accidents happen: chapter 37
Sonic's POV
Yesterday night was amazing. I had done it twice before, but it had never felt so good as with Shadow. I'm glad this was different than last time. Because this time I wasn't drunk and so I would remember it, unlike our first time, which, no matter how hard I tried, I would never remember.
I looked at my left and saw Shadow still asleep next to me. He was lying on his side with his back facing me. He was curled up as good as he could with one arm wrapped around his abdomen. I smiled at the sight.
I leant over and placed a hand on his belly, receiving a kick as greeting.
"Heh, you're already awake in there." I muttered before sitting up, stretching my upper body and getting out of bed.
"Hmm? Sonic?" I heard Shadow mutter as he looked at me from over his shoulder with tired eyes.
"Did I wake you up?" I asked as I walked to his side of the bed to get a better look at him when I spoke. Shadow shook his head and let it rest on the pillow again, quickly falling asleep again. I smiled at him briefly before dressing up, so I could leave the bedroom and make my way down the stairs.
"Sonic! You're awake!" Tails called for me as soon as he watched me walk into the kitchen.
"Yeah, I am. Something wrong?" I asked as I easily noticed the slightly panicked look in his eyes.
"Eggman is wrecking the city again! He says it's revenge for stopping him last time!" He said. Eggman must really be doing a number on the city if it made Tails so worried.
I sighed. Going out to fight off Eggman meant leaving Shadow all on his own again. It didn't matter how well he can take care of himself, his condition still made him vulnerable. I didn't like leaving him alone now, but I had no other choice if Egghead decided that he was bored and tried wrecking the city.
"You can go ahead and start the Tornado. I'm going upstairs for a moment." I said and watched Tails run off to his workshop before I turned around and made my way up the stairs again.
When I walked into the bedroom again, Shadow was still in a deep sleep. If he wasn't pregnant I would've been concerned. Shadow had always been the one to wake up early in the morning. The fact that he slept so long could only be blamed on the exhaustion he often felt as he got further into his pregnancy.
It wouldn't be much longer, though. Just another two months and the baby will be here. Well, babies since I suspect we might be having more than one.
I once told Shadow about my suspicions, but he just shrugged it off, saying that that would be impossible. I don't think he actually believed that himself, though. And judging by the way he acted in the beginning of his pregnancy, I think it might be fear that made him deny the possibility. After all, as much as he was excited for his due date to come, let's not forget how reluctant he was to keep the kid to begin with.
The bed dipped underneath my weight as I took a seat on the side of the bed, my hand resting behind him as I looked down on him.
"Shadow?" I called his name, although, I don't think he will be able to hear me.
"Hmm?" Guess he wasn't so deep in his sleep after all.
"Eggman is wrecking the city again. Will you be okay by yourself?" I asked.
Shadow nodded before snuggling his muzzle against his pillow, as if trying to bury himself deeper in it for more comfort.
I shot him a smile before leaning down and kissing him lightly. I'm not sure if he heard anything what I had been trying to tell him, guess I'll leave a note before leaving to kick Egghead's butt again.
Once I had left a short note in the kitchen, I got to Tails waiting in the Tornado outside and we quickly took off, planning on taking care of our little problem with a certain mad scientist.
I just hope it wouldn't take too long. I have the nagging feeling something is going to happen while I'm away.
Shadow's POV
"Hmmm? Sonic?" I muttered once I was fully awake. I lifted my head up from the pillow to look around in the room to find my lover, only to discover that I was alone.
'That's odd. I could've sworn that Sonic was standing here just a second ago.' I thought as I pushed myself upright, the covers falling down on my lap. I had to lean on my hands in order to sit up like this, because, with the belly I had now, it was hard sitting up right without something to lean upon.
'Speaking off my belly... I wonder if i'll get any bigger than this.' I wondered silently as I rubbed it with my left hand. I hoped it would stay this way. It already looked like I had eaten a whole beachball in one bite. It didn't weigh as much, though. No, it was much heavier.
I threw the blanket off of me and swung my legs over the edge before pushing myself up from my bed, a wince leaving me as I felt a sting shoot through my body. I had been feeling those stings all morning, but they were annoying than actually painful. I wondered if I had been sleeping in the wrong position.
I walked over to the closet and choose some clean clothes I could wear for today. It took a little bit of bending and turning my body in positions that was quite hard to achieve in my current condition, but I finally managed to dress myself up.
"Sonic? Tails? Are you in here?" I asked when I came walking into the livingroom, but I received no answer. Are they gone? I walked into kitchen and noticed a note hanging on the fridge. I pulled it off and read it.
'Eggman again? Pff, why can't that guy take a break for once?' I thought with a pout as I crumbled the piece of paper in my hand before throwing it away.
My stomach began to growl from hunger. I needed to eat breakfast first before worrying over anything else. I searched through the cabinets and through the fridge and easily found something to eat.
Once my stomach was full, I quickly washed the dishes and put them away before dropping down on the couch with a sigh. With all that weight on my lower body, I was glad I could take a seat.
It wasn't just the weight that bothered me, though. The occasional annoying sting that ran through my body was slowly starting to make things difficult for me aswell. Not to mention that it woke me up several times during the night. It had been exhausting. Even now I was still tired.
"I hope your dad and brother will be home soon. It's a bit lonely without them, isn't it?" I asked as I rubbed over my swollen belly. I smiled as I felt it move inside against my hands. It was almost as if it was agreeing with me.
I laughed briefly at the thought. There was no way he, or she, could understand me. Well, not yet atleast. It still had much to learn. I was sure that wouldn't be a problem. Sonic and I were going to teach him/her everything we knew.
A wince left me when that sting hit me again. This time it wasn't just annoying, but came close to hurting aswell. I was starting to get a bit worried. This had been going on for hours now. It felt like a persistent stomach ache now.
Was I getting sick? I barely got sick. Did I eat something bad last night? If that was the case, than Sonic and Tails might be feeling a bit ill aswell. That couldn't be good. It would prove to be a huge disadvantage in battle.
I quickly searched for the remote and turned the tv on. The news always recorded whenever Sonic fought with Eggman. That way I could still know what's going on, despites not being able to go there myself.
My eyes were glued to the screen as I watched. A sense of relief slowly began to fill me when I noticed that nothing was wrong with them. They were just fine.
"Pff, I was getting all worked up for nothing." I muttered, speaking to the baby once more, even though there was no way that it could answer. Who else could I talk to? I was alone for now. A fight with Eggman was never solved in just a couple of minutes. Sometimes it even took hours before they got him down again. Either way, it was going to take a while.
And boy, it did.
By the time the news cast announced that Eggman had finally been defeated, it was already late in the afternoon.
Instead of trying to follow the battle, which I knew Sonic and Tails would win, I had decided to prepare dinner for the two heroes before they returned home. That is, I attempted to make dinner.
As the hours passed, the stinging aches, which had started out as shoulder-shruggingly annoying, had quickly grown to be painful jabs everywhere in my stomach and lower back. I panted and moaned in pain as I leant against the kitchen counter while trying to deal with the pain. The ingredients for our dinner were lying in front of me, but I found myself unable to even start anything.
"Oh Chaos... What's happening." I groaned, my body tensing up when another painful jab shot through me.
At first, I didn't understand what could possibly be happening. But as time passed by, I knew there was only one possible explanation.
I was in labour.
