Emma flinched when Klaus had, yet again, snapped Stefan's neck, something he had been doing all day as punishment. Klaus was angry, the angriest Emma had ever seen him from her time spent with him during the summer, and she couldn't blame him. She and her family ruined his plan: a plan he has been trying to achieve from the moment the curse on him was created.

Klaus let out a yell and punched the metal wall of the truck next to him. After revealing to Stefan and Emma that they had returned to Mystic Falls, Klaus had kept them prisoner in the semi-truck, using that time to take his anger out on Stefan. Just the thought of knowing she was in the same town as the people she loved pained her. All she had to do was hop off the back of the truck and walk down the familiar streets towards her house. But alas, she had no way out. If only she had known where in the town they were.

"I can't believe I didn't see it before!" he snarled, breathing heavily through his teeth. "It all makes sense, why I can't make my own hybrids," Klaus voiced, looking over at Emma who was watching him from the corner of the freight container. "why you two were secretive. It's because the doppelganger is still alive."

Emma stared back at Klaus, knowing there was no use in trying to deny what was true. It was pointless now. Klaus was going to kill everyone.

Klaus threw his head back as he let out a dark chuckle. "Well, at least you're aware it'd be a stupid idea to lie to me now." he commented.

After he had spoken, the metal door was rattled by a knock, followed by the voice of one of Klaus' men.

"Finally," Klaus said, violently throwing up the metal door.

The echo from the scraping metal made the young girl jump. From where she sat, she saw that night had fallen, meaning she had been in that truck all day. Rebekah, who had been leaning against the opposite wall from the one Klaus had punched, was picking at her nails, clearly bored out of her mind.

"Make it fast, Nik. I want to get my necklace back." she complained as the hybrid jumped down from the truck.

Emma didn't think as she quickly got up from the corner and hurried over to Klaus, stopping just before Stefan's body. "Klaus, please. Don't-"

"Ah, yes. Please tell me what you so desperately want me not to do," Klaus snapped, resting his arms on the edge of the crate. "because for some reason, you seem to think you're able to make demands."

The girl sucked in a breath, clenching her hands into fits. It couldn't hurt to try at least one more time before everything went further into hell. "Look, you would have done the same thing Stefan and I did for your fa. . ." She trailed off, realizing what she was going to say. Would he do the same thing for his family?

Klaus chuckled again, a creepy smile appearing on his face. "That's what I thought." He pointed at the young girl, glancing over at Rebekah. "You're on watch duty."

Rebekah let out an annoyed groan. "'Course I am."

"And make sure they don't leave." And Klaus was gone.

Emma held in a frustrated scream she so desperately wanted to let out and clenched her fist even tighter. Everything was falling apart. She believed, during the time she was with Klaus over the summer, that there was time to figure out a plan to kill Klaus once so they all could live a worry free life.

"Careful there. I can smell the blood. You don't want there to be scars." Rebekah warned, pulling Emma out of her thoughts.

Emma saw her motion towards her clenched fists. She opened them to reveal crescent moon markings on the palms of her hands, with small hints of blood in the cuts. "I don't care." she said, wiping her hands on her shorts and backing away from Stefan's body to sit on one of the dusty caskets.

Rebekah rolled her eyes. "This attitude of yours is only wanting me to kill you faster. Which would be a shame. I've always wanted a little sister." she admitted.

The younger girl eyed the original from the corner of her eye and didn't say anything.

"Oh, come on. You have to admit, we had a grand old time together when we were shopping." Rebekah pointed out, tilting her head to the side while watching Emma with curiosity.

"Well, I didn't have fun. I was just faking it." Emma responded, but she knew deep down she didn't fake it.

The original chuckled, shaking her head. "Wow. You're a big of a liar like sweat Stefan. Though, I do have to say, I'm surprised that you two were able to keep that bitch alive without Nik knowing for so long."

"She's not a bitch. She's my sister." Emma snapped, sending daggers towards Rebekah with her eyes.

Just then, the sounds of Stefan's painful groans filed the air. He rubbed his neck as he got up from the metal floor, and instantly became alert when he realized where he was.

"Oh, he lives." Rebekah chimed, smiling at the Salvatore.

"What happened?"

Rebekah crossed her arms. "You took a beating. My brother's been breaking your neck all afternoon. Quite a temper."

Stefan grabbed one of the metal walls for support. "Why did he bring us back to Mystic Falls?"

"He knows about Elena, Stef." Emma said. She nodded her head towards the school. "He just went to see her."

"With any luck, he's already ripped her bloody head off." Rebekah added.

There was a brief moment of silence and Emma sensed something was going to happen from the look on Stefan's face. Confirming her thoughts, in a split second, Stefan had pounced on Rebekah, making them fly out of the truck.

Emma let out a gasp and ran to the edge of the crate, her eyes wide with shock. "Stefan! Don't!"

"Where is she?!" Stefan growled, hovering over Rebekah.

"You really do love her, don't you?" Rebekah used her super strength to quickly shove Stefan against the semi, right in front of Emma. "Consider me jealous." she said, using a crowbar to impaled the younger vampire.

Stefan slide to the ground, his hands at his wound. Emma hopped down and knelt next to Stefan, the sound of Rebekah's retreating foot steps behind her.

"Stefan, are you alright?" she asked, resting a hand on his shoulder.

Stefan nodding his head. "Y-yeah. Can you take the crowbar out?" he said, his voice laced with pain.

"Uhh, sure?" she responded, hesitantly.

Emma grabbed the crowbar but didn't move. How the hell do you take something like this out? Do you go slow? Fast? Is she supposed to cover the wound? Well, vampires heal quickly but does that immediately rule out first aid? She let go of the crowbar.

"Are you sur-"

"Emma." Stefan grunted, sweat starting to form on his forehead.

"Okay!" Emma rushed out, pulling the crowbar out in a flash. Stefan let out a cry as Emma tossed the tool to the side. "Sorry! You told me to take it out."

Stefan got up, with the help of the young girl. "I know. Thank you."

"That wasn't a good idea." Emma commented, looking up at Stefan. "She could have killed you a-and then go after Elena with Klaus."

"Yeah, I realize that." Stefan stared ahead, in the direction of the school. "I need to stop them."

When Stefan made the move to walk away, Emma grabbed onto his arm before he could get out of her reach. "You can't go alone, Stef. Not to hurt your self esteem, but you against two originals with one who happens to be a freaking hybrid? That won't end well for you."

Stefan rolled his eyes. "And what, having you come with me is going to help my chances?"

"Whoa. I never said I wanted to go with you. Are you crazy? They'd snap me like a twig. What I meant was you should have some sort of back up. Maybe call Damon?"

"My phone isn't on me." he said, shaking his head. Emma patted the pockets of her shorts and noticed that she didn't have her's as well. Klaus must have taken it while she was asleep. "And besides, there's no time. I have to save her." And with that, he stomped towards the school, leaving the girl.

Emma stood there watching him, contemplating on what to do. Going after Stefan would result in her untimely death and not going would result in her untimely death. So either way, she would most likely end up dead. Great.

The young girl started to make her way after Stefan, who already entered the school because of his super speed. As she walked, her foot struck the crowbar that Rebekah impaled Stefan with, his blood still wet at the end. She bent down, picked it up, and continued on her way. There was no way she would pass up the opportunity to have some sort of weapon.

It felt weird for the girl, to be back at the school. Yeah, it was summer so it's not like she missed much there, but after being away for so long, it was strange. The hallway was empty, which was obvious since it was the middle of the night. She noticed some of the pranks that were already set up by the seniors, like honey on a door handle and toilet paper over the lockers. She wondered if Elena did any of them.

The squeaks from her sneakers echoed throughout the hallway as she tried to figure out where Stefan and the two Mikaelson siblings had gone. She stopped abruptly when she heard the soft sound of whispers coming from one of the classrooms she had just walked by. She slowly turned and faced the door; the shade for the window was pulled down. Emma clenched the crowbar tighter and dragged her feet toward the door. She reached out, her hand hovering over the handle for a few seconds, and then grabbed the handle, letting out a painful gasp from the sudden pain in her head.

She dropped the crowbar and used her hands to cradle her head as she fell to her knees. This pain was different from the other times she'd have a vision. It was excruciating, making her pull her hair. Flashes of bright white clouded her sight with what sounded like a thousand voices screaming at once. Every so often, she could hear someone yelling no and her name, but it was just so hard figuring out who the voices belonged to.

Emma let out a cry out of relief when the pain finally ceased. She was having trouble catching her breath, the whole experience leaving her rattled. What was that? What did it mean. The visions never happened like this. She rose to her feet, the crowbar in hand, and continued down the hallway slowly, in case another vision appeared.

A sudden scream came from ahead, close to the gym, causing Emma to quicken her pace. Without thinking, she bursted through the double doors and she instantly regretted it. In the middle of the basketball court, stood Klaus, two seniors, Elena and Stefan and the bang from the doors gained all of their attentions. The original whirled around and faced the girl, eyes narrowed.

"Crap." Emma whispered, turning around to make a run for it. She didn't get far, probably got two steps in before she felt Klaus' hands grab her arms and vamped her over to the others.

"Well look who joined the party!" Klaus boomed, shoving Emma to the floor, the crowbar flying out her hands.

"Emma." Elena said, who was also on the floor. She tried to get closer to the younger girl but Klaus stood between them.

"Yes, yes. Family reunion. As much as I would love to see that," the original began, walking over to stand right in front of Stefan. "the Ripper was just about to kill our lovely friends over here." Emma could see Klaus' eyes dilating.

"Stefan, don't!" Emma cried out, latching herself onto Stefan's leg to stop him. He shook her off and grabbed the girl who Klaus had compelled a while ago back at the 60's dance.

The girl cried out as Stefan bit down on her neck. Emma let out a shaky breath, knowing there was no way Stefan could stop. She looked over and saw Elena sitting on the floor with wide eyes, making the young girl realize that her sister has never seen Stefan actually kill anyone. The poor girl's body fell to the floor with a thud, a pool a blood forming from the blood dripping from her neck. Stefan turned to the other boy and started to drink his blood as well.

Klaus smiled and knelt next to the girls. "It's always nice to see a vampire in his true element." Stefan ripped his teeth out of the boy's neck and let his body drop. "The species has become such a broody lot."

Elena glared at the original. "No. You did this to him.

"I invited him to the party, love. He's the one dancing on the table." Klaus countered, letting Elena get up.

Emma followed suit as well, watching as Stefan wiped his chin with his wrist. "You made him kill innocent people all summer, Klaus."

"I never compelled him, sweetheart. I know now that he did it all to keep the lovely human doppelganger alive, but he did it all on his own."

The sound of the gym doors slamming open ceased the conversation as Rebekah's booming voice filled the room.

"Where is it?!" she shouted, stomping over to the four of them. "Where's my necklace?"

"What are you talking about?" Klaus asked, barely turning to acknowledge his sister.

Rebekah shoved a phone in Klaus' face. "She has my necklace. Look."

Klaus took the phone and used his fingers to zoom in on a picture, mostly likely a picture of Elena with the necklace. "Well, well. More lies."

"Where is it?" Rebekah repeated, her eyes narrowed.

"I don't have it anymore." Elena admitted.

Veins started to form around Rebekah's eyes. "You're lying!" she cried, vamping forward and biting down Elena's neck.

"Knock it off!" Klaus said, pulling his sister off Elena. Elena fell to the floor, holding her neck, and Emma instantly went to her side.

"Are you okay?" Emma whispered, laying a hand on Elena's shoulder. Elena nodded her head.

"Make her tell me where it is, Nik!" Rebekah shouted, struggling against the hybrid's grip.

Klaus let out an annoyed sigh, turning around and bending down in front of the girls. "Where's the necklace? Be honest."

"If she said she doesn't have, then she doesn't have it." Emma responded, glaring at him.

Klaus laughed. "It's funny how you thought I was talking to you. I was asking Elena the question."

Elena groaned, hand still on her neck wound. "I'm telling the truth. Katherine stole it."

The hybrid smiled. "Katerina. Of course. Well, that's unfortunate. If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?"

Klaus pointed at the score board hanging on the wall as he made his way over to a table with an electric panel on it. He pressed a button and red numbers flashed on the board, a buzz sounding throughout the gym.

"20 minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then," Klaus walked over to Stefan. "I want you to feed again. Only this time, I want you to feed on Elena." Klaus said, glancing over at the shocked Gilberts. "You know you want to."

"No! Don't make him do this." Elena protested, only for Klaus to say "No one leaves. If they do, fracture their spine."

"You can't do this!" Emma shouted, getting to her feet as Klaus began to walk away with Rebekah behind him.

"I would stop talking if I were you." Klaus warned in a sing song voice, still walking.

"Then stop being an ass! This is wr-"

Emma stopped when suddenly she felt pain in her chest. She looked down and saw the crowbar lodged in the center of her chest, blood already staining her shirt. She followed the hand that held the tool and looked up to see Rebekah standing in front of her.

"Your voice is very annoying." she said, letting go and walking back over to Klaus.

She felt herself falling backward in slow motion, a soft ringing noise filling her ears. She heard a familiar scream and she could feel a pair of arms catch her before her body hit the floor. Emma looked up and saw Stefan's bloody face hovering over hers. He grabbed onto the crowbar and pulling it out of her chest, making her suck in a breath and instantly start to cough up blood. She could feel a hand on her arm and knew it was Elena.

She watched as Stefan brought his wrist up to his mouth and then press it against hers, and she knew what she had to do to stay alive. She started to swallow Stefan's blood but something made her gag and cough even more blood up, it dripping down the sides of her face. She could see Stefan's confused expression as he looked up to Klaus.

"Oh, right. I guess it's right to mention that I had compelled sweet Emma to reject any vampire blood, even mine." he explained, waving goodbye and leaving the gym with Rebekah.

"Oh, my god." Elena cried, squeezing Emma's arm. "No, no, there has to be a way. Stefan, you have to take her to th-"

"E-El-ena." Emma stuttered out the best she could. The pain was flaring up all over her chest.

Elena, face covered in fresh tears, moved the strands of hair on Emma's face. "Yeah?"

The young Gilbert knew that her time was coming to an end, so it was not a good idea to waste her remaining strength on saying a full sentence. "J-jou-rnal?" she asked, her own eyes becoming glossy.

"Journal?" Elena thought for a quick moment and realized what Emma asked. "Oh, the journal. Yeah, I got it. It was beautiful, Em." she responded, her nose all congested.

Emma smiled, her sister's simple comment seeming to ease the pain a bit. She felt her eyes get heavy like bricks tied to the string of a window shade. It hurt to breathe, but she kept going just to stay awake. God, why was it so hard to keep her eyes open?

"Emma!" Elena shouted, causing Emma to flinch from the loudness. "Emma, you have to stay awake."

Everything was fading: the sound of Elena calling out her name, the pain, her sight. Finally, obeying her body's desire, her eyes fell closed and everything went black.

Elena watched as Emma let out her final breath and go limp in Stefan's arms. She shook Emma's shoulder. "Emma. Em- No. Wake up. Sh-she needs to wake up." she began, tears clouding her vision.

"Elena."

"No, Stefan!" Elena snapped. She had no idea what to do with her hands. "I-I haven't seen her in two months a-and I can't lose her. I just got her back." she cried, bringing the young Gilbert's body into her arms.

And that's how she stayed for the remainder of the time, holding her dear sister and trying to convince Stefan to resist Klaus. It was not successful. The score board was down to the final seconds and Stefan was in a sweaty mess trying to hold back.

"Elena, you're going to have to run." he said, breathing heavily.

"But Klaus-"

"I know, but if you stay, it won't matter."

"I can't lea-"

"She's dead! Elena, you need to run. I can't hold it much longer." Stefan said, hunched over.

The buzzer rang and Stefan almost caught Elena, but he managed to get far from her. He told her to run again and she did, reluctantly leaving behind her sister.

To say that Elena was able to get away from Stefan and Klaus and get to safety would be a lie. She was cornered in the cafeteria and Klaus made Stefan turn off his humanity and the original placed the doppelganger in the hospital to harvest her blood to create his hybrid army. Thankfully Damon was able to find her and brought her back to the boarding house.

He set her on one of the seats in the living room of the house, the flames in the fireplace flickering back and forth. Elena was silent, wrapped in a soft blanket. Damon sat in front of her after he handed her a glass of bourbon.

"It'll help you forget." he said, watching her carefully take a sip.

"Nothing will make me forget what happened. I need to remember all of it." Elena responded, her hands tightening around the glass.

Damon reached into his pocket and held out Rebekah's necklace. "I stole it back for you."

Elena stared at the necklace as the memories from that night played before her eyes. She sucked in a deep breath, remembering the worst part of the night. "Oh, my god. Damon."

Damon set the necklace down. "What? What is it?"

Elena covered her mouth with her free hand. "Em-Emma. She's-"

Damon put on a somber face, bowing his head down. "I know." He clenched his hands together. "I had gone to the school first and. . . found her." He looked back at Elena. "I brought her here."

Elena was taken aback and put the glass down. "Wha- where?" she asked, already getting up from the arm chair she sat in.

Damon got up as well and guided her to the library, where Emma's body lay on the couch with a blanket draped over her. Her hands were together in the middle of her stomach and it looked as if she was asleep. Elena sank to her knees next to Emma and held one of her hands. The young girl was cold to the touch and the color was completely drained from her face.

"I'm sorry." Damon said, eyes glued on the younger girl.

Elena wiped a stray tear from her cheek and continued to play with Emma's hand. "It's not your fault. It's mine. I should have never let her get involved in this- this mess. Even if she with her visions, she was too young."

"You're right. It is your fault." Damon said, earning a glare from Elena. "Let me finish. Because you let her stay, she was able to help us try to stop Klaus. She discovered her powers and used them. . . for good."

The doppelganger remained silent and got up from the ground. The talk and sight of Emma was too much. She pushed past Damon and began to make her way back to the living room.

Damon turned and watched her. "Elena, com-" His head snapped over to Emma's body, a surprised look on his face.

When Damon suddenly stopped speaking, Elena faced him. "What's wro-"

"SH!" Damon shushed, holding up a finger. The vampire slowly got closer to the younger girl, leaning down slightly. His eyes widened. "What the hell?"

"Damon. What's going on?"

He shook his head. "I have no idea." he admitted.

And a second later, Emma gasped, her eyes snapping open.
