Chapter Thirty-Five Homecoming Queen

A month had passed and with it the leaves had changed. Lana sat up as Coheed & Cambria's "Welcome Home" played through her radio she glanced at Jake rolling her eyes as he continued to sleep. She hopped out of bed and into her closet excited as today they would announce the homecoming court during a special pep rally and then announce the queen at the football game later that night. Since she was a senior this year she and Renesmee were eligible to be on the court. Jake slept on ignoring the alarm dreaming of a wedding he wished could be happening between him and Lana. Esme worked on making breakfast wondering if her girls were going to get on the homecoming court this year. Renesmee was running around her room as she tried to get ready for school not liking the colder weather since it meant she had to wear more layers she didn't need. Edward watched his daughter quietly chuckling. Seth walked downstairs and into the kitchen surprising Esme since he wasn't normally the first one up. Lana got dressed before walking over to her bed she set a knee on the bed and gently kissed Jake trying to wake him up.
Jake kissed Lana pulling back down next to him "good morning beautiful."
Lana giggled before escaping his arms "get up Jake. We have the assembly today to find out who is on the homecoming court." She ran out of the room and down the stairs.
Jake groaned but got up and went to get ready for the day frustrated with the fact that he couldn't sleep in like normal on a Friday due to a special assembly. Renesmee walked into the house she headed up to Seth's room planning on waking him up unaware that he was already awake and downstairs. Emmett glanced at Lana as she bounded down the stairs rolling his eyes at her excitement due to homecoming.
Esme looked at Lana as she walked into the kitchen "excited for today?"
Lana nodded as she took her normal seat at the bar "I'm hoping Renesmee and I both make the court. As for which one of us gets the crown I don't know who I would rather have win. I mean I'd love to win but I don't want Renesmee to lose either."
Renesmee ran into Seth's room she blinked confused at the empty bed she started searching the other rooms of the house before heading into the kitchen. She looked at her boyfriend surprised but sat down next to him and kissed his cheek "Morning Seth."
Jake finally joined the group he put his arm around Lana "so is my baby going to win the title of homecoming queen today or will it go to the equally beautiful Renesmee?" he kissed Lana's cheek smiling.
Renesmee "Either way it will be one of us since everyone at school thinks we are the most beautiful and most popular girls in school. I'd like to win but I won't be a sore loser if Lana wins."
Seth kissed his girlfriend's cheek before setting his head on the bar still tired but not enough to sleep. Jake looked at Renesmee slightly surprised by her speech but glad she and Lana had become closer over the time Lana had been in Forks. Esme smiled at her daughter and granddaughter glad that they both wanted the other to win. Lana started to eat thinking about the assembly. Jake ate quickly glancing at the time he sighed and got up heading out to the rabbit to go pick up his friends. Seth watched Jake go unable to believe he was still picking up Embry and Quil. Renesmee ate her food glancing at the time ready for it to be time for her to go to the school.
Eventually it was time for the group to go to the special assembly. Renesmee, Seth, and Lana got into Lana's Porsche figuring it wasn't worth taking more than one car when they would just be going to school for a short amount of time. Renesmee watched the trees fly by as Lana drove to the school admiring the greenery that made up Forks. Seth was sitting next to Renesmee in the back holding her hand as he silently wished for time to fly faster so he could just go back to sleep. Jake drove Quil and Embry to the school he parked waiting for the other half of their group to arrive. Embry got out and went to go catch up with some of the girls from his classes.
Quil glanced at Jake "So which one of the Cullens is going to win the crown?"
Jake shrugged "They are both popular and everyone calls them the prettiest girls in school. It's going to be a tough call. I'm rooting for Lana obviously since she's my girlfriend but either way one of my girls wins."
Quil "of course Renesmee may be pretty and popular but it seems like more people like Lana especially since she seems more approachable than Renesmee."
Lana pulled up beside Jake she got out looking around at the other students who had stopped to glance at her and Renesmee. Seth and Renesmee got out and headed for the gym ready to find out who was on the court. Jake got out and walked over to his girlfriend putting his arm around her as he nuzzled her neck glad to see her after their short break from each other. Quil coughed at the two before heading towards the gym following the crowd of students headed to the assembly. Lana went after Quil dragging Jake along with her skipping along more excited as the time drew closer to the announcement.
Soon enough all the students were seated in the gym. The principal walked up glancing around the crowd at the bored faces. The new health teacher walked up to the principal handing him a piece of paper with the lucky girls' names on it.
The principal "The lucky ladies who are a part of the homecoming court this year are: Renesmee Cullen, a cheerleader, a member of the band, student council president, and lastly Lana Rossi. Now if all the ladies will join me at the center of the gym so we can discuss details. The rest of you are all dismissed."
Lana and Renesmee headed over to the principal excited that they made the court. The boys headed out to the parking lot planning on waiting for the two outside the heated gym.
Embry "Of course Lana and Renesmee made the court. I'm just glad my friends with benefits cheerleader also made the court even if she doesn't stand a chance again the Cullen girls."
Seth "Well at least it won't be a blood bath when it comes to who wins the crown since both Lana and Renesmee want the other one to win."
Quil "at least both the girls are being good sports about it. I would hate to see what they would be like if their relationship was just forming since the first few days of Jake and Lana being together was bad enough with Renesmee."
Inside the gym the principal looked at the girls "The presentation of the crown and the announcement of the winner will occur at half time. You girls need to be a the game no later than 15 minutes before the kick off when we will introduce you to the crowd as the homecoming court. Each one of you will be escorted on the field by a football player. I expect you to be in attire suitable for the dance tomorrow. Congratulations on making the court. I will see you all later at the game you are dismissed."
Lana walked out with Renesmee then glanced at the other girl "we need to go dress shopping. We need to drag Jake and Seth with us in order to make sure they match us since it would be a fashion tragedy if they didn't match."
Renesmee gasped "Alice would never let us live it down if the boys didn't match us. She should come with us since she has the best fashion sense and would make us look amazing at the dance."
Jake glanced over at the girls as they walked over "so now that school is over for the day what shall we do?"
Lana smiled sweetly putting a hand on Jake's arm "Well you and Seth are going to join me, Renesmee, and Alice for some shopping for the dance tomorrow."
Jake groaned "Do we really have to go shopping on our day off?"
Lana looked at her boyfriend "yes we have to go shopping. Renesmee and I need dresses. You and Seth need to have matching suits. Alice will make fun of us if we don't match and she will pick out the best dresses. It is in your best interest to accompany us on this shopping trip."
Renesmee and Seth had already gotten in Lana's car they looked at the other couple wondering how long this argument was going to last before Jake just caved in. Quil and Embry got a ride from Sam not wanting to wait for the argument between their alpha and his girlfriend to be over. Jake glanced at Lana then sighed softly and set his forehead against hers giving in. Lana leaned up and kissed him before walking over to the car. Jake followed getting in the other side sighing softly as Lana once again put down the top for him so he would fit. Renesmee giggled at Jake before turning to Seth and pecking him on the cheek excited to go shopping. Seth wrapped his arm around Renesmee not minding the shopping since it made his girl happy and he got to spend time with her. Lana drove to the Cullen house long enough to pick up Alice before heading for the mall in Seattle.
Alice dragged the girls into a shop filled with formal gowns once they reached the mall in Seattle. Jake and Seth sat on a bench outside figuring the girls would come get them when they needed them. Alice looked at a black dress with a small cutout and a slit she looked between the girls before handing it to Lana since the slit wouldn't be as high due to Lana's height. She flitted around the store before handing Renesmee a silver floor length dress smiling. The girls walked into the changing rooms trusting Alice's judgment since usually she found them things that were amazing for them.
Lana walked out she twirled around for Alice smiling. The slit only came up to just above her knee due to her height. She stopped and looked at Alice "what do you think?"
Alice smiled "it works for you. The slit is high but not scandalously high. It accentuates your curves and bust but doesn't show anything. I wish it was a brighter color but the black is still awesome." She went out to get Jake.
Renesmee walked out she looked around for Alice before spotting her by Jake and Seth. She turned towards Lana "wow that dress is amazing. I wish I could pull off the slit but I'm a bit short. What do you think of my dress?"
Lana smiled "Thanks. I love your dress it makes you look amazing. The silver is awesome and I love the neckline. It's beautiful Renesmee."
Alice walked in with the boys she looked at Renesmee "you look beautiful sweetheart. The dress fits you like a glove and is perfect for you."
Seth nodded in agreement with Alice "it is perfect."
Jake glanced at Lana walking over to her "you look sexy. Hmm maybe you should get another dress I don't want all the guys seeing how hot you look."
Lana giggled "Nope I like this dress. Besides you will be by my side at the dance so no one else stands a chance."
Alice went around the store working on finding matching outfits for the boys not even letting the chance of them not matching cross her mind. Lana and Renesmee went to go change now that they had found the perfect dresses. Seth watched Alice go around the store wondering if they would be able to find anything for him and Jake due to their heights and muscles. The sales assistants walked over taking their measurements clucking at Jake's height. One ran to get a step-ladder. The other worked with Seth taking his measurements before comparing it to a size chart before heading over to the men's section. Jake stood still trying not to groan or make a noise as the assistant measured him. Lana walked over to Jake with the dress over her arm she lightly kissed his cheek smiling at him being a good sport. Seth tried on suits for Renesmee trying to pick the one she liked the best. Renesmee smiled thinking about how sexy he looked. Jake finally got led over to the section that should fit him he glanced at Lana smiling softly when he noticed how happy she looked. Lana smiled following after the sale assistant glad that he had agreed to go shopping.
Eventually Alice had found matching outfits for the guys and accessories for the girls she set the items on the counter quickly pulling out her credit card smiling at her success. Renesmee stood beside Alice ready to get out of the store. Jake and Lana had walked outside enjoying the fresh air. Seth stood by Renesmee ready to help carry the bags.
Lana glanced at Jake "Thanks for coming. I know you had other things you would rather do than come shopping with me."
Jake looked down at her surprised "I would do anything for you Lana sure it wasn't how I imagined spending my afternoon but I got to be with you. If it makes you happy and isn't illegal I usually don't mind doing things for you."
Lana smiled and gently took his hand holding it "I'm glad I have you in my life Jake."
Renesmee walked out with Seth and Alice "well we should get back to Forks since we have to look our best at the game tonight." She got in the car as soon as Lana unlocked it.
The group got in the car before Lana headed back to Forks thinking about the game suddenly fearful of the other girls on the court. Renesmee glanced at Lana wondering why she had tensed up becoming slightly worried. Jake stared out at the scenery feeling fearful due to the imprint bond he kept an eye out looking for any possible threats. Alice kept an eye on the others in the car wondering why everyone seemed so tense. Lana finally pulled into the driveway parking and getting out she headed inside ready to be prepped for the football game since time was closing in on the girls having to be at the school. Renesmee picked up her dress before heading into her cottage where Rosalie waited for her. Alice followed after Lana. Jake and Seth went to go play video games with Emmett and Jasper. Esme looked up as the group walked into the house. Carlisle was still working getting closer to getting off and coming home to his family.
Eventually it was time for the girls to head to school. Jake and Seth had gone to La push to hang out with other members of the tribe having no interest in the football game. Lana looked down at her dress then back at the mirror loving the smoky eye makeup and the small ringlets framing her face while the rest of her hair was pulled up. Renesmee pulled on Lana's arm trying to get her to the car she left her hair in its natural state and wore lip gloss with no other makeup keeping her look simple. Lana rolled her eyes getting in the car with Renesmee before heading to school both a bundle of nerves about who would win the crown. Esme and Carlisle had already gone to the game sitting in the stands doing their best to not attract attention to themselves. The girls were escorted onto the field by the football players. Lana was on the arm of the quarterback while Renesmee was on the arm of the star running back. Esme smiled seeing her girls on the field.
The principal announced the members of the homecoming court and their escorts before dismissing the girls to the stands until half time. The first half of the football game ended with Forks beating their opponents 28-0. The principal called the girls back out this time Carlisle escorted both Renesmee and Lana since he was filling in the father role for the two of them. Esme cheered for both.
The previous year's queen walked on the field holding the crown she smiled at the girls until she noticed Lana and Renesmee feeling envious of the Cullen girls as most did when they saw them. She turned towards the crown holding the microphone "I will announce this year's homecoming queen. The winner of the title of Homecoming Queen for this year is…" she paused for dramatic effect "Lana Rossi." She walked over to Lana looking her up and down before placing the crown on Lana's head "Congratulations." 'She looks so fake. I can't believe this girl won. She must be one of the new adopted children of the Cullens. My older sister said the Cullen girls always won homecoming queen when they were in school and they looked too beautiful and perfect to be for real.'
Lana smiled "Thank you." She bit back a glare as she heard the thoughts running through the girl's head. She waved to the crowd smiling.
Renesmee hugged her "Congrats Lana." She looked at the other girls.
Lana walked with Renesmee and Carlisle over to the stands while the cheerleader joined the other cheerleaders frowning. The band girl went back to the band not terribly disappointed since she didn't expect to win. The student council president went into the stands with her friends not caring either way that she didn't win. Esme hugged Lana smiling glad one of her girls won.
In La Push Embry blinked getting the text he glanced at Jake "Lana won homecoming queen." He texted the cheerleader back.
Jake smiled sipping a soda "good Lana will be in an amazing mood. Maybe something good will happen tonight." He finished off the soda before crushing it looking around the bon fire.
Seth fake gagged "really Jake is that all you think about?"
Jake kicked sand at Seth "I'm a guy. Besides it isn't like Lana doesn't enjoy it anyways. Anyways we will be celebrating her win."
After the game Lana walked into her room she took off the makeup and let her hair down heading into her closet to change. Jake sat on her bed watching her take off the makeup that he thought took away her natural beauty. Seth and Renesmee had gone out to the meadow to hang out before it became time to go to sleep. Embry was off with his cheerleader. Jake pulled his girl into his lap once she had gotten into more comfortable clothes. Lana smiled and kissed Jake happy she was the homecoming queen. Eventually the four teenagers fell asleep all with smiles on their faces.
