Chapter 36
Lux's Point of View
Everything I thought I knew about Nate has been hurled out the window at this point. Blair told me they were having problems but I never expected him to hurt her like this, again. Although in all reality it didn't surprise me. The vibes I got from him and Vanessa proved it wasn't a lie or a nasty dirty rumor. Blair showed me the private Gossip Girl blasts that had been sent to her email with pictures of him and her kissing outside of the coffee shop we had been in a few days ago. Gossip Girl had the decency to do B a solid by not going public with this information…yet I thought.
I'd spent the whole weekend with Blair devouring pints of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and watching episodes of The Vampire Diaries on Netflix with her to keep her mind off of Nate and what he'd done. She was heartbroken when she found out about him and Serena and she had the strength to trust him again and he just blew a hole through it…Nate wasn't getting off that easy, not if I had anything to do with it. He has pissed me off for the last time. Serena joined in on our girl's weekend late Saturday afternoon. She seemed in better spirits since she told off whore-gina and sent her packing.
Monday morning came creeping up on us way to fast. I got up and grabbed a shower smiling at the thought of Chuck and me in his shower. Somehow I'd become comfortable with the way he can make me smile and be nowhere in sight. He was leaving with his father later tonight for his bachelor party. I know we aren't exactly exclusive with each other, but he was going away for a two day bachelor party. It worried me a little…
I dug through my closet to find my favorite tribal patterned sweater with a moose outline across the top and matched it with my dark blue high low skirt. I pulled my hair into a high pony tail as I made my way down the hallway into Blair's room to snag her leather low rise boots. She was still curled into her bed hugging her pillow. I stepped into the boots and sat on the edge of her bed to tie the laces and looked at her over my shoulder.
"Blair… I'm giving you one mental health day because Nate's a dick. But, tomorrow morning you are getting up and coming to school. I won't let his misdeeds tarnish your perfect attendance record." I told her smiling halfheartedly.
"Thank you, Lux. I just can't deal today. I feel like my stomach is in my throat…Why are you leaving for school now anyway though?" Blair asked me looking at the clock on her night stand. I stood up and turned on my heel to face her.
"Yearbook meeting." I chirped lying. I'm going to confront Nate. She nodded her head before falling back into the welcoming arms of her pillows and blankets.
"I want details on everything I missed today." Blair barked while I ran back in my room to gather my books. I peered in her doorway. "Of course! I'll text you during lunch. Take a shower B. Don't wallow in bed all day, okay?" I said looking at her pointedly. She sighed and nodded her head.
"Barney's is having a sale!" I yelled making my way down the staircase. That I know would at least get her out of the apartment for an hour or two. She hasn't left her bedroom all weekend.
By the time I walked all the way to Nate's I was furious with him for every reason possible. I wanted to punch him in the face if I am being completely honest. He looked down on me for being with his best friend and gave me hell for it. But yet he can cheat on his girlfriend twice and come out scot free? Hell fucking no. Blair will surely get him back for this, but I need to give him a piece of my mind right now. I opened the wrought iron gate and walked up onto the porch and pounded my hand on the door.
Anne's visiting her parents in the Hamptons this week so I know he's home alone. I pounded on the door and rang the doorbell repeatedly. "Nate open the damn door!" I hissed when I saw a shadow move in the foyer. I kicked the door with my foot before he decided to open it. When he did his head hung low and he wouldn't look at me for a second.
"You're a hypocrite and a real piece of work, Nate!" I hissed balling my fists up at my sides.
"I don't know what Blair told you, but it's none of your business really." Nate finally said crossing his arms over his chest before staring at me. I scoffed and laughed at him shaking my head in frustration.
"You've out done yourself, really you have. I can't believe you would cheat on her with Vanessa of all the freaking people in New York City! She loved you and gave you a second chance you moron!" I yelled at him pacing the porch.
"I don't even know who you are anymore." I breathed looking at the boy I grew up with. The standup guy that always had my back, who always did the right thing. I know we all make decisions and choices and mistakes but this was just…terrible.
"That makes two of us!" He yelled back walking upstairs to get ready for school. I followed him inside slamming the front door shut and heading up the stairs into his room.
"I admit I was wrong for sleeping with Chuck and lying about it, okay? But you need to let it go. This isn't about that anyway, this is about you losing your damn mind. I thought we could salvage this friendship at some point in time, but not anymore. Whatever friendship we had left dissipated to nothing when you screwed Blair over for the last time." I spat at him while he tied his tie around his neck. Nate fumbled with the two pieces of the tie knowing he was wrong.
"It's different with Vanessa… She doesn't care about all the parties and gossip. Blair and I want different things." Nate growled back at me.
"That's all great and fine, but why didn't you have the balls to tell Blair that instead of cheating on her? I hope you get everything you want Nate I really do…" I snapped sarcastically at him before storming out of his house. The anger coursing through me caused my hands to shake as I walked to school.
As I came out of Starbucks with my raspberry lemonade I felt myself starting to relax a bit from my confrontation with Nate earlier. I didn't even want to think about him right now at all. If I saw him in the halls at school I may just beat him with a book. I held the door open for an old lady to walk into Starbucks when I noticed a familiar short red head across the street coming out of a bakery.
"Georgina?" I whispered to myself, lifting my sunglasses off and placing them on top of my neck. According to Serena she was supposed to have left the city. I jaywalked across the street quickly trying not to get hit by a car to make sure I had really seen her. Horns blared after I was already across the street.
"Lux Woodley! Is that really you?" Georgina cooed walking towards me in her five inch heels and leather pants. I faked a smile and met her half way.
"It's me." I said dryly.
"I thought Serena told you to get lost." I asked her raising my eye brows. Georgina rolled her eyes and offered me a cupcake that I declined. She closed the box she was carrying and stared at me.
"Serena is over dramatic. We had a fight. Things are fine now. You should totally join us for a night out on the town. From what I hear the girlfriend situation is pretty sticky for you these days! I mean with you screwing Chuck and getting knocked up. Gossip Girl has an entire page dedicated to you! I'm impressed." Georgina rambled on while I fought the urge to shove a cupcake in her face and my boot up her ass.
"Here's a little bit of advice that I advise you to take, leave the city and don't come back. You're not welcome here anymore." I stopped her stepping forward.
"Oh please, Serena is just upset because she couldn't remember how vodka tonic's she knocked back. We were having fun! Since when is that a crime?" Georgina asked facing off with me.
"Stay the hell away from my friends." I whispered in her ear before shoving past her shoulder.
Since Blair was home 'sick' for the day it was my duty and responsibility to take her throne for the time being, which meant trying to keep all the minions and girls in line. I met Nelly and Isabel in front of the steps at The Met at the exact same time Jenny and her crew had showed up. It was like a lion meeting her prey, me being the lion and Jenny being the scrawny scared little gazelle about to be slaughtered. Even though I had humiliated her I still hated her guts for everything.
We stared at each other briefly sizing the other up before taking our seats on the steps a little ways away from each other. I pulled out my phone when it buzzed to see another ridiculous blast from yours truly. Spotted-Jenny Humphrey wading in the met fountain, fishing for change. Blair Waldorf, seen dallying with an off-Duty doorman at the blarney stone on a Monday night. Our very own princess Lux was seen coming out of Plan Parenthood…when will she learn? It pays to be protected. The battle has gone from the streets to the blogs. Who's sending this debasing dish? I have a feeling… I snapped my phone shut and sat it down beside me on the steps glaring at Jenny who had just read the same thing I had. I knew everything in that blast was false because A.) It was Monday today. B.) I've never been to Plan Parenthood in my entire life. This had to be Jenny spreading false rumors or Gossip Girl has lost her edge and her mind…
"Here, a shiny new dime to add to your collection." I smirked tossing Jenny the change I had in my hand from buying a fruit cup at the vendor just down the street. She rolled her eyes and picked up the change.
"Why the fruit cup, L? Did you lose your taste for yogurt?" Jenny spat back at me with a devilish grin. I swallowed the lump in the back of my throat and fought the urge to rip the stupid little purple flowered head band out of her hair and shove it down her throat. I refrained and ate my fruit cup and listened to the traffic whizzing by on the busy streets below.
"Asher's parents are in Cannes, so he and Jenny are throwing a party at his house." Hazel gushed. I rolled my eyes and ignored them. Asher was the freshman that Jenny had snagged somehow within the past week or so. He was as much of a social climber as she was, so it was a match made in heaven.
"Sorry Lux, it's a really small get together with all of our closest friends." Jenny beamed at me. I wanted to gag. Good for you Little J… go to hell I thought. I smiled and rolled my eyes at the sound of her voice.
"Lux can have my invite." Nelly offered from behind me.
"Invitations are none transferable." Jenny barked at her. "She's new to the group."
"Just because your name's on the invite doesn't make you a hostess." I pointed out to her. Jenny sighed and picked up her phone and smiled at me waving her phone in my face. "Then why's the party planner calling me?" She informed us all before walking off on the phone.
"From what I heard from Blair the last party Jenny had entailed a cake with her face on it and balloon animals. Maybe you girls will get lucky and she'll throw it at Chucky Cheese this time!" I laughed out looking to Hazel and Penelope. That statement was enough to get them concerned. I smiled in satisfaction noticing a silver town car pull up to the curb. Asher stepped out of the car and my jaw dropped seeing Jenny run to kiss him on the lips…unbelievable.
After leaving the girls on the steps I made my way to school and spotted Chuck in the courtyard. I smiled when I saw him and walked towards him. "I just wanted to say that I hope you have a nice trip with your father." I told him while we walked slowly into school. He touched the small of my back and quickly yanked me into an empty classroom kissing me on the lips.
"Good morning, princess." He smiled letting me play with the buttons on his button up shirt.
"Oh I wanted to tell you that I am going to retake my SAT's. You were right about there being scholarships and grants. I was just upset and being a little childish." I smiled up at him. He nodded his head and placed his hand on my hip while a group of girls laughed walking past the room.
"Wait a second, can you say that again? I was what? Right?" He teased as I caressed his face and kissed him on the lips. He let out a low moan while I smiled and kissed him again.
"Don't forget about me while you're surrounded by beautiful girls at the bachelor party." I mumbled straightening out his tie for him. He squeezed my hip and kissed my cheek. "Not a chance." He whispered to me leaning his forehead against mine sending my heart fluttering into my stomach.
"I know we aren't together like a couple or anything so you should have fun while your away." I said trying to keep my voice even and looked at him. He sighed and caressed my cheek looking away.
"Lux…I just don't do relationships. But maybe…we can talk more when I get back." He offered gently kissing me on the cheek.
"Surprisingly, I might actually miss your annoying face." Chuck laughed while I hit him in the shoulder and walked out of the room.
"Have a nice flight!" I said throwing my arm in the air as I walked down the hall to class.
