"Banner. You want me to help you get the Hulk. Are you NUTS?" Christie exclaimed, as Natasha got her bag out of the backseat.
"Well I'm not kidding if that's what you're thinking," Natasha scoffed, slamming the backseat of the car door and rushing to the private runway where the private plane was sitting.
"Okay well what if he kills me? Actually it's not like I have much to live for," Christie mumbled, following her.
"I don't know what you mean, but you're being more miserable than usual," Natasha observed, climbing the steps.
"Yeah, long story," Christie mumbled.
"Go on," Natasha nodded, whilst sitting down in one of the leather seats. Christie sniffed and sat down in the one opposite.
"No I would rather not," she said quietly.
"That's okay. Coulson's already told me," Natasha dismissed.
"I thought as much," Christie grumbled angrily.
"We had to find out sometime," Natasha shrugged. She glanced out of the window as the plane took off. "Did you love him?"
"Excuse me?" Christie asked, making sure she heard right.
"Loki. Did you love him?"
"Yeah I did," Christie said.
"How are you gonna see him die?" Natasha asked her.
"What?"
"Well when all of the avengers get him, how are you gonna see him die?"
"Well I once said I'd rather Loki died a monster than come back evil," Christie sighed heavily. But then her stomach clenched at the idea of Loki potentially leaving her forever and hated it. "But they might not kill him."
"Oh please," Natasha scoffed. "He's got our own under his spell. He's not getting away with it. If they don't kill him I will."
Soon, Natasha had convinced Banner to come along and they were in the helicarrier again, which was currently stationed on the water. "Captain," Natasha nodded at Steve, who looked on in awe.
"Agent," he said politely. He noticed Christie standing there. "Agent," he nodded to her.
"Captain," Christie said back. "Enjoying the view?" The Captain gave a deep sigh and nodded. Banner came up behind them and stood with them.
"Nice, a pressurised air container, looks like fun," he mused, making Natasha raise her eyebrows and Christie to smile slightly - the first time in a long time.
"Gentlemen? You may wanna step inside, it's gonna get a little hard to breathe," Natasha smiled. Steve and Bruce blinked and took a step back, when suddenly the helicarrier slowly began to hover into the air.
"Oh no this? This is much worse," Banner said to himself.
"You'll be fine," Christie said quietly. "Just stay happy."
"Easier said than done," Bruce shrugged.
"Yeah. Come with me," Christie told them both. "We should go and show you where you're staying."
"Yeah come on," Natasha said to them, making her way down a flight of steps that seemed to go deeper into the Helicarrier. They showed the boys the control room where Fury stood.
"Dr Banner, it's a pleasure to meet you," Fury nodded, shaking his hand.
"Pleasure to be here," Banner said uncertainly.
"How long are you here for?" Natasha asked him.
"As long as you need me to be," Banner said firmly, unzipping his jacket. Coulson stood with Fury but then looked around for Christie. She was at a monitor with one of the S.H.I.E.L.D agents, as they scanned their targeted location. Coulson made his way over to her.
"You miss him don't you?" he asked Christie softly.
"More than anything," Christie said quietly, running her hand through her hair. "But what can I do about it? Nothing."
"Just don't give up-"
"SIR. WE HAVE A CROSS MATCH!" the agent suddenly yelped, clearly very proud of himself. Fury rushed over and peered at the screen as the image of Loki came clearer. Christie felt her heart shudder and she suddenly had the urge to throw up.
"Captain, you're up," Fury told Steve, who gulped and nodded. "Christie, get in the plane with Romanoff."
"NO," Coulson and Natasha said at the same time. Fury looked taken aback.
"Excuse me?"
"Sir, with all due respect, I don't think that's the best idea," Coulson explained. "I think it's best to wait until he's firmly locked down until he sees her."
"Exactly. He's already got Clint under his spell. We don't need another one gone," Natasha said seriously.
"Fine, if you two are so sure about this, then Romanoff you go with Captain," Fury said briskly, walking away and Natasha taking Steve away with her. It was just Coulson and Christie.
"Why did you do that?" Christie asked timidly, her hands beginning to shake.
"I could see you're not ready to face him again," Coulson said. "Are you alright?"
"Y-yeah," Christie nodded, shaking off the feeling of fear she had somehow just experienced.
