Love in Dauntless
Chapter 37: Telling the gang
I wake up the next day with the urge to puke. I get out of bed and run into the en-suite bathroom. Luckily I manage to get to the toilet before actually puking. It isn't long before Tobias comes in and starts rubbing my back and holds back my hair.
When I'm done I flush the toilet and stand up, I walk over to the sink and wash my hands.
"Do you want me to go and make you something to eat?" Tobias asks.
"Yeah, I really fancy some pancakes." I tell him.
"Okay. Get ready and when you're done there will be pancakes on the table for you." He says before kissing my forehead and leaving the room.
So I get ready.
When I'm done I walk into the kitchen to find a plate of pancakes in the centre of the table and Tobias and Hope sitting down, eating pancakes.
I am wearing black leggings and a black vest with some black sneakers. My hair is in a simple ponytail.
I sit down in between my daughter and husband and take a pancake, putting it on my own plate.
"Good morning, mummy and baby." Hope says happily.
"Good morning sweetie. How'd you sleep?" I ask her.
"Great. I had dream about my baby bruver." Hope says.
"You might be having a baby sister." I say, smiling.
"Yeah, but I want brother." She says.
"Okay. Maybe you will have a brother. What did you and your baby brother do in your dream?" I ask. I look at Tobias to see that he is smiling as well.
"We had tea party, and we play hide and seek. It was vewy fun." She says.
"Sounds great, sweetie." Tobias says.
We eat our breakfast, talking about how Hope is going to be a great big sister to her little 'brother' and stuff. It's a great breakfast.
…
It is now lunch time and Tobias, Hope and I are walking down to the cafeteria to meet our friends. Tobias is carrying Hope on his right hip and holding my hand with his left hand.
We enter the cafeteria and Tobias puts Hope on the floor. She runs over to our usual table, he little black dress swishing in the air as she runs. Tobias goes to get us some food and I follow Hope to our table where our friends are already seated and eating. Hope is sitting next to Aaron and I sit on the other side of her where there is a spare seat for Tobias on the other side of me.
"Where were you guys this morning?" Christina asks; she is sitting next to Aaron.
"Oh, we decided to have breakfast in our apartment." I tell her. "Also, I just really wanted pancakes." I add.
"Pansycakes!" Hope yells.
"Uriah, I swear I am going to kill you for teaching her that word." I say, glaring at him.
"I'm sorry; I thought it would be fun." He says.
"She's two years old. She shouldn't say that word." I tell him.
"Yeah, but, everyone should know that word. I thought she could help me get it back into the Dauntless dictionary." He says.
"You're a leader, can't you put it in there without having to teach my two year old daughter it." I say.
"Yeah, but I have to get people to use the word. Not just put it in the dictionary. Anyway, I've already put it in the dictionary." He says.
"Really?" I ask.
"Yeah. Now I just have to get people to say it." He says.
"Pansycake." Hope says again.
Uriah holds out his hand and Hope high fives him.
Tobias comes back with a tray that has three burgers on it, with three slices of Dauntless cake and three portions of chips. Obviously Hope has a kids portion and Tobias and I have an adults portion each.
He hands out our meals and we start eating. All talking about various things.
"So, Tris, any sign of baby number two on the way?" Christina asks me.
I look at Tobias and he smiles and nods at me.
"Actually, yeah. We found out yesterday that I'm pregnant." I answer and everyone at the table starts cheering and clapping and congratulating us. Tobias gets man hugs from Zeke, Uriah and Will. I get hugs from Christina and Shauna. Marlene already knew so she just sits in her spot, smiling.
"How far along are you?" Shauna asks.
"About four weeks." I tell them.
After that we just sit there and talk about random things, the baby was one of them. We sit, we eat, we talk, we laugh.
And then this happens…
Uriah runs up to the makeshift stage where they are going to announce the rankings of the initiates tonight, at dinner, and he turns on the microphone. Everyone in Dauntless is currently in here, listening as he says this:
"People of Dauntless, we all know, well, unless you're an initiate, how Dauntless prodigies Four and Six have been trying for another baby for the last twenty seven weeks. Well now, my dear friends are expecting. Tris is about four weeks pregnant with baby number two. So, now, I would like for us all to congratulate them on finally getting pregnant."
Then everyone in Dauntless raises their glasses and shouts. "CONGRATULATIONS!"
The cheers and shouts and claps and whistles and stomps and everything else start. And it last for about half an hour. People coming up to us and congratulating us. People just coming and patting us on our backs.
Then we decide to go home. I pick up Hope and we leave all the cheering and clapping in the cafeteria.
We start walking to our apartment when Max comes up to us.
"Congratulations on the baby. I was wandering if I could speak to you both, in my office." He says.
"Thanks, what do we need to speak about?" I ask.
"Just something. I will explain when we get there." He says.
"Okay." Tobias says. Max nods and leads the way.
Tobias and I start following him. I look at Tobias, worried.
What could this be about?
Does he know we're Divergent?
What's going on?
Unfortunately we get there all too soon and Max sits in his chair, behind his desk. The place is neat and tidy.
"Please, sit." He says.
We sit in the two spare seats. Hope is fast asleep as she has her arms around me and her head on my shoulder.
"What do we need to speak about?" I ask.
"Well, there is something I need to say. I only have another ten months to live. I have been diagnosed with terminal cancer and that is how long they have given me. It's just, when I die; I'm going to need someone to take my place. As we are allowed odd numbers of leaders but it has to be more than one, I thought you two could take my place as the main leaders. You are both prodigies and everyone looks up to you and your family. The Dauntless love both of you." He says.
"But if we both become leaders then there will be four leaders, Tris, myself, Uriah and Lisa." Tobias says.
"Lisa is dropping out; she's getting old and doesn't want all of the responsibility. So, it would just be you, Tris and Uriah. Of course, when you are leaders, you can add more leaders, you can change things. You can change Dauntless. Also, you get a bigger apartment, and you will get paid better. And I know you want a big family so those things will come in handy." Max says.
I look at Tobias.
"How long do we have to decide?" I ask.
"You have nine months. There has to be notice at least a month before the old leader leaves about who's going to be leader after them." Max answers.
Tobias looks at me questioningly. I nod, thinking this could be good for us.
"We won't need nine months. We'll do it." Tobias says, smiling.
I smile too.
"Great, can you just sign these papers, please?" Max asks, giving Tobias a piece of paper to sign, and a pen.
We both sign it after reading through it and I give it back to Max.
"Thank you, so much. I think you'll be good leaders for Dauntless. I know you'll do what's right." He says.
"Thanks." I say.
"You can go now. Congratulations again." He says.
"Thank you. We'll see you later." Tobias says.
We stand up and leave the room, Hope still sleeping.
…
Later that night, Tobias and I are lying in our bed, facing each other.
"So, we have twelve new Dauntless members, we're going to be leaders soon and we have a baby on the way." Tobias says.
"Yeah, I can't wait to be a leader. We can make Dauntless a better place, and maybe we could make our friends leaders as well." I say.
"Yeah. I love you Tris. I love our little Hope and our little baby as well." He says.
"We all love you too, Tobias." I tell him before kissing him.
We fall asleep wrapped in each other's arms.
Hey Ravens, sorry for the long wait. I started college and my laptop hasn't been working properly. I have been wanting to update but every time I tried my laptop messed up. It messed up whilst doing this but I was desperate to give you a chapter. But I will be getting another one soon so I will be able to update more often, but not that often, only when I can.
