Eric let out a bellow, verging on a roar, of rage. The light and portal vanishing as Kathy did. He didn't expect her to react this way. Never in all the time he had known her, had he thought she would react so quickly.
"Kathy!" Godric cries out, circling in the spot she had just been.
He looked frantic, blood tears in his eyes. He was sniffing as if to search for her. It was all around them, but that was it. Eric's already stinging heart clenched tighter at the sight of his maker's pain.
Godric stopped circling to look to his childe. Accusation was in that look. Anger.
"What did you do?"
Eric couldn't speak, unable to admit that he had hurt her feelings. Turned down her pleas for help. He had practically chased her out when she had sunk low enough to beg. Godric took a few steps closer. Eric hadn't seen such emotion on his maker in far too long.
"She wasn't to leave for days. She was to leave me with a way to get her back. Why did she go, Eric?"
"Is this about Kathy's trip?" Ginger speaks up.
Mutliple eyes look to her. Pam was the only one not looking with a glare. Ginger pulled something from her skirt band. A paper, thick and wrinkled.
"Yeah, she said to give this to yall when she left."
Godric was there in less than a blink. The paper ripped from her hands. It looked like some foreign language, symbols. Too old for any human eye to recognize. Godric's eyes went wide, lip quivering.
"She came to you for help?"
He slowly looked up to his childe. Eric couldn't look at him, jaw tight. "You turned her away?"
"She is your human," Eric snarls. "You should be the one to protect her."
Godric shakes his head as he looks to the location she had last been. That rage fell to such sadness. The sadness Eric had seen when Godric tried to commit suicide.
"I couldn't do it," Godric says softly, looking back to Eric. "I would have killed her."
"You are the strongest vampire I know," Eric demands, trying to remind his maker of who he was.
"You do not understand," Godric says with a shake of his head, looking away again. "I've little control. More than once have I nearly killed or violated her."
Eric looked stricken with the surprise of that. His eyes wide, jaw opening a bit. Godric glance from the corner of his eye to his childe. "It is why I left her so much. What little of a bond we had, it ruined my control. I would have killed her in the binding."
That was what she meant. 'Godric wouldn't. Couldn't.' Those words rang again in his head. He could see it now. She loved him as the best of friends. Not as a lover. Godric was family to her. She didn't wish to put Godric in that position. Eric's eyes were wide, unseeing of what was before him. Finally seeing what Kathy was to Godric. What he was to her. Seeing what she saw in himself. How did he not see it.
Eric whipped around, eyes searching the woods as if to hunt her down. There was no way. She wasn't on this plane. She was on a different dimension. Lost to them all.
"Eric!" a shrill cry echoed in the empty room. Joy on the tone matching the look on the small female's face. She hopped across the room toward him. A bag hung from her arm.
"Kathy."
Eric didn't share the enthusiasm that the female did. She stopped before him holding the bag out. It was small, blank. Her blue and purple hair was woven into twin braids. She wore a sundress in grey with white leggings, feet bare.
"I got something. Look. Look."
Eric stared longer before taking the bag. He didn't look from her excited face as one hand reached into the bag. His hand stopped on something soft. His brow furled a bit as he pulled it out, eyes on it. A silk cloth. White. A pillow case? No.
"What is this?"
"Something my mom told me about long ago," she says happily as she takes it, stretching it out.
There were odd markings on it. It looked to be some kind of language he hadn't seen before. In the middle, an open area with red. Blood. It smelled of her. It was used to make more of those symbols.
"It's a talisman. I made it!" she chirped.
"What use have I for this?"
"None, yet." She shrugs, pushing the thing into his hands. "I just wanted you to have it."
"A talisman of silk?"
"Not silk. I'm not sure what the material is. Mother gave me a deal of it so long ago. I think she said it was hair or something." She pouts a bit in thought. "Something from our home."
Why was he remembering that now? Matter of fact, why did he carry it with him most of the time? He had been taking it with him like a human would a handkerchief. Maybe it was the smell of her blood on it.
Slowly, Eric pulled it from his pocket. All were standing outside still. Godric was reading that paper. If he could read it. Ginger was leaving to get to work. Pam sighed as she looked to the white cloth in Eric's hand.
"Really," she huffs. "Why do you keep that thing?"
Godric gave a small glance to see what they were on about. His eyes went wide, fully turning to look. It was still folded, writing hidden. Eric frowned at Godric's reaction.
"Where did you get that?"
Eric looked to the cloth. "Kathy gave it to me a while back. Another of her useless gifts."
"Useless gifts?" Godric was before him, taking the cloth with great care. "This is her way back."
"What?" Eric asks, flabbergasted as Godric unfolded the cloth. "It is just a talisman."
"This is her blood," Godric says with a motion at the red.
"I gathered as much."
Godric ignored the sarcasm. His hands followed the symbols. His fingers slowed, caressing the red in the middle. "Her name." A small smile pulled his lips. "Katnymel zo Cre Mvlictow."
Godric frowned a bit. Eric frowned because his maker was frowning. What did that name have to do with this?
"What of it?" Eric pushes, done with the silence.
Godric glances up for only a moment. "She is of the royal line."
"What does that matter?"
Godric sighs, lowering the cloth. "It means this is different than I thought. I hadn't really thought much about her mentions of getting passed around." He held the cloth out to Eric. Eric took it back, looking at the markings. "It means, who ever impregnates her becomes the leader of their kind. It means we must let it happen. Her cousin Mvlictow must do it, or she will be passed on to worse."
"It means," a female voice says, stepping from the woods. All fangs dropped, eyes on the woman. She was dressed in leather, all rough. She was taller than both Kathy and her mother, but not by much. Her hair was a natural light blond, human blond. Her eyes were a golden hazel. She was one of them, or partially. "Kathy, as you call her, is the new slave for the men." She smirked smugly. "Mvli isn't her cousin per say. He's her brother, half brother."
Eric snarled. "Who are you?"
"Me?" she pointed to herself, glancing around behind her. She turned back to look at them. "I'm Gluybn's sister. Though, we are all related as cousins." She give a wide shrug. "Sucks when there are so few of us left."
She moves closer, strutting. She held a sexual grace that oozed off of her. This was a nymph who know her worth. Godric waited, knowing there was more to say.
"I can help," the female purrs as she moves to stand closer to Godric. "I could bring her back, with that."
She pointed to the cloth in Eric's hand. "I could give you the woman in good health even."
"What is it you wish?"
"Mvli is mine."
