Emma paced around the living room as she tried to go over everything in her head. Regina was asking questions. Regina was curious, Regina was going to dig deep and keep digging until she found something substantial. Everything was flimsy, Emma believed. Regina would find out who she was, why she was here, and do everything she could to either kill her or drive her away.

She could take Alex from them.

"We have to get away," Emma said and tried to think. How long would it take to pack? Jefferson was well off; they could start somewhere else until she was 28. Her son could grow up normal, they could have their own children eventually….they could live a comfortable life somewhere as long as they didn't just go insane in spending.

"We can't get away," he looked at her, "I can't leave, Emma."

"Regina can!"

"I'm not Regina, this isn't my curse."

"You're not cursed though! You remember."

"No Emma, I do remember but I also have that other personality in my head. I'm under the same thing that everyone else is. I can't leave. Something bad will happen to me if I do."

"You're a portal jumper, surely-."

"Regina has my hat, Emma." He walked over and took her shoulders in his hands, "You're panicking, but you know this stuff already."

Emma stared up at him. She was trying not to cry and not to panic, but she had no choice. Regina was powerful. Jefferson had told her as much. She'd seen as much. Regina controlled everyone. Well, there was Rumpelstiltskin but he was only one person. And if Regina attacked them, Emma didn't see how a middle aged man with a limp was going to do much good other than beating her with his cane.

"We could get it back," she offered weakly.

"And leave them all here?" he asked, and offered gently, "Your parents? Your people? Emma, you're telling me to leave my daughter."

Of course. Grace. Emma rested the palms of her hands against her eyes and sighed. She was freaking out. She was being selfish. She'd forgotten about his daughter.

A fleeting thought…she could take Alex and clear out. No, that was insane. She'd be separating Jefferson from yet another child for the next ten years. She couldn't do that. Not from the baby's only father.

But what if it was the only safe thing for Alex?

What was she supposed to do then?

"We're jumping to conclusions," he wrapped his arms around her, "Maybe…maybe your identification holds up. We don't know. We don't know, alright?"

"And what if it doesn't?" She asked.

His face fell, he took her face in his hands, "Then we'll find a way to get away…just until you're 28 and can stop this."

Emma stared up at him. She tried to think of alternatives but they were hitting a roadblock with every single one. But they couldn't stay here for long, especially if Regina saw through their act.

But could she leave behind the mother she just found? Her comatose father? What happened to them? Could Rumpelstiltskin even protect them?

Could he protect Grace if they had to leave her behind?"

"I'm scared," she finally admitted.

He hugged her tighter, "I know."

Emma clung to him. She just got a family. She just found the family that gave her up to protect her and she might lose it all again if Regina kept digging?

"We're jumping to conclusions," he repeated and he rubbed her back, "Our family is going to be fine, you'll see."

He didn't sound like he believed it. Emma couldn't find it in her to give herself false hope either. Not after the stories she'd heard Regina being capable of.

Jefferson rested his forehead on hers, "We'll figure this out."

"You're promising something that might be impossible," she whispered, "Nothing ever works out for me. I've lost a lot, I can't lose you or the baby or my parents too."

"I know," he looked conflicted, "I'll….I'll think of something. Or we will. We'll think of something."

"I won't leave without you," she promised.

But she tried not to think about the one thing bugging her. What if she had to?
