CHAPTER 34
It had been a week since Ziva had been discharged. Her doctor had prescribed certain medication that Ziva could take that might help her keep her pressure down and hence protect the little ones heart as well.
Ziva went to the doctor's office twice every week, each time praying that her child was safe and still alive.
She tried everything in her power to make sure her daughter was safe and healthy inside. She had a yoga instructor come over and practice exercises to soothe her and help her with the birth.
With the due date approaching closer, Ziva's nerves just trumped over all her efforts of calming down. She burst into tears at times unexpected. And when Tony was not home, she would go to the nursery and sit on the rocking chair and cry falling asleep in the process.
All her dreams were getting disturbing by the day and so one Saturday afternoon exhausted at all her efforts she planned on doing something different.
"Tony." she spoke to him as they sat on the couch watching a movie.
"Yeah." he answered.
"Will you take me to a place that I ask for, today?" she asked softly.
Tony had a frown on his face, "Where do you want to go, baby?" he asked.
"I'll show you. Just can we leave now?" Ziva pleaded.
They drove for an hour with Ziva giving him directions and Tony trying to guess where they were headed to. After some time they reached a clearing with a road that went a little away with trees forming and arch over the road.
The day was hot but Ziva and Tony got out of the car and walked hand in hand on the road with the canopying trees.
After a minutes' walk they reached a towering structure that was old and rustic, but that breathed of calm and peace of mind.
"Synagogue." Tony said with a bright smile. Having guessed their destination correctly at last.
"Good guess Tony." Ziva said and headed inside. Tony followed her to the front door.
Ziva turned around and looked into Tony's eyes, "I know you don't follow Judaism, so it is alright if you want to stay outside" she said softly.
Tony smiled slightly and took her hand in his and led her inside. They stayed there in the synagogue for about an hour. Ziva sitting there her eyes closed and praying to the deity she trusted.
Tony admired the simple beauty of her faith and felt guilty that he hadn't visited his spiritual side for a very long time. Yet seeing Ziva there all peaceful and faithful he was contended that she found something to keep her mind at ease.
Tony went to stand outside the synagogue giving Ziva some time of her own. He looked out towards the road they had just walked through and the beautiful framing of the trees, he now understood why she wanted to come here of all the synagogues they could have gone in the town.
Ziva came behind him and wound her arms around his waist and placed her cheek on his shoulders. Her lips were near his ears. She placed a light kiss on his ear lobe and whispered, "Beautiful isn't it?"
"Hmm hmm." he replied.
Ziva looped her arm through his and stood by his side with her head on his shoulders.
Seeing the peaceful, almost serene expression on her face, Tony was overwhelmed with love that he had for this woman. He saw this as the perfect time for what he had been planning for years. As if it is now that the stars had aligned. That somehow it should be in front of this holy sanctuary away from civilisation that they were meant to start their journey together.
Tony took his arm out from her grasp and turned her so that she was looking at him, Ziva had a soft smile on her face and the first relaxed features he had seen since that fateful night of discovery.
Tony had tears brimming his eyes making his vision blurry, yet he wasn't mistaken when he leaned down and kissed her. He held her face and she looped her arms around his neck. Letting each other feel the love running through their veins.
They broke away from the kiss and Tony felt nervous and happy all at the same time.
"God! You are so beautiful. If there is any time in my past that I doubted, love, for even a second, I seriously apologise for that. Because here she is, my better half, my soul mate. The woman who made me whole. Standing right in front of me. For whatever it is that I have done to be blessed to meet you, I am grateful."
"Ziva David, I may have a strong dislike for your father, for what he has put you through. But I can't thank him enough for making you and sending you right into my arms. I have told you countless times that you are the one for me. That I am in love with you with all my being, but my beautiful angel will you give me a lifetime to say that to you, to show you how much I love you?" Tony said.
Ziva had her mouth open in shock and surprise at what was unfolding in front of her. "Tony..." she said unable to form any more words.
Tony let go off her arms and was down in one of his knees, he took out the velvet box with a racing heart, and opened it to reveal a stunning diamond ring. Ziva gasped at the unexpected proposal and put a hand over her mouth.
"Ziva David, I have loved you from the moment I laid my eyes on you. And through all that we have been through in this lifetime, I have loved you. And whatever happens hence forth I can't see a life without being in love with you. Ziva will you do me the honour of marrying me and being my wife?" he proposed, praying to all the gods that she will not reject.
Ziva had tears streaming down her face and she was biting her lips nervously, with much difficulty she kneeled down in front of her man and held his face and smiled at him.
She nodded her head and stammered, "yes, Anthony DiNozzo. I love you so much. I would be honoured to be your wife. I will marry you Tony." she said as she leaned her forehead against his and kept crying happy tears.
Tony slipped the ring on to her finger and kissed her passionately. When they broke apart Tony helped her up and she was looking at her brand new engagement ring.
"It's really beautiful Tony" she said gazing into his eyes.
"Something beautiful for the perfect woman." he said with the biggest smile on his face.
