Our Vole Family
Jack's P.O.V
I have a small secret. I haven't told anyone about it, not the guys, and especially not Kim. I actually can't tell her, it's a surprise, and I know she'll love it.
I've been keeping this secret for about a year now, and I honestly can't wait to get it off my chest. I never keep stuff from Kim, so this is my only secret she doesn't know about.
Right now, Kim and I are walking through the school halls, hand in hand, with a cute smile on her face and anxiety on mine. I just can't wait to show her the surprise.
As we approached our lockers, which are bedside each other (Kim of Kong) Kim noticed the look on my face and looked at me skeptically.
"Jack? Something on your mind…?" She asked me, with a small smile.
"Nah, it's nothing," she looked at me, raising a brow, "It'll all be revealed later." I assured her, while smiling sweetly.
She still looked a little confused, until I winked at her and she realized I was up to something.
We got our books out of our lockers and Kim said,
"I gotta get to French. Bye Jackie, I'll see you at lunch…?" she seemed a little unsure, I smiled and nodded, agreeing, before she smiled back and kissed my cheek then walked away, to her class.
I sighed happily while watching my girl, I'm excited to show her my surprise. But first I need to talk to Rudy about it, he needs to help.
I walked off to math, thinking about Kim and how I know she'll love my idea. Kim has such a warm heart, she's so nice and kind and caring. She tries to protect everyone in need, which is just another thing I love so much about her. Although Kim has a short temper, she actually does love helping, she loves giving people that happy feeling, it always makes me happy seeing her help. Some people just think of Kim as some girl who gets mad a lot and hurts people, and that she can be conceited sometimes but nobody knows Kim like I do. I know Kim loves to be nice, I know Kim has the kindest personality and I know Kim always wants the best for everyone. She's my Kim, she's amazing and she's gonna love what I have planned.
I sat in my seat in the class room and Mr. Funderberg walked in. What's he doing here?
"Students, your usual math teacher isn't here. He's sick. Or as I call it forcing me to take of you guys and not letting me relax. Anyway, take your seats, today we're gonna…we're gonna, do a worksheet about multiplication." He announced to the class.
He's kidding right? Multiplication!? We took that years ago, that for little kids. Fine, whatever.
He handed out the sheets and I immediately began mine, knowing the sooner I start, the sooner I finish and get to think about my plan.
The questions were easy like: 10X10 and 2X24 I finished in like 5 minutes and sighed.
Is Mr. Funderberg even fit to be a teacher? Anyway, I began imagining what Kim's reaction will be. I know she'll be happy. I mean, how can she not be? This idea is perfect. I just need Rudy to agree and then the gang and I are off, but most importantly Kim.
I began thinking about how hot she is, and even though I always think about how beautiful she is and her personality, instead, I wanted to just think about my girlfriend is seriously the most adorable girl I've ever met. I mean come on, with those deep, brown, chocolaty eyes of her and her lips that are so soft and can curve into the most perfect smile and her golden blonde hair that flows and bounces on her shoulder so delicately…Okay, I guess it's impossible for me to think of Kim as anything other than beautiful, I just can't think of how hot she is because although she is extremely hot, it's the word that does her least justice.
As I was thinking all this, the bell suddenly rang, causing me to come out of my daydreaming and back into reality. The reality where I can see Kim…Great! I missed her. Hey, can't a girl miss his girlfriend without getting that look from you? I know it's only been like an hour, but what can I do, I love that girl so much.
Anyway, I got up and went to the cafeteria to meet Kim and the guys.
I walked in and saw Kim talking to the guys at our usual table, I walked over to them and sat beside Kim.
"Hey Kimmy." I said, smiling while kissing her cheek.
"I told you Jerry, for the thousandth time-" She turned to me and replied, "Hey Jack," with a smile before going back to Jerry, "Lions are big, vicious and…WILL EAT YOU! You can't catch one."
"Yo, not cool, man-" Cue Kim's glare, "I mean…Not cool Kim, not cool. Can't a guy dream?" Jerry replied, upset.
"Jerry, you do realize if you try to catch a lion, you won't live any longer. Besides, lions can't be found in this region, unless in zoos, it is scientifically proven…" Milton rambled on.
This is about the time Kim and I stop paying attention and start our own conversation.
"So, can you tell me why you were so excited before?" Kim asked me, with a smile and slight puppy-dog-eyes. Awe man, those always get me. No stay strong Jack. Don't tell her yet.
"Sorry Kimmy, I can't…" I said, with a little sadness in my voice. I hate keeping stuff from Kim.
Her puppy-dog-face grew and she pouted, "Please Jackie…" she said so cutely I had to use all my will power to not tell her.
"I can't Kimmy." I told her, my eyes showing that I was sorry.
She dropped the look and looked a little sad, then asked, "Jack…Are you keeping something from me?"
"Kimmy, don't worry, I'll tell you really soon, I promise. I would never keep something from you." I told her, honestly. I would never keep something from Kim, I'm gonna tell her as soon as Rudy agrees and helps me out and I'd never lie to her.
After a couple more classes, it was finally time to go to the dojo. Kim and I met by the lockers.
"Kimmy, I gotta go do something real quick. I'll meet you at the dojo, okay?" I asked her, happily, with a sweet smile. This is it, I'm gonna go ask Rudy for help.
"Um…Okay, sure." She said, smiling back. I'm glad she's not suspicious, but I know Kim trusts me.
I gave her a kiss on the cheek, making her smile widen, before I quickly ran out of the school.
I walked into the dojo and straight into Rudy's office.
"Hey Rudy…" I said, but trailed off when I saw he was playing with a toaster.
"Hey Jack. You're here early, what's up?" He asked me.
"Um…I was wondering if we could go camping?" I asked him with a smile.
"Sure, that'll be fun. Planning something for Kim, right?" He asked, knowingly.
"Pffft, no. why would you think that?" I lied, trying to act confused.
"Jack, I may act silly sometimes but I am smart." He told me while standing up and sticking his hand into the toaster.
"Uh…Thanks Rudy." I said, a little worried about how he just put his hand into a hot toaster. I walked out and into the dojo and heard an ear piercing shriek seconds later.
Just then Kim and the guys walked into the dojo. I jogged over to Kim and held her hand while asking, "Hey Kimmy, ready for practice?"
"Yeah, did you finish what you needed to do?" She asked me sweetly.
"Yup, and don't worry, I'll tell you all about it soon." I said, as I kissed her cheek before running into the changing rooms.
Kim's P.O.V
So Jack's keeping something from me, it's a little weird cause Jack tells me everything, but I trust him. I know that there's a good reason he's not telling me.
He just kissed my cheek and ran into the changing room, I laughed while shaking my head, my boyfriend's such a goof.
I walked into the changing room and when I came out Rudy was just walking out of his office and called us over.
"Okay guys, I was thinking, how about this weekend, we all go camping!?" I saw him wink at Jack. Hmmm…what's he up to?
"Is this gonna be like the time you locked us in the dojo and made us 'camp'?" Milton asked putting air quotes on the word 'camp'.
"Nope. We're gonna camp in the woods, for real." He replied, happily.
Jack was smiling and nodding the whole time, then he put his arm around me and kissed my cheek.
"Why are you so happy?" I asked him, giggling a little.
"I'm just happy we'll have some more time together…" He trailed off, and just as I gave him a skeptical look and raised a brow, he winked at me. Which sent sparks through me.
Next Day, The Weekend For Camping
Today, the gang and I are going camping in the woods, it'll be fun. Jack was acting really happy and excited yesterday, I wonder why…Well, it's probably got something to do with what he's keeping from me, but he told me he'd tell me soon.
I walked into the dojo, Jack with me and holding my hand, like always. But I'm not complaining, I love holding Jack's hand. It gives me warmth and makes me feel safe knowing he's with me.
Anyway, we walked into the dojo and saw Rudy with a huge backpack filled with most probably useless stuff. He had a huge smile on his face and jumped up when he saw us.
"Hey guys, ready to go camping?" He asked happily.
I nodded and Jack smiled, then looked at me for a while.
I looked at him with an expression that said, 'what?'
He just leaned down and kissed me. When we pulled away he replied, "I just really wanted to do that."
I giggled a little and blushed.
Rudy started jumping up and down saying how excited he is. Then Milton walked in looking exhausted.
"Sup Milton?" Jack asked him, noticing his tired expression too.
"I stayed up all night packing. I needed to bring all my science books plus I brought some disinfectant. The woods can cause so many diseases." He explained, really boringly, if I might add.
Jack rolled his eyes while shook my head and then Jerry burst in happily, knocking Milton down by hitting him with the door. Haha, that was kinda funny.
"Yo! I'm ready to go camping! It's gonna be swag!" Jerry yelled excitedly.
Okay…Well, this should be a fun weekend.
Jack's P.O.V
We walked over to the area we were going to build the skate park (Skate Rat) and set down our stuff.
"Well, we're here. This weekend's gonna be great guys!" Rudy announced.
Well, I know it's gonna be great for Kim and I, I can finally show her my surprise.
"Swag! This place is super awesome. It's swasome! WHOOO-AHHHH!" Jerry yelled, then saw a baby snake slither it's way over and screamed.
"Jerry, man up, it's just a snake…I mean, it's not like it has fangs and diseases and can fill you with it's poisonous venom…" Milton nervously said to our Latino friend.
"Rudy! Can we go now!? This place is so not swag anymore!" Jerry pleaded, terrified.
"Guys, it's a baby snake. It's no big deal." I told them as I took ahold of it and set it down a little away from our camping area.
"Thanks man. That thing was terrifying…" Jerry thanked me as I walked back over to Kim.
She and I face palmed before we all just sat down and began taking out something to do.
Milton grabbed one of his science books and Rudy took out one of his useless objects. Jerry had already started looking for a snack in his bag.
Kim and I just sat there and talked, enjoying our time together.
"So, what do you wanna do the next couple days?" Kimmy asked me.
I didn't reply, I was just staring at her. "Jack?" She asked, then started waving her hand in front of my face which brought me out of my trance.
"Huh? Oh, sorry Kim. You know, your eyes really sparkle here." I told her, smiling dreamily at her. She blushed a little before kissing my cheek.
"Why are you so sweet?" Kimmy asked, looking deep into my eyes.
"I'm not Kimmy, only with you." I told her, looking back into her eyes.
We started to lean in and were about to kiss when suddenly there was a loud noise. We pulled away and looked at Jerry who now had a backpack over his head and was running around in circles.
We rolled our eyes, then Rudy and Milton got up and helped Jerry get the bag off him.
Kim and I just kept talking, we just love talking to each other cause it feels so nice just enjoying our time together, relaxing.
"Hey Kimmy, remember that thing I was excited about…?" I asked her, quietly.
She nodded, her eyes holding a soft touch to them.
I leaned in and kissed her for a while before we pulled a part and she rested her head on my shoulder, with my arm around her.
"I'll tell you soon." I whispered to her.
Rudy started getting out some snacks and said he was gonna make us some lunch.
Okay, I hope he makes lunch better than he makes toast.
He passed around some burgers that he made with a portable barbeque. Like I said before, useless stuff, but I guess it did kinda help us.
Anyway, we all ate our burgers and after a couple hours of just chilling, it was getting kinda late. The darker it got, the more stars were in the sky which made Kim look even more stunning with her eyes sparkling and her hair shining.
Rudy and Jerry started setting up the tent and Milton went back to reading his science book.
It's time to show Kim my surprise.
"Hey Kimmy?"
"Hm?" She asked, looking down from the sky, where she was star gazing.
"I wanna show you something." I told her with a soft smile. She looked kinda confused, so I just held her hand and led her away from the guys. Rudy and Jerry were now tangled in the tent and yelling for Milton who was too engaged in his book.
I led Kim over to the area were the vole lived from about a year ago.
"Jack, what are we doing here?" She asked me, still confused.
"This is what I was so excited about…" I said before walking into the bushes and leading out 3 voles.
Kim looked shocked and then gained a smile.
"Is this…?" Kim asked me, happily.
I nodded then replied, "Kimmy, this is the vole, and his new family."
"But…I thought they were rare?" Kim asked me.
"Yeah, they are, but after the whole skate park incident, I've been coming here every month to check on the vole. I was looking around for some food for him, then I found another vole, a girl vole."
Kimmy smiled widely at me.
The third vole is a baby vole but Kim understood that.
The vole crawled over to Kim and she leaned down and held. I squated down beside her and we sat there together with the vole. He brought over his family and we both just watched them as they played together and climbed on top of Kim's head. It was kind of funny. We both just burst out laughing.
After our laughter died down we just looked at the vole as he sat with his family.
"Jack?" Kim asked, her head resting on my shoulder.
"Yeah Kimmy?"
"Why'd you do this?" she asked, and I saw a small smile on her face.
"Because the vole was important to you." I told her, honestly, also smiling.
She took her head off my shoulder and gave me a long, sweet kiss.
When we pulled apart, the baby vole crawled onto Kim's lap making us both laugh a little.
She just smiled at it for a while, as I stared at her, also smiling.
"What do you wanna call'em?" I asked her, softly.
She glanced at me with a small smile before looking back at the baby vole and replying,
"J."
"Why?" I asked her, curious as to why she chose that.
"It's short for Jack." she told me, still smiling down at the vole.
I immediately gained a smile when she said that.
After a couple more minutes of playing with the voles, Kim and I got up, about to go back to the guys.
"I'll miss them." she told me, happily, a smile implanted on her face since the moment she saw the voles.
"They'll always be our vole family, Kimmy." I told her, happily, also smiling.
We walked over to the guys and Milton had finally helped Rudy and Jerry with the tent.
"Where'd you guys go, yo?" Jerry asked us.
"Visiting an old friend." I told them, smiling while winking at Kim.
After a while of playing games and Kim and I helping out with the tent, we finally got to sleep.
Kim and lied down beside each other in the tent, her head on my chest.
"Are the voles gonna be okay, Jack?"
"We'll find out next month." I told her sweetly, a smile on my face.
She quickly got up and kissed my cheek before lying down again, her head back on my chest, making me feel happy knowing that I'm keeping her safe.
And after that, I would bring Kim with me everytime I went to visit the voles.
They'll always be our vole family.
