Balinor said running a hand through his beard "You see we have a plan, or an idea but it's dangerous if it back fires"
"What is it" Morgana asked curiously
"We need you to acquire a weapon of the old religion" Balinor replied
"That doesn't sound too bad, what type of weapon?" Merlin said.
"A sword, because these certain swords mixed with yours and Morgana's magic should cut through Kilgharrah's chain, you see the sword would act as a conduit for your magic" Gaius said the old man sure his idea would work "you'll eventually get powerful enough that you wouldn't need the sword but this is the best I can think of in our current situation"
"Where is this sword?" Morgana asked "is that the hard part? You don't know where it is"
"It's not about where the sword is Morgana, that's not the problem" Balinor said cutting in "Its more whose sword it is, and what you would have to do to get it…..or who you would have to bring back to life to get it"
"Bring back to life?" Merlin questioned the warlock's eyes widening
"Well not bring back to life as such, because I'm not sure if their even alive anyway" Gaius said cryptically
"What?" Morgana replied in confusion, she couldn't deny she was nervous about their idea as well. They weren't exactly being forth coming. And what the hell did he mean he didn't know if they were alive anyway? And what did he mean their? Was their more than one?
Gaius let out a small breath before asking
"Has either of you two heard of the legend of Medhir? Or her seven knights?"
