Charlie's POV
Peter and I pulled up to the club we believed Royce and James ran. We hopped out of the car and looked in the front windows, it was dead. We circled the building looking for any signs that would be useful to us. Peter opened up the back gate and we stepped inside, technically we were trespassing, but we weren't breaking and entering. We were only checking the place out, hoping that this was the right place. Peter was ahead of me, but I was looking more ahead than him. I grabbed his shoulder and stopped him.
"What?" he asked me confused.
Peter Buckley was a character that was for sure. I could tell that he was fiercely protective of Jasper and I wondered why that was. Every bad thing I said about Jasper was rebutted swiftly by Peter. Even when he found out that I was the Chief of police in Forks, he never backed down. He didn't like Jasper being attacked, but I had my reasons. That kid gave me hell growing up. He was always getting into trouble, fighting. I had picked him up countless times for speeding on his motorbike, he had a death wish and everyone knew it. His sister Rose spent many nights at my house because her brother was causing their parents too much grief. He just wasn't a good kid. I knew that was in the past and he could be different now, but in my experience people don't change that much.
The news that he was dating my Bella did not hit me well. I knew my Bella was brave and smart and would never put up with something or someone if she didn't believe in it, but it was my baby girl. I had already lost one daughter and I was in the process of losing my Bella. She was all I had left and I tried to protect her, but she was too stubborn and headstrong. She got it into her head that she was going to bring down Jane's attackers and I did everything I could to stop her, but the more I did, the further she pushed me away. I didn't want to lose her as well so I backed off. I hoped that once Royce and James had been brought to justice she would come back to me, but now I wasn't sure, maybe she was too far gone, especially if she was with that kid now.
I knew exactly what going deep undercover did to a person, it's how I lost my wife Renee, Bella's mom, well my ex-wife. In her eyes I had changed and she couldn't handle that, thankfully she left the girls with me, though maybe things would have worked out better if she took them with her. But now I knew, no matter how much Bella had changed, I would still be here for her.
"There's blood on the door and a puddle in the dirt," I told Peter. "We need to call this in."
"No," he protested. "What if they're in there?"
"Peter, whatever happened, has happened. We need to call it in so that nothing gets tampered with."
Peter didn't respond and I called it in. When I had finished the call I noticed that Peter had disappeared and the door was now wide open. I didn't hesitate and I ran in after him. I carefully skirted all the drops of blood on the ground and followed the trail to a door at the back. I stood in the doorway and looked down the stairs. Peter was standing on the bottom step, just standing there, not moving. Oh god, what had happened? There was so much blood everywhere in the club. I didn't want to descend the stairs, but I knew that I must.
I walked down the stairs and stood behind Peter, looking over his shoulder. This was definitely where the prisoners were kept. There were two chairs, one of which was knocked over. There were cut cable ties and some still attached to the chairs. The worst was the blood, it was everywhere, and most importantly there was a big pool on the ground, outlining the shape of a body. I breathed a sigh of relief when I noticed that the outline was too big to be Bella. Maybe she was okay, but I no longer believed that. And Jasper, well things didn't look good for him either. Peter had said they had been missing since Monday, maybe even longer, and it was now Thursday. The circumstances were not good.
I heard a noise upstairs.
"Peter, we've got to move," I told him, grabbing him and dragging him up the stairs when he didn't respond.
We headed back towards the main part of the club, but we weren't met by the cops. There was a man with dirty blonde hair throwing gasoline everywhere. Damn, why didn't I bring my gun?
"Put your hands in the air!" I yelled loudly as I reached into my jacket. The man freaked and ran out of the club, I gave chase, but he jumped into a car and took off.
"Who was that?" Peter asked me, but I didn't answer. I had no idea. I did have a detailed description of him and the license plate number, so I knew the police would be able to chase him up quickly. I also didn't fail to notice the blood on his clothes. He was definitely involved and he had come back to destroy the evidence.
The police finally showed up and I explained everything to them, all about the mystery guy and the fact that Peter had entered and I went in after him. They questioned us both and then we were free to leave. It seemed final, I knew it wasn't in my jurisdiction, but I just had to try. I explained to them that I was the Chief of police in Forks and my daughter was one of the victims. The guy in charge said he could make no promises, but he would talk to his supervisor about bringing me in.
I pulled Peter away from the club, he was a mess. He wouldn't talk to me and I could tell that he was plotting his revenge. I put him in my car and took off. I needed to keep a close eye on him or he would undoubtedly do something stupid.

...
"The police are now confirming that missing therapist Jasper Whitlock is involved in the Main Street Massacre, but authorities believe that he had been kidnapped by the club owners, Royce King and James Hunter. Please be on high alert for James Hunter, if you see him call the authorities immediately."

"This just in. Isabella Swan, suspected drug dealer has been linked to the case, it is unknown at this stage whether she is a victim or a perpetrator, but the police have urged the public to be on high alert for her and if they see her they are not to approach her because she could be dangerous."
James' POV
"Could be dangerous? What is this? Bella isn't dangerous. They think she killed them, I just know it. This is not possible. Bella would never kill anyone, she was dead, Royce killed her."
I picked up the phone and dialed 911.
"What is your emergency?"
"My name is James Hunter and I would like to confess to the murder of Royce King. I am at my place of residence, 270 Worth Street and I am not armed. I will surrender myself willingly... Just please come and arrest me. I just want this to be over and done with."
...
"Breaking news. James Hunter has turned himself in. Not many details have surfaced, but he's confessed to the murder of Royce King. It is still not known who killed Felix Carter, but the police are thinking that Hunter is involved. …Further details just coming through, it has been revealed that Isabella Swan is dead… It is not confirmed and no body has been found as of yet."
Peter's POV
She's dead, Bella's dead. James swears by it. I was behind the glass when they were interrogating him. I saw his reaction when he was asked about her. She was dead and he was devastated. I couldn't believe she was dead, and Jasper was still missing. I no longer felt hope, only devastation. James claims to know nothing about the fate of Jasper, but what else could have happened, especially if Bella was dead. This was not how it was supposed to all work out.
My phone rang and I pulled it from my pocket. I didn't even bother to speak.
"Peter?" A voice asked and I temporarily snapped out of my bad mood.
"Bella? Bella is that really you?" I could see Charlie turn to face me. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, Pete, I'm okay."
She sounded so broken, so dead.
"Jasper, he's with you right? He's okay right?"
"Peter," she said before pausing. "Yes, he's with me."
Good, good. I knew he wasn't dead.
"Listen, Peter," Bella said and I could tell she was trying to keep it together. "It's not good, Pete, it's not good."
"Bella?" What was going on?
"It's Jasper, Peter, he's… I… Just…"
"Bella, please just tell me." I just needed to know.
"He's… I've got to go, Peter. I need to be with him, he can't be alone, not any longer. Goodbye."
"Bella! Bella!" No, she hung up, she hung up on me.
I was vaguely aware of Charlie taking the phone from me.
"Bella?" he questioned, but it was too late, she was gone. "Peter, what did she say? Is she okay?"
"She's okay," I said blankly.
"Peter, what did she say to you?"
"It's Jasper, she didn't say it outright, but…" I trailed off. I couldn't bring myself to say it, but there was no doubt in my mind.
"Say what, Peter?"
"Jasper, he's dead."
