Chapter 35: The one who knocks

Robin and I look at each other.
"Daisy," I hear a familiar voice say; it's Lady. We open the door to see her clothes ripped, her hair messed up, and her makeup gone. I've always seen her so prim and proper, not dirty. She looks like a worker after a hard day of work. We hug her and close the door.
"You're alright," she sighs of relief.
"You are, too," I say smiling.
"Guys….Cecelia didn't make it."

My world stops for a minute.
"What?" I ask.
"She died. She went outside to see if it was safe, then took a bullet to the chest. She died for the group."
"I…."
"Daisy, you have a burn mark on your shoulder!"
"That's nothing! Cecelia died!" Lady begins crying. "I'm sorry," I say hugging her.
"It's safe to go outside now, their looking for survivors."
"Really?" Robin asks. Lady nods her head.
"Also, Mike made it out alive." Even though we weren't really close after the dance, we were still friends.

"Good," I say. We walk out onto the street. Everything is different. Even Scout looks surprised by how much everything has changed. The streets are cracked, and dead bodies lay all around. Some missing limbs lay on the ground.
"Don't look," Robin whispers to me.
"Daisy!" A woman screams; it's Suzie. Her clothes are dirty and her makeup is running down her cheeks. Her eyes are red from tears. She hugs me and I hug her back. She's been broken; something worse must have happened.
"Suzie," I say, "Where is Daniel and Sunny?"
"Who's this?" Robin asks.
"Robin, this is Suzie. My friend and sister of my escort. Suzie this is Robin, my…."
"Boyfriend," he says kissing my check.
"Daniel is dead, and I don't know where Sunny is! She could be dead, or alive, or WORSE!"
"Suzie, calm down," I say trying to console her as she breaks down in tears.

I feel like I'm about to cry; but I can't let Suzie see it and then get even more upset.
"Where did you last see her?" I ask. She leads me to the house they were hiding in; It looks like it's about to crumble.
"Things are blocking the door and I can't get in! There is a small hole, maybe you will fit!" I go through the small hole to see a bunch of ruble, and a body lying in the middle. The room is dark, except for a small ray of sunshine from a hole in the roof to a face of a body covered in blood.

"Sunny?" I ask.

She slowly picks her head up.
"Daisy, you made it," she says in a weak voice. I kneel beside her.
"Sunny, I-"
"You made me proud," she says as her voice weakens, "You didn't let me down."
"Sunny..." Her dark sin looks flushed, "Was I good?" I ask her for the final time.

"It's not my opinion that matters," she reminds me, "It's yours." Her head hits the floor and she stops breathing.
"In my opinion," I say to her corpse, "You were the best escort anyone could have."
I start crying loudly. Louder then I did when Rue, Lilly, Conner, Daniel, or Cecelia died. Robin runs in and sees me. He holds me and crates me back and forth.
"Sh…." He says, "It's okay beautiful."

We walk out of the room and I look at Suzie.
"Is she…?" I nod.
