Day Four: Midnight

Ace Plaid, D8

As the Nightly Death Toll completes with a flourish, the group is hiding behind the foliage of Central Park. Ace is wielding a small sword, clutching it tightly as the voices of the Careers travels into his ear. A girl is suggesting to exit the park from the east, where Ace's alliance is. This couldn't be more perfect. Ace slightly pulls on Whitney, urging her to climb up the small tree and hide in the leaves. She's from Eleven, and this is second nature to her. Back at the base, there was an agreement that Ace gets the first kill. There also was another agreement that Wire stay back with Gadget and Gizmo, Mira saying 'they'll get in the way'. The twins agreed to stay behind, but a disappointed look crossed their eyes. Ace promised he'd tell them everything about it when they got back.

The group hid behind and in the foliage waiting for the Careers to come. Footsteps grew louder as the Careers walked towards the group. Ace's heart began to race, realizing that he may be killed tonight. A girl with black hair and the golden stripe of One came through the shrubs first. Ace poised his weapon, placing it above her head. Before he could swing down, the girl let out a bloodcurdling scream and fell to the ground. The cannon sounded and Mira wiped the blood off of her weapon. Careers began to yell out questions and ran around like ants underneath a magnifying glass. Ace looked to Mira and started to yell. "Why the fuck did you do that? We had a fucking deal!"

No one could deal with Mira. An arrow lodged in her back the second after Ace yelled at her. Ace looked behind Mira to see her killer. That little girl from One shot her down with an arrow. It was full on panic. Whitney, Adeline, and Colten stayed as quiet as they could but Ace knew they were scared of their possible death. Ace climbed up the foliage, whispering to Whitney. "When all the fighting dies down, you go back to home base. Tell Gadget and Gizmo everything that happened, okay?" Whitney nods and Ace covers up the younger kids with the leaves and branches. A burning sensation builds up from the small of his back, licking his flesh with a burning pain. He lets out a scream, falling on his back. His back became warm, soaked with blood.

As he bled out, all he could see is death and carnage around him. Whitney's deep eyes locked with Ace's. She is watching him bleed out, losing his life in front of her. Ace looked to her, mouthing the words Don't worry about me to her. Before long, he could no longer feel his back. His eyes closed and the last thing he heard was his cannon fire in the distance.

Lily McKinley, D11

Ace and Mira's corpses were on the ground, bloody and dead. Lily was surrounded by fighting, carnage, and death. Cannons were firing from every direction. The Gamemakers must be having fun shooting off all of these cannons. The little kids still were hiding in the foliage and no one even noticed they were there. Before Lily could think of what to do, a hulking boy from Two is looking right at her. His sharpened sword intimidated her beyond belief. She scooped up the knife beside Ace's body and ran towards that boy. She ran towards him, sliding on her side, and cut a deep gash on his inner thigh. Deep red blood dripped from his wound and fell on the grass.

He dropped his sword to the ground and tried to cover his would. Lily quickly ran over to pick up his weapon. She placed the weapon in between his eyes. The boy just looked at her, like a wounded warrior. In a mere second, he grabbed her wrist and tried to yank his weapon from her hands. She screamed as she tried to get free. She rolled over the boy's back, still holding onto the handle of the sword. A pool of blood was underneath his wound. Lily was in control of the weapon. She pointed it to the boy's heart. She used all of her might to push it closer to his chest. The boy was fighting through the pain, but he couldn't fight it. She slammed the weapon into his chest, lodging the pointed tip into his heart. She pushed the sword in as far as it would go. It went clean through his body.

The boy's eyes drained of life and, before his cannon sounded, he coughed up blood onto Lily's face. He landed on the ground with a thud. She didn't even think about the warm mess on her face; she gathered her thoughts and started to run towards the base. A few other people in the alliance followed her lead, jumping from their hiding spots and running right behind her. They had a long way to run, but Lily just wanted to get away from the death. The only thing that was on her mind was the way the boy looked when she killed him. He was begging for mercy, something she never thought could come from a Career's face. Now she has his blood on her hands, quite literally.

Ronan 'Ro' McLeod, D4

The trident flew in the air, hitting the boy from Thirteen dead in the chest. His cannon fired as most of the attackers started to run away. Ronan walked over to the corpse and picked up his weapon. Ronan and Caspian walked over to Helios, laying dead on the grass with a sword lodged through his body. "Damn. I didn't think he'd die this early in the Games. Especially to Eleven." Ronan commented as he tried to pull the weapon from his body. That girl must have really shoved it in there deep. He put his foot beside the entry wound and pulled with all of his might to get the sword out of Helios' body. The sword was completely lodged inside his body. Eleven must have been one strong bitch. Ronan pulled and pulled, trying to release it from Helios' organs. When the weapon was finally dislodged from the corpse of a monster tribute, a girl started to scream.

Ronan looked behind him to see his brother's neck covered in blood. A little boy, with the stripe of Six, stood behind Caspian with deer eyes at the sight of blood. Ronan let out a deep scream and tackled the boy to the ground. A girl on the streets started calling for him, yelling out 'Dandy! Dandy!" over and over again. Ronan pinned Dandy to the ground, holding the sword covered in Helios' blood over the boy's scared face. The rest of the alliance looked at him in horror as he stabbed the boy over and over again. Blood splattered in Ronan's face. With each stab he took to the boy, he let out his anger on his brother's death. Even after the cannon sounded and the screaming girl had to be dragged away by her alliance, he continued to stab the small boy's corpse.

Someone grabbed Ronan from behind as he tried to stab the boy once more. A girl's voice broke into his locked brain. "Ro, Ronan! He's gone. He's gone. Stop it!" Octavia pulled him to the ground and took the sword away from him. She sat on his stomach, holding his wrists down with her hands. "Stop! They're both gone. Ronan, look at me!" Ronan looked into Octavia's eyes, slowing his breath down. "Caspian is gone. The boy who killed him is gone. I didn't want Cas to die this early, but we have to face the fact that he is gone." The words coming from her mouth didn't even sound like they were flowing correctly. All Ronan heard was 'Cas' and 'gone'. He took a few gulping breaths of air, trying to clear his mind. Octavia climbed off of Ronan. He didn't get up right away. He just lay on the grass, looking up at the artificial sky.

No one touched the mourning tribute. Ronan was glad that no one tried to talk to him about the recent death of his brother. This isn't fair. They were supposed to make it home together, making their family more proud than anything in the world. But now, without his brother, there is no sense in going on. He can't come home alone. It just doesn't seem right if only one twin came home from the Games. Tears pricked his eyes, but no water leaked from the corners of his eyes. The cannons kept echoing in his ears. His brother's cannon seemed louder than what it should have been. The youngest girl from One walked over to Ronan and placed a bag of jerky and a bottle of water beside him without saying a word. Ronan dare not touch it. He would just stare at the sky until he could see the pink stretch over the darkness.

Gemstone 'Gem' Ethers, D1

All the cannons woke Gemstone from his sleep. It wasn't even his turn for lookout yet. Tobias was leaning against the wall, looking out the window. His eyes were trained on something. Clara was still asleep, resting her head on Gemstone's stomach. Gem slipped from underneath her, laying her on the ground without waking her from her peaceful sleeping. He walked over to the window, where Tobias kept looking through. Gem followed his gaze to a certain area, probably where the Games started four days ago. Tobias' eyes continued to stare at Central Park, just looking down. When Gemstone looked to the Park, Tobias broke the silence with a single number. "Eleven."

"Eleven?" Gemstone asked back.

"Eleven cannons." Tobias said back. "Must have been a giant fight at the Cornucopia. I saw some people running towards the Park, but then all I heard was screaming and cannons. I think someone important died down there."

Gemstone looked to Toby. "Important? What makes you say that?" Toby turned to him, with a strange look in his eyes.

"I hear screaming and crying." Toby answered back. "I could hear a girl yell out a name, Dandy, then another girl yell at another person. Everyone was yelling and screaming. I could see people run around like chickens with their heads cut off." Toby just looked out the window. A fire was burning in the center of the Park and a few people surrounded it.

Since the battle killed eleven tributes, the Careers decided to just stay there apparently. No one wanted to kill more than eleven tonight. Gem looked down to the Park, looking at the people surrounding the fire. Everyone was sitting around the fire or guarding the perimeter of Central Park. But one person is laying on the ground away from the group. He's just laying there, looking at the sky. Gemstone looks at him, trying to figure out who he was. But the fire didn't give him enough light to see the stripe on his jacket. He could only see the silhouette of the boy. Was he the one screaming and crying? Gemstone rubs his hands through his hair. This is the group that could kill him and Clara in just an instant. Maybe their deaths would be slow and painful, to punish him for abandoning the alliance to work with his cousin from Ten. They would probably make Clara suffer too.

He looked behind him to see her, sleeping and curled into her little ball. She looked so peaceful, so beautiful, as if she isn't in this hell of an arena. He turned back to Toby, who was still looking over the Careers. He didn't even look at him when he muttered a simple request to the boy from Fourteen. "We have to do whatever it takes to keep Clara alive and not me."

A/N: The fight has been done and over with and 11 fell to their deaths! To any of the tributes who fell, if they had sponsor points, I need the creators to PM me about what they would like to do with the points that are now in their banks. What did you think about the battle? Did you expect these tributes to fall? Write a review. I love to read your reviews. One more thing before I go. I have been working on this story for a full year now! It's been bumpy, but I am enjoying every second of writing this Quell. :)
