Sorry for the terribly long wait. I am generally struggling to find the time to write things up now.
I don't like Bella, but I felt that this chapter would be best in her POV….well most of it. Besides, we get a bit of more information on the way Edward views things. (And please don't hate what he has to say. Change has been difficult for him too)
Disclaimer: I do not own twilight
Bella's POV
Edward's new brother was…strange. The way he acted was very unhuman; more accurately, he reminded me of a feral dog but still held the innocent eyes of a puppy….well, when he wasn't glaring at me anyway.
At first, he had acted rather nasty towards me but then Alice got him to calm down. When I had been invited in (with a little bit of protest from Edward) I was debating whether I should or not. I was kind of afraid of Jasper with the way he seemed rather out of control but there was a part of me that really liked the idea of hanging out with Edward a little longer and if I could use 'helping Jasper out' as an excuse to spend more time with him then I will.
I have to admit, I was rather intrigued when Alice and Edward told me why Jasper acted the way he did and even more amazed when they mentioned he was Rosalie's brother. I didn't know much about Rosalie (Other than the fact the she disliked me for some reason) but Edward had told me about his family once and how they came to be and he mentioned how Rosalie and her brother were involved in a car accident after their parents were murdered and they were being kidnapped. They never found her little brother. It just seems like something that would never happen; of all people to find Jasper and it was Rosalie's 'sister'. The crash didn't even happen nearby the Cullen house so it amazed me how Jasper managed to live so close.
When Edward's dad, Carlisle, arrived home, Jasper's hostile attitude changed after he led him out of the room where we were playing monopoly. He had come back in the room about ten minutes later and jumped up on the table that we were sitting at which startled me.
"Damn it, Jasper. You know you're not allowed to jump up on the furniture" Edward cursed.
Jasper didn't seem to pay any attention to Edward as his eyes were set on Rosalie and extended his right wrist out with a big smile on his face.
"Look what daddy buy me" he said proudly.
He even spoke in a childish manner. I kind of felt sorry for him. All those years on his own, he must have struggled to develop his speech. Rosalie gasped, a fake one, but it was to let him know that she was interested in what he was showing her.
"Wow, Jazz. It looks great on you" she complimented.
"You're one of us now, bro" Emmett smirked.
I noticed Edward roll his eyes at them and he gave me the impression that he wasn't too keen on his newest brother. I would probably ask him about it later when there isn't anyone else around.
"Your one is same" Jasper stated as he pointed to the cuff on Emmett's wrist.
"That's right, dude. That means you're as cool as me now" he bragged.
Jasper held a rather cute grin as he said that which made me forget how scary he seemed a little earlier.
"Jasper, sweetie, off the table" Esme told him as she walked into the lounge.
He did as he asked as he jumped from the table and onto the sofa that Alice was sitting on. She smiled at him as he begun to fiddle with the necklace around her neck which had the Cullen crest on it. I kinda liked how traditional the Cullen family were; it would have been rather cool to have some sort of crest to resemble my family line and it would have been something to treasure.
I struggled to tear my gaze away from Alice and Jasper with how close they seemed. Did they like each other? Would it be weird if they did? They aren't related but they were supposed to be posing as brother and sister.
If the closeness didn't convince me enough, when Jasper was done fiddling with her necklace, he nuzzled his nose against her neck which reminds me strangely of cats. It was actually a very cute gesture but odd at the same time.
Realizing that it was my turn to roll the dice, I turned back around the table and continued the game.
Edward offered to take me home which I accepted, gladly. I liked him a lot but I was waiting for him to make the first move; you know, maybe ask me out on a date or something. I mean, he's giving me the impression that he's into me and I'm pretty sure that he knows that I like him too. Well if he makes me wait too long, I guess I'll have to end up being the one to ask him out.
"Sorry about, Jasper. He can be a complete nightmare around people. I wouldn't be surprised if my dad came home one day with a harness to put on him" he chuckled; though it wasn't an amused chuckle.
I shrugged in reply. "It's okay. It's not like he hurt me or anything" I stated.
"Perhaps not, but he could have" Edward commented rather darkly.
I looked at him, studying his face but it was rather empty of emotions.
"He seemed harmless to me. Maybe he was just trying to put on a scary front" I suggested.
Edward shook his head and held a rather strained look on his face. "No, he really is dangerous. Not serial killer knife and gun kind of dangerous but more like, animal rip you apart dangerous. If Alice hadn't of come out…." he didn't finish off his sentence.
"I'm sure he isn't that bad" I tried to shake off.
I mean, he appeared to be smaller than Edward, maybe one or two years younger. He may have growled at me in a feral way but I still can't imagine him ripping people apart. No, Edward was just exaggerating (although it was his other brother that usually did that). Edward stopped walking and turned to me.
"Okay, well how about this. Jasper killed three squirrels with his bare teeth and hands and we ended up finding the remains scattered outside our house. It was his way in hoping to attract Alice, who, of which, was one of the victims of Jasper's violence just because she refused to talk to him for a few days. Not only that but he even attacked my dad whenever he got scared leaving claw marks and bike marks all up his arms. It's only a matter of time before he does something worse and we'll probably end up like those poor squirrels" Edward finished.
I was stunned. Was he trying to scare me away and make sure I never come back to his house again?
"Is that why you hate him? Because you're afraid that he'll hurt your family?" I questioned him.
Edward was a very responsible person and he loved his family very much so it made sense why he didn't seem very friendly to his newest brother. I mean, he isn't nasty to him but he doesn't open his arms for him either.
"I don't hate him" he muttered as he carried on walking.
I sped up my pace to keep up with him. "You still didn't answer my question" I noted.
Edward sighed and opened his mouth to speak but his eyes remained ahead. "We were never even given a choice. He shows up one day and dad, being the big softie he is, lets him stay. It was only supposed to be temporary and I didn't even like the idea of that but I had to endure it. And then Rose figures out who this kid really is and then all of a sudden, dad wants to keep him. It was probably because he was afraid that he would lose Rose but who cares? She isn't exactly the nicest person in the world"
I wasn't sure what to say to that. I knew that Edward had a tight bond with his dad (unlike the one I had with mine) but Jasper seemed like the kind of kid who requires special needs and lots of attention; attention that used to belong to Edward.
"I think you should tell your dad how you feel about this" I advised.
It's possible that Carlisle wasn't even aware that Edward felt a little neglected. I mean, we all know that Edward copes well as an individual but that doesn't mean he isn't attached to his father. I felt sorry for him.
"You don't understand. If dad isn't working, all his time has to be spent on Jasper otherwise he'll end up having one of his tantrums. Trust me, he's sixteen but mentally he's still a toddler and if he doesn't get what he wants…" Edward once again failed to finish his sentence.
"Maybe if you just asked. You would be surprised" I told him.
He looked at me and smiled.
"I guess you're right. Tomorrow though; it's getting late and night times are a must for Jasper. He won't go to bed unless dad is there by his side" Edward said as he rolled his eyes.
That was the last we spoke of Jasper on my way home as our conversation drifted to other random things from my days at school and life at home etc. When we were about 5 minutes away from my house though, our conversation was interrupted by the sound of Edward's phone buzzing in his pocket. When he looked at the screen, he rolled his eyes and muttered something along the lines of 'now he wants to speak to me' before putting the phone against his ear.
"Hi dad….what?...seriously?Again?...No, we haven't…..we'll let me get Bella home and I'll help look for him"
Edward snapped his phone shut and put it back in his pocket; looking rather annoyed.
"What happened?" I asked, curiously.
"Jasper's run away…again" he muttered.
Again? He has done this before.
"He managed to sneak out the house the moment dad wasn't looking. He thinks that he's come looking for me because he doesn't fully trust you. Like he expects you to attack me or something" he said as he rolled his eyes.
I chose that moment to turn around and head back in the direction we came from with a faster pace.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"To help" I stated clearly.
It was getting dark. What if he got lost? Of course he wouldn't. He's probably been living in these woods for years but it must have still worried the family.
"Oh no, no Bella. Knowing Jasper, he'll probably pounce on you the moment you're in distance and you won't even see it coming" Edward protested.
I ignored him and kept moving forward, he must have learnt by now that I don't do what others tell me to just because of my 'safety'. I'm the clumsy one, if I get hurt, it won't be because of Jasper, it would probably be because I trip over something as stupid as a stick.
"Eward!" A sudden voice shouted and my eyes scanned the area to try and figure out where that voice came from.
Edward pulled me back and took a step forward. He looked at me pleadingly before speaking.
"Please just wait here" he begged. The look he was giving me made me feel kind of bad. He was only trying to protect me, I should at least be grateful, even if it was just from a sixteen year old kid. I nodded at him and he smiled back, appreciatively.
Edward begun to walk forward, looking high up. Was he looking in the tree? Oh wow, Jasper was really up there! And it was so high up! How on earth had he managed to get up there? And where was his shirt?
When Edward got close enough he was getting ready to jump out. Wait, at that height? He could get himself killed. I gasped as Jasper leaped out of the tree and right in front of Edward…on his two feet. Just what else could that kid do? He really had been in the wild for a long time.
"What are you doing out here, Jasper? Mom and dad are worried" Edward told him in a stern voice.
"Me potect you….I mean, I potect you. I not want you to be hurt. Fowest is a bad pace and it hurts you" Jasper replied in an innocent manner.
Jesus, he sounds just like Edward. I liked it when he offered to walk me home but that was because I got to spend some time alone with him, he wanted to walk me home because he was afraid that I would get hurt in the forest. Hearing it from Edward was just him being over protective but from a sixteen year old boy who has spent most his life in this place? Was the forest really that dangerous? I mean, since the guy isn't wearing a shirt, I can see a few scars on his torso but where did they come from?
"I don't need protecting, Jasper" Edward commented, rather annoyed.
"Dad, he's over here!" I heard another voice yell.
It was Emmett as he slowed down to a walk, panting. Jasper took a step back and tensed as his figure had appeared so suddenly as well as his loud voice.
"It's alright, dude. It's only me. Bros remember?" Emmett said to calm Jasper a little.
It seemed to work as Jasper relaxed and moved closer to Emmett.
"Bwos" he grinned.
Cute.
I then noticed Carlisle slowly approaching, cautiously, not wanting to startle Jasper like Emmett had. Emmett could startle anyone due to his big size and loud voice but not the way it did with Jasper. So he got easily startled? It was probably another quirk he gained while living out here in the woods.
Edward gave Carlisle a nod as he turned around and walked closer to me.
"No! I not want leave Eward" Jasper yelled as he tried to move forward but Emmett put a hand on his shoulder.
"Come on man, Edward's not gonna get hurt. He was just taking Bella home. Us men don't need protecting. We protect the ladies" he joked as he gave him a small nudge on the shoulder.
I had to roll my eyes at his comment. Typical Emmett. But sure enough, it worked as Jasper looked Emmett in the eyes for a few seconds, like he was testing him but I guess he passed as he just nodded and turned around to head to Carlisle, wrapping his hand around his wrist.
"We'll meet you at home" Carlisle told him.
"Yeah, thanks" Edward muttered as he begun to walk again.
I think Carlisle heard the slightest tone of attitude in Edward's voice as he frowned a bit. I smiled as him before turning around in the direction of my house and the way Edward was heading to follow him. Well that was certainly…eventful.
Okay, I'm not too sure about this chapter and I also have to check it for any mistakes but its way past my bedtime sooo, I'll correct any when I get the time.
I would appreciate those who take a minute of their time to review, I dunno, what you think of Edward, Jasper or even Bella. Oh, And Emmett...They are forming a little connection.
