the sword in the darkness

DISCLAIMER: Every character mentioned and anything in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire belongs to George R. R. Martin. I own nothing except the writing.

A/N: Jon/Arya, in which the Stark children and Jon grew up as cousins (Jon as King Rhaegar's bastard son; Lyanna died in childbirth, and the Sack of King's Landing never happened, so Elia and her children survived) and Jon is chooses to be a knight of the Kingsguard.

"My lady." Jon lowered his head in deference, careful to keep his eyes over her shoulder. "Do you have council business with His Grace? I will have to ask for your patience. His Grace is - "

"Yes, yes, yes," Arya interrupted, her brow furrowing in annoyance. "I do not wish to see His Grace. I want to see you, stupid."

Jon straightened, sighing. "I'm on duty, Arya."

"I can see that," she snapped. "But you're avoiding me!"

He grimaced. "So I am."

"What, is it because of the kiss?" She stepped closer, and that definitely did not help. He fixed his eyes on the top of her head and held in his breath, trying not to remember what she'd smelt like a fortnight ago, and failing miserably. "Well, is it? Because of a moment of weakness. Because you enjoyed it and you feel guilty. Because you're a Kingsguard and that's bothering your poor miserable conscience." She stopped at the look on his face. "I want an answer, Jon."

"Arya, I'm on duty," he repeated, closing his eyes.

"Very well. But this isn't the end of it," she warned. She glanced to either side of the corridor, and before he could step away, she grabbed the top of his shirt and pulled him down, kissing him hard. He only had a few seconds to absorb the taste of her before she released him, spinning away, leaving him frozen, his burned hand tight around the hilt of his sword, and his lips tingling sharply. I promised, he reminded himself, guiltily, remembering his vows, and Uncle Ned's stern eyes and disapproval when he would discover the nature of their relationship, but somehow that did not make the tingling go away.
