Chapter 37: Operation Harvest
Everyone backed up as Bardock glared at Cell, no one wanted to get caught between the battle of these two. Cell smiled evilly some of saiyan cells were activating at the thought of a fight with a powerful opponent.
"So you are Bardock, the father Kakarot and Raditz along with grandfather of Gohan and Chidori."
Bardock was not in the least intimated by the bio creature. "Yeah what of it I'm surprised you even known because I don't think your doctor would have put that in your data banks or that brain of your's."
At this Cell smiled "You see Bardock with in the cells of my body is the genetic memory of each being It makes up for the gaps that my creator failed to gather on you all so there is nothing you can do that will surprise me." he said full of confidence.
At this Bardock smiled, it made Turlus nervous he had seen that look when he was going to beat the snot out of his opponent or going in for the kill, It was going to be bloody. He almost felt sorry for Cell.
Both fighters took a fighting stance and waited. Then Cell struck first zooming forward he aimed to take off Bardock's head however the punch missed.
"TO SLOW FREAK!" Bardock yelled then retaliated with an attack of his own sending him flying out of the park before Cell could regain his baring Bardock delivered a kick to the stomach sending him crashing into the ground. Cell coughed up blood as he tried to get up Bardock appeared right in front of him. In his right hand was an energy blast. "Take this bio scum!" Bardock fired point blank range. The blast detonated with the force a bomb. Everyone watching the fight gasped as they saw or sensed the fight.
Bardock's power was incredible. Bardock's attack had created a humongous crater and at the center Cell sat bleeding from the attack while Bardock hovered over edge glaring down at him.
"Get up slime! I your done done till I send you to hell for all of the lives you and your creator have taken, saiyan and human." Cell got up and glared at him.
"Don't get cocky you old monkey. You might be a powerful but you are just an insignificant bug compared to me. I have the powers of all of the greatest fighters in the galaxy. You were just a low level soldier who failed to protect his world. You were condemned to hell along with the rest of your retched race for hell for all of the trillions of beings you murdered for real-estate. You think I'm a monster, but your just as bad in fact your kind was considered the scum of the universe." he taunted him.
Bardock glared at Cell. Not the least impressed by what he said. "You don't think I know the sins of my kind and I. I know the blood on my hands of the millions of beings we saiyans have slaughtered! In hell I had to face the judgment of all of the people killed even after we were resurrected there were still nightmare of the ghosts we faced now we fight to protect people from suffering the fate of oppression and death!"
Cell smirked back at Bardock mocking him. "So you think you can redeem yourself? Well why don't you ask King Yemma, when I send you there!" he yelled before charging at him again. Bardock like wise charged at him as well. Both met and in a furry of blows began to exchange punches
Is that all you got Bardock? I'm barley braking a sweat!" taunted Cell, He pulled back his right fist and punched at Bardock who dodged and then retaliated with an elbow strike nearly braking the arm.
"Is that all you got?" he said mimicking Cell. "I'll show you what I got!" He yelled as he sent Cell flying up into the air "HYPER BEAM!" he yelled as he fired the blast launched and hit his target
The Blast struck on target! Cell went spinning to the ground with a thud as the dust cleared from the crash Cell hauled himself out of the ground breathing hard as he wiped his mouth of blood. "This old monkey is wiping the floor with me!" I should be able to handle him yet he is wiping the floor with me. I should be stronger then him!" He though with worry.
Bardock landed in front of him. "What is the matter Cell? Feeling weak from the beating I gave you? Not so fun is it being on the other end of a pounding is it? Why don't you try again or is that all you got?" he said mockingly.
At this Cell got madder. "HOW DARE YOU MOCK ME! I AM DESTINED TO BE THE GREATEST BEING THE UNIVERSE HAS EVER SEEN. YET YOU MOCK ME!? I WILL SHOW YOU MY POWER!" Yelled the Bio android as a aura of golden energy began to envelope him the ground began to shake
"Unreal!" yelled Tien as he saw the power grow.
"It is because of all of the saiyans he has absorbed!" said Piccolo
"He is going to need help!" said Krillin.
At this Turles stopped him "Don't get in way! You will only get yourself killed!" he warned
"But we got to do something?" said bold martial artist
At this the cousin of the legendary super saiyan smiled. "Watch closely, You will see why my uncle was one of the strongest saiyans back in the days of the PTO and now the commander of the entire saiyan army."
Once Cell reached his maximum level he smiled now the arrogant monkey was doomed. "So tell me Bardock what are you going to do now?"
At this Bardock smiled. "While I am not a super saiyan like my son's I have been learning some of the moves my youngest son has. Allow me to demonstrate. KAIO-KEN!" At this a red energy surrounded him.
At this Cell felt his power draft yet again. Bardock just stood there smugly and make a come on gesture further making him madder. With that Cell charged again at him only for Bardock to block and counter his attacks.
"Wow when did Bardock learn that move?" asked Krillin.
Turles turned to answer the question," During the past few years since we came back, our warriors have trained to unlock stronger levels of power while many of us are just starting to reach the level of super saiyan like myself, Kakarot thought it would be good if we learned some new skills to give us a power boast. As such only the strongest warriors can use Kaio-Ken But my uncle can do it up to 20. Right now he's only using the first level to just test out Cell's skills. Trust me Cell might soon end up in grave."
"AAAH!" Yelled Bardock as he stuck Cell in the head sending him flying.
The fight had gone on for about 2 hours and Cell was bruised and bleeding. While Bardock had only a few injuries on him.
"NO! I WON'T BE BEATEN BY YOU!" Cell took a pose and began to chant. "KA, ME, HA, ME," He chanted.
Bardock responded with a move of his own with the red aura surrounding him "BUSTER!" he began to yell.
"HA/CANON!" They finished at the same time, Both blasts connected at the same time. Bardock's white energy blast with a red outline thanks to the kaio-ken while Cell's kamehameha wave met. At first they were evenly matched.
"NO I WON"T LOSE!" yelled Cell, he poured all of his energy into the blast. It grew bigger and then began to push Bardock's blast back.
Realizing that he could not afford to play with Cell anymore he decided to put most of his power into the next move. "KAIO-KEN X 19!" The blast increased in size and power and began to push back
There was an almighty explosion as Cell was consumed by light, When the light began fading everyone began to sense and look for the murderous android. "THERE HE IS!" yelled Krillin.
Cell was in pretty bad, half of his head crown was gone along with one of his arms and he was bleeding all over
"Look who is mister high and mighty now?" said Turles as he gazed at the barely alive Cell.
Bardock hovered over him. "Before I send you to after life Cell, do you have any last requests?"
"YEAH THIS! SOLOR FLARE!"
"YAAHA!" Yelled everyone caught in the rays of the attack.
When everyone got their eye sister back, Cell was GONE!
"GREAT WHERE DID THAT SLIME BALL GO!" Yelled Bardock.
"Spread out he couldn't have gotten far?" Said Piccolo
With that, they took off to find him.
As they tried to find Cell, the Monster was hiding within a system of caves, he was feeling dizzy, He knew he could regenerate but he had to put himself into a form of hibernation to heal and would have to be careful if he was caught he be finished. "Just wait until I am complete then the galaxy will be mind." he said as he began to close his eyes.
While this battle between Bardock and Cell took place and the runway androids raided the Ox kingdom, another creation of Dr. Gero was underway.
Location: The North Mountains, Dr Gero secret robotic bunker.
The computer was furious while it was an artificial intelligence it had taken on the late Dr. Gero's hate and rage for Kakarot and his friends. Now that Creator Dr. Gero was dead killed by androids 17 and 18, and taken 16 with them, the project Cell had been rendered null and void. Thanks to the unknown saiyan hybrids. It knew while it's mechanical forces could match the force of Earth, the Z fighters and saiyans would annihilate its forces.
"Hostiles have Destroyed Cell! Project Cell has Failed focus all resources on destroying the Earth."
It would have continued to rant when one of its spy drones appeared. It then deposited it's find into the computer's bio scanner. After scanning the sample, the computer began to spark and malfunction.
"CELL HAS REACHED MATURITY! CELL HAS REACHED MATURITY! CELL HAS REACHED MATURITY!"
After the computer calmed down. "Gather biological being with maths what stage one cell would look like." It ordered , With that 5 drones flew off to cave systems.
Elsewhere the Z fighters and their saiyan allies tried help people still scared because of the drones attack. Right now martial law had been declared yet some people had started taking to rioting and looting.
In West city a grocery store had just been robbed, A group of gangsters were loading food and water while the rest held the workers and civilians at gun point. The police could not move or the hostages would be killed. The people yelled and shouted at them for stealing the food. At this the lead gangster fired off is automatic rifle silencing the crowed.
"SHUT UP! YOU WORMS! THE WORLD IS ENDING! IT'S SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST! GET IN MY WAY AND YOU DIE!" As more of the food was loaded into the cares and trucks. They were about to leave when some of people got in front of the convey. The cars stopped for a moment before the leader yelled at his men. "RUN THEM DOWN!"
Just before he could do that a kid with blue hair got in the way and stopped the truck with his bare hands looking at them with a disapproving look "You known it not right to steal?" the kid who had blue hair and a strange armor that the world former world champion Kakarrot wore
"YEAH WELL, I SAY NO ONE CARES!" he yelled and opened fire with his pistol. At that there was a blur of yellow. A girl with blonde hair violet eyes. "Now that wasn't very polite," said Matrona. In her hand was a handful of crushed bullets. She let them fall to the floor with a ping noise.
This caused the gangster to lose all of his nerve. "ALRIGHT I GIVE UP!"
As he and his goons were rounded up, and the food given back to the people. Cardin and Matrona waited in line to revive the food they would be taking back to the shelter.
"That's 3 robberies we have stopped the past week." Said Matrona.
"I known things are getting worse with that creature Cell, on the lose. Not to mention the drones are still on the lose and the command center has not found their base yet." said Cardin.
It was true while the drones had temporally stopped their mass attacks, they now did small raids on military bases and stole supplies. However the main bases that were producing them and harvesting resources.
Deciding to stop with the depressing Cardin and Metrona waited until they received their supplies and took off to the shelters.
The shelters where buried deep underground. While they could not survive full blown energy attacks that would reduce the planet to dust it could still hide deep enough within the Earth that it could survive most attacks that could level cities.
They arrived at the shelter within a few minutes taking the elevator down, The shelters were large enough to house between 1,000 to 3,000 people. It was equipped with a medical center, green house, and a power planet that could last for 5,000 years, all of which was provided with technology from Capsule Corp and Saiyan Tech. Areas, for sleeping, recreational and eating were also provided as well. When they entered into the main room of the shelter they were greeted by the refuges. As Cardin handed to the supplies to one of them, he found himself wrapped in a hug by Erasa. Ever since he had saved her and her family from the drones Erasa as seemed quite smitten with him. While her mother thought it was cute her father didn't trust him yet and was a bit over protective. As for Cardin he wasn't ready for a girlfriend yet, but enjoyed having a friend from Earth.
"Hi Cardin how are you doing?" she asked.
Cardin smiled "I'm doing fine Erasa"
Over the next 30 minutes he and Erasa talked, about was going on in the world. Along with current events, Erasa was impressed that he was able to stop a truck with his bare hands and when he was finishing his story he was told he had to go back and help the refugees. Erasa told him to be carful before giving him a kiss on a check. Cardin lost his cool and turned bright red. Erasa was also blushing as well.
Cardin put his hand on his check. Stunned, held his hand to his check. Matrona giggled at the scene. She found it cute that the normal stoic Cardin interacting with a girl his own age who was obviously developing puppy love for him.
As the two of them left, to join up with the rest of their team, Matrona decide to have some fun at the expense of her friend "You know Cardin it's a good thing your sister is not here to see you getting flirty with your girlfriend."
Cardin turned beat red again before shooting a dirty look at Matrona "First off, Erasa is not my girlfriend and I barely know her and Second if you tell Myron anything, I'm going to!" He began but before he could finish anything, Matrona held up her hands.
"Relax, relax Cardin I'm not going to say a thing it's just funny to see mister I could almost pass for a robot show emotions."
Cardin groaned. He had known Matrona back when they were trying to survive on Tarbolia, she had been outgoing, fun loving and a pain in the tail for teasing her teammates like a big sister that no one wanted.
While the young saiyans had been helping the refugees in the world the battle android of the Red Ribbon army walked into the cave system housing Cell. As the walked into the network of mountain tunnels, feeling no fear they walked down deeper into the caverns. Soon they found Cell who was in deep hibernation trying to heal his wounds, because of his self induced coma, he didn't hear or see the androids presence. The five of them did a quick scan and confirmed it was their target. They picked up Cell still not aware of being moved and took him to the bunker.
Upon arrival in the bunker, they deposited Cell into a chamber filled with liquid. As Cell was immersed in it, he began to heal faster. Several hours after all of the injuries inflicted by Bardock had disappeared.
When Cell awoke he was surprised to find himself feeling wet. Opening his eyes he was baffled to see he was in a tank in some dark room panicking he blew the glass apart and as he got up he realized he had recovered. He recognized it as a lab. Gazing around he saw, the lab had lots of equipment ranging from robotics to biology.
He gazed around and noticed several robots working around the lab, Some were busy down loading combat data and repairing others while others stood still waiting for their orders.
"WELCOME CELL," said a voice.
He turned around to see a computer and a monitor looking across at him "What are you and where am I?"
"I'm what you would you call the last will of Dr. Gero or his hatred living." said the computer "I was created to guard you but I failed because of Kakarot's friends destroying you. Yet here you stand living and breathing how is that possible?" The artificial intelligence said confusion in it's robotic voice.
Cell began to explain everything that had transpired from his time in the future, to stealing the time machine and coming back here to absorb 17 and 18. To his defeat at the hands of Bardock.
The computer went silent to process the data. Finally it spoke. "Well it seems we must complete your evolution. However at your current state if you faced any of the other fighters you would be annihilated As such you need more power. I will have my remaining forces bring to you humans and saiyans for you to feed on. Then your victory will be complete." the computer began instructing it's forces to begin operations Harvest and program back up orders should it be destroyed.
A few days later, at North City People were going about their daily lives while soldiers patrolled the area looking for any since of the last war machines of the Red Ribbon army, while several saiyans stood by ready to jump in should the need arise. Panic had decreased since there had been no sightings of Cell or the Drones so the people of Earth thought the troubles were over but the Saiyans on the other hand were not convinced, they felt it was the calm before the storm. Little did they known that their thoughts were right. Outside the city legions of the automaton were heading towards them. Like wise similar groups were also heading to other cities. Their goal to harvest life to feed Cell.
While one women was buying groceries she gathered up some vegetables, she saw shadows begin covering the skies. Looking up she saw legions of mechanical nightmares above her. Dropping her bag she ran as with many others did, the people ran as the robots landed and began to head after them. The police and army began to fight back against the monsters, alarms were sent out to warn citizens of the attack. One person fell and was about to be grabbed when a foot came out of nowhere and smashed it to rubble, the saiyan who was ready for another round looked at them "Come on you scrap metal I got plenty for all of you?"
The saiyan's names was Calben. A former second class saiyan in the PTO. Now resurrected he was an elite. He knew this fight would be difficult, the drones had the skills and moves of some of the strongest fighters in the universe but he was determined to give his life to protect the Earthlings of this city. Activating his scouter he sent out a transmission.
"This is Calben! I'm currently located in North City we are under attack by the drones. I don't known what they have to gain by this but my squad and all available personal will attempt to protect it's citizens but we will need support! Over and out!" His transmission completed Calben charged the enemy regardless if he lived or died.
"AAAHAAAAA!" Calben yelled as he powered up, the saiyans and the defenders of North City engaged in a battle to defend the citizens from the mechanical monsters, a battle that raged on for hours, Organic vs steel, blood and oil mixed on the ground.
When the battle finally ended the city now looked like a war zone, bodies of robots, saiyans and humans lay on the ground both dead and deactivated.
"By the gods of Vegeta what happened here?" While most of them had seen and done brutal the killings, the scene around them because too much for some to handle causing one young recruit to throw up
Their squad captain looked at the recruit. "You okay kid?" He asked.
"Yes sir. Just getting used to the carnage." he said as he wiped the bile for his mouth.
The commanding officer took charge. "Alright, spread out and look for survivors."
"SIR! YES SIR!" they replied.
At this they spread out to look for survivors the came upon some of the underground bunkers, they proceeded to blast off the doors and the smell of death immediately hit their sensitive noses. Several were still unopened, when they opened another bunker several blasts came out making them jump back. The commanding officer shielded them from the blasts "HEY WATCH WHO YOUR SHOOTING AT!"
The shooting from the bunker came to a stop and several badly wounded soldiers came out "Good to see you captain Mudie." one of them spoke out
"At ease soldier." said Mudie.
The soldiers eased upon hearing his orders, Mudie then turned to his own men "Get some medics down here and find out how many are alive, wounded, missing, or dead"
"SIR! YES SIR!" The troops saluted
After several hours of searching and treating people they came to the conclusion that about 95% of the people living in North City and Garrison were gone, but the strange thing about it was not that they were mostly dead but that there were more just missing causing confusion among the high command, hearing the reports of attacks at other locations across the earth from their command centers, this was not an isolated incident more people were being reported missing rather than dead in all the attacks, The possibility that the reason there were no bodies being found was because they were simply being vaporized was already ruled out by captains of other troops that had come across these attacks because during their investigations they did not find any scorch marks or craters caused by any energy attacks or weapons of any kind
Captain Mudie began having his troops interview the surviving witnesses and saiyans that participated in the battle to gather more information on what happened
"So can you tell me what you saw during the battle?" One saiyan asked another saiyan named Dolla
Dolla was a former 2nd class saiyan in the Planet Trade Organization, now upgraded to an elite thanks to her intense training she had been injured during the battle of North City but it wasn't as bad as the other survivors "I was out on patrol when i heard the screaming, that was when we saw hundreds of them we rushed into battle against the tin heads, at first we were able to hold them back" She looked down " But more of them began showing up and began using the same fighting styles as Kakarrot and Prince Vegeta and several of the earth's Z warriors and were able to overcome us, we tried holding them back but they were able to dive underground, it became to overwhelming, i was blasting one of them when i was kicked in the head which caused me to lose consciousness and when i finally came too the fight was over"
The saiyan interviewing her nodded "Did you happen to see any humans being attacked by these drones during your battle?"
Dolla eyebrows furrowed "I did catch a glimpse of a human female trying to flee some drones during the fight but the strange thing was the drone didn't try to attack her it grabbed a hold of her and flew off with her"
"Are you sure?" The saiyan asked and got a nod from Dolla
Once he was done interviewing her he immediately went to find his commanding officer Mudie to give him this information, after finding him and giving him the information on what Dolla saw he went on to report this directly to their HQ on Planet Vegeta
The Z fighter's had given up their search for Cell after his battle with Bardock several hours earlier and they were now at Kame house with Master Roshi, Oolong and Chiaotzu filling them in on what has happened, Bardock and Turlus has teleported back to Planet Vegeta when they received a transmission from the Command Center saying there was some new information about the drone attack that they needed to hear but Bardock had left his scouter behind so in case they needed to communicate with them they could call them directly
"If we can't sense Cell then where is he? He's hiding right? Tienasked
"That's what he does and the world's a big place to hide in plus all the chaos that's been going on around the world with those drone attacks and androids" Krillin commented
Chiaotzu sat up "He's gotta be injured after that fight with Bardock, but he has saiyan and namekian blood in him he can heal fast and get stronger afterward"
"So what then we'll just get back out there and find him before he has a chance to fully recover, if we don't find him fast he's going to take total control over this world" Piccolo growled "We can chase cell as much as we want put were going to need Kakarrot, Vegeta, Raditz, and their hybrid children to complete their training to achieve their ascended forms if were going to have any hope of defeating him"
"What's the use of trying to chase after him if he can just sense you coming and hide until you go away?" Oolong questioned
"Well those dampener prototypes seemed to work earlier but they only work for a couple of hours, they need to be perfected before we can used them again" Krillin thought looking down to one of the prototypes sitting on the table in front of him
"What about the androids 17 and 18? If he's started hunting them by now he could reach his perfect for before any of us can even try to stop him" Roshi asked
"The saiyans already have their orders to keep on the lookout for them but they haven't come back with any reports of sightings" Krillin told him
"If worse comes to worse i'm sure the the new Super Saiyan form is gonna be strong enough to deal with Cell right?" Oolong hopes but was met with silence
Kakarrot, Raditz, Rikun, Kairi, Gohan and Chidori were all sitting around the front door of the hyperbolic time chamber watching the clock wind down by the minute when they heard someone running down the hall toward them making them all turn to see a saiyan soldier run up to them "Kakarrot and Raditz you both are needed in the command post!" He told them urgently before heading back
Kakarrot had the saiyans make a temporary command post at the Lookout several hours earlier so he and Raditz wouldn't be left out of the loop on what was happening on the earth below them, Kakarrot and Raditz both got to their feet telling their children to stay where they were and ran to the command post inside one of the multiple rooms. Several tables were lines up against the walls int he circular room with holographic computer screens lining against the wall, a work station, maps and technicians lining the desks of computers. There was a holographic image of Earth acting like a disco ball above the desks which pinpointed all the shelters the saiyans had built, all the locations were saiyan troops were currently located and all the other command posts on earth
In the middle of room there was one desk with a large three monitor computer in the middle monitor they saw their father Bardock along with Turlus and King Vegeta "What was so urgent you needed to see us?" Kakarrot asked
"We have a problem" Turlus grimaced
"Along with all the other problems we have right now?" Raditz crossed his arms "Can't you handle this"
"Yes we can but we need you two to be alert on this new situation" Turlus told them
"Alright so what's so urgent?"
"There was an attack on North City a few hours ago from the drones we were sent to defend he earth against." Bardock began informing them getting a nod from his two sons "The problem is when our troops were doing a search and rescue after the battle most of the residents weren't found dead but they mostly came up missing, we've recently learned this isn't the first time this has happened we've been getting reports from other troops across the earth that more and more or earth's residents have come up missing in these drone attacks within in the last couple hours"
Kakarrot and Raditz both turned to each other completely baffled, "Well have you thought maybe the drones are vaporizing the humans and that's why you haven't found any remains?" Kakarrot asked
"That theory was ruled out as soon as it was brought up" King Vegeta spoke up "There is a witness from a saiyan soldier that the drones have been abducting the humans in their attacks, and we have recently gotten video of some eyewitness accounts"
The brothers turned to the screen on their right which brought up what looked like a cell phone video of someone running during a drone attack and they watched as one of he drones swooped down in front of the camera grabbing a man by the backpack he had on and lifting him into the air a few seconds later the person taking the video was probably grabbed too because they began screaming and the camera was lifted into the air before they probably dropped the phone and it fell to the ground
"What's going on?" Raditz frowned
"That's what we are trying to figure out, we haven't been able to think of a reasonable explanation for this" Bardock told them as baffled as they were
Kakarrot began trying to think what the drones could possible be doing with the humans they were capturing "What happened to Cell" He asked very suddenly "I thought you were with Piccolo and the others heading into battle with him when we last heard from you?"
"We were, Bardock here engaging with him in a one on one and managed to hurt him pretty badly but with all those smart genes in him he managed to trick us with a Solar Flare attack and escape, we spent hours trying to locate him but he completely disappeared" Turlus told them, getting Kakarrot thinking he knew the location they were heading in when they went off to fight Cell and he remembered as a child that had been the exact same location he has gone in when he was a child to defeat the Red Ribbon Army HQ, he never fully searched the remains of the HQ base but could there have possibly been some sort of lab for Gero there as well
"What it is Kakarrot?" Bardock asked seeing the look on his face
"I think i may have an idea on what's going on" Kakarrot told them about the location of the Red Ribbon Army's original HQ and how close it was to the spot where they had battled Cell, so he thought was it possible that Cell would know of that location and Gero could possible have a lab there that was left unchecked
"If Cell was able to get to a secondary Lab he could have taken control of the drones" Raditz eyes widened with realization
"And that would be why the drones have been abducting humans so the life force he need's to get stronger would be coming right too him instead of having to go to different cities and have it broadcasted on the news and have us show up when he knows we will" Kakarrot concluded
"But shouldn't Cell be too weak to do anything right now? He took a severe beating from Bardock and i doubt he could have gotten too far let alone have the strength to be absorbing humans right now" Turlus asked
"Well Cell is part saiyan, i would not put it past this Gero to create his own version of a regeneration tank to heal Cell in times like this" King Vegeta said
"You need to send some troops to the Red Ribbon's former HQ now, that may be where all the human's are being harvested, even for a saiyan it takes ours for us to fully heal from a battle like that" Kakarrot told them
Bardock nodded running off and cutting the transmission off but as soon as that transmission was cut off a call began coming in from Bardock's scouter, Raditz frowned and pressed answer on the screen "I thought we just told you what to do"
"Raditz?!"
Kakarrot frowned turning back to the screen "Krillin?"
