The week went by with Fitz and Olivia spending most of their time talking to the owners of the house and lawyers. Olivia had yet to see the house in person, but she had scene pictures but more than that she trusted Fitz's judgment. They were in sync with everything they wanted in a house, she wasn't surprised, but it was almost a relief to know that soon they would have something all their own.
Friday afternoon found olivia and Fitz relaxing on the couch both exhausted from scrambling all week. Fitz was dozing, while olivia did the crossword from the paper and periodically asked Fitz for help. When we was finally awake he started peering at the clues over her shoulder, taking back the reading glasses that she had stolen from him earlier he started telling her the answers.
"56-down is myriad."
"Thanks."
"And 64- down is Cooper." She scribbled it in.
"7-across..." She cut him off and pulled the crossword away from him.
"Get your own! I want to finish it myself."
"But we never finish them alone!" He complained. It was true. Separately they never were able to finish a crossword without googling or asking the other for help.
"I haven't gotten to those yet. You have to stay at the same pace as me if you want to do it together!" She told him firmly. They settled in and worded in sync once again until her phone rang.
"It's Claudia." She spoke to her sister at least once a day, but since the proverbial shit had hit the fan every time her called Id popped up saying it was a family member her blood ran cold. Fitz seemed to have to opposite effect. He loved all her family members and she often caught him talking to them almost as much as she did, as if he was making up for lost time before he met them.
"Put it on speaker!" Fitz told her excitedly.
"What?" Liv answered putting the phone on speaker.
"Hey Ankle Biter!" Claudia's voice rang through the phone and Fitz busted out laughing.
"Oh I'm using that one." Fitz declared earning a glare from olivia.
"Hey Flyboy only I get to call her that!" Claudia defended her baby sister.
"So I assume all is, well not well, but the usual with you guys?"
"Yeah business as usual." She changed the subject immediately, "so how goes the house hunting?"
"We should be signing the papers sometime next week, and assuming the people don't back out we can move in right after Thanksgiving." Olivia told her, grinning proudly while she laid back on Fitz. He opened his legs so she could make herself comfortable inbetween, using his chest as a back rest.
"Okay so tell me what's it look like?"
"Uhm Fitz you wanna handle that one?" Olivia deferred to him since he was able to go see it in person when she had a night class.
"Wait you haven't seen it yet?"
"Well Fitz went a few days ago, but I had my math class, I saw lots of pictures though. It's perfect. It's got a huge yard and the backyard is beautiful. The landscaping has that grotto-y rock cliff thing going on with the pool and hot tub."
"I'll be spending Christmas in that." Claudia interrupted, but olivia ignored her interruption and Fitz's snickering and went on. "The bathrooms are huge, ours has separate bath and shower, which as you know is a requirement. The tub is huge, I think you me and everyone we've ever met could fit in it!"
"Kinky." Fitz lost it at this point and Liv jammed her elbow into his ribs.
"Ow Livvie!" She smirked a him unapologetic.
"The master bedroom has one of those window sitting areas that I've always wanted, but we have to paint because apparently the people that lived there before is thought red is an acceptable color for a living room."
"But you haven't actually seen it?"
"Nope."
"Who are you and what have you don't to my controlling, type A, lunatic sister!? She's kidding right Fitz? Seriously you're buying a house you've never seen?"
"I told her we could wait, but she said to just do it." Olivia shrugged,
"I trust his judgement. I'm desperate to get out of this apartment. Fitz can't even fit in out bed."
"That's cause you're a bed hog. She has been since we were kids. One nightmare and I would be sleeping on the floor next to my bed and she's spread out with all the pillows and blankets in mine."
"She's not that bad now but she does take all the pillows than she uses me as a pillow anyway!"
"Can you two maybe not be in cahoots. Besides I only sleep on you because you're always spread eagle on the bed!" Olivia defended herself. "And he doesn't fit on the bed because he's a giant, not because I may or may not hog the bed. His feet hang off the end like a kid at camp. It's ridiculous."
After the three of them laughed for a while Claudia's voice became serious again.
"So when do you guys have Thanksgiving break?"
"Next Monday." Fitz told her while Olivia shot him a concerned look at her tone.
"Okay Cammie and I can fly Friday night and the guys will come Tuesday. I uhm have a question to ask you though. It's kind of a big deal."
"Go for it." Olivia and Fitz spoke at the same time.
"Well I was thinking about bringing some people with me."
"Could you be more vague?" Olivia asked annoyed.
"Uhm Mom and Harrison."
"Mom?"
"Harrison!?" Fitz and Liv spoke at the same time.
"You know ita really annoying when you two do that aren't we so cute and in love we talk at the same time thing?"
"We know." They repled doing it again and laughing.
"Dad is going to Italy for business and Mom asked to come with us. I told her since it's your house I would ask you. Michael is fine with it. Aunt Kat has decided that since Huck and Cammie are going away that she will enjoy some time in the Caribbean. So it would just be Mom." Claudia quickly clarified knowing olivia hated their aunt.
"Okay I mean it's fine she wants to come, but are you going to tell me why you're suddenly talking to Mom."
"We found out some stuff Olly." Claudia told her sadly. She rarely called her Olly unless Olivia was sick or upset. It was what their Grams had called her.
"What stuff?"
"It's not anything that you need to know."
"If it made you, YOU of all people suddenly accept Mom, I think I need to know. I deserve to know."
"Is Fitz still there." She asked wanting to make sure Olivia would have someone to support her when she heard the news.
"I'm here." He assured her.
"So I'm sure you don't remember how uncle Michael died. You were only four. Grandpa as you know ran the legit part of the business and his brother ran the rest, well he had a son that died that night too," Olivia interrupted her,
"Yeah cousin Joey right?"
"Yes. He was supposed to take over the business and he was transiting for Joey and Michael to take over since grandpa and his brother were looking to retire. They were supposed to go to a warehouse to check out a shipment when the place blew. It killed Grandpas brother, uncle Michael and Joey, grandpa died the next year. Leaving only one person old enough to take over."
"Dad." Olivia said fearing she already knew where Claudia was going with her story.
"He did it. He killed half Mom's family for power, for the business. You know how devastated she was when he died. Dad ruined her. He ruined her for us. You don't remember how she was before, but she was a Mom. All those years of her being such a shitty parent overshadows the good years, but they happened and he took that away from us. They're both awful people Liv. I know that. But maybe she's not as evil as I thought. When she found out he did it. She left. Told him he could have the business she wouldn't interfere with that and he let her go. She's living in a hotel downtown. I've seen her a few times. Michael is using her connections to force Dad into retirement. He thinks if he can take over the business he can basically exile Dad to Italy. Which really is better than what we had planned before."
This news was too much for Olivia to handle at once. She knew her mother felt bad for basically abandoning her children while they were standing ten feet away, but Claudia accepting that made it real. The news about her father on the other hand should have come as a shock but it didn't. He was a killer. Rationally she knew that, but she had grown up with a man that could be warm and loving and be Dad just as often as he could be a father.
There was a disconnect in her brain. He was the parent that doted on her and taught her how to ride a bike, he was the father that killed half her family and effectively took away her mother. He was the parent that sent an armed lose cannon after her. When olivia didn't say anything Claudia became concerned.
"Fitz is she..." Olivia had her head in her hands between her knees. He rubbed her back and she made eye contact with him.
"She's processing, but she's a gladiator."
"Mom didn't want you to know for what it's worth. I know youre still pissed about what she said about Grams, she said you haven't spoken since you left. She really wants to keep you out of this. All of us did, but you're right you deserve to be in the loop as much as Michael and I."
"Thanks for telling me. I know how hard this must all be. I can't... I don't... I want to be shocked and disappointed but I'm not. I'm just numb and tired and I want my boyfriend to show me pictures of our pretty house than take me to bed."
"I can make that happen." Fitz assured her.
"Go a head, show her that house and I'm sure you'll tire her out." Claudia told Fitz her normal joking tone came back. "I've heard about your superpowers. I know you're capable of it." Fitz turned red from embarrassment and olivia laughed happy to have someone else on the receiving end of claudias mouth.
"Alright goodnight ankle biter, goodnight flyboy."
"Goodnig... Wait Harrison!?" Olivia
"Oh I was uh hoping you'd be distracted."
"I'm not that distracted. He didn't call me about it. I figured he would be with his family."
"We uhm well he and I have been, he's a really great guy. And he gets the life you know."
"Wait you and Harrison! You're dating Harrison? Ceecee he's a fetus!" Fitz exclaimed realizing what Claudia was trying to say before olivia. Claudia didn't beat around the bush so her trying to shocked Olivia and she was late to pick up what Claudia was saying.
"He's three years older than Liv, mister pot calling the kettle a cradle robber!"
"Okay you two cut it out." Olivia said feeling like she was breaking up a spat between siblings. "He's good looking and he's got that swag thing going on. He's a good guy. I'm happy for you." Olivia finally said once she digested the idea of her sister dating her oldest friend.
"He's definitely got some super powers of his own." Claudia said dreamily.
"Okay too much information! Ew!" Fitz and olivia said at the same time once again.
"Hey at least you didn't have to hear me banging Harrison in a hotel room! By the way please tell me your bedroom is sound proof otherwise I'm staying in a hotel!"
"You heard us? Oh god did Michael hear us, no don't answer that!"
"Of course he didn't hear you. Fitz is alive isn't he! A few seconds of hearing you moaning his name and the banging headboard and I almost wish he had. Put us all out of our misery."
"Okay it's officially this family is just way too close." Olivia said completely skeeved out, but also wondering how they were going to make it ten days with family stating at the house.
"On that note I bid you goodnight for real this time." Claudia said and hung up without any shame.
"I can't believe they heard us!" Olivia said burying her embarrassed face in Fitz's chest.
"I know, I just can't believe she waited this long to mock us with it." Fitz said amused, but relieved Claudia was next to them and not Michael or Huck.
"You two are evil. Seriously. A week of both of you ganging up on me and I'll be ready to put myself out of my misery. Especially because these walls are most definitely not sound proof. What are we going to do?"
"I'll buy them all a hotel room."
"I already told Cammie she could stay here. I don't want to scar her for life, and frankly I think you would just give her unrealistic expectations." Olivia flirted. "Besides everything will be booked by now. It's a good thing you've got a vehicle with a bed. Although we will still have to adjust." olivia looked down at what they were currently wearing, what they usually wore around the apartment, and realized their days of him laying in his shorts and nothing else and her sitting in one of his t shirts and panties were numbered.
"Well we just better make sure we make up for lost time." Fitz told her catching the mood she was in and quickly adapting. He moved her so that she was laying down next to him on the couch, than moved to hover above her.
"I'm going to have to really take advantage of the time we've got now." Fitz told her as he began nibbling on her neck and moving his hands under her t shirt. She thrust her hands into his curls and moaned from his touch. He leaned up so he could pull off her shirt, and at the same time there was a banging at the door.
"Liv Fitz open up its important!" They heard Abby from the opposite side of the door.
"Be really quiet." Olivia told Fitz whispering in his ear, feeling her warm breath on his neck drove him crazy and he moved his head down to catch her lips with his own.
"I know your home. Both your cars are here and before I knocked I heard heavy breathing! Seriously it's the middle of the afternoon don't you two do anything else to do!?"
"One minute!" Olivia yelled at the door as Fitz rolled onto his side allowing her to get up. She went into her room and pulled on a pair of Fitz's sweatpants that were about a foot too long and were swimming on her hips, but at least she was covered and threw a sweat shirt at him.
"She doesn't need another free show." Olivia said referencing last week when Abby had busted in and a shirtless Fitz had held a gun on her. Apparently the gun didn't stick but she couldn't stop talking about Fitz's pecs. Olivia wasn't in the mood for that. She was ready to handle whatever Abby wanted than make sure the neighbors radio wasn't the loudest thing in the building tonight.
"What?" Olivia opened the door disgruntled. She opened the door for Abby than made her way back to the couch and plopped down right next to Fitz.
"Were going camping!"
"You and David are going on a camping trip? Wait David camps? As in sleeps outside? On the ground? Where he might get dirty?" Fitz asked shocked. "WE I mean the four of us are going camping. And yes apparently he camps because he came up with the absurd idea to go this morning. I'm not going alone. Fitz was in the army so he can read a compass and light fight off bears."
"Navy." Fitz corrected her. He could read a compass, basic training had included wilderness preparedness, but it had been years and he hadn't particularly enjoyed being dropped off in the middle of no where without food or water.
"That's not the point. We, as in me and Fitz are not going camping." Olivia clarified when she felt fitz focusing on the wrong thing.
"Yeah Livvie doesn't do dirt. Or the elements." Fitz told Abby conclusively. While olivia loved going on hikes in the mountains or exploring the coves at the beach, that was pretty much the extent of her interest in nature.
"Oh come on Liv! Don't make me go alone."
"You shouldn't go either. Besides it's not just me. Fitz isn't going camping. He's not exactly wilderness man if you haven't noticed."
"Hey!" Fitz said mildly offended.
"Fitzgeralds don't go into the woods. A guy named Fitzgerald is going to get his ass kicked by a squirrel. Same goes for David."
"Seriously?" Fitz said appalled.
"I love you. You're sexy and manly and brilliant, but you're not a mountain man. And thank god for that. I can't wear Prada in the woods, therefore I don't want to go." It was very rare that Olivia's high maintenance side revealed itself, but she had no problem making her self clear.
"I have half a mind to take you camping just to prove I can be a mountain man!" Fitz said sensing a challenge.
"See liv he clearly wants to go!"
"He doesn't want to go I just insulted his ego and he wants to prove me wrong! Bee do you want to go camping this weekend or do you want to fuck me senseless on pictures of our house?"
"Oh definitely the second one."
"Goodbye Abby." Olivia said smiling at her victory. She didn't want to tear down his ego especially because she knew he could hack in the the woods, but he wouldn't enjoy it and she would hate it so what was the point. There were much more fun ways to stroke his ego, and all the better if she could wear French lingerie at the same time.
"If I come back with poison ivy or David gets my ass lost in the words I'm blaming you!" Abby said furiously, she didn't really want to go either, but she had only been dating David a month and still wanted to be the cool chick rather than the high maintenance bitch.
"If you get lost just head east til you hit ocean. That should help." Fitz told her already distracted thinking about dragging olivia into their room whether Abby left or not.
Laying in bed later that night, Fitz was drawing shapes on Olivia's nude back and making her guess what were. She had her head resting on his stomach, her curls tickling his chest, but neither one could possibly be more comfortable.
"I had a thought." Liv stuck her head up to look at Fitz.
"You always have a thought. Usually several Livvie." Fitz quickly replied earning himself an eye roll.
"So the house comes with a dock right?"
"Yeah it's a bit of a walk but you can see it from the bedrooms facing the back." He told her still not sure she was going with her question. He knew she loved that the house was by the water. When he told her she immediately stopped asking about square footage and room number, no longer caring that as she had said 'the house was a monstrosity' with eight bedrooms and 18,000 square feet she wasn't entirely wrong.
Fitz believed they would be in the house for years, it was perfect. There was no way he would sell their first home together even if they did relocate and he wanted to make sure there was room for her family and their future children.
"Okay so I know were spending money like gangbusters of late," they had decided in addition to the house to buy a jeep, once they got settled in the house, as their practical car. Olivia liked that it got great gas mileage to make up for their other two vehicles and Fitz liked that it was big enough for road trips.
"But I think we should get a boat. Like a speed boat to take out on the river, we could take it to the islands and stuff for day trips." The house backed up to the Providence river and olivia and Fitz had spent a few weekends taking the ferry out to Newport island and loved it.
"Uhm well you'll probably be mad at me." He looked at her guiltily.
"You didn't tell them to get rid of the dock did you!?" Olivia asked.
"No I kind of got your Christmas present already."
"Okay..." She wasn't really sure where he was going with this, she definitely couldn't have predicted what he was about to say.
"I bought you a boat Liv."
"You what!?"
"I named it The Ophelia."
"You named my boat after a Shakespeare character that drowned?" She asked mystified.
"I was hoping you would think it's clever..." He said disappointed. This wasn't the reaction he had planned. Plus now he had to find her a new Christmas gift. Olivia busted out laughing.
"I should be mad that you spent so much money on something you didn't know I wanted or that were probably going to cap size since you named her Ophelia, but I don't care. Thank you Bee. I love you so much!" Olivia burst out sitting up and hugging him while he sat frozen shocked at her turn around. They had decided since money was never an issue that they would have a joint fund and pay the house and all the bills that came with fifty-fifty, but otherwise they would just keep their money separate, but talk before buying any big ticket items.
She should probably have been upset that he didn't ask her, but honestly she didn't care. He knew what she wanted and he made it happen without her having to ask.
"Can I see it? When can we take it out? Is there a picture? How big is it? You didn't go over board did you? Can we water ski and stuff with it? Do people do that on a river?" She was bursting with questions Fitz could only answer a few.
"I have pictures on my email, it's small. I figured you'd want something fast and little. I told them I wouldn't pick it up until December 23rd, but it's ready. We just have to do that champagne naming ceremony thing and were good to go. I didn't even think about water sports, but we can do whatever you want screw what everyone else does." He pulled out his iPad so she could see pictures of it.
It was on the smaller side like he had said but defiantly big enough to fit the family or friends on there with them. It was all white, with beige seats and benches and "Ophelia" written in the same calligraphy as her tattoo on the back in black. Olivia was already in love.
"I love it Bee. Thank you so much, I'd say it's too much, but I really want it so I'll just have to express my gratitude over and over again."
