Hatenai Sora
あの日のさよなら/Ano Hi no Sayonara

The shelter was filled with various people. While Sumire had slowly arrived there, she leaned on something, trying to catch her breath. Her eyes skimmed the darkened place, hoping to see someone familiar. There were barely any shinobi in here. She had assumed this 'Pain' that they had talked about was much more deadly than what Kakashi had warned her about.

"Sumire-chan!" Kurenai called her out.

"Kurenai-san!" the brunette smiled, slowly approaching the woman. "Thank goodness, you're safe! Did Shikamaru-san help you get here?" she questioned.

The woman nodded to her, before looking over at her, realizing her other child wasn't with her.

"Momoko-chan...?"

Sumire's face looked down, as she quietly shook her head. She knew her child was still at the Academy. Just seeing how Hiroto was when she left him...It felt painful. Knowing her loved ones were still outside, it was tearing her apart inside. She needed to run back out...However, people kept wandering inside, searching for their loved ones.

"...Sumire..."

Out in the battle field, Kakashi's body was in the rubble. Blood running down his face, losing feeling in his body. His time in this world was running out. After saving Chouji from Pain's attack...He knew this was his fate. He was going to see his teammates in the afterlife soon enough. This was terrible.

He couldn't save her like he promised.

Yet...He broke another promise. He wanted to come back to Sumire. Like him, she lost her best friend. Now she was going to lose him.

As Kakashi's head slowly slumped over, everything had turned dark. Recalling his teammates...The genin that he met...He walked down a dark path, recalling his life...Everything that happened up until now. Yet, he had regretted a few things he couldn't do...

"...I'm sorry, Sumire."

Her eyes looked glazed, after hearing that faint voice in her head.

Tears began to fill her eyes while she stood there, unable to feel herself breathe. It was that same feeling when Kaimu had passed away. Who was it exactly? Was it Kakashi? Was it Hiroto? Or was it both of them...? Her face twisted up into a horrible look, before looking at her fellow jounin, who sat there, looking at her with a worried look on her face. She quickly got up, and comforted the kunoichi, lightly hugging the other woman.

"...Kurenai-san..." she said softly.

The genjutsu specialist patted her head, looking at the entrance of the shelter thoughtfully. She knew Kakashi will always still be out there. Sumire stood there, realizing the place had quickly gone quiet. They wanted everyone to remain quiet while those intruders were out there, just in case they might try to come in here.

...Hours had soon passed.

People were getting antsy. Touching the sleeping Kaisho, Sumire stared at the baby, trying to keep her nerves at ease. She heard something being opened. The other villagers had gotten up, in surprise, as a jounin signaled them to exit the place. Both Sumire and Kurenai had walked out, and was greeted by the sight of a wasteland. Their village literally destroyed, looking like a crater.

Staring at the place, Sumire froze, trying to locate her loved ones amongst the struggling shinobi.

"S-Sumire!" her mother called out to her.

Next to her mother, was a slightly injured Momoko, clinging onto the older woman. Sumire gave the sleeping Kaishou to her mother, before hugging the child tightly in her arms. She held Momoko's hand, before looking up at her mother, with a reluctant look on her face. Her father wasn't around.

"...And Otousan...?" Sumire began.

Kaori furrowed her eyebrows while rocking her grandson in her arms. "Your father...He's with the other ANBU," she replied. "However, even I do not know why he left me and Momoko. All he told me was ...if I found you...If anything were to happen to him... Contact your grandfather in Kumogakure. They want you to take over as head of the family as soon as possible,"

Her eyes stared at her mother thoughtfully at that last remark. Although she spent years over training and crying for this, somehow...Sumire felt more content with this life. If she were to ask herself back before she had Kaishou, or even met Momoko... her answer would have been a bit different.

"...Okaasan. I-"

"Look, there he is!"

People had rushed past her, with a happy look on their faces. Sumire glanced to see a blond haired teenage boy wearing all orange stumbling back into the village with Kakashi holding him up. Her eyebrows furrowed, only to eventually realize who he was. She had heard about Kakashi talking about him nearly all the time: his student, Uzumaki Naruto. Although her memories were faint, he reminded her of the late Yondaime Hokage, by just the appearance alone.

While watching the people gathering to him, and throwing him up in the air, the woman tried to approach him, only to stop for a moment. She knew Kakashi was safe, that's all that mattered.

"...Hiro," she muttered to herself.

She didn't want him dead. Anything but that...

"...I...loved you, Sumire..."

Last thing, Hiroto remembered...was falling down to the ground. Seeing Sumire run away from him...No longer seeing her. As he closed his eyes, the blond could hear the sound of rain in his head. The familiar sound that he hated so much now. Why was it raining...now? He could feel his heavy body slowly beginning to move. It was walking forward in the darkness.

'...This is what I get, huh...' Hiroto thought. '...I never got to say much else... Other than a damn, 'I love you' to someone who's taken...'

His eyes looked up to a light. He was soon greeted to warm sunshine...The smell of sea salt and the sound of the ocean. He could hear seagulls in the air. The shinobi was at a beach that had no end. Was this his 'heaven'?

"...You had to die, over this?" a voice spoke up. "I would rather see you with gray hair, Hiroro,"

The blond froze in his place, hearing that voice. Turning his head, he saw Kaimu standing there with his arms crossed over his chest. No injury in sight. A perfectly content, yet ticked red-head standing before him.

"K-Kai!" Hiroto shouted, jogging towards him, nearly in tears. "...You're ali-"

"...You know that's a lie. I'm not going to the afterlife until I feel at peace, and you two are fully content with your lives," the other jounin sighed. "...But, by the looks of things you and Sumire aren't talking again?" he remarked.

"Please, I keep saying that sort of stuff, and she keeps running away from me," Hiroto sighed, staring up into the clear blue sky. "...You know...Maybe I should end up staying here..."

"Don't. You. Dare." Kaimu muttered. "...Even after all this time, she still looks at my window, wishing that I would come out and ask her what's wrong. Even if you two aren't talking to each other, she still wants you in her life. She will still love you, even if it isn't in that sort of way."

"Hah?" the other jounin gaped.

"That day...If it was between you and me..." the man began."...If you had died, she still would have been the same way. Probably even more terrible than she is right now. Losing one of us, was already like losing a part of herself. You and I...had made her life better. Even if we aren't Kakashi-senpai...She still loves us,"

"...Wake up..."

Closing his eyes, a tiny, reluctant smile formed on Kaimu's face, as he gently touched Hiroto's shoulder.

"...Reality is terrible. However, you seem like you still have a lot of things you want to do in the real world, Hiroto," the man smiled. "...Accepting death just like that won't allow you to do a lot of things,"

A green light started to surround the man, as he stared at his teammate. Tears began forming in his eyes, as he looked at Kaimu. He knew that he was going back to the real world...To the painful reality that he's living in.

"Why can't you just come back alive, Kai?!" he shouted. "Both of us need you an-"

Waving at him with a sad look on his face, the redhead shook his head, as he watched his friend disappear before his eyes.

"...Both of you...could never grow up if I did,"
