I'm so sorry it's been several days since I've updated, and this chapter is kind of short. :( Sorry again. I'll be posting a few chapters today, to make up for all the lost days.
JUNE 18
I picked at the skirt of the dress. It was pretty, sure. Simple, but elegant. The bust was ruched, with a pleated waist. The straps came together in the middle of the neckline, creating a V-neck, with a fabric flower where they met. It was knee-high, and made of chiffon. It was comfortable.
It was just so pink. And not like a dark pink that was almost red - which was just about the only shade of pink that I actually liked. But it was like, bubblegum pink. Girly pink.
It was a good thing I loved my sister. I would never wear this pink thing otherwise.
"Mac!" I heard Harper call out. Of course, she loved the dress. "Come on. Let's see the final product."
Sighing, I left the dressing room. Mom, Harper, and Maddie were waiting. Stryker sat in Mom's lap.
Harper was wearing the same dress as me. And like me, this was her final fitting for the dress.
Maddie's eyes lit up, reminding me just why I was doing this. This was going to be her special day, and I would wear whatever hideous color she wanted me to where. Because it was her day. "Oh, you look amazing, Mac. I can't believe this is really happening. I'm getting married."
I smirked. "I know. And you're the first one, too. Harper's probably going to be the last one to get married. If she ever does. Maybe she'll just be a crazy cat lady her whole life."
Harper punched me in the arm, glaring at me. "That is not going to happen. I'll have you know that Aaron and I are getting pretty serious. I'll definitely be getting married before you. You're not even seeing anyone right now."
"Girls," Mom said. "Please don't start fighting. Mac, do a little spin."
Rolling my eyes, I twirled.
I heard Stryker clapping enthusiastically. "Mama! Mama! You petty!"
Grinning, I leaned down and pressed a kiss to his forehead. "Thanks, little man." I straightened up. "All right. The dress fits perfectly. Your turn, Mads."
My twin nodded. She followed the consultant into another dressing room, where I assumed her gown was waiting. About ten minutes later, she came out in her wedding dress.
She was beautiful.
It was a sleeveless gown, with a sweetheart neckline. It flowed to the floor, the tulle giving it a very graceful look, which was perfect for my twin. A pleated sash was around the waist, with a large fabric flower on it.
Stryker clapped again. "Aunt Mad! You so petty! Aunt Mad so petty!"
Mom smiled. "Yes, she is." Mom sniffled, wiping at her eyes. "I can't believe you girls are so grown up already. Maddie's getting married. Mac has Stryker. Harper's got Aaron, and she's been done with college for a while now. What happened to my little babies?"
Maddie hugged Mom tightly. "Ah, Mom. We'll always be your little girls."
Harper joined the hug. "Yeah, Mom. Don't worry. Even when we're all married, we're still gonna be your girls. You're not losing us. You never will."
"Yeah," I agreed. "What they said."
Harper rolled her eyes at me. "Seriously? That's it?"
"Shut up."
"Mama!" Stryker yelled out, as he joined in the hug. "Mama! We aw hug Mamie! See? Big hug!"
I shook my head. I took a step back. "Oh no. I don't want to be part of a group hug."
"Mama! Pwease?"
I sighed, giving in to those big grey eyes. Damn it. "Oh, all right." This boy was going to be the death of me. The things my son could get me to do…It was totally ridiculous.
So I reached out and joined in the mushy-gushy girly hug that was going on. Sheesh. "You like hugs way too much, Stryk," I muttered.
My boy just giggled.
