Drabble # 36 of 101
Refer to Drabble 1 for the Disclaimer, 'cause I'm not saying it again.
Tomorrow's theme is "Oliver! Part 3: It's a Fine Life", which will be one of six sneak peeks from "The Miraculous Adventure of Tessa and Lunala in Oliver!". I already have a solid plan for that one.
"Can you keep that expression for a long time, boy, with a crowd watching you?"
Michael shrugged his shoulders. "Yes, ma'am, I think so."
Seth and Yumi stepped up beside Michael as they started their song, Seth singing first.
Seth
"He's a born undertaker's mute."
When Seth sang the word 'mute', he covered Michael's mouth with his hand before taking it off.
"I can see him in a black silk suit.
Following behind the funeral procession
With his features fixed in a suitable expression.
There'll be horses with tall black plumes
To escort us to the family tombs,
With mourners
In all corners
Who've been taught to weep in tune.
And then the coffin lined with satin.
That's your funeral!"
Yumi
"That's your funeral!"
Seth
"Large enough to wear your hat in.
That's your funeral!"
Yumi elbowed Seth affectionately.
Yumi
"That's your funeral!"
Seth
"We're just here to glamorize you for that endless sleep."
Seth twirled Yumi as they sang together.
"You might just as well look fetching
When you're six feet deep!"
Yumi held up a glass of 'gin'.
Yumi
"At the wake we'll drink a toddy
To the body beautiful."
Seth and Yumi crossed over to Oliver before pointing at Michael again.
Seth
"That's your funeral!"
Yumi
"Not our funeral."
Seth and Yumi looked at each other again before looking at Oliver.
Seth and Yumi
"That's your funeral!"
Seth and Yumi proceeded to taunt Oliver.
Seth
"If you're fond of overeating
That's your funeral."
Yumi
"That's your funeral!"
Seth
"Starve yourself by undereating
That's your funeral."
Yumi
"That's your funeral.
Visualize the earth descending on you clod by clod.
You can't come back when you're buried
Underneath the sod!"
Seth and Yumi
"We will not reduce our prices.
Keep our vices usual."
Seth
"That's your funeral."
Yumi
"Not our funeral."
Seth
"That's your funeral."
Oliver stepped up to Seth and wagged his finger.
Oliver
"I don't think this song is funny."
Seth
"That's your funeral."
Yumi
"That's your funeral."
Oliver shoved Michael over to Seth and Yumi.
Oliver
"Here's the boy, now where's the money?"
Seth
"That's your funeral."
Oliver
"That's YOUR funeral!"
In a fit of rage, Oliver stormed offstage.
Yumi
"We don't harbor thoughts macabre,
There's no need to frown."
Seth and Yumi
"In the end we'll either burn you up or nail you down!
We love coughs and wheezes
And diseases called incurable."
Seth
"That's your funeral."
Yumi
"No one else's funeral."
Seth
"That's your…"
Yumi
"That's your…"
Seth and Yumi
"Funeral!"
The audience clapped, and so did everyone backstage.
Tears welled up in Annaleise's eyes.
"Well done, Yumi…" She spoke softly.
