Hermione
Hermione waited impatiently at the table. It was already ten minutes into dinner and neither Ron or Harry, nor Percy had yet to show up. When she looked around for Annabeth and Grover at their respective tables, she couldn't see them either. She hoped nothing bad had happened.
Finally, the doors to the dining hall open and they walked in, laughing and talking with each other, save for Ron who was covered in mud. Percy kissed Annabeth on the cheek before following Harry and Ron over to the Gryffindor table, walking away from Grover and Annabeth.
"It's not funny," Ron insisted, plopping down beside Hermione and crossing his arms.
"Dude, it's pretty funny," Percy laughed.
"What is or isn't funny, exactly?" Hermione asked, feeling desperately uninformed.
"Percy's giant Grim knocked me into the pumpkin patch," Ron grumbled. Hermione frowned in confusion.
"Is that some sort of code?" she wondered. Percy laughed.
"Nico called my pet hellhound Mrs. O'Leary to come and pick us up so we can shadow travel back to camp instead of having to fly home," Percy explained.
"That didn't make any more sense than what Ron said," she sighed.
"I have this dog, right? Except she's taller than Hagrid, and comes from the Underworld. She can do this thing called shadow traveling. Pretty much, she can teleport us places. And... yeah, that's it," he shrugged. Hermione frowned, trying to process all of this new information.
"Percy took us to see her. She's staying at Hagrid's," Harry said.
"And that's when Ron got pushed in the mud," Hermione said, guessing the rest of the story. Harry and Percy laughed and Ron through a bread roll at them. It sailed directly in between their heads and hit some kid at the Ravenclaw table. Ron cursed under his breath and ducked his head.
Hermione smiled. Though part of her was jealous that Harry and Ron had become close with the demigods (and Grover), something that used to be seldom to Hermione, she instead decided to be grateful they were finally getting along.
"So, have you decided when you'll be leaving yet?" Hermione asked Percy.
"Not yet. Soon though. A couple of days?" he estimated. "Mrs. O'Leary still needs time to rest up. It's going to take a lot of energy for her to transport so far with so many people."
"I'd love to see her," Hermione said, a wondering smile spreading across her face.
"Sure. Why don't you come with us tomorrow to visit her," Percy suggested.
"Perfect."
Hermione imagined a sweet floppy-eared beagle dog the size of Fang, maybe a bit bigger. She knew Percy had said Mrs. O'Leary was taller than Hagrid, but she simply guessed he was exaggerating. That's why the next day, the last day of the weekend, she was so surprised to see that Mrs. O'Leary was a giant heaping mass of fur that that looked six times bigger than Fang.
"N-nice doggy," Hermione spluttered out, her back rigid. The massive shaggy dog sniffed her head. "Is she going to e-eat me?" she gulped.
"Mrs. O'Leary wouldn't hurt a fly! Or, well, maybe she would, but she wouldn't hurt any of us," Percy said. Nonetheless, he must have sensed her discomfort and nudged Mrs. O'Leary over.
"She's... quite something," Hermione said, giving a wobbly smile. She brought her hand up to the dog's face and rubbed her forehead cautiously.
"Do you think you'll leave tomorrow?" Hermione asked, looking at Annabeth who was closest to her. She nodded.
"What if..." Hermione's voice trailed off. Annabeth looked at her questioningly. "What if Voldemort comes back?"
"You guys are perfectly capable of handling it yourself, I'm sure of it," Annabeth said encouragingly.
"Yeah, and besides, he can't get into Hogwarts. As long as we're here, we're safe," Harry said.
"I know," Hermione said, shrugging half-heartedly. "But I worry." Ron walked over to her and squeezed her hand reassuringly, taking her slightly by surprise. She was grateful all the same.
"Hey, Hermione," Ginny said, appearing behind her at breakfast the next morning.
"Oh, hey, Ginny. Have you seen Harry or-"
"No. Why would I have seen Harry?" Ginny asked quickly, her cheeks reddening a bit. Hermione frowned slightly.
"Or your brother," she finished slowly. Ginny seemed to relax a little.
"Sorry, no," she told her. Hermione shrugged, then looked over her shoulder to see Harry and Ron walking up to them.
"Hey, Ginny," Harry said, grinning. Ginny smiled back.
"Percy, Annabeth, and Grover are leaving soon. You should hurry and eat if you want to say good-bye." Hermione said. Ginny frowned.
"They're leaving?" she wondered. Hermione nodded.
"Oh, well, tell them good bye for me. I'd come myself, but I told Dean I'd meet him in the library," she said. "I'll see you later."
"Bye," Harry called after her, watching her go. Hermione raised her eyebrow, sensing something unspoken between the two of them. She decided to ignore it for the time being.
"Finish up," Hermione said impatiently, seeing Percy and Annabeth lingering near the door, no doubt waiting for Grover. They had their bags with them and were dressed in matching orange shirts, which Hermione thought was a bit strange.
"We just got here," Ron groaned, grabbing a muffin from the tray in front of him.
"Well, eat while you walk," she coaxed. Ron sighed and grabbed two more chocolate-chip muffins. Harry grabbed a muffin too, along with an apple and the three of them walked towards Percy and Annabeth.
"Are you waiting for Grover?" Hermione asked.
"Yeah, he's saying good-bye to his roommates, I think," Percy said, leaning on the wall. At that moment, Grover walked up to them, carrying an oversized bag.
"Ready," he said.
All six of them walked out the doors to the Great Hall and towards Hagrid's hut. As they walked, Grover rambled on about how excited he was to see his girlfriend, Juniper. He was practically skipping.
At Hagrid's hut, Nico stood outside with Mrs. O'Leary. The boy still looked deathly pale and rather hollow, but he did look better than the day before. He swung his black sword absentmindedly through the air. All and all, he looked pretty scary.
"There you guys are," Nico said, putting his sword back in his sheath. "Did you bring me any breakfast?" he asked. Percy stopped, muttered something Hermione didn't understand, and rubbed the back of his neck.
"No, sorry," Percy said. Hermione looked over at Ron who had two full muffins in his hand. She snatched one from him and held it up.
"Is this okay?" she asked, ignoring Ron's protests and attempts to take his muffin back.
"Yeah, thanks. Toss it," Nico said. Hermione pursed her lips, frowned slightly, and tossed the muffin as accurately as she could. Nico caught it, despite her throw being off.
"So, are we good to go?" Nico asked before taking a bite of the muffin.
"Yeah," Percy said. "I guess we say goodbye now."
Ron, to Hermione's slight surprise, was the first one to step forwards. He went over to Grover and started talking to him. Hermione took his example and walked over to Annabeth and Percy with Harry.
"It was cool meeting you guys," Percy said earnestly.
"You too. Despite almost dying part, that is," Harry said, laughing slightly.
"Hermione, thanks for everything," Annabeth said, pulling her into a hug. Though Hermione was surprised at first, she returned the gesture.
"Oh! Ginny says good bye," Harry remembered.
"She said she wanted to say good bye herself, but she had to meet her boyfriend," Hermione explained.
Percy frowned, looking confused. "I thought you and Ginny were a couple," he said, motioning to Harry. His eyes widened.
"Ginny? No... no!" Harry insisted.
"No?" Hermione asked jokingly.
"No," Harry said definitely. "Besides, Ron would have a heart attack," he added under his breath. Hermione smiled. She and Harry said their good byes to Grover and stood back as Percy, Annabeth, and Grover stood beside Mrs. O'Leary, Nico slightly to the side.
"It's been real!" Percy called, waving his hand.
"Thanks," Nico said, less enthusiastically and turned. He walked beneath the shadow of Hagrid's hut and disappeared. Hermione watched wide eyed as Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, all holding onto tufts of Mrs. O'Leary's hair, turned to where Nico had vansihed. They stepped into the shadows and Hermione felt a sort of sadness pressing in on her. She had only known them for a short period of time, but already they had been through a lot together. They had changed her life.
The shadows swallowed them up.
And just like that, they were gone.
I have gotten quite a few reviews saying stuff like "Oh, don't make them leave Hogwarts!", and I UNDERSTAND YOU DON'T WANT THE STORY TO END! I DON'T EITHER! But, as you know, all good things must come to an end in order to make room for even more. So, although I love that you are enjoying the story, the PJO trio is going home to Camp Half-Blood. Not only that, but by keeping the trio at Hogwarts, it's almost like indirectly disregarding the Heroes of Olympus series exists, something I'd never want to do! So, I hope you understand why the story must end!
There IS going to be an epilogue, after which I'm going to give my final good bye to this story. It will be in Hermione's POV.
For now, dear readers, a thought: The french word for good-bye, au revoir, translates directly to "Till we meet again." Go ahead, think about that ;)
