"Have you heard?"
"What?"
"That there's an heiress!"
Severus sat at the little low lit cafe in the corner as he observed many people around him. He came to diagon alley to restock on a few things but decided to have a small lunch break. As he sat quietly with no one pay attention to him, he enjoyed his soup with a bit of reading of the Daily Prophet.
"An heiress? Is she one from the sacred twenty-eight?"
"Yes, and one that many thought was gone! No one knows if she is the real one or not. For the last heir was Sirius Black but he's a convicted man! A murder."
He glanced up to see two elderly witches speaking as one had a look of surprise on her face.
"There are rumors about her everywhere, but they say she might appear at the Malfoy Manor, this masquerade ball tonight."
"Oh I how I wish I was born into one of those high ranking pure blood families!"
"Well I say-"
Severus didn't listen anymore as he looked back at his paper to read. He has never heard of such an outrageous rumor but in the end he will know himself, because he was invited to the stupid ball. Narcissa and Lucius wanted to have a get together of those in the pure blood community, and he must say they do know how to throw quite a party at their manor.
Severus arrived at the manor about half an hour late. He let himself in as he saw the manor was lite bright to make the chandeliers above them shimmer. Many of the women wore extravagant gowns and robes while the men wore mainly black. A couple wore masks and as he gave a slight roll of his eyes he heard a familiar voice call to him.
"Ah, my dear friend, welcome."
He glanced to see Lucius walking over to him. His platinum white hair was combed back neatly as he wore his finest black suit. He still had that cane with him that hid his wand which Severus never understood why one would need such a thing. Lucius gave Severus a firm handshake as he said to him,
"It has been a while...How is that daft old wizard doing?"
"Dumbledore has been preparing for the triwizard tournament for the coming year and has made me work over time…"
"Ah well since this is on your own personal time please enjoy yourself. Here let me introduce you to some people."
Lucius introduced Severus to a few people but many already knew of Severus. He was famous as a brilliant potions master as well as being a skilled in many branches of sorcery. They walked through the house, walking down to the main hall where most people were, as they entered through the grand doors. There was classic music playing, floating trays of champagne, and people dancing on the dance floor. When they reached Narcissa she was speaking to a few of her own friends as she turned to look at her husband and Severus.
"Oh will you excuse me for a moment...Severus, it's lovely to see you again."
"...Indeed...Quite a party you have."
"Why of course! The triwizard tournament coming close and you never know whose child might be competing."
She nodded her head to a group of teens all dress, almost all wearing a mask as she turned to Severus.
"Please watch after them."
"...Of course…"
Then a sudden outburst by a few women exclaimed as Severus turned his head.
"Oh my!"
"Who is she?"
Some people turned to the front entrance as a young girl arrived. She wore an elegant, shoulder-less, midnight black gown. Around the cut where it exposed her collarbone were intricate silver embroidery along the fabric that help emphasis her graceful features as it went around her arms as well. There was even a simple sapphire droplet of a necklace around her neck that gave color to her outfit. Her gown was a bit long as it had a small train as it helped make her seem taller as well. Her silk black hair went down to her waist while her face was hidden behind a black feathered mask with thin silver vines and leaves around her eyes, emphasizing her grey iris to look almost silver.
Narcissa and Lucius walked up to the girl as Severus followed them, while everyone else tried to go back to what they were doing but were all curious of the new guest.
"I'm sorry miss but I'm afraid you weren't invited." Lucius said curtly while Narcissa tried not to give a look. The young girl have a soft smile as she replied to them,
"I do believe this ball was an invitation to those in pureblood families...Where are my manners, I should introduce myself. My name is Alice Black, pleasure to meet your acquaintance."
Lucius didn't look convince as he held his head high and looked down at her.
"Show yourself."
She slowly took off her mask as Narcissa gave a shocked gasp.
Her face was quite young, as she appears to be in Draco's year. She had high cheekbones and a small, slightly curved nose placed in a soft face with gentle yet strong grey eyes. Her skin was a bit lighter to be called fair as she gave a smile. She had the features of what the Black family would have except her eyes were different. She gave a curtsy while Severus heard another soft gasp escaping Narcissa's lips.
"...You...You..."
Narcissa couldn't get a single sentence out as Lucius stood tall next to her and stared down at the young girl. He slowly reached his hand out as she extended her out in return to give a hand shake.
"Pleasure to meet you Alice...I am Lucius Malfoy and this is my wife Narcissa…Dinner will be served soon and I invite you to sit with my family. Severus why don't you join us as well?"
Severus looked at Lucius as he gave a slow reply,
"...I accept…"
"Well thank you Sir, i would be happy to eat with you and your family."
The girl gave an curtsy as the couple turned. Lucius made the announcement for dinner as the guests all went to the dining room, where instead of the long table there were separate round tables instead. Everyone took their seats chattering away as Narcissa took Lucius' hand to walk to their table. Draco went to sit with the other teens at a separate table. Severus walked behind them while the girl next to him. She was thin but tall for her age as she reached where his eyes were. She walked with grace as if she has grown up with etiquette all her life.
As they all sat down as Lucius gave a quick snap of his fingers, making the food appear. It was first appetizers of a small salad with cherry tomatoes. He took a small bite before he heard Narcissa ask,
"Dear girl, may I ask...What is your back ground? I'm sorry if I sound rude but you look very much like my cousins."
"Oh I don't mind at all…My mother was a young witch from Beauxbaton, who met Sirius Black briefly. They met once more on accident and she was suddenly pregnant with me. You see my mother was a pureblood seer before she recently passed away from sickness. She knew what her future was and she didn't mind. She was quite happy when she delivered me. She raised me all my life without telling me about my father, though home schooled me and taught me how to be a proper lady, things that you would learn at Beauxbaton."
"Ah, an impressive young girl aren't you? What was your mother's name?"
"Claire Sinclair Imago. She was the sister of Inigo Imago, the famous seer and author of The Dream Oracle, but he passed away a few years before her. Also, yes I know enough to survive if that is what you mean."
"Please go on."
"Well after my mother passed away, there were was a letter addressed to me. One contained my mother's will and the other was my birth certificate with Sirius Black's signature on it. But with that they did a blood test to see if I truly was the heiress to the Black family and it came out positive."
Narcissa was completely still while Lucius had a snake like smile appear on his face.
"Do you have this proof?"
She took out her wand and gave a flick, making a piece of paper appear. There it said her name with the signatures on it. She handed it to Lucius and to Narcissa. Even Severus Snape glanced at it before looking back at the Malfoys'
"…It is his signature."
The next course came of a simple soup and as they continue to talk, and as they talked the more impressive the girl turned out to be. She had manners of a beauxbaton student, knowledge like a seventh year, and grace of that of a swan, as Narcissa commented. Narcissa ended up connecting to the girl quite a bit while Lucius kept asking her more questions to see any holes in her story, but everything was perfect.
"Will you be joining the tri-wizard tournament this coming year?"
Severus looked up as he saw Lucius inquire a question from the girl but she gave a simple smile and replied sweetly,
"I'm afraid not, I have not yet met the headmasters of various magic schools to see which is the best fit for me."
"Oh? Well what do you specialize in?"
"Well I am a naturally a seer so many would think I would want to go into divination but I prefer potions, alchemy, and the Dark Arts."
"My those are very interesting classes you enjoy. I don't think I got to introduce you to this man here. This is Severus Snape, who happens to be the potions master of Hogwarts."
The girl flickered her grey eyes at him as he placed his spoon down. She didn't seem very surprised at all and gave a little bow of her head.
"Pleasure to meet you Professor Snape…"
He gave nothing but a slight nod of his head and continued to eat.
He was getting quite bored of the party as everyone finished eating the main meal and dessert. Everyone started to move back to the main ballroom where they sat on couches and or danced on the dance floor. He heard nothing but chatter as he walked around, about the heiress of the Black family. It seemed she made quite an impression on everyone on an extremely positive note. He heard one woman say,
"My that girl is like a little crown jewel, so sweet and humble."
He rolled his eyes as he ran into Lucius talking to Draco. Draco bowed his head and left his father as Lucius turned to give a smile to Snape.
"Quite an impressive girl she is."
"Impressive? Hardly...She is nothing more that another rich girl in the community. The most impressive person I would say would be your wife for her intelligence and well upbringing."
"That is true."
Lucius excused himself as he went over to have a dance with his wife while Severus continued to wander. He got so irritated he went out to get some fresh air. He wandered to the Malfoy Manor garden, as the moon shined bright up in the sky.
"Lovely isn't it?"
He turned to see the young girl with her mask on, staring up at the sky. He gave a low grumble as he walked a few step away from her before he heard her ask,
"What is your favorite flower, sir?"
Severus gave a snort derisively and rolled his eyes as he stopped and glanced back,
"...Why on earth would I have a 'favorite flower'...Let alone answer such ridiculous question."
"I was just curious...You seem the type of man who would enjoy simple flowers...Like a Lily."
He froze for a moment as he turned his whole body to look at her.
"...Excuse me?"
She gave a smile before turning around and walking back into the room. He stood there dumbfounded until he realized she might get away. He quietly walked back in and looked around to find her gone. He spoke to Narcissa as she replied back,
"She left. She said we will see her soon...Hmm...Very peculiar child isn't she?"
Severus gave a low scowl and sneered looking out at one of the windows,
"Indeed...Peculiar indeed."
Lucius came back with a piece of paper in his hand as Narcissa asked,
"What's that dear?"
"I had someone quickly go to the ministry to look at a quick background check on this girl…Apparently everything she said was true."
"My…It really is going to be quite an interesting year. An interesting year indeed."
Serenity's POV
She arrived back home and was greeted by Valiant. She saw Kreacher down the hall as he nodded his head to her.
"Good night Kreacher."
He muttered something as she walked up to her room and saw there was light. She opened her door to see Sirius by the fireplace, staring at the flames. He looked up to see her at the door and gave a smile.
"Welcome home."
"It's good to be home…"
She walked in as she quickly changed her appearance, stripping away the fake mask she had now made for the outside world, and back to a face that she knows is hers.
"It's nice to see your face again...So how did it go?"
"They all believe me...They didn't seem surprised that you would have a secret daughter either."
"Well they always thought badly of me anyway."
"Anyways it seems as if they have accepted me...Just have to wait and see if they invite me again or not."
Sirius looks at her and gave a slight grin,
"You already know the answer, don't you?"
She was taking off her jewelry and glanced back at him with a smile and replied,
"I usually do."
Dumbledore stood by the fire, staring at the smoke as the wood burn. As time slipped through the night, his mind was always racing, thinking.
"She made her appearance…"
Albus muttered before turning to see the woman sitting in a chair, reading a book.
"I know."
She hid her face behind a black mask, only showing the bottom half of her face and her eyes. She slipped a bit of her raven hair behind her ear as her gray-green eyes flickered up at him.
"And when will you make yours?"
"…When the time is right."
He held up the time turner he received back from Miss Granger in his hand.
"She already said she wants to be an Auror."
The woman gave a soft chuckle as she whispers,
"Quite stubborn really, but it will pay off… I assume you already sent in the paperwork."
"Everything for her persona is set up, all placed as if she was a real secret child of Sirius'. I also sent yours in as well."
Soon the woman stood up and took the book she had in her hand to open it up to take out a tarot card. She handed it over to him as he heard her say.
"Perfect…The wheels of time are turning. It's the waiting game now."
In his hand was the Temperance card, making him muse at the sight of it.
"Yes…We will see."
