Hey guys, here's the chapter that I've been building to for AGES now. The chapter with the wedding! An extra-long one this is going to be although I've decided not to drag it out too long so we'll jump straight into the good stuff, fasten your seatbelts and enjoy!
P.S. Thanks for the fresh reviews, I LOVE hearing feedback, positive or negative. Keep it coming please.
Please forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes.
It was the day of the wedding, the day she'd been dreading so much. Garnet didn't get a wink of sleep all of that night; she just lay up thinking about everything unable to even remotely relax. By the time that dawn finally arrived the young queen had finally managed to settle her troubled her mind, settled in the sense that she'd finally accepted that beyond question that she'd have to go through with terrible wedding. Something that one of her friends had said stuck with her, "the sooner we get this over with then the sooner we can get back to finding Zidane." That person was right, the sooner she gave Lord Randle the wedding and the privileges that came with it that he so desired then the sooner she could focus on what was really important to her. Reuniting with her one true love.
Later….
Garnet stood in front of her full length mirror in her private quarters wearing a most beautiful wedding dress. The dress had been designer by the finest robe makers on the continent and made from only the finest materials. Her makeup had been done by Freya who along with Beatrix and little Eiko had been helping her get dressed.
"You look absolutely beautiful Garnet," said Freya as her friend looked at herself in the mirror.
"Yeah, you lot really gorgeous," piped up Eiko as well. "Everybody will be talking about how great you look."
"Thank you," replied Garnet quielty. She knew the little girl was in her own way trying to cheer her up. But nothing could make her smile today.
There was a knock at the door.
"Come in," said Garnet.
In stepped Doctor Tot followed by Steiner. Garnet greeted with them with a weak smile that both men saw through. Doctor Tot himself had also been informed (albeit; privately) that this wedding was also not something that Garnet was going through with willing.
"If I may say so, you look absolutely stunning Your Majesty," he said giving her a little bow.
"Thank you Doctor Tot," she replied, her voice still very quiet and sad.
"I've known ever since you were infant Your Majesty, I've watched you grow from a curious little girl into a bright and beautiful young woman. In that time I always wondered what your wedding day would be like. I must admit I never thought it would be like this."
"Neither did I Doctor Tot," she answered. She then walked towards him and gave him a warm embrace. Like Steiner and Beatrix, this man had always been there for her. "Thank you," she whispered into his ear.
"For what Your Majesty?" he asked as her returned her embrace.
"For always being there for me, whenever I've needed you," she answered.
Later….
The streets were packed with people who'd come from all around the continent to bear witness to the Royal wedding of Queen Garnet to Lord Randle, people stood on top of building roofs to see over the throngs of people. The castle's grounds were filled with Lords, Ladies and many other wealthy important and people. The seats had been laid out and the most important figures were able to sit down, everyone else was forced to stand.
Lord Randle was stood with a priest on a stage which been set up as to so that everybody could see. He was wearing and extremely expensive looking tuxedo with gleaming black shoes and stylish bowtie too. He was flanked by many of his lackeys (who were also all immaculately dressed) as he awaited his bride.
Also present were all of Garnet's companions. They were sat in the front row (she had insisted upon it) and all bore looks of sadness. They all desperately wanted to do something; anything. Anything to possibly help their friend out of this terrible situation. But alas, there was nothing any of them could do to help accept provide moral support.
But also present (unknown to anybody else) was another person. A figure wrapped in a long black cloak which hid his face from view stood a little way off from the group and instead was in amongst the general wedding-goers. Nobody was paying him any attention which was what he wanted, at least right now anyway.
"She'll be here any moment now son," whispered Garland. "And remember, not a word until I say so."
"LADIES AND GENTLEMAN OF ALEXANDRIA," shouted a sharply dressed Master of Ceremonies man. It was yet another flunkey that had been hired by Lord Randle to make sure the wedding went off without a hitch. "VISITORS FROM ALL AROUND THE CONTINENT AND AFAR, WELCOME THE OFFICIAL WEDDING CEREMONY OF QUEEN GARNET AND LORD JOFFREY RANDLE!"
"Joffrey?" sneered Zidane to quietly sneered to himself.
"THE OFFICIAL CEREMONY IS NOW BEGINNING, THE QUEEN HERSELF IS ON HER WAY, PLEASE QUIETEN DOWN AND PREPARE TO WELCOME HER MAJESTY!"
"That guy is already getting on my nerves," muttered Blank quietly from the sidelines alongside everyone else. Wish I could just go over there and smack him one right in that big mouth of his."
"Don't," stated Freya with a calm but authorative tone. "I know this is difficult, just sitting here and do nothing but we've got no choice, we must stay strong for Garnet."
"Have you spoke to her this morning?" asked one of the Vivi's.
"Yes, I went up to her chambers in the castle to see her a little earlier," she replied. "I've never seen anybody look so beautiful as she did in her wedding dress."
"Too bad she won't feel as great as she looks then," said Cinna glumly.
"Do you think Zidane might turn up?" asked Marcus.
"I honestly don't know," answered Freya. "How can any of us predict what he is or isn't going to do in the state he's in. We can't make any assumptions."
"If he does come then boy oh boy, it's going to be awkward," said Blank.
"Well we'll cross that bridge IF we come to it," stated Freya. "Try to keep your eyes peeled for him but remember the main reason we're here. To support Garnet."
Back inside the Castle
"Your Majesty, are you ready to do this?" asked Beatrix.
Garnet sighed and gave herself one last painful look in the mirror. She truly did look beautiful, like something too beautiful to be real.
"I can buy you some more time if you wish to have a little longer," offered the knight.
"No," said the young queen firmly. She turned around to face Beatrix and Eiko who to play the flowergirl. "I am ready. Let us just do this and get it over with."
Garnet stepped down of the small pedestal she was standing and picked up her bouquet which was made up of the finest (and most expensive) flowers on the whole continent.
"Let's go," she said quietly.
The Main Event
The church bells were ringing, the choirs were singing and the audience was oohing and aahing as Queen Garnet made her way down the aisle towards her groom and the priest. The red carpet that lay underneath her feet was littered of the same type of flowers that she was carrying in her bouquet. She stood arm in arm with her Uncle Cid, he was to give her away (and he sure as hell hated having to be the one do it). Still, it was nice to be this close to him again and it only helped remind her of why she was doing this. Following behind them at the side were her bridesmaids who were simply just two of her castle maids. She offered the roles to both Beatrix and Freya but both declined, not wanting any part of the wedding. She understood the position, of course they would still support her, they just didn't want to be seen like they were condoning the event itself by having official roles. The same reason Steiner had (respectfully) declined the offer to give her away. Although it made the most sense for him to give the young Queen away seeing as he ever her constant protector, he could never bring himself to give her away to a man like Lord Randle in a wedding that was only happening through blackmail. Like with the others, Garnet completed understood and accepted his decision.
"Her Majesty looks so….. beautiful," whispered members of the audience to one another. Thousands of pairs of eyes were fixed upon her as she walked down the aisle but her face remained stoic.
After what felt like an absolute eternity Garnet finally reached the altar and took her place opposite Lord Randle. She looked him square in the face and deep into his cold eyes. He gave her a smug little smile as her stared back at her. She was desperate to smack it off his face but she remained still and silent.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, PLEASE RISE AS OUR BELOVED COUPLE EXCHANGE THEIR MARRIAGE VOWS," shouted the Master of Ceremonies.
"Oh great," muttered Steiner under his breathe. Beatrix who now stood beside him whispered back;
"Stay strong Steiner, she needs us."
The priest then stepped forward to stand in front of Garnet and Randle (who were still staring at each other intensely) and began to speak.
"We are joined here today to bare witness to the marriage of Lord Joffrey Randle of Treno and Her Majesty Queen Garnet til Alexandros XVII. The couple will now exchange their vows, please remain silent."
"Can I interfere now?" asked Zidane.
"Not quite yet, I'll tell you when to make your grand entrance don't worry," replied Garland.
"Do you Lord Randle blah blah blah," said the priest.
Zidane was barely even listening to him now as he rattled on asking his pointless vows. He gaze was now fixated on Garnet. He'd never such a magnificent sight in his entire life, she looked so beautiful in that dress and her tied back like that. He now managed to prise his eyes away and instead focused on the man standing next to her.
"That bastard," Zidane thought to himself. "I will make sure he suffers a long painful death for what he's done. The hell he goes too will feel like heaven when I'm finished with him."
"You'll be able to have your way with him eventually son," stated Garland weighing in. "But remember, not a move until I say so."
Zidane now turned his attentions back to what was going on. The priest was still babbling on. But eventually he said something that finally caught his attention.
"And do you Joffrey, take Garnet to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to love and cherish her, in both sickness and in health?"
"I do," Randle responded immediately.
"Now! Now is the time to attack!" thought Zidane fiercely.
"No," said Garland firmly. "We shall let them make their marriage official. We attack later during that clown's official coronation ceremony as King to catch them off guard."
"But…" spluttered Zidane desperately. "I… I… I can't let them officially marry. I can't let them become officially husband and wife. I have to stop them!"
"I SAID NO!" ordered Garland.
"And do you Garnet, take Joffrey to be your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise to love and cherish him, in both sickness and in health?" asked the priest.
Garnet's heart sank. This was the last vow and alsonthe one she'd been dreading the most. After this they'd be pronounced married. She'd managed to squeeze out 'I do's' to all the previous vows. But this one was by far the most difficult to summon up those dreaded words for. Out of the corner of her eye she looked over towards her friends who were all sat in the front row. They were all giving her looks of silent support. Her throat very dry, she thought of Zidane and answered.
"I… do," she just about managed.
"NO!" thought Zidane. "NO. This is it. I'm stepping up and stopping this right now!"
"WAITTTTT!" shouted Garland.
"I ask that if anybody present here can think of a reason that these two should not be wed in holy matrimony, speak now or forever hold your piece!" shouted the priest so that everyone could here.
The gang were all desperate to speak up, to stop this all. Alas, knowing that they couldn't they instead all held their silence. However, one man in the crowd didn't.
"STOPPPPPPPPP!" screamed Zidane in that evil voice that become natural to him. Stunned, EVERYBODY turned to look in his direction to see who had interrupted.
"FORGET YOUR LITTLE WEDDING," he shouted as he began to waft his way through the crowds and headed towards the stage, his face still hidden beneath his cloak. His voice was now one of complete malice and evil so none of his friends recognised it. "FORGET YOUR LITTLE CELEBRATION AND FORGET YOUR HAPPINESS."
He reached the stage and climbed up onto it. Many guards ran to block him from progressing any further, he now stood 20 feet from Garnet and Randle.
"ALL OF YOU, YOUR HOPE ENDS HERE!" he roared pointing his arms upwards towards the sky (where dark rain clouds were suddenly beginning to form). "AND YOUR MEANINGLESS EXISTENCE WITH IT!"
And with that came that evil and crazy laugh. The laugh of a true madman.
"WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE YOU FILTHY WORM?" screamed Randle from the altar. He was spitting he was so angry that somebody interrupted this moment."HOW DARE YOU INTERRUPT THIS EVENT! GUARDS, SEIZE HIM AND CARRY OUT AN EXECUTION IMMEDIATLEY! I WANT HIS HEAD ON A PIKE BEFORE SUNSET!"
Half a dozen knights rushed forward to try and grab the cloaked figure as Garnet and everybody else looked on complete shock/horror. But as the knights reached him Zidane suddenly jumped 15 feet into the air away from the grasp. He landed back down again now only feet away from the altar and then to be weds. Rain droplets now began to slowly fall as the dark clouds bared down on the castle.
"Tut tut, too slow," mocked the cloaked man, waggling his finger as he did so.
"You must Lord Randle. I've heard so much about you."
"WHO ARE YOU!" demanded Randle.
"Me?" Zidane turned to look at Garnet whose eyes were transfixed upon him, he mouth agape. Through them he saw the light bulb go off in her head as she realised who she was looking at, moments before he made it absolutely clear to everyone.
"I, ladies and gentleman of Alexandria, am your worst nightmare come to life. I have come to destroy your planet and claim it in the name of Terra. I am… THE ANGEL OF DEATH ZIDANE TRIBAL!
He tore of his cloak to reveal himself, and what everyone saw was a truly shocking site.
