Hallway outside the delivery room,
Metropolis General Hospital

"Clark Hiram Kent, I will kill you!" Tess Kent's statement turned into a painful shout when a contraction hit.

Clark looked at the man next to him and commented, "It's the pain talking... right?"

"Bring me the man who did this to me!" Tess commanded.

"Pain or not," Lex smirked a smirk of evil at Clark, "It seems my sister's asking for you."

"How much would you charge to kill me, Lex? Right now, here? I know you've got the Green-K to do it..."

"There isn't enough money in the world to save you, Clark," Lex chuckled openly and shamelessly, "I'm enjoying this."

"Laugh it up, Luthor," Clark narrowed his eyes at the other man, "Your time will come..."

"Maybe so, 'Hiram'," Lex retorted, "but not today."

"Not funny," Clark answered, "'Xander'."

"What have I told you about calling me that?" Lex asked with a snarl.

"That you get to call me 'Deadboy'?" Clark answered.

"I am not joking," his sister's demand cut off Lex's reply, "Bring him to me now!"

"Just how well do you think that invunerable skin works?" Lex mused.

"She has access to your files, I'm not testing it," Clark almost managed to avoid looking like he was pouting when he said that.

Tess's voice flowed sweet and tender from the delivery room, "Clark? Honey? You wouldn't make me go through this... special moment... alone, would you?"

When no response came from the Kansas-raised Kryptonian, his wife raised her voice, "Clark, you do not want to NOT get in here! If I can't break your hand now, I'll break something else later!"

Clark drew himself up and turned towards the room, adding over his shoulder, "Lex, if she kills me, I expect you to avenge me."

"Depends," Lex called after his younger friend, "Am I in your will?"

"I can always make Ollie godfather with my last breath," Clark threatened, just before entering the delivery room.
