A/N: I'm sorry I haven't updated in almost a week and that this update is so short. I've been having MAJOR writer's block on both of my stories. I work on this one as much as I can, but I'm in that busy time of year with holidays and rehearsals and recitals and party planning asdfghjkl it's overwhelming. Please review and thank you for your patience.
Chapter 37: Erik's POV
Soon after our stop at Darius' house, we had to start searching for Gustave again. You almost wouldn't let me leave. Honestly, if the search was for anybody else, I would have stayed, but this was for our son and I couldn't bear to lose him.
Occasionally, we would have a close call with Barnum or his three guards, but other than that, we were fairly safe.
I didn't know that Barnum knew we were watching him.
And that he was following our every move.
One day, we decided to return to Darius' house for a night to replenish our supplies and have a good night's rest. I was very glad to see your belly very round with our children. I loved the plump glow you had because of the babies. It reminded me of the pleasant days we shared before I left you. You would always make sure to let me feel them kick when I was around, even if it was in the middle of the night. I didn't care since I wasn't around all of the time.
The next morning I woke up to a horrible surprise.
You
were
gone.
I searched all over the house for you, but I couldn't find you. I interrogated every person, but no one knew where you had gone.
Then I found it; the note that explained your disappearance.
"Mr. Erik Destler,
I see you have come to Mazandaran in search of your poor son. I know you know where he is. Why you won't come in to get him yet puzzles me though. To speed up our inevitable meeting, I have taken your dear wife as well. With both of the people you love gone, I know you will come to the rescue soon. I'm ready and I'm waiting.
Impatiently,
Barnum"
I crumpled the note in my fist. I threw things at walls in my anger as I screamed curses at Barnum. That bastard! How dare he take you away!
I guess Barnum was right, because I was coming to get you and Gustave as soon as everyone was ready.
