Disclaimer: I don't own anything VA related
"You know what?" Lissa said as she started scrambling off my bed. "I think it's time for me to go home." She turned around and gave me an apologetic look before leaving.
"Janine I think you should calm down and let her explain before jumping to conclusions," my dad said once my door was closed.
"Little too late for that don't you think?" she grumbled before looking at what I had on. "At least she changed."
"It's not like I did anything wrong!" I said defensively.
"Oh? So you didn't drink illegally and sleep with a stranger?" she asked rhetorically.
"Ok first I didn't sleep with a stranger."
"Knowing his first name doesn't make him an acquaintance," she snapped.
"Well it's a good thing I've slept with him before," I snapped back, automatically regretting the words. My eyes widened and I covered my mouth. My parents looked at me through narrow eyes. Aw shit, I thought.
"What's that suppose to mean?" my dad asked through his teeth.
"L-last night I went t-to a party Dimitri invited me to. Well…ok…yea…I kinda dropped the ball when I challenged Stan's ability to hold his liquor…clearly…"
"Clearly?" my mom asked. I raised my eyebrows and she got the message. "Clearly."
"So you and Belikov made up?" my dad asked. I shook my head.
"Don't get ahead of yourself, old man. But I'm not going to lie…making up is looking very appealing," I said, biting my lip at the memory.
"Just remember what I told you," he said. "And don't think I didn't hear the underlying message that this wasn't your first time."
"We were two consenting adults in love the first time and two drunk consenting adults giving into lust the second time around. Nothing more to say."
"I still think it's stupid. And why were you on the couch?" my mother demanded.
"Mom, there was no way in hell I was going to make it to my room," I blantly stated. "Plus, what the fuck are you still doing here? Aren't you suppose to off on your suicide mission?"
"Where's your car?" she asked, avoiding my question.
"Still at Dimitri's. Did you want me to drive drunk and exhausted?"
"W-" Before she could continue the interrogation my phone went off.
"Hello?" I greeted slowly.
"Roza! I wanted to know if you could come over for dinner. I need to give you something," Olena said on the other line.
"Uh…ok then," I said, confused about what that meant.
"Great! I'll see you at six, sweetie!"
After we hung up I just stared at my phone before getting up to change, telling my parents I had to go.
"And how do you plan to get there?" my mom asked, clearly hoping she ruined my plans.
"I got a plan," I said smugly as I pressed "Call" on my phone.
"Oh, Roza, I didn't know you'd be coming with Dimka," Olena said loud enough for the Belikova sisters to hear, making them turn and look at us.
"Yea well I misplaced my car keys so I asked him for a ride."
"Ok," she said unconvincingly, a knowing glint in her eyes, before she turned to Dimitri. "Tasha's not with you right?"
"No," he said slowly, confused about why she asked, as we sat down. "She had a meeting after work."
"Sure she does," Vika mumbled next to me.
"Oh good!" Olena said over her daughter. "In a few weeks I'm throwing Zoya's first birthday party and you two are invited . But just you two." Basically no plus one.
"I'll be there," I said as I picked up the running little girl. She giggled and gave me a kiss. "Do you want anything special?" She thought about it before whispering it in my ear. I giggled and promised to do my best to get it. Soon after we all headed into the dining room, catching up while we enjoyed Olena's cooking.
"Olena, do you want me to bring anything for the party?" I asked once the conversation started steering towards the Valentine's Day. "Like pick up the cake or drinks or anything."
"Well I will be needing to spend the morning setting up and baking. Since you're offering, would you mind picking up the pizza's and the cake?"
"No problem. What's the theme?"
"You'll see when I give you the invitation," she said cryptically. "OH! That reminds me…hold on." She ran off and came back with a light pink envelope. "Here you go."
"Thanks," I said, turning it over to open it, but Olena asked me not to do it. Viktoria whispered in my ear that we were keeping the theme a surprise for Zoya. "Oooh well if you'd like I can pick her up in the morning and take her with me while you set up…or even have her spend the night with me. If that's okay with you, Karo."
"Oh please! We could start setting up the night before and I'm sure she would love that."
"Well ok then. Actually, if you want, I can have all three kids over, so they're not in your hair." Sonya and Karo thanked me, saying that it was a wonderful idea. "By the way, who's doing the cake?"
"Actually…I haven't ordered it yet," Olena admitted.
"Well great! I have someone that can do it."
"Oh no, Roza, that's fine. You're already doing enough, I wouldn't want you to spend extra on the cake."
"Nonsense. Sparky values his life too much to charge me. I just…would you mind if he comes? Him and Lissa, I mean."
"Oh. You're friends that got married? Oh that's fine. They can come," Olena said.
"Great! Give me a minute then," I said before stepping out to the front porch.
"What?" Christian grumpily greeted me.
"Oh I'm sorry did I interrupt anything? Don't care," I quickly answered, knowing he'd give me some smart ass remark. "Look, I got an order to place."
"Can't you call the catering line during business hours…like normal people?"
"No cus normal people don't have their best friend shagging it up with the owner. Now do you want the business or not?"
"Am I getting paid?"
"What do you think? Just remember you have to deal with me for the rest of your life, and if you say no it'll come bite you in the ass…over…and over…and over again."
"FINE! What is it?"
"I need a birthday cake. For a girl's first birthday. I'll come by tomorrow with the details since I still don't know what it is. Oh and you and Liss are invited to the party."
"Who's turning one? I mean unless you found a way to hide a belly for six months and then a child for a whole year…well you were kinda chubby last year…"
"Shut up Sparky! It's for Zoya, Dimitri's niece. Olena invited me and I offered to get the cake and take care of the kids the night before…and you and Lissa are coming to be my constant splash of cold water."
"Why?" he asked. I could hear the smirk in his voice. Stupid bastard. "Afraid you won't be able to keep your hands off him? Even with a bunch of kids running around? You know, Rosie, for someone who doesn't want the guy, you sure are in his life a lot."
"You know what…Good fucking night. I'll see you tomorrow!" I hung up, frustrated, and walked back to where everyone had gone back to the living room. When Dimitri looked up and saw a big smile filled his face, and I felt myself returning it, all the frustration dissipating into the air as I joined him and accepted the hot chocolate he gave me. Extra chocolate just how I like it.
"…I can't wait! Ferris wheels…deep fried food…games with stuffed teddy bear prizes," Vika rambled about.
"You know you're face is going to break out and you're going to get fat from the food right?" Sonya said, earning a glare from her baby sister.
"Are you guys talking about the carnival in next week?" I asked.
"Yea…are you going?" Karo asked as she bounced her niece on her lap.
"Oh…I…huh…don't know. I haven't been home the past two years that they've had it and I completely forgot about it. I might just go with my friends or my co-workers."
"Well my family's going so you can join us if you'd like," Dimitri suggested. I was about to accept the offer when Christian's words played in my ear.
I gave a tight smile and said, "That's fine. You guys are going as a family, I wouldn't want to impose. I'll probably end up going with my coworkers after work and meeting up with my friends, but I'll probably see you guys there." Dimitri noticed the shift in my mood, gave a concerned look. I just gave him a small smile and asked to play with Anja. The night went on calmly, I would play with the kids while talking with the adults and pretty soon Dimitri and I were heading back to his place so I could grab my car.
A week later…
"Hey Sonya, you free after work on Saturday?" I asked while I back some dresses on the rack, a blue one catching my eye.
"Yea maybe…why?" she asked as she closed the register.
"The carnival's coming tomorrow and I was wondering if you and Alberta wanted to go after work on Saturday."
"Uh huh and a certain Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome won't just so happen to be there would he?" Alberta asked from the other side of the store, where she was organizing the displays.
"I honestly don't know. He asked if I wanted to go with him and his family but I declined. If he's there when we go then it's by chance, I swear on my…my…" I said, struggling to find something I loved enough to swear on. Before I could find the word, the chimes at the front rang. "Sorry we're closed. Come back in an hour," I said when I didn't hear Sonya say anything or the doors chime again. Instead I heard Sonya clear her throat and give me a pointed look when I looked at her weird. Before I could turn to see who was at the door, he spoke.
"I can read, Roza," Dimitri said. I dropped the dress I had been putting back and spun around to see him, dark wash jeans and navy button down and all.
"Could have fooled me, Comrade. I'm still on my lunch break so if you need help finding clothes you're going to have to wait."
"Actually, I came because it's your lunch break. I was wondering if you wanted to grab a bite to eat," he asked, looking down at his feet shyly. God he looked so cute with his hair falling over and framing his face while blushed. I bit my lip, wanting to say yes but not sure if it was a good idea.
"I actually already ate," I said, deciding to stick close to the truth. "And I want to finish doinf the go-back racks. Sorry."
"That's fine. How about dinner then?"
"I-"
"Would love to go," Sonya said, throwing me daggers with her eyes. I just averted everyone's eyes. "She'll be ready at 5." He broke out into a wide smile and nodded in thanks, before saying goodbye and leaving.
"What was that for!"
"You already slept with the guy…only makes sense you go on a date." Yes, I had told Sonya. I mean, she was the only one to give me motherly advice, unlike my mother who chewed me out and then packed her bags and left. Yup. Mommy went bye bye. I had done what Olena suggested and made peace with my mother…but then Stan's party happened and she left with us on rocky terms.
"Don't you get it? A date is exactly what I don't need! What if…what if it seals the deal."
"Is that such a bad thing?" Alberta asked.
"Well no…but…"
"Not buts not cuts no coconuts," Sonya chimed. "We need you to get a ready. Grab that blue dress."
"What dress?"
"The one you were oogling at, don't think I didn't see it. Now grab it and put it on," she said in an affirmative voice. I knew better than to argue to I grabbed the dress and put it on…and when I looked at myself in the mirror I couldn't believe it.
It was a sleeveless navy blue dress that came to my mid-tight, but the teired ruffle skirt gave it a longer look. A satin ribbon tied at my waist, making my curve more noticeable. Since it wasn't a low cut neckline, I didn't have to worry about my boobs popping out, and the dress had a playful sense to it rather than sultry, which I think for this dinner was perfect. The back was dipped a little low. It was cut out from the bottom of my shoulder blade to the top of the ribbon.
I walked out and twirled. Sonya and Alberta both had big smiles, all of us knowing this was the dress.
"I got just the accessories," Sonya said as she ran to the back. When she came back she handed me a diamond tennis bracelet and diamond studs. She looked down at feet and smirked. "Good thing you wore your navy flats."
I looked down and laughed. "Powers that be I guess."
"Oh my god! He seriously asked you that?" I said laughing at the story. We had finished eating and were now working on sharing a brownie a la mode. Tonight had been fun and light and relaxing. No strings attached, no vying for reconciliation. Just two people having dinner and sharing stories.
"Yup. He wanted to know how he could keep you and get the girl he liked," Dimitri said, shaking his head at his nephews question.
"And what did you say?"
"That he can't have two girlfriends. He could only keep one or it would end up hurting both of them and he'd get left with nothing."
"Smart advice. Your son's going to lucky to have you raising him."
"If I raise him," he muttered. I look at him confused and asked what he meant. "She left. More like I told her I wouldn't marry her and she stormed off and hasn't gotten in contact yet. Not like I've really been making an effort either. I called her doctor once though, just to get an update on the baby and he said it's all looking good. That the next four months should be easy."
"I'm so sorry," I said honestly as I placed my hand on top of his and squeezed it. Sure the baby probably wasn't meant to happen, but that doesn't mean Dimitri should miss out on a chance to watch him grow. I bit the inside of my cheek wondering if I could get my dad's help to get Dimitri his rights.
"It's fine," he said with a small smile as he brought my hands to his lips and kissed bottom of my palm, nuzzling his cheek into my hand. "I have you and that's all that matters."
Tears filled my eyes. Here was this man, about to loose his child, and he was grateful I was with him. Why is it so hard for me to return the feeling? Because you're stopping yourself, my inner mind told me.
"Dimitri…" I said softly, even though I didn't make an attempt to get my hand back.
"I know. I've been trying so hard to keep this dinner friendly and to give you time, but Roza I can't anymore. It hurts more not having you in my arms than to not be in my child's life. It's agonizing seeing you and not being able to pull you close to me and kiss you. I can't be your friend…not when I have all this love brewing up inside me and no way to give it to you."
"Then don't hold back," I whispered. I don't know if it was meant for him, or for me, but I know he heard me.
"What?"
I looked up at him, more confident saying it this time. "Then don't hold back. Maybe all I needed was for you to kiss me and hold me in your arms. I've been stopping myself from thinking with my heart…maybe because I was waiting for you to show not tell."
"So does this mean-?"
"There's a carnival in this weekend. Ask me to it," I said, almost like a command. He raised an eyebrow at me.
"Roza, would go to the carnival with me?"
I broke into a big smile and said, "I thought you never asked." It didn't take long for him to pay and take me home.
"You know I left my car at the boutique," I said once we got to my front door
"I know," he sad, grinning widely. "Guess that means you'll have to catch a ride with me in the morning and get breakfast together."
"Don't be so smug, I could just call Sonya or Alberta to pick me up."
"Yea, but you'd rather go with me wouldn't you?" he asked as he pinned me to the front door, one hand resting on the door, next to my head, while the other lay on my hips.
"Hmm maybe…but just because I can do this," I said before stepping on my tip toes and pressing my lips against him softly. He kissed back, just as soft, and we kept the kiss soft and slow. After a while I broke away, my eyes still closed and a smile on my face. "Good night, Comrade."
"Wait," he said as he squeezed my waist. "Last week you said you didn't want to go to the carnival. Why did you have me ask you out?"
"Correction. I said I didn't want to crash your family outing by tagging along, I never said I didn't want to go. Yea, I was going to try and not be left alone with you, but well I can't stay away and everyone's seen it so I just came to terms with the fact that I've forgiven you and I'm ready to move on…with you. I just wanted you to ask me out…as a date."
"Well I'm glad I did," he said as he gave me another kiss, this one more heated the one earlier, making me want to pull him to my room and take him. When he pulled away, I pouted. "See you in the morning, Roza."
I sighed as I watched him walk to his truck before I turned around and opened the door and went to my room. I'm going to hell for this, I thought, and I didn't care.
A/N: Are you happy :) they got back together!
Which means...sadly...not much is left to do...BUT FRET NOT! I HAVE A PLAN...a sequel :) more details to come later :D
But that's not the important notice...I've actually finished writing Behind Closed Doors (I know I cried when I finished my baby)...but I'm not going to start the sequel just yet. I want to make sure I have things planned out and will most likely make it my summer project. However! I'm still writing High School's a Bitch AND! I want to go back to writing one of the two fanfictions I've written the first chapter for, but I can't decide which :/ THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN! Leave a review telling me which one you'd like to see me post next...
A. Long May She Reign
I put a little teaser about this one a while back. Sixteen year old Rose is the Queen of Turkey, and she's betrothed to the future King of Russia. When Rose is no longer safe at the coven she's been hiding at, she moves to the Russian court in preparations for her wedding. However, things are far from a smooth sailing. With the king's bastard taking interest in her, and a country to rule over, plus a prophecy looming over everyone's head, Rose soon learns there's a lot secrets kept behind castle gates.
B. Bring Me Back to Life
Rose Hathaway is a promising doctor, dating the man of her dreams, surrounded by friends that are more like family than her blood is. After a night turns deadly, Rose finds herself in a hole she can't bring herself up from...nor does she try to. But when the person she least expect to be at the edge is trying to pull her up, she realizes life isn't so one and done as she though and maybe, just maybe, things happened for a reason.
So which one sounds better? And yes both are Romitri stories. If the Synopsis isn't enough to help you make a choice send me a PM and I'll send you the first chapter to whichever you want, or to both, to see which one you like better.
Don't forget to leave me a review :)
See you next week :D
