World Compression 5: Send in the Clones
At Power Palace, Lana came out of her bathroom in only a white robe. She was relaxed and her skin felt so smooth and silky clean after a nice warm shower. She sat in front of the mirror and brushed her mussed hair. She held her hair in a pony tail and put a hair tie on to keep its shape. Just then, a massive earthquake rocked Power Palace. She was startled and knocked off of her chair onto the floor. Bits of dust tumbled from the ceiling. She crawled along the ground trying to get underneath her vanity table.
For nearly ten minutes, the tremors carried on. When they seemed to have stopped, Lana arose from beneath the table and looked around. Her bedside lamp had fallen onto her bed, while the nightstand was on its side on the floor. The shelves had tumbled out, spilling books all over the floor. She cleaned up the mess and went to check up on the others. She found Charles in his room, having just emerged from hiding beneath his desk.
"Father, are you okay?" asked Lana.
"Yes, I am," replied Charles. "That was a very serious earthquake. Just what's happening over in the Cross World?"
"No idea," replied Lana.
The next day, the members of the Explorers met to discuss events. For this meeting, Lyle was present. "Good news, we've just finished upgrading the warp monitoring system, despite the earthquake last night. We can see what happened to the lost worlds."
"What happened to them?" asked Abel.
"They, or at least a couple of them, had been joined with the Cross World," said Lyle. "Those ones include the Fighter World, Residence, and the Iron Fist World."
"Where did the other ones go?" asked Kevin.
"They've been joined to other worlds," replied Lyle. "Ouma seems to be combining the Cross Bloc and its neighbours into just six themed worlds. They are the Cross World, the Future, Alternate Timelines, Divine, Fantasy, and Demon worlds."
According to Lyle, the first trio were divided based on Earthly time periods. The Cross World was the core world, similar to Earth in the 21st Century. The Future was the Cross World many years into the future, when humanity took to the stars. The Alternate Timelines represented different ways that the Cross World could have developed, such as a steam technology world. These three were considered the human trio.
The second trio consisted of worlds which were highly supernatural. The Fantasy World was this trio's core world, just like the Cross World was for its companions. It was a world of knights and sorcerers, but also of talking, mascot-like creatures. The Divine Realm was where beings like angels and deities lived. In contrast, the Demon World contained all of the evil and dark beings like demons and undead.
"What does Ouma hope to achieve by doing all this?" asked Abel.
"Your guess is as good as mine," replied Lyle. "We can only speculate."
"What happened to all of the people of the merged worlds? Wouldn't there be overpopulation?" asked Sheena.
"I can only guess that they didn't survive," replied Lyle. "Ouma probably donated their souls to the Infernal Village."
"That means billions of people died!" said Sonia.

Meanwhile in Cosmo Land, countless military boats stopped on a beach. Their front hatches opened, releasing hundreds of soldiers onto the sand. The men were dressed in armour like space suits. These astronaut-like soldiers ran down the beach with guns blazing. From the forest across the beach, entrenched enemy soldiers returned fire. One of the space soldiers fired a rocket into the forest, setting off a booming explosion.
The astronaut-like soldiers served under the flag of the Black Hole. With each step they advanced, the soldiers of the Orange Star flag, took a step back in retreat. City after city fell on the island of Tangerine. Soon, every city flew the flag of the Black Hole. The Orange Star army sailed over the sea, back to their homeland. Day by day, the Black Hole army shipped soldiers and vehicles to Tangerine Island.
Some time later, the Black Hole army's soldiers began to search the mountains in the western part of Tangerine Island. One of the astronaut-like soldiers held out a handheld scanning device. A large energy source made the device beep slowly and steadily. The soldiers moved ahead and the scanner started beeping more frequently and fiercely. Up ahead was a cave which led deep into a mountain.
"Sir, the energy reading is coming from this cave," said the soldier with the scanner.
"We'll check the interior. Keep your eyes peeled for ambushes," said the commander.
They followed the cave straight into the heart of the mountain and came face to face with a glowing nimbus of light. It was contained within an arch labelled with the emblem of a gloved fist. Inside the arch was the image of a granite hexagonal room with other nimbuses similar to the one in the cave. A few days later, the Black Hole army had set up a camp nearby. A squad of soldiers occupied the heart of the mountain for their allies to enter the nimbus.
On the other side, the royal guard came down to investigate this intrusion of their warp. As soon as the two sides bumped into each other, the energy bolts started flying. The royal guard took cover around the corners of doors. After a few shots hit the door frame, they peeked out to squeeze out shots. The Black Hole soldiers repeated the same motions. One of the royal guardsmen pulled the pin on a grenade and threw it. An explosion ripped through the warp room, hurling the astronaut-soldiers into the ground.
At each flank, the Black Hole soldiers saw royal guardsmen take cover around door frames. Two shots zinged by a Black Hole soldier. He then peeked out to fire, but was struck by return fire. He collapse to the ground, writhing in agony on the floor. A grenade landed near the fallen man's two allies. It exploded and tossed them to the ground. "Retreat!" cried the Black Hole squad leader.
While others provided cover fire, the free Black Hole soldiers started to move fallen companions back to the warp. Bit by bit, they retreated from the warp hub until all of them had reached safety. At the throne room, King Charles closed the communications channel. "Someone attacked our warp zone again?" asked Lana.
"Yes, they were described as soldiers in space suits," replied Charles. "Our prisoners say they're part of the Black Hole Army."
"Are you going to retaliate against this enemy?" asked Lana.
"Yes, this is what the Power Bloc was created for," replied Charles. "Your team will have to mobilize too. We want you to make the first strike against this new enemy."
"Of course, father," said Lana.
When night fell on the other side, the Explorers approached the warp used by the mysterious Black Hole Army. The warp was labelled with a picture of a tank with a star on its side. A short distance from the warp cave, they were fired upon by the Black Hole Army. Sonia's Power Word: Shield spells blunted the lasers easily. Bowser got hit by several shots, but remained unfazed. He saw a muzzle flash and immediately dashed at it and punched the soldier.
Sheena sped forward following Bowser in. She somersaulted over the heads of the Black Hole and hurled ofuda. Each tag attached to the back and exploded after a second of glowing white. She landed behind a soldier and slapped him with an ofuda. At another flank, Link parried the enemy shots as he advanced. Zelda peered out of a rock and let loose a fire arrow into a trio of soldiers. The resulting explosion hurled them into the air for a harsh crash landing on the ground.
The Black Hole retreated from their positions around the warp. Soon, the Power Bloc solders entered the area to set up camp. Numerous robotic constructs, Mechon, started to patrol the area. With them were demons from the Realm of Bel and royal guards. Mechon M32 scout drones, which resembled a pod with an underside gun, flew out of the base. They flew to a nearby Black Hole base and peppered it with Ether blasts.
One of the soldiers returned fire, hitting the drone and bumping it back. The drone retaliated with Ether blasts. A second type of Mechon approached the base. These ones were twice the height of a human. They resembled biped humanoids with pod-like torsos and chicken-like legs. They had guns attached to their arms. They were M87 shock troopers, who were the heavy infantry of the Mechon. The M87 fired Ether blasts at a light tank, which punctured a hole into the turret.
The M87 and M32 Mechon continued to flood into the base. Whenever they saw the Black Hole, they promptly shot them with Ether blasts. The Black Hole had lost their base to the Mechon and were in full retreat. "We have won this battle," said Michael, watching the video feed of the battle from his command tent.
Lana looked over the map of Tangerine Island. According to it, the Power Bloc's area, represented by green, covered the central part of the island. The enemy's area, represented by red, covered all of the beaches of Tangerine Island. The Black Hole still controlled every port which allowed ocean access to the island. That meant they could use ports to ship in material and soldiers. Lana decided that the Explorers should knock out one of the naval bases.
Lana pointed to Citrus Port, a city to the south of the warp. "I'm going to destroy the Black Hole base here," said Lana.
"Okay," said Michael. "We'll adjust our strategy accordingly."

The Explorers flew through the mountains of the western side of Tangerine Island. Yog reached the ocean and immediately sank into the briny depths. He then made his way around the island, all the way to a naval port on the east side of Citrus Port. Several battleships and cruisers were docked, receiving maintenance by work crews. A significant part of the Black Hole Navy was gathered her, vulnerable to attack.
"That's a lot of ships," said Sonia. "How are we going to get rid of them all?"
"Easily," replied Abel. "One tsunami coming right up."
Abel raised his arms into the air. Following this gesture, a massive amount of water started to rise from the surface and coalesce into a tidal wave. The wave was hundreds of feet high and spread terror among the Black Hole. The crest of the wave crashed onto the base, crushing buildings underneath. Naval ships were washed into the base itself and smashed into buildings. Individual Black Hole soldiers were carried off by the water and dumped outside the base.
"Let's go!" said Abel.
Yog moved to the shore, where he deposited the Explorers. The vast majority of the Black Hole were unconscious or dead, drowned by tons of water being dumped on the naval port. However, some of the soldiers had survived and fired at Abel as he approached. The bullets came close to his body, then suddenly vanished into nothingness. Abel raised a hand into the air, causing storm clouds to brew and darken the sky.
Corrosive water rained upon the men, sapping their strength and afflicting them with poison. Three of the men started to freeze solid in a block of ice. The rest of the men fought through the pain and one shot a rocket at Abel. He immediately raised a violet barrier. The rocket hit and exploded on the barrier, but caused him no harm. He then froze the rocket soldier in a block of ice. Yog blitzed the soldiers with orbs, throwing the soldiers to the ground.
Scarlet suddenly appeared and sprayed fire upon a shooting soldier. The soldier flailed around in terror, trying to douse the flames. The other soldiers turned and fired at her, but she had already zipped away to safety. She then drew wisps of energy from the men, knocking them out. Mao activated an aura of blue light. The Black Hole fired at him, but their shots bounced off the aura. Mao arced lightning at them. They were struck and shocked into unconsciousness.
More men attempted to rush in from the intact barracks in the northern part of the naval base. As they ran down the road, a beam of energy pierced through one of them. They started to scatter, but not before having another member get shot. They eventually reached cover behind rubble and in other buildings. Bowser descended on one of their barracks and stomped a hole through it. He crashed down to the ground floor, causing the building to collapse in on itself.
The soldiers fled the building while firing at Bowser. Their shots simply deflected off of his body. Sonia cast a Holy Fire and ignited a soldier in golden flame. She then cast a series of Smites, which pummelled soldiers with hammer-like holy energy. Others scattered, but Bowser dashed over and punched down to the ground. At that moment, the Explorers found themselves surrounded by several yokai, demons, and Black Hole soldiers.
The yokai included many sickle weasels and tengu. The demons included a troop of red arremar, zombies, and a large shielder demon. "Ouma?" asked Zelda.
"Now, I see what's going on," said Link.
Ouma and Black Hole descended upon the group. Link raised the mirror shield and the weasel's scythe clanged against it. The weasel tried again, to be blocked. The moment the weasel tired, Link swung for the head. The Master Sword clanged against the bone. Link then slammed the shield against the weasel's face. The weasel dropped its guard and stumbled back. Link quickly went in and stabbed the creature in the torso. He flicked the creature off of his sword and it vanished upon its death.
A zombie shambled its way over to Sveta. It tried to grab her, but she sidestepped. She kicked it in the ribs, staggering it momentarily. The zombie swiped her clumsily, missing and overextending. She darted in with a flurry of punches. With a kick, Sveta took the legs from under the zombie. Black Hole soldiers fired at her, but she fled and called a lightning blitz upon them. Each bolt seared the men and flattened them.
The shielder demon spit a trio of fireballs at Abel. Scarlet suddenly appeared in their path and absorbed them. She radiated power and sprayed flame back. The shielder used its own head as a shield, then tried to bash her with it. Scarlet ascended out of range. Abel conjured a corrosive rain. The droplets burned the shielder. It let out a quick gasp in pain. The droplets started to form icy patches on its shoulders.
Yog launched orbs and the first struck the shielder's head. The subsequent ones hit its torso and made it stumble back. Mao ran to its leg and hacked it with his paddle. The shielder lost balance and collapsed. Yog pummelled the demon with more orbs, pushing it into an indentation in the ground. Scarlet sucked wisps of violet energy from it. Abel tore open a reality fracture which sucked it in and disintegrated it.
After destroying Citrus Naval Base, the Explorers returned to the Power Bloc's forward base on Tangerine Island. "I saw your battle through our drones," said Michael. "Well done!"
"Michael, we were ambushed by Ouma!" said Kevin.
"Aye, I saw that too," replied Michael. "It seems Ouma is helping the Black Hole Army. This is unexpected."
"What could Ouma want with the Black Hole Army?" asked Sonia.
"No matter, that's all the more reason to put down the Black Hole Army," replied Michael. "Once we take the Black Hole's main base, we've got some digging to do."

In the eastern part of Cosmo Land of Wars World was the nation of Yellow Comet. This island continent was quite similar to the nation of Japan and populated by an Asian people. The tanks of the Yellow Comet rolled down the southern plain of their lands. They started to fire at enemy tanks, which were marked by the emblem of the Orange Star. The Orange Star fired shells in return. Yellow Comet soldiers launched rockets and exploded an Orange Star tank.
One by one, the Orange Star started to fall. Their tanks burst into flame when struck by Yellow Comet shells. Their soldiers scream in agony as they were shot by Yellow Comet infantry. The Yellow Comet soldiers converged on a cement entrance to an underground bunker. A demolitionist planted plastic explosives on the door. After a brief countdown, a vicious explosion blasted the door open. The soldiers immediately ran in.
The Orange Star soldiers retreated deeper into the bunker. Two of their men were hit by bullets and felled. A third soldier nearby continued to shoot, until he too was hit and felled. The Yellow Comet kept flooding into the bunker. The Orange Star kept retreating until they were trapped at the office of their leader. This young man had short black hair and was dressed in an orange uniform much like a boy scout's. He wore a golden badge which marked his rank and carried a wrench.
Yellow Comet's soldiers swarmed the room. "Hands up!" commanded a Yellow Comet soldier.
The young commander of Orange Star complied with the order, as did his men. The Yellow Comet quickly handcuffed each man and escorted them out of the bunker. As they were loaded into a prison vehicle, a young Asian woman and her older male counterpart watched the proceedings. The woman had black hair tied back into a ponytail and wore glasses and a khaki uniform. Her male counterpart also wore a khaki uniform. The goateed man also wore a cape which signified his rank.
"Your information was right on target," said the man, Emperor Kanbei. "So he's the clone of Orange Star's Andy?"
"Yes," replied the woman, Sonja of Yellow Comet intelligence. "I confirmed that the real Andy is fending off an invasion by Olaf of Blue Moon at this moment."
A messenger approached Sonja and gave her an envelope. She took out its contents, a report, and read it. "What does it say?" asked Kanbei.
Sonja skimmed the document. "It says that Black Hole forces are in full retreat at Tangerine Island."
"Retreat?" asked Kanbei. "Who's attacking them? Orange Star?"
Sonja read further ahead. "No, the Black Hole had discovered an interdimensional gateway within the Tangerine Mountains. They sent troops to investigate, but were driven back by something on the other side. Whatever it was followed them back and is now routing them."
"How much of a threat are they to the Yellow Comet?" asked Kanbei.
"Right now, that's uncertain," replied Sonja. "Orange Star has taken notice of the unknown force as well. They're trying to establish contact with them."
"Now, this I'd like to see. I'd like to know who could make even the Black Hole run scared," said Kanbei.
"That can be arranged. Orange Star is trying to set up a meeting with them," said Sonja. "I'm also interesting in seeing who they are."

In about a week, the Power Bloc had routed the Black Hole completely. Strewn over the ground were the remains of dead soldiers and smashed Mechon drones and shock troopers. The Black Hole's tank had been smashed into smouldering wrecks. Smoke billowed out of it into the sky like a black cloud. War planes and helicopters had crashed into the ground, smashed to pieces, and belching smoke into the sky. In the water and near the shores were capsized warships and boats.
"With that final group leaving, Black Hole has completely abandoned Tangerine Island," said Michael. "Normally, that would be the end of it, but as you've found out, they are in league with Ouma."
"That's the problem, isn't it? We don't know where their main force is," said Lana.
Michael answered a message from one of his underlings. "The Orange Star have sent us a message via diplomatic courier. Why don't you bring it to the King?"
Lana did as Michael suggested and returned to the throne room with the message. Lana read the message to King Charles. The Orange Star and Yellow Comet Nations were interested in opening relations with the Power Bloc. Both nations wanted to form a coalition to retaliate against Black Hole for recent invasions. Eventually, the meeting went forward and was held in Tangier Port north of the Tangerine Mountains. The meeting went perfectly and the Orange Star and Yellow Comet even applied for Power Bloc membership.
The two nations could not ignore the lucrative trade routes with other worlds. Since the warps were now considered trade routes, the two nations were obligated to commit military power to defend them. Tangier Port would become a neutral city and trading hub for the three nations. However, the Power Bloc was asked to begin ceding the rest of Tangerine Island to the Orange Star, starting with Orange Straight Port.
After the treaty was ratified, a second meeting began with the commanding officers of the three parties. Yellow Comet's Sonja showed the crowd a prison photo of Andy's clone, who was dressed in drab garb and carried an ID sign. Apparently, the Andy Clone resulted from Black Hole cloning technology. His goal was to sow discord and animosity between Yellow Comet and Orange Star. She also suspected that clones of Blue Moon and Green Earth officers were also present.
However, she had also discovered the location of Black Hole's main base. It was an island in the south, to the west of the Green Earth's territory. She had also spotted Ouma yokai delivering materials and guarding the island with Black Hole. In fact, one such group of Ouma agents had ambushed a special forces team attempting to perform reconnaissance on the island. Luckily, the team managed to get away.

When night fell after the meeting, the Explorers flew over south across the ocean in Yog. After reaching the half way point, Yog sank into the ocean and continued the journey underwater. After an hour, they could detect the sea bed slope up to land above water. On the water's surface were several rectangular outcroppings, which represented docks for the Black Hole navy. Several marine combat vessels were docked there, including at least three submarines.
Abel raised his hands into the air. Like before, the water arose more than a hundred feet into the air, before dropping on the naval base. Cruisers, subs, and aircraft carriers were washed away and dumped into the base. The aircraft carrier smashed a hole into a military office building and went out the other end. Hapless Black Hole soldiers were carried away by the water and stranded on top of buildings or dumped outside of the naval base.
Yog crested the ocean and to a military base surrounded by SAM launchers, the Explorers' target. Yog moved in range of a group of hangars with mobile SAM launchers inside. Yog deposited the team outside the base, then proceeded to bombard the hangars with orbs. When the first struck, it punched a hole through the roof and a massive crater into the ground. The SAM launchers were crushed underneath and a boom resounded from exploded missiles.
An alarm sounded and Black Hole infantry scrambled for weapons. An active mobile SAM launcher parked in range and fired at Yog. Despite three direct hits, Yog still remained airborne. He then teleported the mobile launcher above a barracks. The launcher crashed through the roof and an explosion came from the building as a result of the missile being accidentally triggered. Yog teleported an incoming jeep into air, dumping it onto a lookout tower.
Black Hole infantry flooded the grounds of the base. Kevin picked off one of them with a shot through the torso. He shot a second before they could scramble for cover from the sniping Game Master. At the southwest, Kevin dematerialized his Super Scope and descended the back of his hill. He and Lana ran to another hill towards the east, where he restored his Super Scope. He caught another soldier in the crosshairs and shot him.
Link hurled a bomb into a crowd of Black Hole infantry. They immediately and dove for safety. As they recovered, Link flung a sword beam. It pierced a soldier's chest and felled him. He closed with another soldier and hacked off the barrel and chamber of his gun. With a dashing cut, Link felled the man. Zelda followed and sent an arrow into a soldier's heart. She prepared a fire arrow and sent it at a group of approaching soldiers. It exploded and sent several soldiers to the ground.
Kirby descended near a soldier with a rocket launcher. He then sucked in the weapon, along with the other soldiers. After expelling the men, he turned into a living rocket and launched himself at the others. The soldiers fled in panic with others diving to the ground to avoid Kirby. He exploded, then reappeared in the centre of the explosion unharmed. Sveta closed with one of the soldiers and pummelled the man with body blows. Staggering him, Sveta kicked him in the head and knocked him out.
"Great One, I have crushed all of the SAM launchers," said Yog.
"Good," replied Abel. "It is time for us to leave."
Abel conjured a massive snow storm over the Black Hole base. In an instant, the base were blanketed by pure whiteness and glistening ice. Visibility plummeted until all distant objects were as white blurs. The members of the Explorers retreated to the south part of the base. Yog picked up each of them and flew them to the most remote and secluded area in the mountainous area of Black Hole's island. Abel summoned Mao, who formed a demonic domain within a cave.
"Let's relax tonight," said Kevin. "It's been a long day."
After two days, the Power Bloc reached Black Hole island. The planes of Orange Star and the Yellow Comet soared over the beach. When they reached the island's heart, they launched missiles. Explosions ripped through a Black Hole tank squad. Black Hole scrambled pilots to fighter jets. One of them got on the tail of a Yellow Comet jet and fired numerous bullets. The Yellow Comet's jet received several holes. A fire burst from its engine. It fell into a nosedive and exploded on the ground.
A lightning bolt struck the Black Hole jet. Its engines burst into flame, billowing black smoke. A Yellow Comet jet got onto its tail and unloaded bullets. The Black Hole jet became perforated and lost altitude. It crashed onto the ground and broke to pieces. Orange Star tanks rolled into the central area of the island. They turned their turrets to a distant enemy and fired. Shells exploded around Black Hole troops. One of them struck a tank and reduced it to smouldering wreckage.
An hour later, a rocket ascended from the central part of Black Hole's base. It soared into the sky at incredible speed, far too quickly for even a jet to catch. "That must be the leader!" said Lana, witnessing the event.
Two more launches followed the first. Followed by another two launches. "Their leader got away. Looks like we won," said Kevin.
Two hours later, the Explorers and the commanders of the Orange Star and Yellow Comet entered a room in the Black Hole's abandoned base. It was a room filled with monitoring equipment such as control consoles and television screens. A desk at the back of the room was reserved for the Black Hole leader. Above his seat was the emblem of Black Hole. Shulk began to pore through Black Hole's files in search of any relevant information.
He found a series of messages between Ouma and the Black Hole. He showed them on the monitor for everyone to read. Judging from the content, Black Hole had formed an alliance with Ouma, a fact that was already known. One of the terms Ouma had insisted on was the acquisition of Black Hole's cloning technology. In exchange, Ouma would provide yokai and demons to help Black Hole invade Orange Star.
"So Ouma wants Black Hole cloning tech," said Abel. "What do they intend to clone?"
