Ziden115: Now how did Ares gain the power of a death god again, because that's new.
Game2002: From what I could gather, a shift in power in Olympus caused Hades to be overthrown by Ares, and so the latter became the ruler of the Underworld after that. It's probably better that you look things up yourself for details…
CybeastFalzar: When's Rumia making an appearance in the Extra Show?
Game2002: Eventually.
Sorry for the wait… I didn't realize that it's been a while since the last chapter when I looked at the last update date, and the chapter is still far from complete, so I tried to work as fast as I could after finding out about this… I really have to lay off procrastination…
You can say I was literally drunk when I typed certain parts of this chapter. It's been past an hour after I drank when I started typing, though, but I still feel sleepy, which is what sometimes happens after I drink alcohol. I can still think clearly, so rest assure that you won't read anything nonsensical in this chapter.
Chapter 37
War Out There
Wonder Woman knew she had no time to be dealing with Cheetah. Ares was the bigger problem, and she feared for Suwako and Minoriko's lives if they continued fighting him without her help, so she had to get rid of Cheetah in some way as fast as possible.
After blocking a claw strike from the humanoid cheetah using her wrist protectors, Wonder Woman quickly used her other hand to catch that arm before she could pull it back and then slammed her onto the part of the ground behind her before flinging her away.
Cheetah quickly got back up and glared at Wonder Woman as the latter headed over to where Ares was at a fast speed. "Come back here and fight me!" Cheetah angrily shouted at her while starting to give chase. She stopped and fell forward when she felt sharp things hitting the back of her legs. She turned to see that Shizuha had thrown leaves at her. "How dare you?!"
After quickly getting back up and taking out the leaves, Cheetah roared angrily as she pounced at Shizuha with her claws stretched towards her. The goddess of red leaves swiftly moved to the side and then kicked her in the abdomen from below as she was going past her. She kicked with such a force that the villainess shot straight up into the air.
Not stopping there, the goddess leaped up to the same level in a blink of an eye and struck her in the back with a powerful axe kick that, needless to say, sent her shooting back onto the ground face first.
CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASH!
Shizuha landed next to the shallow human-shaped hole created by Cheetah. Despite the painful blows, the latter was still able to get back up. "I'll kill you for this!" she angrily said to the goddess. The villainess quickly closed in on her and swung her claws at her at a really fast speed, so fast that Shizuha found herself quickly getting overwhelmed. Despite the goddess's best effort to defend herself, she still got slashed in various parts of her body, mainly her arms.
When she managed to back away from her a couple of feet, she caused a large amount of leaves to appear out of seemingly nowhere in front of her when Cheetah quickly closed in on her again. When the latter swung her claws at the airborne leaves, she did not hit anybody nor did she see anybody behind them.
She then sensed someone attempting to attack her from behind, so she turned around just in time to block a dive kick from Shizuha and then pushed her back onto the ground with her hands. Quickly after landing, Shizuha threw a large amount of leaves at Cheetah, but with swift movements from her claws, she managed to tear all of them into shreds.
Cheetah then rushed forward really fast and slammed her claws into Shizuha's abdomen, causing her to fly back a great distance. She eventually hit the ground and lied down on her back while grunting in pain. The villain pounced at her to give her a fatal blow, but she was stopped by a "smoke-powered" spinning kick from Hina.
However, Cheetah managed to see her attempting to attack her at the last second, and thanks to good reflex, she managed to block it in the nick of time. After getting kicked onto the ground, the villainess instantly dashed past the goddess of misfortune, slashing her in the waist in the process. Purplish-black smoke came out from her wound, and she attempted to cover it with her hands.
Cheetah was going to attack her again, but she got distracted by a slightly ticklish feeling of a Richardson's ground squirrel running over her feet and brushing its fur against her legs. This minor distraction caused her to not see a large amount of colored energy lines in the shape of dogs and birds rushing into her from the side, the former running over her.
Mamizou smirked when she saw that her Seventh Duel: Wild Deserted Island was a success in hitting the villainess. Cheetah got back up when the "stampede" receded and glared at Mamizou, only to receive a foot to the side of the face from Shizuha. The goddess of red leaves attacked relentlessly with a series of fast and powerful kicks, and Cheetah never got the opportunity to defend herself.
KICK SMASH KICK WHAM KICK SMASH WHAM SMASH KICK!
Cheetah was sent flying from the final kick, a roundhouse kick to the waist that sent her traveling across the place until she hit her back against a large rock.
CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASH!
With the villainess down for the count, Shizuha lowered her leg and took her time to catch her breath from performing the intense actions. The sound of an explosion suddenly caught her attention and the other girls, so they turned to see Steve with a rocket launcher in his hands and a smoking and burning spot not too far in front of him. "Just blasting some zombies," he told them. "Don't mind me!"
Every time Suwako swung her iron rings at Ares, the latter managed to block them with his hands with little effort. Even when the goddess threw several of them at him, he was still able to deflect all of them using a sword.
"I can see that you have skills, but it is not enough to compete against me!" Ares told her.
"You haven't seen what I'm truly capable of yet!" Suwako told him as she clapped her hands before slamming them onto the ground. In doing so, the ground shook for a few seconds before a towering wall of earth came out in between her and Ares, and then it fell in the latter's direction.
CRAAAAAAAAAASH!
The wall shattered into pieces when it hit the ground, and Suwako was not surprised to not see Ares standing where he was used to be. The god of war reappeared some feet away at her side with a spear in his hand and threw it at her. Acting quick, Suwako bent back her body to avoid the spear and then threw an iron ring at him that he easily caught.
"Normally, I would dismiss this as a real weapon," said Ares while observing the ring, "but watching medias produced by humans have taught me that it is not out of the realm of impossibility for something like this to be dangerous when used by an expert, even if what were seen are acting and are therefore fake."
After saying that, he threw the ring back to Suwako, who avoided it by bending back once again. The ring kept on flying until it hit a rock and actually went through it. Suwako looked at what happened with a surprised face and said, "Wow… Even I can't do that…"
Wonder Woman suddenly appeared next to Ares and swung her sword at him, but he produced his own out of nowhere in the blink of an eye to block it. As they pushed their weapons against each other, Ares said to her, "You cannot beat me! The fighting going on over there is providing me with power! Even when they all die, I will bring them back to life as undeads and continue fighting to keep on feeding me with power!"
"Your evil ways will not last! I will see to it that you fall here!" the Amazonian angrily said to him.
A large hand made of rock suddenly appeared out of the ground behind Ares and caught him, lifting him into the air. Knowing that this was the work of Suwako, Wonder Woman aimed to cut off the god of war's head. However, he was able to defend himself by making a pair of swords appear in front of himself and control them in a telekinetic manner. Using all his strength, he managed to free himself using only his arms.
"He's strong!" thought Suwako.
After landing, Ares made several spears appear over his head and had them fly at Suwako, but she jumped high into the air to avoid them and then released a large stream of water at him. The god of war simply warped out of the way.
He reappeared behind Suwako with a sword in his hand and impaled her through the body with it. Shocked by the sight of this, Wonder Woman flew towards Ares in anger. The god of war pulled out the sword and kicked Suwako away before clashing blades with the Amazonian.
While the three were fighting, Minoriko regained consciousness and rubbed her neck. "Ow… That hurts…" She got back up and watched the three fighting for a while before turning to the people fighting in front of the stadium. "I have to do something about those people there!" Even though she didn't enjoy doing things the hard way very much, she knew that it was impossible to get those people to stop if she didn't resort to doing that. As long as she didn't use anything fatal, it shouldn't be a problem.
"Please forgive me…" she said silently to those people as her feet began to glow with yellow light. Suddenly, a large amount of wheat stalks grew out from in front of her and in the direction of those people at a fast speed. They quickly surrounded the people and grew to sizes that towered an average human. Not only were those people's sights blotted out partially by the stalks, but the latter also bound themselves around various parts of their bodies to keep them from moving.
Taking out a pair of perfume sprays, the goddess of bountiful harvest flew around above the wheat field and sprayed the smell of sweet potato all over the place, hoping that its fragrance will calm down the people somehow.
After she was done spraying perfume, she raised her arms and caused vegetables of various kinds to materialize all around her. "Bountiful Harvest!" When she swung down her arms, they rained down and bonked the people hard.
BONK CONK SPLAT CLONK BONG CONK!
Though the vegetables hit them with a force strong enough to knock them out, they weren't strong enough to fatally wound them. It was mainly due to them being injured and feeling tired from the fighting that they got knocked out with relative ease, but their rage earlier made them continue fighting. The fragrance also helped soothe their minds a bit.
Ares was fighting Wonder Woman when he felt a bit of power leaving him. After quickly backing away from her, he turned to the stadium and saw the wheat field. "What happened there?!" he asked in surprise.
Wonder Woman managed to grab the opportunity to stab him through the chest. The god of war cried out in pain before pulling himself away from her sword and then attacked her with his own, but she knocked it out of his hand, slashing the latter in the process.
Ares quickly backed away from her after that, and she said, "It looks like the table has been turned! The fighting has somehow been stopped, so you are starting to lose your power!"
"If you think I am soon to be defeated because of this, you are very wrong!" Ares said to her. "I am the god of war! Fighting is what I excel at, so even when there is a lack of fighting, hatred, and anger, I can still hold my own!"
After saying that, a large snake made of stone came up from below and caught him in its wide open mouth. Surprised, Wonder Woman looked down and saw that it was Suwako who summoned the stone snake.
The stone snake, after trapping Ares inside its mouth, returned into the ground, and then Wonder Woman came down next to the mountain goddess and asked her, "Are you all right?"
"I'm fine," replied Suwako while placing her hand on the part of her body that was previously impaled by Ares. "I'm a goddess after all!"
Suddenly, the ground below them burst open, and Ares came out with red flames all over his body. "YOU WILL NOT BRING ME DOWN! I AM THE GOD OF WAR!" he shouted at the top of his voice.
"You bet I will!" Suwako said to him with confidence.
Ares summoned several sharp weapons and made them fly at them. They swiftly dodged them by jumping away, and when there were none around him, they flew at him. Wonder Woman swung her Lasso of Truth at him, but he caught it by his hand. Even so, it managed to wrap itself around it.
Suwako pointed her hands at the god of war and fired a pair of laser beams out of her oversized sleeves, blasting him continuously in the body. Wonder Woman then pulled Ares over to her and slashed him diagonally across the chest with her sword when he was in range before letting go of his hand.
The god of war moved back from her with his hand on his wound, and then he glared at her while growling angrily. Suddenly, a shadow appeared over him, and he looked up to see something big falling towards him.
"Stone Frog God!" shouted Suwako as she fell towards him on top of a large frog made of stone. The stone frog fell on top of Ares, pushing him onto the ground and flattening him against it.
SMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASH!
The stone frog stayed where it landed as Suwako got down from it and backed away to where Wonder Woman was. Steve and all the others girls also came up to where they were to see what was going on. The stone frog started to crack, and then it broke into pieces. Ares stood up from the rubbles that buried him afterwards, and he appeared to be in a very bad shape.
"You still haven't had enough?" asked Suwako.
"I will make a strategic retreat for now!" said Ares while breathing heavily. "This fight is not over yet! When I regain my power, I will come after you again! You better remember this!"
"No matter how many times you come back, you will never win!" Wonder Woman told him. "Justice always prevails!"
"As long as mankind continues to wage war, harm, and hate each other, I will always be here to make you suffer!" Ares angrily said to her. "Enjoy your victory while you can, for I will see to it that you never get to celebrate in the future!" After saying all that, the god of war warped away with the help of red fire that appeared around him.
"Sooooo clichéd…" commented Steve in response to Ares's last words.
After Ares's retreat, the law enforcement arrived at the scene, and the people engaged in the battle in front of the stadium finally had their rage subsided to a degree due to the absence of the god of war.
Even though the protestors had to face charges for starting an act of violence, their actions made the higher ups of the state reconsider their idea about building a racetrack to attract visitors, so the construction was put on hiatus.
For now, the incident was over, and after contacting the Hall of Justice, Miss Martian was sent over with her bioship in order to return them to the former location.
Also, Cheetah was arrested.
It was only about an hour after the girls found in North Dakota arrived at the Hall of Justice and Batman finished "interviewing" them when he and Superman were together, the latter chatting happily with the latter as they walked down the hallway. An alarm suddenly went off, and they were able to tell from the sound that this particular alarm meant something was up out there that required their help.
They quickly rushed over to the teleportation room, and the Dark Knight pressed a button on the computer that showed them what was happening. The screen turned on and showed a picture of a large building built on an island out at sea, and there was a message in red saying Prison Breakout at Stryker's Island glowing in front of the building.
"Prison breakout?!" Superman said in surprise.
Batman pressed some buttons that brought up footages of the prison's security cameras, and they saw inmates running wild and guards trying to stop them, but the latter didn't seem to be faring very well.
"If the likes of Metallo and Parasite break out from that place, it's going to be a problem," said Superman. "I better get there fast."
"I'll go too," said Batman. "Even you can't contain a prison break if many prisoners broke out at once. Plus, I don't have anything to do at the moment."
"Having some help would be nice!" commented the Man of Steel.
"Also, we should let the girls know about this too," suggested Batman.
"Because of Seija, right?" asked Superman. "I was thinking the same thing too. Since we imprisoned her there, they should know about this as well. Assuming she escaped, they should know better about dealing with her than us."
TO BE CONTINUED
Note: Please note that this chapter IS IN NO WAY encouraging people to use violence to resolve things. Even if you managed to get what you want through violence, your actions are still inexcusable.
