Hey guys! So, I made a fluffy chapter for you, but I couldnt help the ending. Trust me though, it's not a bad thing, you'll understand next chapter!
Alex nervously coughed to signal to his parents that he needed to talk to them. When they looked up they smiled at their son. "What is it hun?" his mother asked. He looked back at Emmett who gave his hand a gentle squeeze for assurance. He nodded at the blond haired musician who took a deep breath before walking out into the living room, keeping their hands firmly locked. "Mom, dad, I have something... Something that I want- that I need to tell you... I'm... I'm gay," he finally managed to choke out. His gaze fell and he refused to raise it, that is until Emmett's hand reached under his chin and lifted his head slightly.
When his eyes flicked up he saw his parents smiling at him. "Alex, we've known since you were six when you wanted a poster of Leonardo DiCaprio over your bed instead of an anime warrior princess," his dad laughed a little. Emmett was as astonished as his boyfriend. "So... It's OK that we're... Together?" he asked, looking at the brown haired boy next to him. "Of course, just... You know this means that the 'open door policy' is now going to be enforced, right?" his mother chuckled a bit. Alex laughed and wiped a few tears away before pulling his parents into a hug, then taking his boyfriend's hand and running upstairs to his room, of course without closing the door though.
When Seth heard the sound he wasn't even sure that it was real. The crying was so quiet that it seemed like it was just in his head. But regardless he poked his head into the abandoned building and saw a girl with red hair crying, her head in her knees. "Are you OK?" he asked, taking a small step closer to her. She looked up and wiped her face a little. "Uh... Yeah, yeah I'm alright," she gave a weak smile. "You don't look alright," he continued, taking a few more steps forwards. "Really I'm fine, just a little upset is all," she promised. "Then why are you crying?" he asked, sitting down beside her. "I just don't have a lot anymore. I don't have a place to stay or anyone to ask for help," she explained.
"Why? Don't you have your parents?" Seth's voice was quiet. "No... Not anymore... They don't really talk to me much anymore," Paige answered sadly. "Well... My moms would let you stay with us!" he suggested happily. "Oh god no I couldn't ask that, I don't even know your name," she laughed a little. "Seth Dillon Fields St. Germain," he smiled. Although she tried to hide her shock, it was a little surprising to the older woman and it was obvious. Luckily for her though, the younger boy was oblivious. "My name is Paige," she smiled at him. "That's a pretty name. So why don't you have anyone to talk to?" he asked.
"Well... My girlfriend just broke up with me and she was really the only person I had, so I'm kind of alone now," she explained. "Well... I don't think my moms would mind if you stayed with us for a few days," he suggested. "Really, it's fine, I'll be alright," she smiled at him. "So, why did you and your girlfriend break up?" he asked. "You ask a lot of questions," Paige observed, giggling a bit in amusement. He shrugged. "Well we just got into a lot of fights and finally we agreed that it wasn't working," she explained. "Well I gotta go, my moms are expecting me, are you sure you don't wanna come?" he asked as he stood up. She nodded. "But, could you tell your moms something?" she asked. "You know them?" Seth was surprised. Paige nodded. "Well, sure, what should I tell them?" he asked. The red headed woman smiled, then answered, "Can you tell them that I wish them good luck?"
Later on that evening, Emily was sitting on the couch staring at the TV in shock. "Local police have identified the body as 34 year old Paige McCullers. Paramedics have announced her dead on the scene and it was confirmed that the death indeed was a suicide, and the note that was left was found to be legit," the words shocked the athlete. "Maya honey, can come out here a moment?" she called, her eyes not leaving the screen. The musician walked out and kissed her wife on the cheek. "What's up?" she asked, following the swimmer's gaze to the screen. After hearing the situation, her mouth fell. "Hey, it's Paige!" the voice came from their eight year old son, and the words shocked the women more than they thought they could've been at the time.
"Seth, honey, you know who that is?" Maya asked quietly. "Yeah, I met her today on the way home, she was crying and saying she didn't have anywhere to go," he explained. The two women exchanged worried glances. "Seth, love, did she do anything to you? Hurt you or touch you in any way?" Emily asked. He shook his head. "She was just upset and I talked to her for a few minutes, that's all, is she OK?" he asked. Neither one of his moms wanted to be the one to break the news, but finally Maya kneeled down in front of him. "Sweetie, Paige died today," her voice was slow and quiet.
"Oh... She said that she wished you guys good luck... But I didn't think... Is it my fault?" he asked sadly, his voice barely audible. "No no sweetie, of course not, not at all," Emily promised, leaning down and kissing his head. He nodded, but he didn't look very convinced. "Hey, how about you go finish up your homework and we can all watch. Movie, K bud?" Maya suggested. He gave a small smile and nodded, making his way upstairs and leaving his moms to sit alone together in their shock.
It was about two in the morning when Holly woke up to the sound of gentle taps on her window. Blinking her eyes open and yawning a little she slowly made her way over to the glass. She looked down and had to rub her eyes a bit to make sure she wasn't seeing things. Standing at the base of the house stood her girlfriend, roses in one hand and a small colorfully wrapped box the other. "What are you doing here?" the still only partially awake girl hissed as she threw open her window. "Well I have to be the first one to tell my baby girl happy birthday, don't I?" Erica giggled.
Rolling her eyes Holly stood back to allow the auburn haired girl climb up the tree beside her window and jump inside. She wrapped her arms around the taller girl's waist and pulled her into a kiss. "Happy birthday love," she whispered, placing another kiss on the pink lips. "Don't keep reminding me," Holly grumbled, falling back on her bed. "Hey now, my baby girl is finally turning as old as me, I'll remind you all I damn want," Erica giggled, kissing her girlfriend's cheek softly. "Speaking of, here," she handed the musician the roses and the box. When the taller girl opened it her eyes sparkled with tears and she smiled. Inside was a small necklace with an "E + H" engraved into the middle. The outside of the heart was lined with a sea ocean blue, and the letters were carved in a mixture of forest green and pure silver.
"Erica... It's beautiful... I... Thank you, she whispered, pulling the writer into a hug. "However I kind of expected a poem," she giggled. "What am I not good enough anymore Hols?" Erica teased. "Of course you are, you'll always be enough," Holly grinned and kissed her again before lying down in her bed and snuggling closer to the girl that held her in a secure embrace. She yawned a little, secured the necklace around her, and let herself drift off into a peaceful sleep.
At the same time that Erica was visiting Holly, just around the side of the house Alex had a very similar plan to surprise his boyfriend. He smiled at the thought. He just couldn't get used to the excitement from calling Emmett that. He skillfully climbed the side railing of the house, his guitar strapped to his back as he sat on the window sill. He strummed a few chords gentle, causing the brown haired boy to jump. "What are you doing here?" he whispered, not angry with the musician but a little startled.
"I can't just let my boyfriend lay here alone today! It's your birthday!" Alex talked like it was obvious. "It's been my birthday for all of what, two hours?" the swimmer asked, looking at his clock. "Regardless, are you going to just kick me out?" the blonde haired boy teased. "Of course not," with that Emmett pulled him into a kiss and wrapped his arms around the taller boy's neck. "So, are you here to serenade me?" he giggled, lying on his bed and lacing his hand with the artist's. "Of course I am, but not now, later today. For now just get some rest," Alex kissed the athlete on the forehead and wrapped his arms around him before they both closed their eyes and let themselves fall into a gentle sleep.
Maya woke up around 4:00 that morning on account of she felt a weight on her chest. Blinking her eyes open she saw the dark shape on her chest that she knew was Pickles. "Alright old guy, time to get off," she yawned, gently setting the cat on the ground. He mewed slightly, and it must have been a call for help, because three tiny balls of fur squeaked and jumped up on the musician as well. Maya groaned. These cats were going to be the death of her, but she couldn't resist. All three kids had wanted a kitten, and after the pleading looks in their eyes (and a little bit of "convincing" from Emily) she had reluctantly agreed.
She turned on the small table lamp beside her bed and looked down into the innocent faces of Holly's kitten Coconut, a small white kitten with a brown tipped tail, Seth's kitten Kibbles, an orange and white tabby, and Emmett's kitten Simba, an accurately named kitten on account of his unusual golden pelt with a slightly darker brown color around his face. "Alright guys, get off," the artist chuckled slightly, pushing the animals down onto the floor. She yawned and smiled over at her still sleeping wife, kissing her cheek gently before standing up. She stretched her arms over her head and walked out of the room, stopping at her daughter's bedroom when she saw that the now seventeen year old wasn't alone.
Instead she saw Erica with her arms wrapped around her, both of them fast asleep. Chuckling, the older woman made her way down the hallway where she found Emmett also in the arms of his significant other. She checked on Seth to make sure he was alright then walked back into her own bedroom, shaking her wife gently. "Em, love, wake up," she spoke gently in the athlete's ear. "Wha... Oh, hey," the swimmer rolled over and leaned up, pecking the musician's lips quickly. "What time is it?" she asked, looking over at the clock that read 4:07 A.M. "Why are you waking me up?" she yawned, rubbing her eyes. Maya laughed a bit, then answered, "We may have to start breakfast a little early- we're cooking for two extra."
"Holly! Emmett!" Seth's voice caused not only the twins but their companions in the bed beside them to jump awake. Both Alex and Erica dove under the covers as the eight year old opened the door. "Breakfast is ready," he announced. "Seth, jeez are you trying to give us a heart attack?" Emmett asked, out of breath. "No, just trying to get you guys up," he shrugged and walked back downstairs. "Morning guys, happy birthday," Maya smiled as she walked into both their rooms, kissing their heads. Alex and Erica apparently had the same mind set, because both twins suddenly felt two pairs of hands that weren't their own wandering. They silently pushed them away and pleaded with their eyes that they would stop.
"You guys sleep well?" Maya continued, taking her time in Holly's room. "Uh, yeah I... I slept fine," she had to force herself to keep her voice from squeaking. "Alright guys, breakfast is in ten minutes. Oh, and how do Erica and Alex like their eggs?" with that the musician walked out of the room and both emerged from the covers. "How did they find out?" Emmett called to his sister from across the hall. "Beats me, they are virtually ninjas," Holly sighed. "Well I guess we better go down," the taller boy sighed, standing up. The four teenagers made their way cautiously down the stairs, the twins in front while Alex and Erica walked behind them. The twins saw their parents and Seth sitting at the table- Maya was writing a paper for work, Emily was scrolling through her phone, and Seth was eating. He waved at them and the two women flicked their eyes upwards.
"Ah, you four finally decided to join us," Maya smiled knowingly at the group. "Mama, I promise... Nothing happened... We just... I..." Holly stumbled over her words and Emily laughed. "It's alright guys, but if it wasn't your birthday we wouldn't be so lenient. Believe it or not Mama used to sneak into my room all the time at night," the swimmer giggled at the memory. "And we definitely didn't just sleep," the musician laughed, causing different reactions with all the people in the room. Emily was shocked yet amused, Seth was confused, and the teenagers were beyond surprised. "Did we just hear our moms talk about their sex life?" Holly asked, looking back at her brother. He nodded and slowly the four adolescents sat down as the two older women laughed.
The kids were still at school and Emily was on her way from work when Maya got home. She opened the mailbox and carried the letters inside, looking through them to see if anything important was included. When she came to a certain letter she stopped, then slowly read over the back of the envelope. Tears welled up in her eyes and she sat down at the table, staring at the paper in her hands. "Babe what's wrong?" the voice of her wife startled her a bit. She jumped a little, then relaxed when she recognized the voice. She turned around and saw the athlete waking over to her, sitting down beside her.
Instead of answering the question that hung in the air with words Maya handed the swimmer the letter. When she read it her heart sunk and her worry turned to understanding and hurt. "Should we open it?" she asked. The musician shook her head. "She has to open it herself," Maya wiped a tear away from her eyes and took her wife's hand. The swimmer walked around the table and wrapped her arms around the artist's waist, pulling her into a gentle kiss, hoping that somehow it would be enough to keep their minds off of the letter. At least for now.
When Holly got to her house that afternoon, she walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water. It was when she turned around that she saw the letter on the table. Butterflies started swarming in her stomach and she walked over to the letter, picking it up and carefully pulling the top part open. She scanned down through the words and the smile on her face grew. The last sentence made her nearly squeal. "Congratulations Miss Holly Fields St. Germain, John Hopkins welcomes you and we hope to see you on campus soon!"
"Holly, can you come here a moment?" Emily called. Maya gripped her hand a little tighter as she watched her daughter emerge from the top of the steps. "What's up moms?" she asked, sitting down on the couch when she saw that she couldn't read any emotion from either of her parent's faces. "Honey... Why didn't you tell us you applied to John Hopkins?" Maya finally asked. The teenagers heart sunk. "I... I was going to tell you, honestly I was, but I didn't want it to be a big deal and I... I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up and let them down," she admitted a bit nervously.
"Honey, you don't have to hide things like that from us, we are your parents, and we are so proud of you! You got accepted to one of the most well known and well educated schools in the country, and I think that deserves a celebration," Emily smiled, pulling her daughter into a hug that was followed by another one from Maya. "What do you mean celebration?" the teenager giggled a little.
"I mean let's all go out to dinner, anywhere you want," the swimmer answered. "Even the diner?" the young musician asked hopefully. "Really?" the athlete groaned. "Come on Mom, please?" she begged. "Yeah come on mom, please?" Maya joined in and Emily rolled her eyes. "Fine," she reluctantly agreed. "Thanks mom, you're the best," Holly smiled, hugged both her parents, and ran up the stairs.
Later that night, after they had gone out to eat, the family sat around a campfire in the back yard, surrounded by the rest of the group- Hanna, Caleb, Nori, Luke, Ezra, Aria, Lindsey, Spencer, Toby, Silvia, and Dean. Alex and Erica even joined them. Alex sat playing his guitar and most people joined in singing the familiar children's songs. Only when she was sure no one was paying attention did Maya pull her wife by the arms back into the woods. "What are you doing you big goofball?" Emily giggled.
The musician didn't answer, just continued pulling her through the trees. When they came to a specific spot she stopped and pulled the swimmer into a passionate kiss. "Do you recognize this place?" the artist questioned. After a few glances around Emily still was pretty clueless, until she saw what was right behind them. A familiar tree stood, with familiar engravings carved into the wood. A small heart enclosed the letters "E" and "M" and the tears that sprung to the swimmer's eyes were nearly instant.
"How did you... You remembered," she whispered. "Of course I did. Today is the day we remembered who each other was," Maya admitted a bit shyly. Emily's smile grew and she pulled the musician into another kiss. At that moment, they were completely alone in the athlete's world. But in reality, well, they were almost alone. Almost.
So, this chapter is dedicated to He0524. Listen babe, I better get a happy chapter. I have you fluff not only with Emaya but with Holly/Erica and Emmett/Alex.
